tl;dr Food was good, but not special. Everyone was nice, but not memorable. Not bad, but not great. Simply put, come for the beer, not the food. I doubt I'll be back. I've dined at Crafty Cow three times now. Once a few weeks after they opened, and twice in the last two months. One thing they have down is their beer selection. Tons of craft brews on tap (a welcome addition to the Five-O's), a huge bar, tons of tables, seasonal menu options including house-made sausages, etc. But.. It's always cold inside, doesn't matter the season. And, if you are stuck in the back half, you'll be freezing. To top it off, the prices are higher than expected. A burger at most restaurants usually include a side of some sort, but nope, not here, that'll cost extra. So... let me dig into the food. Appetizers: Fried green beans; great, but honestly, they are hard to mess up. French fries; decent house cut fries, but they had little seasoning and are terrible once they cool down (which is hard to prevent in a cold building). Pig pens; I love pickle roll-ups, I love the dip version too. But these fried, wonton wrapped, monstrosities with soy sauce were disappointing, especially for the cost (you can order a burger for the same price). I've ordered the PB&B twice. First time (check my photo from March 8, 2015) I thought it was great, except that I couldn't choose how I wanted it cooked... Head's up, I'm a sucker for peanut butter on a burger. Their house made pickles are perfect, the bacon was perfectly cooked, and there was a generous amount of peanut butter slathered on. A great combination of salt and tang. Second time, it was mediocre. The hamburger meat was mealy, there was little peanut butter on it, and in the end it just left me underwhelmed. My wife has ordered the Hangover. She didn't say much about it, but the fact that she did not even eat half of it meant the burger wasn't great. For my third visit, I ordered the Twice Baked. There was no flavor pop, no crunch to the potato chips, just a bland texture and flavor. I was disappointed, and even considered asking for something else. Parking is on the street from what I saw but there may be a lot. I arrived just before 5 so I got a spot right at the front door. I had a cheesehead burger. So our waitress was a little odd, But food was mmm mmm good! I ordered the bleu burger with a flight of dark beers. My fav was the nitro chocolate stout. Super yummy. Fries are extra. Boo. So we opted for none. Sister and uncle both got this amazing bloody Mary with bacon. Very tasty but yikes L.A. prices in this little town! I'm used to it, being from L.A., but wasn't prepared for small town America to be so pricey.m and the cups were rather small for the price. At least in L.A. we get fries with or burgers (most of the time). Sis had a bacon and cheese burger and uncle had a pepper and cheese one. All burgers were stuffed with mmm mmm yum Wisconsin cheese. Came to Oconomowoc with some friends and they said we have to order from the Crafty Cow, it's so good! I've heard a few rumblings about this place so I was excited to finally be able to check it out. Currently they're only doing to go or delivery orders, so my review is going to be based 100% on my experience with that. First off, the online order process is super easy. For some places that isn't always the case, so I was really happy with that. Our food was ready within 20 minutes, which is what I would expect for two meals. When we got there we called and within a few minutes they brought out food outside to us. This was great. I had the Spinach Artichoke Dip Burger and my husband ordered the Memphis Cheesesteak Entree with the hot peppers on the side. When I checked our bag for our good I was a little surprised to see that we didn't have any napkins or silverware (would have needed the plastic silverware for the peppers). That was kind of disappointing, fortunately at least we had napkins in our car. Our total food bill was about $25 for the two sandwiches. If we had gotten say a bag of chips, a side of coleslaw, fries, something else with our meals I think we would have been fine with the bill price. I might be able to understand my burger not having a side because it's just a burger. But for the entree my husband ordered I would have expected a little more than what he got. He also mentioned the cheese on his cheesesteak seemed cheap, like nacho cheese sauce. If he was paying a little less for his meal he probably wouldn't have minded, but with the pricing he was a little let down. My Spinach Artichoke Dip Burger was really tasty and I would order it again. I'd be interested in coming back here after the restaurant is fully opened up to check out the ambiance and to give this place a second chance. I know we are all eager to get back to 'normal' so I have to believe that the dine in experience is different than the takeout we had today. read more

This trendy Restaurant has uniquely tasty burgers and a good selection of craft beers. A little on the pricey side but you do get quality burgers and drinks. I went with the El Jefe burger. It was like eating a taco in burger form with a juicy beef patty, carne asada, guacamole, corn, beans, pico de gallo, and tortilla chips. My friend enjoyed the Fish Tacos. We ordered fries, they were a bit soggy in grease, so I might pass on them next time. But the drinks where one of a kind. We became merry with an Imperial Stout from NY called Evil Twin Even More Coco Jesus, a Sweet Milk Stout on Nitro from WI called Door County Silurian Stout, and a Barrel Brandy. We went to Crafty Cow on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't overly busy but still loud. The building is wheelchair accessible in the broadest sense. There are no stairs but you can barely get through the bar area and bar height tables and the greeter seemed confused by our request to sit at an empty table where we could see each other and talk to each other. Appetizers were the highlight of our meal. The pretzels were good, as was the Fryapalooza, but it ends there. The prices are ridiculously shocking once you learn that you're paying over $9 for just a burger and a pickle. No sides. On one of our entrees the cheese in the stuffed bacon cheese burger fell out on the first bite and overall tasted funny. The bacon, being bacon, was delicious. More disturbing was we were seated near the service window to the kitchen, a waitress was carrying a burger which fell over into her shirt and hair. She went back and asked the chef to "fix it". A minute later she came back with the same burger. She looked away when we made eye contact and my sister said she should be asking for a new burger. You could see the stain where the burger topping touched her shirt and her hair was not pulled back. Eww. Menu is not kid friendly in any way. We would recommend nor will we return. You can't go wrong here. The fish tacos are the best I've had outside of San Diego. Big chunks of cod, light batter, yummy sauce and fresh avo. (Side guac was good too.) THE FRIES. They are legit boardwalk fries and I'm pretty sure they put a dash of Old Bay on which makes them magic!!! So they got west coast covered and east coast which is why they are perfect in Oconomowoc. Look...This place is so much more than just beer. Yes, they have a TON of different brews on tap, and are always getting more. However, the food is just as good as the beer! The decor is a mix of western, punk, and modern (if that makes sense). Let's get to it! The food!!! We ordered an appetizer of cheese curds (It's Wisconsin, so it's a must), and we were not disappointed! I've had many a curd in my day, but these babies were perfection. Most curds are fried to the crunchy extreme, and sometimes you lose that cheese due to the heat. Not these! Every bite was like biting into a cloud! Seriously, a CLOUD! The batter was light and fluffy, like funnel cake batter, so the cheese was thick and melty. Let that sink; a funnel cake cheese curd. Welcome to America! They are served with a side of ranch dressing, as this is the Midwest, and ranch is life here. Now onto the burgers! Please note, that none of their burgers come with fries; if you want them then you need to order them. Not a big deal, as it lets you feel okay to get an appetizer. We both ordered the "Hercules Burger," which is a patty stuffed with feta cheese, and the burger is topped with gyro seasoned flank steak (yep, you read that right), tzatziki sauce (homemade), red onions, and tomatoes. The patty sits on a bed of fresh spinach. This burger was simply delicious! It wasn't over or undercooked, it wasn't too thick or too thin. The fresh vegetables paired perfectly with the ground beef patty and the flank steak, and I personally believe the flank steak made the burger. The bun was toasted and flaky. Honestly, it was one of the best burgers I have ever had, and I'm marrying a man who is king of burgers! Seriously, you need to check this place out. The beer choice is great, as it should be. I visited Crafty Cow a second and third time and I'm pleased to report that they are now deserving of a 5 star review. The restaurant and bar is small and comfortable, with plenty of TVs. They offer a unique and always changing beer list. I got to try some cool barrel-aged whisky beers from Indianapolis and they were interesting and refreshing. The reason you come to the Crafty Cow is for the burgers, and they don't disappoint. I tried the "hangover:" stuffed with onions, jalapeños, and topped with an egg. Truly delicious. The meat was some of the freshest I've ever tasted, the toppings were generous and flavorful, and even the bun felt special. The best part of the meal was the stellar sweet potato fries. I had a large welcome party/rehearsal dinner of around 90 people at the Crafty Cow on my wedding weekend, and I could not have been happier with how everything went. Alyx is a rockstar who had amazing communication leading up and set us up with a perfect menu of samples of burgers, salads, and apps for everyone to try. The food was awesome! The whole staff took great care of all of our guests and we got so many compliments on what a great party it was. My husband and I stumbled upon Crafty Cow looking for a good beer/burger combo place en route from Milwaukee to Madison a couple years ago. We have since made it a routine stop whenever we can. Our food has always been amazing (we've tried 4-5 of the 16 burger pre-set options) and have raved about each one - my personal favorite so far is the PB&B. The brunch menu looks ridiculous but we've always went the burger route. Beer choices have never disappointed, and a great mix of local and regional bests. Oh, and the French Fries are probably the best yet, even better (in our opinion) than Mr. Brews', which we love. Also, service has been top notch every time, including when our daughter's soccer team stopped on a busy Sunday - food was fast and delivered at the same time. Great find. read more

Came here on a Saturday for an early dinner with my son. The restaurant was already starting to get busy, and the outside seating was full. We decided to sit at the bar, which gave us a great look at all of the tap beers. Just the taps alone had a great selection, nevermind the can and bottle selection. We selected a couple of barrel aged beers from Wisconsin to start with. There are some good regional taps on the menu, as well as some nice national options. For dinner, I chose the El Jefe Burger. It was stuffed with spicy cheese, and topped with Steak, guac, corn chips, mixed Pico, and more cheese. I ordered the Pico on the side, but after trying a bite of the burger with a bite of the Pico, quickly emptied the remainder of the container over the already stacked high Burger. What a great combination of flavors! Would order this again in a heartbeat. My son ordered the dirty Swiss, which was stuffed with (duh) Swiss and mushrooms, and topped with caramelized onions. We really liked our burgers and chicken sandwich that we had Door Dash delivered on Sunday. It was expensive and a nice treat. I kept thinking about that spicy chicken sandwich. I ordered it today from their website and picked it up. First, I was charged $2.00 MORE for the sandwich than I was charged Sunday. Second, it's just a sandwich. No fries. No tots. I think $14.00 is expensive for this area for a single regular sandwich. Lastly, it was a mess; impossible to eat as a sandwich. I used a fork and knife but it just wasn't as good.
