We had a reservation, two hours prior we called to pushed back 30 mins. When we arrived, the reservation had not been updated on the books. Four of us were sat at an 8-top round, hardly comfortable or enjoying for a family dinner. When we asked to move to one of several other open tables we were initially told they were reserved. A very nice manager made the change for us. Drinks were delivered - the sweet tea tasted like bitter leaves. The old fashioned tasted like hint flavored water. One of the burgers arrived with raw meat and the steamed broccoli was literally rancid. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

We were visiting in the area and stopped by Bulls and Bears for lunch. The service was quick and our waitress was super friendly. For my drink, I got the Peach Moscato Sangria and loved it. We started off with the crab dip as an appetizer which was the perfect temperature and had a great flavor. As for entrees, my fiancé got the chicken and waffle sandwich which he enjoyed. I took a bite of the waffle and it was very tasty. As for the bacon jam burger, I was left disappointed. The "jam" itself was more like a salsa than a jam? It tasted like a thin layer of chunky salsa on top of the burger instead of a more traditional jelly/jam that I'm used to. I also just didn't love the flavor of it that much. Overall, the food and service was good. If we are in town again, we'd consider revisiting. read more

Nicely located across from the Maryland Theater, so we went here for a pre-show dinner. We were seated directly in the sun, and were told we could not move to shady seats because they were reserved. Group behind us made the same request (different server) and were politely accomodated. Drinks arrived, wife's rum and coke had white chunks floating. My water glass was filled from a dirty water hose - undrinkable. Ordered steak tips, which came with three bottle cap size pieces of steak. When I showed the server she brought back a small portion of grilled steak, not in the same port reduction sauce, that tasted tainted. Mac Daddy burger (1000 island dressing) was pretty good, though undersized for the $16 cost. That said, if you don't drink the water or the fountain drinks made with the same dirty water, you could probably enjoy a burger and beer before a show. The parking lot and theater proximity is the big draw. read more

Came before a show at the Maryland Theatre across the street; we were a party of 4. One of us got the Greek salad and the lettuce was literally brown and wilted I'm not even sure how it made it's way out of the kitchen. Clearly understaffed. The waitress was nice and friendly but kitchen was slow. In place of the salad, the person got the salmon bowl and the top layer of rice was hard as if it had been sitting under the salamander too long and the salmon was raw inside not just rare. I had lunch at Bulls and Bears today and what an absolute disappointment. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful so it really stinks that the food is mediocre. My sister and I both ordered a crab pretzel. It comes with 2 regular sized soft pretzels and it is topped with minimal lump crab meat & cheese. There is also some type of sauce on the plate which surrounds the pretzels. The issue we had was with the pretzels themselves. They were way overcooked which made them hard. The crab meat and sauce was just ok. One of the other diners in our party ordered a steak salad. She stated that was pretty decent aside from the steak bites being tough. The last diner in our party ordered a turkey club sandwich which came with potato chips. He said that it wasn't too bad but the bacon that came on the sandwich was really overcooked and extremely hard. As far as the service goes- that was mediocre as well. We were one of two tables in the restaurant. Our server checked on us one time but never refilled any of our drinks. All in all - for A's expensive as Bulls & Bears is - it really isn't worth it... and I absolutely would never complain about spending money for good, decent, and amazing food. read more

Stopped after a ball game to lick our wounds of defeat and order some food. I really really liked this spot in terms of scenery- located in the downtown district with both outdoor fenced seating (too cold upon visit), and indoor seating with a fancy bar. What's also cool is to enter the restaurant you go into a large hallway that reminds me of an indoor mall area. Very cool. We sat near the front windows and let the sun warm us up. We ordered an appetizer (crab pretzels) and a couple of cups of MD crab soup - the red not the white cream of crab. I will say the crab pretzels were decent - a soft pretzel covered in crab dip. There were only two of them- not that it wasn't enough, but if we had more in our party, two wouldn't have cut it. Decent flavor. Crab soup was very good, I'm more of a cream of crab guy, but to me this was good with a decent amount of crab in it. For entrees I went with the CFO Fish Sandwich- kind of like a battered cod po'boy on a brioche bun with lettuce and tomato. The fish was golden brown and very tasty- seasoned properly and of course I asked for extra tartar sauce to get myself going. Came with chips- I appreciated the sandwich. Chips were just Lays. Decided against dessert and moved on, would definitely recommend this spot for a breezy spring or summer evening and get something fancier on the menu. Good meal, great times. 4 Stars. read more

The wrap was very good, but the sweet potato fries were a little on the sweet side. Nice change in flavor profile but beware I'd you're looking for just standard ones. I got the chicken and crab dish with mashed potatoes and corn/green beans. The old bay sauce was pretty good, and I appreciate they didn't drown the dish in it. The roasted corn and green bean side was great, and to my amazement the mashed potatoes were very good. I say that because they just seemed like basic smashed potatoes, but the flavor and texture were spot on. My chicken was a little over cooked but I didn't mind that since I am a paranoid chicken eater. Overall great place and would highly recommend anyone passing through. The moderate noise has been increased by the obnoxious construction and the TV volume increased to drown out the construction noise. Not quite the decibels of a Who concert, but not as enjoyable either. The service was prompt and professional. The food was very good. I had a spinach salad with grilled salmon. Very fresh and flavorful. My cohort in crime had the merger burger, a combination of burger and crab cake. The Merger Burger contributed to an above average burger lunch experience. The crab cheese was a tantalizing nice touch for my palate. However, construction noise was loud with the ground occasionally shaking. The customer who propped a door open to share his smoking habit along with cold winter air was rude. Overall good experience that has potential to be better. The food was good. I had the fully loaded fries with Old Bay, cheese, chives, and crab meat. Strangely enough, I've never come across this combination in Maryland but I thought the fries were delicious! The date ordered Old Bay wings which he said were good but I didn't try them. The bartender was very attentive and helpful. I enjoyed the experience right up to the end, when an antennaed creature meandered over the bar and under one of our plates. By then we'd finished eating so there was no point in saying anything to the staff but I promptly when into the ladies room to return my fries. Nothing ruins a meal for me like bugs. read more

Blech, we ate here for our thanksgiving brunch, which they held the room for, and the room while very nice and spacious and looked right out of an old railroad warehouse, the food was just not good. It was not until my father went up and found that the place was sponsoring the brunch via Boston Market! However, the drinks were extremely expensive, and the price they charged for our brunch was extremely high. It have not had a meal in downtown Hagerstown for probably 30 years. Although I live in Florida, I kept reading about people eating here via Facebook. So on a recent trip back to see family, we met some friends from Frederick in downtown Hagerstown. Parking was easy, and we were seated right away. The interior remodel was amazing, beautiful work. We opted to eat outside, always entertaining in downtown Hagerstown. Due to COVID we had plastic utensils which made eating my pork chop a little tricky. Waiter was attentive and pleasant. To start we had crab pretzels, it was very good and plenty for four people. I had the pork chop with mixed vegetables, my wife had the Fish n Chips. Both were very good. The pork chop was cooked well and very flavorful. I did have to eat with my hands as the plastic fork would not cut it. Not a big deal, but a real knife would have been good. Good experience, good service, good food...likely to return again sometime when we are again in Hagerstown. read more

Overall, it was just OK in my opinion. Food seemed a little overpriced for what it was. I ended up getting the fish and chips ($15) - standard pub food. The meal was nice, properly fried, and the fish was very light. Came with tartar sauce, lemon, and malt vinegar was brought in a bottle. They have a great selection of drafts. I tried the Raging Bitch IPA and I can't remember the other beer, but it had maple in the title. The maple one, I did not like. It had a hint of something like a liquorish taste in it. The chicken quesadilla were also good. My wife and I had the fish and chips, and coleslaw. The fish had a thin batter, which I enjoyed. The fish was prepared differently than had a different what I'm used to, which was good. The coleslaw was excellent. Our server was friendly and provided excellent service. The macaroni was just okay but the pulled pork was delicious. My meal came with a side salad but I added blue cheese crumbles and a raspberry vinaigrette which made it that much better. I called in approximately one week prior to my requested reservation date and requested the patio which was not a problem. I called in the day of my reservation to ask about adding two guests to the patio reservation and I was told that the only thing we could do was to have two separate tables on the patio since there are only 4 tops out there, but that it wouldn't be a problem. Fast forward to my time of arrival when I was told that they do not allow reservations on the patio. Imagine my surprise when the ONLY reason I was even coming to this restaurant was the fact that the bike race was that night and seeing the race on the patio made perfect sense. I asked to speak with a manager and when the young man came out, there was no apology - but rather just a "we have been here for 5 years and have never taken reservations for the patio. You must have spoke with the kitchen help". Unfortunately, because Hagerstown is so limited with their restaurant choices in the downtown area (thanks to some of our awesome local officials), you are forced to eat at this restaurant when trying to eat basic American food. The food was mediocre at best and my "Greek salad" was nothing but a massive amount of very large cut cucumbers. Our $350+ bill was not in any way worth it. The only positive thing I can say about our experience at bulls and bears is that our waitress was very kind and did a good job at being attentive. The "manager" who needs a lesson in customer service never once checked on us nor apologized, but rather every time he saw me - he would glare.
