This was by far my best fast food experience. Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was delivered to our table as if we were in a sit-down restaurant. Before I could get up to go ask for a to-go box, a lady came out with the perfect sized box and a brown paper bag for us. She even told us to leave our empty plates and napkins and such on the table and that she would take care of it. I miss the Captain D's in Manassas, and will happily drive 44-miles to Fredericksburg just to come to this Captain D's. The food, the service, everything was top notch! After living in the area for nearly 30 years and seeing this restaurant so many times over the years and it was always packed (drivethru always seems to have a long line) I finally stopped in on a weekday for lunch and they were packed, but I was promptly taken care of. The menu looks interesting, not juts the typical fried fast food fish joint, as they had grilled options too. I opted for their spicy fish sandwich and the picture of the butterfly shrimp appealed to me, so I tried their smallest quantity of those, which was 5. Total price for everything was under $10! Food came out quick and it was all piping hot! Looked fantastic, even the shrimp looked just like the picture! The shrimp tasted great! Definitely not the typical over-breaded fried fast food shrimp! The fish sandwich was piping hot, had to let it cool to eat it, but once I dug into it, it tasted great! Not much spice to it, for being labeled a spicy fish sandwich, but tasty none-the-less. The cole slaw wasn't very good tho, it was bland. The lobby could have used some attention, as the tables were in different ranges of cleanliness from crumbs to greasy or both. Went to captain D's today only to hear the lady at the counter yelling at a customer who was trying to place an order and having to be told that they are short staffed and that is why she is talking to someone else while taking his order and appearing to be disrespectful. He walked out and as he was leaving, the cashier yelled you're disrespectful out loud. After I saw that the lead person stood there and didn't say anything to the cashier after this remark to a customer was made, I walked out before placing my order. The customer is suppose to be right, I guess not. read more

After so many years of great fish, it's sad to taste such a difference. I've tried twice in two weeks & it's been very disappointing. The batter is the same but fish is so mushy I couldn't distinguish if it was actually fish. I love Captain D's. Their fish warms my greasy little heart and the loaded baked potato is delicious. I don't live in F'burg anymore, but whenever my Father picks me up from the train station Captain D's is our lunch spot! (When my Mother picks me up I get a diet lemonade from Chick-fil-A and no delicious greasy fish. Not cause I'm fat but she doesn't want her car to smell like fried fish and vinegar. That is what she tells me anyway. IT IS NOT BECAUSE I'M FAT!!) Ok - possibly it is because I'm fat. But the fish is delicious and the people that work there are just wonderful. I've never been to a Captain D's. Though I only had the baked potato, it was perfect! I'm excited to go back with my husband. The establishment was very neat and clean. The entire staff was so friendly! It was a pleasure eating there! Just wanted to say that we were there Tuesday, October 3rd around 3pm. The young lady who took our order and brought us our food provided phenomenal customer service. Never having been to your establishment, I'd thought the process worked like other "fast food" places in that one waits at the counter area for the food. When she said for us to take a seat and she'd bring us our meal, I was really impressed! She was very kind and stopped by our table a few times to see if we needed anything! Great experience! Ok I love Captain D's and fried shrimp is one of my favorite foods. The people are friendly even when it's busy and the prices are decent. My only problem is the shrimp is NEVER deveined. It's absolutely gross. I went here last year and noticed every piece of shrimp still had the digestive vein. It was difficult to finish my meal and I convinced myself that maybe it was just a one time thing, I had never noticed it before. I finally gave it another chance today and nope. Every piece of shrimp has a big vein left in it. This is the only place I've been that doesn't devein them. The taste is great but I really can't get over that. Picking and pulling it out doesn't work well when it's already fried so it just breaks off into segments and gets all over the shrimp. The shrimp tastes great, hush puppies are some of the best but please. Please devein the shrimp. read more

The issue here is Captain D's Plan for Doing Business. This is the only restaurant and restaurant chain, that limits Senior Citizen Discounts to ONLY TWO DAYS A WEEK. Not only that, Senior Citizens do not have discount access to the entire menu but to a limited selection decided by Captain D's. How about that? As if herded in and corraled like a herd of cattle. How does this play in "we want you to return?" Not very well. When Senior Citizens become a customer problem, guess what? They go elsewhere. 3.5 stars How can you go wrong with fried foods??? I don't know but I do know that when you are looking for some fried seafood and fries this is one of the places to go in Fredricksburg. Yes, it' fast food but sometimes you just need a little bit of the stuff to get you though the day, week or month. I used to treat myself to Captain D's once a month and would get the fried fish and chicken platter with hush puppies, coleslaw, and fries and at almost 1500 calories you can't do this very often unless you want to clog your heart but it is so worth it as treat very so often! read more

Anyone who thinks he's coming here to get good seafood has no idea what good seafood is. We came here upon request of my mother-in-law, who DOES happen to think this is good seafood. This is simply nothing more than fast food seafood, and you get what you pay for, which is not much. The battered and fried meals are greasy, with WAY too much breading, and the grilled meals are dry and overcooked. The only reason i gave 2 stars is because the service qas quite good, and the young man who delivered our meals and took them away was exceptionally courteous and friendly. Then had a ten piece fish pack which is great. Get to the ordering spot with the real sign and only have a 10-piece meal on the sign. So I asked if they had a ten piece fish without the meal and she said yes. So I ordered the ten piece fish and realized it was kind of expensive but first time ordering there I just went with it. After driving off and reading the receipt, she charged me 5 2-piece fish orders! Deceptive. I didn't want ten pieces if I had to buy 5 2-pieces, the smallest denomination for the largest price. To make matters worse, could have just paid $4 more for the full meal. Cashier should have just told me no, that they did not have a ten pack and let me decide the volume of fish I wanted to order. So after sitting through the drive- thru for about 25 mins I pulled up to the window to pay and I wanted to put my mask on and the Cashier says to me "just hand me the money" so I hand him my card and I was thrown off by that but I let it go because I figured he was just trying move as fast as possible because the line was so long , fine so he tells me to pull around front and they would bring my food out to me, I legit sat for another 25 minutes longer other people were getting the food before me and had pulled out after me , I then read the receipt and they wrote "Die" on it , I honestly can't believe they would write something like this it mad e me not want to even eat my food. This place does not look like much, but it is great fun. The food was very good, but expensive for a diner. We ordered the crab, crab cakes, and shrimp. The orders come with a large portion of fries and hushpuppies. The young people working there are delightful. Teens everywhere could use these polite and competent youth as an example. The employee brought out the food to us and my wife's shrimp wasn't properly de-veined and the veins were fried into the every single shrimp, my wife nor I are a fan of eating fried fecal matter so I went to the counter to send it back a few of the employees looked at me like I was crazy and claimed they were de-veined and I pointed out the fecal matter filled veins fried to the shrimp there was a pause and finally a manager got involved and resolved things. I've had the fried oyster platter, a deal at $7.99 special. I have also had the fried fish (excellent).
