Our waitress was very kind and courteous, and I could tell she was doing her best under pressure. Unfortunately, the kitchen delays were significant. I ordered the roast, which was listed as the daily special, but was told the long wait was because it was still in the oven. When it finally arrived, it was lukewarm, suggesting it had actually been sitting for some time. The flavor was acceptable but not something I would order again. The biscuits were excellent--warm, fluffy, and exactly what Cracker Barrel is known for. The mashed potatoes and green beans were also well-prepared and satisfying. Decided to try something new at Cracker Barrel and got the Maple Bacon Grilled Chicken from the Home-Cooked Classics menu. The Home-Cooked Classics are served on blue printed plates, and that does make for a nice presentation. Generous portion of chicken. The bacon on top of course made it even better. Chicken was nicely cooked; not dry. My sides were pretty run of the mill--mac and cheese and cinnamon apples. These are always a pretty good bet, and they tasted as they always do. My request was a preference, and never having had it before, I didn't know if it came in a bottle like the regular or not. The food was dropped off, and I was just about to crack open the bottle (without reading it) when the waitress hustled out and said, "Wait--this is your syrup." (It came in a condiment cup.) Well, right before they decided to go Nashville and make an ass of themselves, my wife and I ate there the night prior. She ordered fish and I ordered pancakes. She got chicken fried to a crisp that you couldn't even break it open, but they swore it was fish. The pancakes I had I could not even cut with the steak knife. They comped the whole meal, but what I learned was is, they have fired all of their chefs and are hiring kids to be lying cooks and teaching them on the job. While on a trip to Florida, my family and I stopped here for breakfast. Here's my personal review: For the most part, the restaurant is clean. The ambience is as mentioned; casual and loud. The wait time for food was unexpectedly fast. I ordered 1 chocolate chip pancake, 3 scrambled eggs, and 2 sausages. I got 2 pancakes, because it's "cheaper"? Don't know how, but I shared the other pancake with my brother. The waitress was kind to us, and took our orders. The men's bathroom is as expected: it's clean. I didn't use the toilet so I can't review that part of the men's bathroom. I recommend this place for people who are traveling and want a place to eat. read more

This particular Cracker Barrel is located just off of Interstate 65 in Prattville, Alabama. The store part was pretty cool and the staff here was extremely friendly. The restaurant part, while not bad, is also nothing spectacular. The best meal that they offer is breakfast. Of course, this is only my opinion. OK, we've finally learned our lesson. This is the poorest run Cracker Barrel in the region. Waited over an hour without receiving our order. After 40 minutes, our server sent another server over to apologize for the delay, and that our orders were being made. Five minutes later, she apologized herself. I smiled and said we understood, and that a coffee refill would help. Ten minutes later, no coffee, no food. We left, and still paid $7 for coffee. Had this been the first time, we might chalk it up to a bad night. However, this has probably happened to us four or five times. Each time, we stay away for months, then have an acceptable experience or two before another snafu. I would not recommend stopping here if you are traveling. We waited 5-10 minutes for the hostess to return to her station. Then had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. We were a party of 3 and they were not that busy. We received our drinks quickly but were never offered biscuits or cornbread and the waitress never checked on us again. I've been to numerous Cracker Barrel locations over the years and I'll give one thing to this chain; they are consistent for breakfast. I've never had anything but breakfast at a Cracker Barrel. This Cracker Barrel is no different. The servers here were slammed with a full house but they handled it in stride. Our orders arrived in a reasonable amount of time and for the most part they were pretty good. I ordered the Old Timers Breakfast which comes with eggs, bacon, two sides and biscuits and gravy. My sides were grits and baked apples. Eggs were good, bacon was very good, apples were fantastic, grits were passable as grits, the biscuits were a little burnt on the bottom. The problem with the biscuits and gravy is they bring out a plate for the whole table (4 of us) and one small bowl of gravy for the entire plate. I could barely cover my biscuit and leave enough for everyone else. Other than that, Cramer Barrel makes an ok breakfast. Nothing spectacular but pretty good. read more

It was a Saturday evening and we came there to eat dinner as a family. We decided to go to Cracker Barrell in Montgomery because we knew the food and enjoyed it. There were 8 of us and we could not fit at one table so we asked them if we could put 2 tables together so we could stay together. The Host said that they could not do it because it was policy. I asked again about that and she said there is NO way that they could do that. We looked into the dining room and we saw 3 tables, all next to each other, empty. I looked at that and said how about those tables and I said that we would be a very easy table and still no. She said that she could sit is at separate tables next to each other. There were 3 sets of families that live in different cities and states and we hardly see each other in person and what I thought would be a simple ask because a hassle. I honestly don't think that the host cared and it almost felt like she seemed like she won. That is when we decided that it was best for us not to contribute to their organization and went elsewhere and the other restaurant was extremely accommodating by helping us move the tables to make sure we were comfortable. I would think that bringing in customers is important for restaurants especially since margins are tight but for a simple ask like that, I guess they would go by "Their Policy" about NOT combing tables. I feel bad for the families that would want to have a party or rehearsal dinner at a Cracker Barrell. Bathroom and restraint smelled horrible like old urine although couldn't see any visible urine. The entire restaurant needed a good cleaning and did not smell clean at all. Service was slow and ended up having to leave after an hour without ever receiving the dumplings that were ordered with one of the meals. Not typical service or cleanliness that is typical at Cracker Barrel. There were only a few other customers that was not a reason for the slow service.
