Craft + Carry is a small chain of craft beer bars and bottleshops that opened in Brooklyn, New York in June 2017. It was founded by Dieter Seelig and his business partners Joshua Friedman & Brian Stapleton. The original location opened inside Delkab Market Hall in Downtown Brooklyn. Operating as both a taproom and a finely curated bottleshop, the popularity of the first location quickly took off. The partners next decided to branch out into Manhattan, with a second location opening in the Gramercy neighborhood. More success led to more locations opening up around New York City. As of this writing, there are seven Craft + Carry locations located throughout NYC. Each one features Cicerone-certified staff, over a dozen beers on draught, another 400+ available in bottles and cans, and an excellent craft beer delivery service with curated beer and cider available by packs or bottles. I recently visited Craft + Carry's St. Marks location (opened July 2019) while I was in the Village to see a concert. I arrived a few hours before the show so I could grab some beers and bites beforehand. I first stopped at Augurs Well (an excellent craft beer and burger joint) across the street for some beers and a burger. When I was leaving, I noticed the storefront across the street and decided to pop in and explore. The taproom was very inviting and there were a few other customers in attendance enjoying some draughts. I pulled up a seat at the bar and explored the impressive menu of about 16 different beers on draught. I decided to order a pour of Strangebird's "Earthborn Stranger" (Hazy Double IPA). It was excellent: an explosion of hops, citrus and tropical fruit notes! While there, I also checked out the impressive selection of bottles and cans in the refrigerators. Customers can also order draught offerings to go in growler and crowler fills. Overall, I was very impressed with my experience at Craft + Carry and would definitely stop at another location at some point in my NYC travels. read more

I like the variety in this bottle shop. I always find it harder to get decent darker beers, Amber's, marzen, brown lagers and stouts etc. Usually very quick service. They also have a long bar that seats about 16. Right now they also have outdoor seating structure. Low key vibe place to enjoy some craft beers. read more

I'm torn. I've been here a good amount of times and enjoy their beer selection, I actually received a great recommendation from one of their male associates on a sour beer, though I will say the prices are not cheap so expect to pay a premium, worth it for some of those bottles though. That being said, I had a very unfortunate experience recently outside their store. They have a seating area established outside of their bottle-shop which I initially thought was open neighborhood seating due to how it was structured. I sat there with my friend with our outside beers which to note, we did not purchase from Craft+Carry. Instead of being told that it was a customer only seating area and we'd need to purchase something in order to sit there (totally understandable but also at the time seating was a only quarter full), we were berated and called douche bags by Kendra, a bartender there who was very upset that we'd dare bring a Coors light near their establishment. I've spent a lot of money here but she "didn't recognize us" and was extremely rude to use, we left immediately. Maybe times have been tough with Coronavirus but the way we were treated for what I thought was a simple misunderstanding was not cool and I probably won't be coming back. If you are looking to buy beers togo then maybe it might be worth it but prepare for $$$$. read more

Fun spot to get a brew in the East village! they have an awesome outdoor setup and a back patio with good music playing. Beers are kinda pricey but it's always a good selection from local breweries that is constantly changing. The staff is always friendly too. Overall a good standby place in the neighborhood that I'll keep coming back to! read more

I decided to stop in here for beer after a long day at work tonight. I thought that I might have a quick crisp Pilsner or a lager after the amazing tacos at Birria on St Marks Place but then I noticed they did flights and had 20 beers on draught. That was exciting so I looked at their HDTV beer list (I guess a modern version of a proper chalkboard) and decided on a pils, a lager, an unfiltered wheat, and the last beer on their list which was the most interestingly exciting choice, a bitter (served by high pressure nitrogen process instead of being properly hand pulled from the big barrel in the basement as was done for hundreds of years). OK, I understand "Real Beer" oxidizes quickly since umeuricins have terrible taste in beer it needs to be kept under nitrogen so it doesn't spoil. That doesn't make it a "Nitro Beer". I asked the beer tender about the bitter and she had no idea what it was and called it "a nitro". She made a point of saying she had tried it and "it didn't seem bitter to her" at all. As every serious beer drinker knows it's a style, not a taste. Heavy on the malt without much hops. I asked her what she knew about Real Beer and it was nothing. I had been craving (even dreaming) about a proper hand pulled pint of "real beer" (bitter). I repeatedly thanked the bar (3 times) when I exited and got ignored. So to summarize my review of a so-called beer bar: They don't even know what a proper bitter beer is, strike one. The servers were cold and didn't know anything about Real Beer They wouldn't acknowledge my multiple attempts at a friendly exit, which every pub in the UK, especially Ireland, and Australia, NZ, etc would have been insulted if I hadn't of done. They don't know beer, they're rude and too expensive. There's no sense of a proper pub atmosphere and now I understand why it's always empty. Don't go. read more

Best spot if you love beer like I do! The 2 bartenders, Sloan, Alma & Zach were very spot on with choosing which beers I should try. I did from the tap, but they have so many other beer options in cans that you can take on the road. Service and selection was great. Beer tenders had great recommendations and I got to experience some great breweries I would've never guessed to try. Only issue is the music. I felt like I was drinking at an h&m at an upstate mall. Truly agonizing. I've come back on different occasions hoping I'd get a different playlist but apparently the beer tenders have no control over it. We've been to this place a few times, and plan to go back. Nothing but beer, but, really, what else do you need? More than a dozen are on tap, plenty more unusual ones available in cans. The beer-tender Jessie was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in figuring out which ones to try. We were able to bring in food from down the street and eat it there. There's a small but nice courtyard out back, and street seating, though the bar itself is well-ventilated and safe. Good place to watch a game, if that's your thing, but I found myself focusing on the varieties of beer on offer! read more

I've only bought beer to go here, twice. The first time I remember thinking that their prices are noticeably higher than at other bottle shops in the city and didn't feel any need to return. I went back today because they had a coronavirus coupon. Prices still too high for me, but the coupon made it worth it. Their selection of to go beers is pretty good. I will probably not go out of my way to come here though, since there are other bottle shops in the area that are more reasonably priced. read more

It's a bummer because the beer was good! The tables out on the road are very slanted. My friend's beer slipped right off the table into her lap. Writing this review has been a long time coming, because I didn't know how I felt about this place overall, until now. That's because, every trip I've taken was such a mixed bag. I just turned 21 and have since gotten into craft beer, especially niche sours. When I went to C&C the first time, I was blown away by the selection and the nice vibes inside, plus the very comfortable outdoor seating. The first two times I had went, it was the same two women who were working--super friendly, one of them even had a friend's dog that came over and said hi to us! After those two times though, my visits have gone very downhill. Those two women were very comfortable and chill, and every other worker I've met here since is, mostly, uptight and confused. After, every time that I've come, there's been a different protocol on if it's strictly waitstaff table service, or we go inside to get bottles, or we go inside to pick up any drinks and just sit outside--it's been super inconsistent. Plus, I've been going around roughly the same busy times, so I'm not sure why the structure would be so dynamic? I've had the occasional arrogant person behind the counter, who seems unhappy to be dealing with anybody at all. Recently, I took a trip there just looking to buy one Hermit Thrush beer (one of the only places I know that carry it), and I was denied because my ID is expired by a few months. I totally understand the legality and need to deny me if you notice the expiration (I've never been denied in these months, however, most places don't check). But, the man had a really condescending tone, even when pointing out that my birthday was recently; almost as though he was happy to see he couldn't serve me. Again, I understand the denial, but it felt very patronizing. Besides this, their beer selection is pretty good--that was my pull here. However, randomly, I find some of their prices to be highway robbery. I remember once seeing a sour on draft that I've bought at Whole Foods for $2 a can, selling for $10 for 10 ounces--not even a full can. Taking beers to stay is also inherently more expensive, normally by a good 2-3 dollars than if you took it to-go, explicitly indicated on the price tag. I guess I understand this, but I would appreciate it more if it were a standard (some beers don't have it and some do?) and if it weren't so stark of a difference between to-stay and to-go prices. Just out of curiosity one day, I asked an employee why some have the difference in price and some don't and he wasn't sure. I've asked employees questions about beer before as well, and there are definitely some which are more knowledgeable than others (to be expected). So at it's best, it's a comforting little craft sit-down beer store that's on the pricey side. And I've described how I've seen it for me, at its worst. I really liked having a beer here every so often, but it's become a bit too inconsistent for me. And if I'm just taking beer to-go, it's illogical to go here before other places because of the already inflated prices. read more

There is nothing about this business that makes any sense. Let's start with that none of the drafts are pint pours they are 10oz-14oz pours that are extremely expensive to drink small amounts of beer. The tap list is always hit or miss sometimes it has something decent but most of the time it's very basic craft beer. The most ridiculous thing they do is charge you 2 different prices on canned/bottled beer, either you pay for the can to drink at home or pay basically double the price of the can to drink it there. Kinda ridiculous and a bit of a turn off when I see something I wanna drink but it's $15 to sit and drink it but if I take it home it's $7. When I asked a staff member why it's priced this way he had zero explanation. I find that pretty unprofessional for a very expensive beer store. My major problem with this place is the staff. The staff are extremely extremely hit or miss. They either make you feel like family or make you feel like leaving because they are awkward and uncomfortable to be around. I was here yesterday and my girlfriend went in to buy her beer and the cashier was a total asshole to her about her very recently expired license and wouldn't let her order a beer. I don't think any underage college kid is looking to spend $15 on 1 beer. read more
