Then ordered the Coca-Cola cake to go (w the ice cream in a separate container). Server came back and said the manager "caught" her putting ice cream in a container & told her she couldn't give it to us, to go. Said that was "against the rules". And I couldn't have it to go. So even though I'm paying for the whole desert, I wasn't "allowed" to take it with me. I'M SORRY!!! WHAT!!?!?!?!!!! The server felt bad, so she "took the ice cream off of our bill". Well, ma'am... Sadly, the menu changed, and many fan favorites were removed. The staff was kind and courteous and knew the menu well. I don't know if it's this particular location, or the franchise in general that has gone downhill, but the quality of the food was very disappointing when we stopped here for breakfast on our drive through New Mexico. Everything lacked seasoning and seemed gelatinous and barely warmed through. It was like cafeteria food that's sat out for too long. The only saving grace was our amazing waitress and the gift shop where our family members each pick out a Christmas ornament as part of our holiday traditions. We'll be looking for somewhere else on our next road trip. read more

When she arrived, I said we were ready to order, and her response was rude and dismissive. It was over 15 minutes until our drink order was taken. Service overall was extremely slow. And then another 30-40 minutes until we had our food (the restaurant wasn't too busy). That may have been forgotten but then the food arrived and was fairly inedible. Eggs overdone, pancakes overdone, sausage so hard it couldn't be cut with a fork, and fried okra that tasted like it had been cooked yesterday. Then there was no syrup brought with the order, no salad dressing with the salad, and a number of other missteps. We've never had such a bad experience at a Cracker Barrel but cannot recommend this one. read more

A horrible experience! They were slow to take our order. Then, they didn't have the chicken fried special, which are known for. I ordered a hamburger with bacon, and they forgot to add the bacon. For the most part, when I've visited Cracker Barrels across the US, I've had a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, our visit to the restaurant in Gallup, NM was not the best. I ordered the grilled chicken breasts, and they were not cooked all the way through. Our server never come back other than to drop the ticket. We were going to ask for to-go waters, but she didn't even pause as she walked by. And, we never saw her again. And when she brought the order - it was fried chicken steak. We explained that was not what we ordered and she said "yes it was and I repeated the order". So. We came here super excited to try their famous pancake and have a big meal after our long drive. I'm pregnant and was starving, and my 14-month-old was also so hungry. I'm not sure why he was slow, from what I saw, he was only servicing 3 tables, which included ours. No napkins, I grabbed the ketchup off of another table after he forgot to bring us a bottle. My salad was a salad. Not the greatest. The hard boiled egg was rubbery, tons of grape tomatoes, 3 slices of semi frozen cucumbers and the chicken was cold. Hubs pot pie was "okay." I've been to a Crackle Barrel before - in San Antonio Texas but this one in Gallup disappoints. The fried chicken and fried okra appears to be and tasted like it's been fried over in old grease. Nothing is appetizing about it. Even though we were hungry from driving for hours - this doesn't seem to cut it . The cole slaw was good so does the Strawberry lemonade. When we visited it was just before 6 PM. The restaurant was very busy and the wait staff was attempting to manage the crowd. One of our members was hoping to take advantage of the less food menu option before it ended at 6 but our waitress took too long to take our orders. When asked if we could still order that menu option she said no they turned off the machine but we could order the larger regular menu size fried catfish. The waitress was kind but I was unsure if she was stupid or if she thought we were stupid trying to make such an excuse. I honestly don't think Cracker Barrel has two different fryers for its menu. For the rest of our visit, the waitress was awesome, attentive, and kind. Surprisingly the volume in the restaurant was very reasonable considering how busy they were. It is also fun to look at all the memorabilia that they have on the walls. When our main dishes arrived it was a lot of food. Two in our party had the mac-n-cheese as a side and found it to be bland and lacking in the cheese department. I had the chicken and dumplings and they were great except the cook put the side of corn I ordered on top in the same bowl causing everything to be runny from the water used to cook the corn. At our table we had someone order the potpie and they also found it to lack seasoning. Overall fun place to stop but you may find a better quality restaurant to spend your money at. read more

This was my first CB experience and it did not disappoint. The ambiance when I first walked in there was an ol' country general store welcoming me to a step back in time. It felt like I was in the South, with friendly service and there was candy and Knick Knacks to spare. We ordered the Pot Roast (Sunday Special) and Chicken Tenders with Mac and Cheese and Steamed Broccoli, and the Corn Bread Muffins and Biscuits. The Pot Roast was served in an individual cast iron pot that was bigger that it looked. The meat was so tender and well seasoned and the medley of veggies in the broth was delicious. It was a full meal for sure. The battered chicken tenders (6 total) had a great seasoning with true southern flavors. The steamed broccoli was perfectly cooked and the Mac and Cheese was full of flavor, rich and cheesy. The host welcomed us, sat us at the table and share the specials with us. Our server, was friendly and even though she was busy, she still had time to check in on us and satisfied with the meal. The total was about $30 and for the amount of food we got it was worth the price. If you are in the area, stop in here for not just a meal but an experience. Then we got our drinks right before our meal came, my food was cold. :( I didn't want to gripe because our server was behind. (Everyone around us got their drinks but us.) This place is always a great idea to take your family for a complete and wholesome and delicious meal. My came for a late lunch (about 2:30pm). My kids ordered from the "all day breakfast" menu. I got the southern fried chicken with 2 sides and my wonderful wife got the meatloaf with 2 sides. The fried chicken was not greasy and was crispy and cooked to perfection with bursting flavors. The meatloaf was not dry and also bursting with flavors. The breakfast food were all good. You can't really mess up the typical American breakfast style food. Their blueberry syrup was a big hit for our kids! Overall, the food is consistently great since I was a kid (about 40years ago) and their prices are so reasonable. I don't like to give negative reviews if I can help it, and I don't particularly care to review chain restaurants because people are going to visit them no matter what. But this is an exception that I can't pass up, and not in a good way. We were sat pretty quickly on a Sunday evening, which is the only saving grace for this location. Our waitress was kind, and while it's not her fault the food didn't come out at the same time (at least ten minutes in-between for half our party) she didn't wait at our table long enough after asking if we were all ok before leaving the table to even get an answer. One of our dining partners ordered a side of mashed potatoes and a side of dumplings and got them mixed together in one bowl. One of our dining partners ordered a medium rare steak that came out well-done with other sides than what he had ordered. He deliberated even sending it back because of how long we had to wait to get our food in the first place. One of our dining partners ordered the impossible sausage with his meal and it came out stone cold. Both of us that ordered fish found it to be over cooked, but had a decent flavor. The sides were mostly good, but the macaroni and cheese was frankly, atrocious. Only one person at our table was happy with what came out of the kitchen. We recognize that places are understaffed right now, so the wait time had nothing to do with this review. In fact, it's one of the only reasons I gave a 2 star instead of 1. My family and I were traveling on Route 40 through Gallup just before lunch time so decided to stop at this Cracker Barrel location. The hostess and servers were very accommodating to explain they officially change over to lunch menu at 11am but would do their best to make certain items earlier, if needed. After all was said and done, we waited about 20 minutes and went with the Sunday special pot roast, chicken pot pie and hamburger steak. All food was fresh, beautifully presented and delicious! Well worth the few minutes wait. Hot corn bread and biscuits were perfect accompaniment too. Two of us ordered chicken soup which also was served hot and very good as we waited for the main courses. The server was very attentive, checking in on us and all in the dining room frequently. Must say the chicken pot pie was particularly impressive with freshly cooked crust layer placed over small crock pot. Based on the quality of food and friendly service, would highly recommend this Cracker Barrel location if in Gallup, NM or passing through driving Route 40 (very easy access). Enjoy! read more

We stopped here for lunch while on a multi state road trip. My mom was excited to stop as she's never eaten at one before. We got there and found parking easily. There was just the tiniest wait for seating. Note: I travel with my Service Dog and this place gets Bailey's paw of approval. No issues. Loved it! I get anxious in noisy, busy places and they did an awesome job at making us feel welcome. I had Grandpas Fried breakfast special and my mom got chicken noodle soup and a side salad. Our waitress was amazing and I'm so very sad I cannot remember her name. If her managers are reading this, I had the husky mix service dog on Saturday. She gets full kudos! My water never ever went dry, she was so friendly and efficient. Our food came out quickly! Moms soup was more like a stew with all those noodles and chicken!! She loved it! The salad was good, just your standard side salad with some veg. My lunch was good. The chicken fried steak was on point, the gravy was perfect. The eggs were a little past over-medium but still good, I truly enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. I'd never had grits before so have nothing to compare them to. They were an interesting texture and didn't really have any flavor..but I dunno that could be just the way they are. The fried apples were good, but not my thing.
