I am writing this for my father, after I talked about my awful experience at the Gulfport, MS location, he proceeded to tell me about his Moss point, MS location. They were out of biscuits and his grilled chicken had grizzle to the point of not being able to chew or swallow. The biscuits arrived 15 minutes after he suffered through his meal. He asked to speak with a manager and she comped his meal. These Cracker Barrel's continue to Comp meals instead of addressing the real issues that appear to be widespread among this chain. read more

I love going to Cracker Barrel during my vacations. It's just one of those things. So when I saw they had one right next to our hotel I was ecstatic! Me and my son went to eat and everything was great for the most part. My son got the Mac and cheese and I got the chicken and dumplings with corn. In my corn we're pieces of green beans. And my corn was hard. Like it had been sitting wherever for about a day. The Mac and cheese and dumplings were awesome. Just maybe take into consideration how long your food is sitting out, and that when people order something they don't want bits and pieces of another side in it as well. read more

When the sun sets, and the first leg of a long road trip is winding down, the Cracker Barrel sign is like the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I rolled into Moss Point, right around 8:30 pm. We still had a hotel we needed to check into, but we also wanted to eat dinner before it got too late. The location is right off I-10, but getting into the parking lot of Cracker Barrel can be a maze, especially after dark, and since most are located next to hotels, or sharing parking lots with other restaurants. As with other Cracker Barrels, we were greeted with friendly hello's. Due to our arriving after 8 pm, the dining room was mostly empty. Our server was friendly, albeit slow, (she blamed it on my son ordering a milkshake). We placed our orders, and my fried catfish platter with okra, greens, and green beans satisfied the long lost Southern girl in me. The steak my daughter ordered was cooked just as she wanted (medium), and the chicken tender platter my son ordered was more than filling. Aside from a man a few tables away yapping away on his cell phone, and the slow service at this location, I still rank Cracker Barrel as a family favorite, especially when we're far from home. read more

At 8:10 They had not even started our order. Very disappointing to be told that we were possibly 4th up. We left. It is a chain. I know, I know. Over the years, the good ol' Barrel has come under fire for some shady employment practices. It seems that the Barrel has weathered all that and now lives in the 21st century. I can continue to enjoy their biscuits and apple butter without compromising my values. While Cracker Barrel has a solid biscuit game, their chicken and dumplings is good but not superlative. If the "potlikker" is not "drink it off your plate" good, you need to up your game. Good chicken and dumplings are an art form. Specifically, folk art. Tweak the flavor profile so the chicken is not over powered by the dough. Come on, Barrel, you can do this! The hash brown casserole. What can I say? This stuff should be monitored like cold medicine at the pharmacy. It is like cheesy potato crack. I admit. Los Angeles? Chicago? Oh no no no, my dears...I was sent to the most exciting place in the world...Pascagoula, Mississippi. All facetiousness aside, I had an amazing time here, soaking up some well-needed Southern hospitality, and Cracker Barrell definitely does not disappoint. A local favorite, Cracker Barrell reminds me of precisely what I would imagine a Southern country restaurant to be. My coworkers and I patroned Cracker Barrell every morning and afternoon for our breakfasts and lunches...and we always left satisfied. The homestyle breakfasts are just what is needed to start the mornings right, from homemade buttermilk biscuits, hickory smoked ham, thick sliced bacon, and amazing sawmill gravy, to sourdough french toast and Wild Maine blueberry pancakes the size of my head! Now don't even get me started on the lunches! All the staples of country cooking are served here. Meatloaf, Country fried steak, Chicken and dumplings, enormous sandwiches, buiscuits, thick steaks, and the best steak fries I've ever had. They even offer a low carb menu for those attempting to be on a diet (though when you're in the South, being on a diet is near impossible!) The best part about Cracker Barrell, hands down, is the service. The waitresses recognized us by around the third day, and knew us by name by the fifth. This was the worst meal we've ever had at this location. My husband got a burger and substituted the fries for a side salad. The waitress neglected to tell him it was extra. It ended being a $12 burger. It was overcooked and dry. I ordered the lunch chicken special. It was AWFUL. It was so dry the waitress brought me a side of gravy to smother it. Didn't help much. Review is based on a couple of visits. If there's one thing to say as a positive about it, the food is pretty cheap, Today I had two eggs, three slices of bacon, two biscuits and hash browns for $6.95. But good gravy, the hassle. I had servers and customers bumping my chairs and brushing against me while I was eating, three or four conversations within earshot, and just generally people everywhere. The tables are so close together here that whenever someone would walk between, I would get distracted from my company and my meal because they were basically right up in my business, whether they were stopping for me or not. As a long time business traveler (40+ years on the road), I have eaten in a lot of different restaurants. Cracker Barrel was one of my favorites many years ago, but there has been a decline in quality of service system-wide- I rarely stop at a CB now, but tried again tonight. My pet peeve with Cracker Barrel is the lack of refills on coffee and water- two of the cheapest things to provide! Serve one cup as the waitress takes the order, delivers the meal, asks if I need anything- I ask for coffee, finally brings the coffee 10 minutes later with the check. I see this at all Cracker Barrel restaurants, not just this location. This is likely my last visit to a Cracker Barrel location. This is the CB that I visit the most. This location is better than average for Cracker Barrels. Early mornings ask for Sandy. He among the best servers anywhere. Most complaints originate with inexperienced servers. Tell the hostess you want a par 4 which should be the highest tier servers they have. Holy crap! This is officially the worst cracker barrel ever! Despite being fairly slow and empty, our server told us 5 times she'd be right back with our coffee refills. Not a drop oin sight for 15 minutes. Finally, two other servers appear with both coffee pots, and our breakfast; arguing amongst themselves, and talking smack about our server the whole time. Trying to be nice (and mellow), we said she hadn't dissappointed us, to which one if the servers replied, "oh yes she has, you just don't know it yet." At that point, our original server appeared, pissed that someone else was running her tables orders. We asked for ketchup and Tabasco (the second time), and the runners said they would get it, with our server snapping back at them that no, she would get it right away. Then she proceeded to continue busing the dirty table next to us, and disappearing again. Once the two new servers set our breakfasts down and walk away, we realize that our orders are wrong. Scrambled eggs suck without something on them (our choice? cheese and onions), as well as the ham was cooked so long, it appeared to be an experiment in making pork jerky (FYI CB, if this is the case in your test kitchens, you can tell them to stop now, it doesn't work. We love pork for the fat and juiciness). And then the bomb hits! Under our biscuits, is a hair. And not just any hair, but a long, dark hair, with the root still attached; laid perfectly across the bottom of the plate so that each biscuit was allowed to soak up those nasty germs. I'm not sure if the kitchen was pissed at our original server, or if the other two servers had an issue with her, or if this is a pretty standard experience for this CB, but I will definitely never be back to this location. The Wendy's down the street is a lot friendly, cleaner, and drama-free for the weary traveler just looking for a hot meal after driving 1800 miles from Phoenix. read more

One of the first restaurants I remember eating at as a kid was Cracker Barrel. I have been to a lot of them all over the Southeast and I have had an enjoyable experience at all of them but this is probably the most disappointing of them all. The food is good here, as good as any other Cracker Barrel. The problem is the service. You almost have to beg for your drink to be refilled. "Would you like cornbread or biscuits with your meal?" Yes I would, but I know I'm never going to get them. Very sad this place is right around the corner and I hardly eat there because of the constant bad service. read more

This location has the worst service I've ever experienced at a Cracker Barrel... Awful!! After waiting more than 30 minutes for our food, we flagged down the waitress who said our order was just put in 10 minutes ago. Then the manager came over and apologized that our order was lost. The table behind us only got 1/2 of their table's food and about 15 mins later, we realized that was our food. We finally got our food & it was cold. The manager took care of our check. As we were leaving, I decided to buy a scarf in the gift shop because there wasn't a line. Walked up to the open register but she was helping the other cashier with a customer disputing a price and walked off to check the price. After a few minutes, I asked the cashier if she could void that transaction & let us pay while they figured out the price. She said no. So, the line backed up behind us for another 5 minutes because there wasn't another cashier. Ridiculous! We ended up leaving without the scarf. We spent almost 2 hours at this Cracker Barrel and only waited 15 mins for a table so it wasn't that busy. Avoid this place!!! read more

Ate a great breakfast at the Moss Point Cracker Barrel today, went back for Supper. Was promptly seated and soon turned our order in at 6:40 and waited and waited. Others came in and were seated served and well underway eating. We were ignored and drank all of our water and ignored/shunned and at 7:16 our temper rose and we walked out. I regret we did so, but with my temper up i felt it was best. I've always had reasonable service at this site and will return, just not real soon. This is by far the worst Cracker Barrel I have ever been too. I ordered the special which was catfish fillets. They brought me out something that looked like fish sticks. Another person in our party orded the same thing I did and he got real Fish fillets. I told the waitress that my order was wrong. Roast beef, small red potatoes, tomato wedges, carrots, onions, and corn on the cob, all seasoned and wrapped up and sealed in heavy duty foil and served steaming hot. The roast was super tender and everything tasted out of this world. There isn't any doubt in my mind that I'll be back here very soon and there is no way I'll need a menu. Wow... That's basically all I can muster after this trip. I regret not reading these reviews before I stopped here, and I hope I can spare someone else the misery! For starters, not a single table was clean(they weren't busy) so the hostess had to clean our table before we could sit. Our server seemed friendly enough, she came over and took our drink and food order, and went straight to the kitchen. The drinks came out in a decent time frame as well as our side salads. Then we waited, and waited. While we were waiting our drinks diminished, even mine, and I barely get refills at restaurants. We waited a total of 50 minutes for grilled chicken tenders, roast beef, and a kid's burger. Everything was burnt, the roast beef was extremely tough, and the fries were cold. The only thing that was enjoyable were the turnip greens that have probably been in a warmer for sometime. My 5 year old didn't eat her burger and fries even with the aide of ketchup. During our attempt to eat this food the server finally brought our refills and then she disappeared again. I caught a glimpse of her cleaning in the kitchen, presumably so she could leave right after us, while we were sitting waiting for our ticket for at least 10 minutes. To put the cherry on top of this terrible experience we weren't even asked about our experience before or after we left the server no tip. If I could give less than one star I would. If you're thinking about eating here I urge you to reconsider. There is a Wendys and Waffle House in close proximity that I can assure you will get better service and food at. read more

We travel across I-10 to Mobile, Al every month and stop at Cracker Barrels to dine. We have stopped two different times at the Moss Point location and the attitude is reprehensible. 1) Wife ordered Fried Shrimp, they were cooked in burnt oil. Very dark, bad taste. We ask the manager about the food. He said, "this is what they should look like" ask about the taste, reply "you do not know what you are talking about". I owned operated restaurants as a franchisee, I know what fried food should look like and I know what Shrimp should taste like. 2) Stopped for breakfast last week, no one at the podium waited five minutes, poked my head in the dining room where I almost got it bitten off by a male server. Several minutes later he came out and I ask for a window table (dining room near empty) and jokingly ask for a good server. I was greeted with a sneer, throwing his head back making a smart remark. We simply told the male server we did not have to dine with this store. We left and will never stop again. The management should be changed out, they are destroying this store. read more

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. The service was awful. They sat the 5 of us at a 4 person table and then one of the waitresses bumped into my son's chair making it hit my husband's knee and she had the nerve to give my son a dirty look. I had to ask 3 different people for silverware AFTER we got our food. Only 1 person actually brought some and she just walked a few feet away to get it. Our waitress tried to lie and say they ran out of silverware when several other people were getting theirs from the hostess. It took a long time to get our food and my son's glass was empty most of the time. We even had to remind them to bring our biscuits. So I guess mentioning the fact that our food was cold is as obvious as the smell of fish guts outside this establishment. Thank goodness for the potpourri and scented candles inside. Our waitress was only interested in small talk after we were mad and wanted to get the hell out of there. If "MEAAAHHHGGNNN" spent less time screwing around with how her name looks on the receipt and more time doing her job right, she might have actually gotten a tip.
