What can I really say about Cracker Barrel? The food is good, but typical. I had breakfast. It's nice to see real Vermont maple syrup rather than fake corn syrup stuff. Our waiter was fantastic. The store is cool because they carry candy bars that I can't find anywhere else. I'm glad they gave up the idea of updating the restaurants because seeing the items on the walls is fun. Soooooo good. Everything was so tasty. Some of the best biscuits I've ever had. I had the country fried steak with sawmill, gravy, and Mountain apples and okra. My husband had a roasted pot roast, and it was very tender and tasty as well. Could not believe how well it was prepared. The staff was very very attentive, service was prompt. Food was hot. I must admit that the past few times I've been to Cracker Barrel they were off their game from what they used to be. Not at this place. Of course we like the old things. The food tonight was awful. Ordered Maple Bacon Chicken and the BBQ ribs. The chicken was gross. It was like "plastic" chicken not real chicken. Tough, all pressed out, not a good taste. Gave some to the dogs and they had to chomp on it several times instead of just chomp and swallow. Meat wouldn't even pull apart like chicken should. The bacon was very undercooked, flopped around like a wet noodle, which made it rubbery and hard to bite or cut through. The coleslaw was bland and worse than straight cabbage. The slaw had large chunks of cabbage, very coarse chop, the sauce was tasteless, not creamy, and almost not there. The ribs were ok but had a hard dry skin over the meat side of the ribs. Stopped here on a whim, and several things happened that made me want to say meh, it could be so much better. My friends wanted to take me and I gave it a chance, but to be honest this location isn't great. My friends wanted brunch at Cracker Barrel because their experience at other CBs were much better than what we had here. The first issue was that of the 5 people who ordered, 4 out of 5 in our group had something missing or and 1 had their order "lost." One of our friends had to wait much longer than the rest of us because of the missing order. Many things were missing like the country fried steak sauce, almost every dish had a side missing. The food itself was alright, it is to be expected, but the service definitely missed the mark here. Overall, not happy with it but the reason why it's only 3 stars and not lower is because the manager did straighten things out after the issues that occurred with our order. First let me say that we were NOT going to go here for breakfast because of all the negative reviews but we were hungry and gave it a chance anyway. I know everyone has there own expectations when dining out but we found this location to be awesome! Every single employee we came in contact with where delightful and extremely helpful. The restaurant was very clean as well as the restrooms. Our breakfasts were great, but it was our service who made this experience all the better. Our server, Marissa, was outstanding, we absolutely loved everything about her and the personalized service she gave us. We raved about the food and service to our friends and brought them there a couple weeks later. Marissa happened to be there so we requested her section. She even remembered who we were! My friend and I were bother servers back in the 80's when customer service really meant something. You just don't find that much anymore, but we did here at this Cracker Barrel in Kimball, TN. Miserable experience today. Waited 45 minutes for our meal. Server was MIA for at least 20 minutes. We were traveling. Hungry. Asked for bread. That didn't happen. Asked for water. Twice. Got one. Very disappointing today. We went there and got meatloaf because they said they could serve it to go very quickly to in 10 minutes. It took closer to a half an hour for them to slice a piece of meatloaf put potatoes with virtually no gravy and a couple teaspoons of green beans a complete and utter rip off and a waste of a half hour. I was traveling through Tennessee for a military move with my family and we wanted a hot breakfast badly. So we stopped at an old faithful. Boy was that a mistake. So it was a 40 min to be seated...totally understandable...another 20 minutes for the food...custom to order so understandable as well...so why was ALL of the food cold? I mean everything from the eggs to the French toast. The warm syrup was hotter than the food! Even the hot tea was cold! It wasn't hot enough to desolve the sugar. On top of the food being cold, it was horrible. We asked for cheese on the eggs. There was an orange square outline of cheese on the eggs but trust me that wasn't real cheese. That was a cheese product but it wasn't cheese. We ordered "mama's" french toast...it was the worst I french toast I have ever had. My wife said, "Who's mama?! Because my mama would never make french toast this bad." Prisoners on death row are fed better! So we stayed at Arnold Air Force Base the night before which is like 30 minutes down the road. My wife asked if they honored a military discount. They said Cracker Barrels only offer a discount when they are near a military base. Well I guess this base doesn't count. And that's fine, I'm not going to argue about that, just the justification. They should just say they don't do one. The reason I bring it up is because in the same breath, they ask when you are paying the bill if you want to buy some jelly beans because a percentage of the profits go to help veterans. Really??? So suddenly we care about veterans? The only good thing I can salvage out of this visit was our waitress. She was really nice and tried to do her best! The food was... well, let's just say we ate enough to kill our hunger and took a box home for the dogs (they liked it, but then again they are fine without TP). The next day we went to Herman's Soul Food, not too far away. It was southern, delicious, and had excellent service. We plan to stop by again before we leave! For any non-Southerner wondering: Cracker Barrel is NOT a real or good representation of soul food. It is not. It's an embarrassment masquerading under a veneer of good, old fashioned, quaint country intolerance. I don't usually leave reviews on chain restaurants...but this was so bad on so many levels. Although we had a large party (9 of us), the restaurant had numerous empty tables. It still took over 30 minutes for us to be seated. This was not ideal, but it could be forgivable, made up for with good food and good service. The service was pleasant, but clearly poorly trained and unprepared. We got an extra sweet tea and were short two coffees. Creamer wasn't brought until 5-7 minutes after the coffee was served. Almost everyone's order was messed up or poorly cooked. It would take a small novel to detail exactly what was wrong on every plate, but a quick overview: The pancakes were GOD AWFUL. They tasted like flour cement and not much else. They apparently don't give you a container of syrup at Cracker Barrel and instead bring you individual bottles of syrup, each one about the size of your thumb. They're made partially with cane syrup, which pales in comparison to maple syrup. You'd need at least 4 to mask the taste of the pancakes and give them adequate moisture, but you're brought two unless you ask for more. Cracker Barrel's biscuits are always mediocre excuses for biscuits, so not much to say there except these were a little burnt. Out of our table of nine, only four people wound up eating what they ordered, and only two of them liked what they were served. I probably got the worst deal, though. What I ordered: Herschel's breakfast, consisting of scrambled eggs, chicken tenders (I wanted lunch but it was only 10:30), and a hash brown casserole. I asked if I could swap grits for fried apples, and the waitress said that was fine. What I got: my (overcooked, cold) scrambled eggs were delivered to another party member, who swapped with me eventually. I was brought grits, which I didn't want, but never got my fried apples OR my hash brown casserole, the two parts of the meal I most wanted. They forgot the meat portion of my meal until 7-10 minutes after it was served to me, and when I finally got it, I was served....ham! As in, a far cry from chicken tenders. I tried to correct my order and reiterated my desires when my eggs were brought (alone on a single place) to the wrong person. I very clearly reminded the waitress what I wanted, but I never got it. By the time she came back, there was no point in trying to correct her again. Ultimately, I paid 9 bucks for a breakfast of over cooked eggs and a burnt biscuit and grits I didn't ask for. I tried a bite of my boyfriend's hash browns and they were cold and soggy, interspersed with great hunks of pepper that induced a coughing fit. This was my third visit to a Cracker Barrel store. I got food poisoning at the first, the service was terrible at the second, and all our orders were wrong and most of our food was bad at the third. This review is for take out dinner. We were staying at a neighboring hotel. We looked at the menu on line and called in the order to be "easily" picked up at the registers. The girl repeated the order back on the phone and had everything correct,Arriving the parking lot was packed so had to park next door. Walking through the store it is always fun to see what interesting items are in there. The clerk read back the order and it was missing the beverages. Was able to buy them in bottles from her. The order finally came out and I checked it before driving off. The desserts were missing. The girl could not help....the manager insisted that it was in the hot bag.... ice cream was not in the bag!! He returned with it in a separate bag.... This was my first visit to this Cracker Barrel. It's located in Kimball, TN at the end of the Walmart parking lot. It has 3 RV/ Bus parking places for big vehicles and that includes pick up trucks hooked to trailers. Menu items ordered: Cracker Barrel sampler with 3 sides and a sweet tea with lemon. My sampler included country ham, chicken and dumplings, and meat loaf. All 3 items were delicious as they reminded me of mamas cooking which I have really been missing badly. My 3 sides were macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and brown gravy, and corn. All of this was delicious also. It is the simple truth: Everything is good at any Cracker Barrel. That's why i look for one while traveling. Yes, I will come back to any Cracker Barrel that I have visited in the past including this one. This was by far the WORST cracker barrel experience I've had. The bathrooms were dirty. They were not that busy, but we waited almost 20 minutes to be sat. There were 3 of us. The waitress seemed nice enough. We all 3 ordered haddock meals. It took FOREVER. The food finally arrived and one of the plates was cold. My sides were wrong. She took our plates back to kitchen instead of replacing sides. We waited an additional 10 minutes for replacement meals. By that time our friends meal was cold. Long story short we ate cornbread and ended up with to go food. Manager never came by. The waitress took 10% off. Our bill was still $42 for 3 people who never ate a full meal.
