We always enjoy coming to Cracker Barrel for all of our favorites. Glad that the corporate office abandoned their gutting of the elements that set Cracker Barrel apart from the other "down home" traditional sit-down restaurants. Our server was excellent and did well to tend to our needs but was very busy as we came at peak hours for lunch/brunch. Pancakes were great, as usual. We had to ask for extra syrup, but the food was great. The hash brown casserole was delicious as always and meats were great and cooked to perfection. My family and I really enjoy Cracker Barrel and have for years. I hope that in the future, they do not continue to try to reach broader appeal by removing some of the staples that make it what it is. If I wanted to eat at Applebee's or another franchise establishment - I go to those. When I go to Cracker Barrel, I come for what is traditionally trademark of their fare and atmosphere. Making your menu or atmosphere similar to other restaurants thins out your own unique and very appealing brand - selling out to the cheapness of other restaurant brands and takes on the problems that have kept them stymied. As a friend used to say, "You be you." People come to Cracker Barrel for what it is - but also as much so for what it ISN'T. Do not forget that. read more

Arriving late and leaving early, we did not spend much time at this Cracker Barrel inside. A quick stop to use the restrooms and pick up some candy for Mrs. K., but then it was back to the Sprinter van for the night. Yes, Cracker Barrel still tolerates the RVlife and lets us use their parking lot for free for overnight parking. There's the polite request that if you're dining, you should pay them back for this courtesy by buying a meal. Sadly, we missed out on dining hours but we will absolutely get them on the next one. We stopped here for dinner as were used to the menu. Aidan C was a great server, quick with our order & always smiling. We both had the grilled rainbow trout with 2 sides , the plates were a good serving and came with free refill sodas . I had the seasoned rice and steak fries and the wife had broccoli and green beans. Prices were reasonable and it wasn't very crowded for a dinner rush. Restaurant & bathrooms were SO clean. I would have complained if I had any real faith that the manager would have displayed any greater care than anybody I experienced at this restaurant. We ordered breakfast. I ordered 2 fried eggs, very well done, dry. They came out medium. I asked them to redo it to make them dry. The waitress was very nice and took them back and she said they were going to make them over. When they came back, it was the same way I sent them back the first time My husband ordered the skillet, with eggs, bacon and cheese. It looked and tasted like mush. The biscuits were salty and weren't cooked properly, they were white, not golden brown and they were not flaky. The only thing that was good was the coffee. Went to eat for Fathers Day and my brothers birthday. They split our party of 7 up because of my baby. They counted her as eating . So we had to sit in different areas and Facetime during our meals to visit. What a disappointment. They should post this on website so people dont drive all the way to the restaurant. another review tried them again and pricing is ridiculous for the small portions you receive. We waiting over an hour for what looked like was child portions and they forgot our hash browns as well. The waitress never came back to check on us until our food was finished but by then we were so disappointed we asked for her to take it off and bring our bill. I met an out of town friend for breakfast at 9:30 this past Saturday. We were seated, order given. 15 minutes later the waitress comes out and asks me how I want my catfish cooked??? On my breakfast platter. I asked her to please not touch my breakfast with catfish and we got that confusion settled. We waited an hour and a half after that was fixed and never received our order. I wrote a review to Cracker Barrel and got some generic response. Today I receive a $20 voucher from them. Cracker Barrel is a convenient place to eat while traveling. You don't expect much but it is usually adequate not the case in this location. I ordered what they called smoke house grilled chicken which turned out to be 2 pieces of grilled chicken breast covered in paprika that was burnt on to it in the grill floating in some kind of brown liquid the chicken was tough and full of gristle and had an unpleasant chewy texture and foul taste. I don't know where the smoke house name came from since it didn't taste smoked or bbqed if it wasn't for the burned paprika it was flavorless and just nasty. This will be our last Cracker barrel stop forever. read more

One of the best Cracker Barrel experiences. Everyone was so nice to us and the food was the best we ever had in a Cracker Barrel. The host even cleaned our table when he noticed it was not cleaned properly to his standards. The server was quick to serve us and polite. Even when he forgot my condiment, he was quick to correct it. My steak was cooked medium rare and to perfection. My favorite vegetable side there was cooked well. We ordered a takeout of five servings of green beans in a casserole dish. It was still delicious after three days in the fridge. Definitely a Cracker Barrel I would go to again. read more

Cracker Barrel has been slipping fast. This Troutville location offers slow service, forgotten items, cold coffee, incorrect coffee (decaf drinker), semi raw bacon. Lack of coffee refills. I asked for these items and eventually received them. But the replacement bacon was still limp and greasy and the food turned cold and it was generally an unpleasant experience. This has happened the last few visits at various Cracker Barrel's. They've slipped down the hill to poor quality/service. They never seem to forget asking for a tip and donation when you checkout. read more

We got only part of what we ordered and when we asked for the rest it was the wrong order. All of the food was cold. We were charged full price for the wrong order and when asked to correct it the manager only slightly reduced the price. Were told to wait for the correct order or pay for the cold food we didn't want. We will not be going back. read more

Well, I don't know what's going on in this town on a Saturday night, because this place was packed. We had a 45 minute wait. But we were too tired to go elsewhere after a long day of driving. Sean was our server and he kept up his cheery demeanor throughout. Unfortunately they sat us at a table in the far corner near the fire exit and it was cold. Even the couple next to us went out to the car to get sweaters. So we ordered lots of coffee, and I had a pot pie - those will always warm you up. My husband had the hamburger steak with no gravy or onions. Note: they won't cook a burger less than medium. The room was so cold that the butter wouldn't melt or even soften on the warm biscuits (which weren't warm long). The pot pie was good, the hamburger steak was okay. From the time we arrived at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, I could foresee that we were up for an amazing eating and shopping experience. As we walked to the entrance door, we could see many wooden rockers lined up across the long porch and a wooden barrel next to the front entrance door. Everything was so simple and plain, yet communicating the warmth of family and friends gathering along the porch to share special moments together. As we entered the front door, we were surprised to see an overcrowded store but very well organized and with interesting and very attractive merchandise. We couldn't help it but walk around and look at everything there for sale. Then, after a while, we reached the entrance of the restaurant. A very friendly host greeted us with a big smile and walked us to our table. As we did so, we passed by a gigantic fireplace that was intensely burning with freshly cut firewood. Next to the fireplace was a wonderfully decorated Christmas Tree. These gave the place a very warm ambiance and a homey feeling. We sat down with the menu, that had a few but very select southern food items. I ordered the Maple Bacon Grilled Chicken with mashed potatoes and fried okra and my friend had the US Farm-Raised Catfish with two other sides. While we waited, our very friendly waitress brought us some cornbread and biscuits in a basket with butter. I enjoyed being there admiring the view around us and feeling the warmth of the hot flames of the burning wood in the fireplace and listening to the crackling pieces of wood as they burnt. The food was very well presented, delicious, and reasonably priced. For dessert my friend had Coca-Cola Cake and I had a piece of Chocolate Pecan Pie with a ball of vanilla ice cream. What can I say, that was the best Pecan Pie that I have ever had. Just extraordinary! I got food poisoning. First they forgot about us for half an hour and when we asked the hostest what's up they moved us to a new table. Then the lights randomly went out for like 10 minutes. Then the waiter argued with me about the menu and acted kinda mean when proven wrong by her manager. We came in at the end of day and the staff was welcoming and friendly. My husband had the Big Boy Breakfast and I had the fried catfish. Both meals were prepared well. (The fish crisp on the outside and tender on the inside) Our side of baked apples was also cooked well. CB, wherever I am is usually a reliable comfort place and I always look forward to going, however, this particular restaurant is zero for three on my visits. Service has been average to unfriendly, the hashbrown casserole has been heat lamp dry and tiny portioned, and the food, in general, hasn't met the standards I'm accustomed to at other Cracker Barrels. I came here with a group of friends (five of us in total) and was added to a wait list for a seat outside. With nothing left to do for about 20 minutes, we sat in our car and people watched. We watched as a couple was seated outside at a table set for six while there were other tables set for two waiting to be cleaned off. This meant that we had to continue waiting for another table set for six to become available. We watched as tables were hastily wiped down as they prepared for other patrons to sit. Finally we were called and they said that they'd seat us in the "back", which we were surprised by because we didn't realize there was another area with outside seating. So we all jumped out of the car, donned our masks, and headed into the restaurant, past seated families and other diners, a bit uneasy because we were trying to reduce our presence in congested area.... I mean after all, we're still in a pandemic. We "checked in" and followed the waitress who was called up to seat us. Imagine our surprise when we were taken right back out to where our car was parked, where we say watching the couple being seated. This was the "external seating area in the back". So why would they have us walk through the WHOLE restaurant only to be taken right back to where we started? We were very confused and perturbed by this. We were seated at a table set for 4 and had to pull up a chair, because, of course the table for six was taken by two people. We quickly wiped down the tables, ordered, paid and left. Our waitress was great, the food was okay (I got eggs and bacon) but really, we just weren't satisfied by the experience to want to stay there. It didn't feel like anything was done to reduce the spread of COVID. Some patrons wore masks, some didn't, there were no visible sanitizing stations in high traffic areas, and having us traipse through the building made no sense. Took a road trip to Tennessee for my niece's college orientation. My parents are from TN so have made this trip numerous times. My family always stops at a different Cracker Barrel along the way. My niece chose this particular Cracker Barrel as the one this trip. The restaurant wasn't too crowded as most can be. We were immediately greeted as soon as we walked in the door. Our server Aliyah was perfect! So friendly, quick with refills, great service! She chatted and listened, seemed genuinely interested in where we were headed. As I was driving down rt 81, there was a sign for Cracker Barrel every 15 minutes. I ordered the chicken fried chicken. The portions are generous. 2 huge chicken breasts. You have the option to pick either 2 or 3 sides. I decided on the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was a little too runny for my taste and had a piece of burnt cheese but it was flavorful. The mashed potatoes was good. I had asked for gravy on the side. I haven't really had too many bad experiences at any Cracker Barrel and I've probably been to about 10 different ones throughout a few states... I love that they have a gift shop where I can browse while waiting for a seat if there is a short wait. I love the rocking chairs for sale outside you can sit in and wait if you'd prefer to do that. I love their sweet tea. I love that they serve breakfast all day. I love their blueberry waffles and blueberry syrup for said waffles. I love their biscuits and gravy. I love the huge fireplace that is always burning in the winter. In short. I love it! Service at this particular location was prompt and our waitress was very friendly and attentive, but not overly so. The food arrived quickly, well prepared and delicious as always. I ordered the Country Boy Chicken Fried Break fast which comes with a generously sized breaded and country fried chicken breast smothered in white gravy, grits, two buttermilk biscuits with more white gravy on the side in a bowl, two eggs cooked to order, and a choice between their hashbrowns or cinnamon apples (both are amazing and it's hard to choose one - I chose apples this time). You can ask for jelly, honey, jam, apple butter for the biscuits. My chicken this time was a little overcooked and a tad hard but it was still good, just not as good as previous times I've been. The management of this location is lousy. I had to show my ID to two different people to be served a beer, and I am 71 years old. When I told the manager who brought the beer that I already showed it to the server, the manager still demanded to see it again. He said it was company policy, but we were not required to show our IDs at the Woodstock VA Crackerbarrel last night at all. Also, the rainbow trout at the Troutville location was overcooked and the floor was dirty. No one came to remove a caution stand in the middle of the aisle next to our table the whole time we were there, long after a spill that occurred before our arrival had dried. Numerous customers had to walk around it. We will not return to this location, and will share this poor experience with friends. read more
