Man, I don't like to not leave a good review for Cracker Barrel, but this wasn't the best meal I've had. First off, see picture - the chicken and dumplings were watery - they should have had an almost gravy-like consistency. Usually you get nice big chunks of chicken it it, but in this case it was more like ground-pieces of chicken were scattered around in the dish. The flavor was not bad though. The grits didn't have the usual creamy consistency; I tasted lumpy (and occasionally crunchy) pieces in it. And the piece of cornbread was too sweet. On the plus side, the greens were very good, and the server remembered to bring vinegar along with them (she was great by the way, and my food came out very fast). So not all bad, just make sure the chicken and dumplings are done right next time. read more

We decided to stop here on our way home from West Virginia. We were all very hungry and we love the offers of Cracker Barrel. We arrived expecting a wait time, we were pleasantly surprised there wasn't any. We were seated almost immediately upon entering a rarity for most locations. The lady who seated us was very nice and had just returned from maternity leave (congratulations ) once we were seated we were enthusiastically greeted by our very nice server Taylor. She was extremely patient as people in our group decided on drinks, food and choosing their options of sides. Two of our group had never been to Cracker Barrel so we tried to give them good recommendations. They decided on steak against our advice, while everyone else got what this place is known for, BREAKFAST! Some enjoyed pancakes, French Toast, eggs, bacon, hash casserole, spiced apples. I got bacon and the two aforementioned sides with lunch chicken tenders with a sweet spicy kick sauce and fries (wanted to try something different from my usual) they also quickly corrected me missing one of the sides I ordered bringing it out seconds later, that was impressive! They also offered a few $6 to-go options so I recommend to French Toast Bake to my buddy who got steak as he wanted breakfast food too (overwhelmed by all the options at first because everything looks great to a first-timer) everything went smooth and Taylor was attentive and brought out dishes with the speed and accuracy of a Magician truly, food just appeared! Thank you very much for adding that much more to our special visit. No visit is complete without visiting the great store inside filled with some of the best snacks and items. You can also have a seat in a rocking chair and play checkers which we did for a bit before hitting the road again ending our trip for the weekend heading back to our side of Maryland. Food 5 outta 5 - hot and fresh arrived quickly Service 6 outta 5 - seated quickly and served wonderfully Atmosphere - 5 outta 5 - lively but not too crowded and very helpful staff everything on points Cleanliness - 5 outta 5 - plates and utensils clean as well as bathroom stalls and such. I have not eaten at a Cracker Barrel in a few years but I've always liked them. However, today's meal was rather subpar. It appears the food quality has dropped since I've eaten their last. I had the meatloaf which was soft, spongy and rather light on the meat and heavy on the loaf. Along with it I had the boneless fried chicken breast that just had an unusual texture? It was a little unsettling, and I would never order it again. The green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy were fine BYW. At 2pm on Sunday the bathroom was pretty gross and in need of not a lazy "tidy up" session but a real sanitation crew. Cmon Cracker Barrel, you can do better. I also found the floors greasy and slippery throughout the pathway I used. I don't want to sound like a curmudgeon here but I'm really disappointed. We hadn't eaten at Cracker Barrel in a long time. The food was amazing and service very quick. Nina has been our server twice now and she's the best. She's direct, quick and doesn't waste time. Also very observant and refills drinks without needing to ask. We have gone to this location now at least five times, and a few times to ordering to go. Excellent service and food each time. I went to Hagerstown location a couple weekends ago while visiting family. I absolutely loved the cheesecake stuffed pancake breakfast. I had gotten it with scrambled eggs and spicy chicken sausage links. The rest of the people I was with got their "go to", which was also just as good as they get locally. Normally I like Cracker Barrel and maybe because we tend to only go when traveling and for breakfast. This time we went for an early dinner before heading over to Whitetail for some snow tubing. I ordered the catfish dinner with fries and okra. The table ordered some appetizers of cheese bites, smothered steak fries and fried pickles. The appetizers were ok but not great, the best being the fried pickles which were very salty. My catfish was good and fresh but unfortunately not everything else was and was definitely overdone. We were a group of six and no one really enjoyed their meals overall which was a shame. We went for breakfast this morning, and I have to say, everything was perfect. Seated immediately, not that we mind waiting. The first thing we were impressed with, and I know it's not much, but it's been forever since we have seen a spoon to stir our coffee with. Usually we have to use the end of our knife. Second, never saw the bottom of the coffee cup. When we first began going to Cracker Barrel, there were people walking around keeping cups filled, today, the servers were banding together, if they had a pot in their hand, they will everyone's cup. We had a 9 pm dinner here on Saturday 6/1/19 after shopping at Hagerstown Premium Outlets. We were expecting a wait for a table, but the place was not crowded so we were seated right away. Our server came immediately and took our order. We had the Cracker Barrel Sampler (which consists of chicken & dumpling, meatloaf, and ham) and country fried steak. Each entree came with a choice of 3 sides and there was plenty to choose from the menu. The food was tasty and large. Only minor item was small pieces of bone in meatloaf. Our server was attentive and friendly. We wished there were more Cracker Barrel restaurants located closer to the Washington, DC area so we can go more often. read more

I usually enjoy myself at Cracker Barrel. However, for some reason I didn't feel very welcome here when I had stopped. It was between the lunch and dinner rushes so that meant it should have been a somewhat quick service. But it really wasn't. The quickest thing that happened was probably me being seated, out of my entire experience here. It takes a few minutes before I am noticed by my server, I could understand that but only a handful of people were in her section. I finally place my drink order and wait a few more minutes. When she comes back I am ready to place my order but she heads back to do something without taking my order. So I wait a few more minutes. When I finally do get to place my order I opt for chicken and dumplings with three sides: broccoli, mac n cheese, and mashed potatoes. When asked if I wanted gravy on my mashed potatoes I said yes, I'll circle back to that in a bit. I have been to Cracker Barrel on several occasions, but this was my first visit to this location. Each time I receive a decent meal and leave satisfied. I have had this particular dish elsewhere and knew what to expect. The broccoli was steamed, the mac n cheese tasted just right, and the chicken and dumplings were on point. Then we get to the mashed potatoes. I am a fan of potatoes no matter how they are prepared. Mashed being my favorite. Remember the gravy question from earlier. How I wanted gravy on the potatoes too? Well I did get gravy on them, but not a continuation of the gravy from the chicken and dumplings mixture. Instead of chicken gravy they put a brown gravy on it, which leads me to believe that this is a beef gravy. Not exactly a good mixture when it comes to food. Do me a favor here, take a look at the picture. I could have bypassed the mixing of gravies, but right in the middle of the little mashed potato bowl it looks like a good serving of gravy. Wrong, there is a huge chunk of onion in here masked by gravy. I wondered why the gravy didn't spill out when I took a scoop of the potatoes. Well that would be because the gravy was only there to hide the fact that I had a onion petal disguised in there. Now, back to the waiting. I had finished my meal and really didn't see my server much during it. I am going to chalk the whole time thing up to maybe being close to change of shift. I finally get my check and head out to the register/store area. I mill around the store for a bit and find a few items to pick up. I head to the register and wait here a bit as well. We were seated and given menus to look over. As the time goes by without our waitress coming to our table, another older white couple got seated right behind us. Immediately a waitress comes and greets them and takes their orders (meanwhile, we have been sitting there for 10 minutes with no waitress in sight). We finally just get up and leave because we felt neglected. Now, we have been here many times and have never felt like we were singled out or anything of the sorts. So disappointed in Cracker Barrel in Hagerstown MD. I have always enjoyed breakfast but dinner is another story. Terrible food and looks like it was not just my food. My husband and I both got the meatloaf. I make great meatloaf so I knew it would be good. Wrong! Not only was it bad the tomato sauce was burnt beyond recognition. My husband got macaroni and looks like they made it out of a box. It had no cheese that I am familiar with and the noodles were loose because there was no cheese to hold them together. We were shown to our seats and after more than 10 minutes not a single server stopped by our table to check on us let alone take our order...meanwhile the restaurant was mostly empty and multiple staff walked to and from the kitchen past our table to fill salt shakers...check to make sure there were enough Splenda packets on the tables, etc. the kicker was when a couple were standing in front of our table near the kitchen and one of the servers who had passed our table at least 5 times while checking salt shakers and never once acknowledged us asked the couple if they needed anything (they were trying to catch their server to give them a tip)...at that point we got up an left without getting so much as a glass of water...never going to the Hagerstown Cracker Barrel ever again. read more

I'd like to give it 31/2 stars, but that is not an option. I usually go to a different Cracker Barrel, but was in Hagerstown near lunch time, so I thought I would stop by there. Got my usual meal for lunch - meatloaf. When I get this dish at my regular Cracker Barrel, the taste is always consistently the same and delicious. Never varies in taste or quality--never disappointed. On this visit at this location, I got there before the big lunch crowd arrived and it was not very crowded. Service could have been better. My mashed potatoes were barely tepid. Green beans didn't taste like they usually do. Not good. Meatloaf didn't taste the same and was burned on the edges. Asked for a side of gravy, which I always do. Awful flavor. I don't know if this location uses a different source for some items than other locations. Was disappointed. Probably will limit my Cracker Barrel visits to my regular location. Was going to order dessert for a change, but was afraid that would not be good either. read more

If you want pancakes, get there early because the next shift makes terrible pancakes (an observation based on multiple experiences). They have removed my favorite egg preparation, basted (their best attempt to mirror poached) and I'm very unhappy about that, hence 4 stars instead of 5. We stopped in around 7:15 Sunday AM. We were helped in the store promptly and seated promptly.We both had Grandma's Sampler Platter. I had two eggs over medium buttermilk pancakes, bacon and fried apples.My hubby had two eggs over medium, bacon, French toast and hash brown casserole. Our server was friendly and kept the delicious coffee coming.Cons:Our over medium eggs were over easy. My hubby's bacon was woefully undercooked and mine was super crunchy so we shared the crunchy bacon Why did we not send the food back? . My Hubby was a sous chef in college and our daughters were servers so we have empathy for the staff. The server isn't doing the cooking and we aren't the kind to penalize the server by sending food back and we wanted to get on the road. Pro's: Except the eggs and undercooked bacon, everything else was flavorful, and delicious.The fried apple were on point and tasted like Fall. Server was exceptionally attentive without being overbearing. I like how Cracker Barrel's are similar in layout and menu. But this time my daughter and I went in around 1 pm and it was not very busy but we were seated as far back as they could take us. The server did not have a friendly personality at all. My daughter ordered chicken and dumplings and mac and cheese, the food tasted ok but they put it all in the same bowl and it blended together. Not good. The lady that served us took an hour to get four meals off the kids menu it was because when she put it in the computer it didn't it malfunctioned and didn't put it in. we asked how long our food would take then she noticed that it didn't put our order in. the bathrooms were not very clean too but there was music. I could keep going on but then this review would be VERY long but the waiters name is jaci or something like that. And the boss offered free appetizers put we thought we should get our dinner free but that's our opinion.
