Pros: -Huge menu -Good, consistent food -Servers have always been nice -Quick seating when not a special day (Mother's/Father's Day/etc.) Cons: -Crowded on special days There are a few things on this menu that have never let me down (knock on wood) and they are: Turkey Avocado BLT - the homemade focaccia hoagie brings this home in a big way! Great Morning Wrap - always has the right ratio of ingredients so you get a little of everything in each bite. PRO TIP: ask for an extra side of the chipotle mayo. Other things that we have tried and enjoyed: Chicken Dumpling Soup -- always recommended by those who have tried it. Steak and Eggs - good portion for the price and well seasoned. Eggs Benedict - really rich hollandaise sauce, and the fresh arugala balances well against that richness. This is one of my wife's favs. Biscuits & Gravy - this definitely ranges, better sometimes vs. others,but that range is great (4.5*) to good (3.5*). It just depends on the day that you go I have probably eaten at Maxim's 12-15 times and have never had an unsatisfying experience. I am sure that they will treat you right too! read more

Adorable restaurant located in a building that is adjacent to the railroad in Oconomowoc. Decorated with railway decor. We were seated immediately, and service was good. We ordered a few different things for lunch. The French onion soup was very salty, but the brisket sandwich that they had on the menu was amazing. The brisket was like butter. I had a large Cobb salad, which some of the things in it tasted very chemical like. The lettuce and the cucumbers, especially had some strange chemical taste. Slightly acidic. I can't put my finger on it. I would not recommend. All in all, if you're looking for a place for brunch while you're in Oconomowoc, you might wanna stop in here just for an experience once. I don't know that we will be back, but you never know. I will say there is a large variety across three menus. So somebody should be able to find something that they like. read more

We have visited a few times for brunch and love the vibe here. The train at the front space gives a nice nod to the history of the depot. And if you're lucky, someone will be there to let you see the train run. It's cool to see the train speed by when it comes through town. The food is pretty on par with other diner food. This unique dining experience is a must if you're anywhere near for the whimsical train related decor, inside and out. If you love trains, it's worth an hour drive or more. The service is good, the food is okay. breakfast is good. I'm not sure why this is, but the service is best in between when it's really busy (weekend evenings) and when it's totally dead (when service is slow and the food not always hot). Well, I left a review after Mother's Day but I see it never got on here so I will leave it again. I waitress was great. Our food was great. But we waited almost 2 hours after our reservation that was ridiculous. Why do we make a reservation if we're gonna wait that long. Obviously they just let anybody and they did not go by any reservations. The place was packed. people stood which we also stood. So many people complaining about the reservation we did not plan on spending the whole afternoon at this place. We figured we made the reservation. We could get out of there and go on with our afternoon but no we spent over three hours in that restaurant two hours waiting for our seats two hours after our reservation and then another hour waiting for our food. Maybe you should consider not making reservations and not having people come in and expect to be seated within a half an hour of the reservation. And maybe not do so many people because you certainly couldn't handle it. Very upset ruined our whole afternoon now I wanna see if this kid put on apparently you must take off the bad complaints. read more

Just went to Maxim's for the first time. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I was very satisfied. The atmosphere was really cool as it is on an old train station and had multiple dining room rooms and actually had real trains zooming by 40 miles an hour right outside the window of our table . The service was good nothing over the top just plain old good service. Kept my drink full. The food exceeded my expectations as it was all plated aesthetically and tasted very good. Monique was FANTASTIC. We had a group of 4 and she gave us super great service on top of vibing really well with our group. I'm known for going through my soda really fast and she gave me a full pitcher to refill my drink. Food was amazing today as well. Cheese curds are an absolute MUST-HAVE because of how giant they are, how soft that cheese is, and how nice that beer batter outside is. Of the two locations, this one is the cooler place to go because of the train depot setting. Highly recommend going at least once and if you do, get Monique (any day but monday). read more

Really impressed. Came in with the family for lunch. This place is cool. Right next to the train tracks so the kids could see the passing train while they ate. There a cool model train inside. Lots of seating. A great dessert display. I got the cup of mushrooms jalapeno bacon soup and the half arugula beet and goat cheese salad. Everything was fresh b and a great value. My uncle got the mango avocado salad which looked so good and fresh and soup. My daughter got a burger which was cooked to perfection and a side salad. And the lids for grilled cheese and fries. The waitress was friendly and prompt. We grabbed a few desserts on the way out. Carrot cake, pecan turtle pie, and rum cake. All were delicious but my favorite was the pecan turtle pie by far!!! The food was terrible!!! I ordered the gyro dinner. The meat looked like it was a left that was thrown on the grill and reheated. The meat was dried out and half burnt. The tzaziki sauce tasted like it was made with sweet yogurt, also terrible. My wife ordered a Greek salad with salmon. The lettuce looked old and the salmon was over cooked...way over cooked. I've had trouble in the past with their food. Turkey burger substituted with veggie burger. Again terrible. Won't be returning soon. read more

In town for a high school football game, to Yelp I went looking for a local option that wasn't fast food. Yelp produces fun places like this that without being local I would miss! If you are in Wisconsin at all and have a "train person" visiting, you have to make a trip here. Comfort food classics, homemade chicken dumpling soup, served 364 days a year in a converted train station. We were seated right away during Friday dinner service. I wish my party had more time but we were running late so lacking deep review. All were impressed by the setting and would have liked to order desserts if time permitted. I love that this restaurant used to be the original train depot. It's so cool that much of the original wood floor is still used today. The train motif is done nicely and the working model train is a great addition. We arrived at around 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday. We were ecstatic that there was no wait time for seating (party of two). The bakery case looked amazing. The menu had a very nice selection including crepes and the usual breakfast fare. We ordered an order of the Irish scramble and a mushroom omelette. The Irish scramble was a very delicious combination of scrambled eggs with parsley and Swiss cheese accompanied by their corned beef hash. Your choice of toast is also included. I was very satisfied with this choice! Wonderful combination! My husband enjoyed his massive mushroom and spinach omelette, crispy hash browns and sourdough toast. Way too much food for one person! Met family here on a Fri. night and it was excellent. A couple of us had the Cajun Blackened Salmon served on a bed of garlic spinach over a potato patty and it was fantastic. Nice amount of heat without being overly spiced. I had the honey vinaigrette greens which was a nice change from your typical tossed salad. Had Lemon Raspberry torte for dessert but there were about 10 other desserts I could have chosen. A large slice and absolutely delicious. Others in our group had Salmon on a cedar plank and Shrimp Scampi. We all appreciated the wonderful meals and desserts. The old fashioneds and manhattans were great. We have to come back here more. It took me a while to get over for breakfast because I didn't have a great experience at the Brookfield location which I thought was dumpy. After looking at some of the pictures I felt it would be worthy of a breakfast stop. I love that it's in an old train station with a railroad theme and a small layout with other train displays. As you walk in you pass a good looking sweets case and I was told that they bake their own bread so maybe even the all the goodies that I saw. The place is open with booths on the walls and tables in the middle of the room. The menu has some great items but I saw a picture of real ham so I would do the two eggs with ham and hash browns with toast. I was excited to try the house made sourdough because it's my favorite. I had no real service issues except the three different people asking what to drink and none of the three actually brought me any water, my server did about 10 minutes after sitting down. I cut a piece of ham/egg and made my toast sandwich, my first thought was how tasty the buttered sourdough toast was, second was how good the ham was. My sunny side eggs were perfect with tall yokes. The ham was very good with a nice sweet flavor, not the smoked kind and perfect for breakfast. The hash browns with onions is my new thing after liking them from the Solly's breakfast a couple weeks ago. Unlike the Brookfield location the hash browns were really good here with a golden crust and soft on the inside, see my pictures because they look completely different. The sourdough toast was thin sliced with that nice little chew, when you see the crust you know it's the real deal and the star of my breakfast. To my surprise my server brought me two complementary fresh from the oven fresh blueberry mini muffins that smelled/tasted good. After eating at both locations I have had two completely different breakfast experiences with the Oconomowoc location getting two extra stars over the Brookfield location. This was a better than average breakfast with great quality ingredients so I would definitely recommend the place for breakfast. read more

We tried this place at the recommendation of the check-in agent at our condo rental place, who spoke highly of it. She was not wrong! The setting in the Old Train Depot was magnificent and provided a great ambiance. The town diorama at the entry point for the restaurant, replete with toy trains, was a fun touch. The entry wound its way past a small case of baked goods which induced conflicting feelings (in a good way!) between indulgence and eating a little more conventionally. We were seated immediately upon entry. Since it was just before 8 AM on a Sunday morning, it was not yet crowded. Our server Kathy did an excellent job taking care of us. The staff in general was very laid-back, friendly and accommodating, while still being quite efficient. My coffee cup was never empty. It was simply a relaxing place to be on a Sunday morning. It looked like they were setting up for a buffet brunch when we walked in, but we opted for the menu, which offered numerous tempting choices. My wife had the Mediterranean Scrambler with spinach, basil, tomato and feta cheese. It was accompanied by home fries and toast. I chose the Irish Scrambler, which had Swiss cheese with parsley served with corned beef hash and toast. Both were excellent. We had enough to take away for another meal each. The coffee was good while my wife enjoyed their tea selection, which included a Chai blend she found to her liking. The prices were more than reasonable. With our two breakfasts, coffee, tea, tax and tip, our total bill was $24. I thought this was an excellent value. We will definitely try to come back while we are here in town. read more

I ordered on a Friday night about 30 minutes in advance. The person who took my order was polite and I ordered a BLT with fries along with a French dip with fries. When I got there at the place was severely dead. Barely any patrons in the restaurant. I took my food at home, it wasn't under a heat lamp or anything so it didn't stay warm. My BLT bread was soggy. Along with very soggy fries not crunchy at all. I do not think I will be returning to this place to eat here again. The French dip was ok, My boyfriend seemed to like it. Ignore the bad reviews, I LOVE maxims! They consistently roll out great food with there great service. I come hear every time I'm in Oconomowoc. The story behind the restaurant it everything though! Converted from a old train station, the building is inches from the tracks allowing great views of trains if you happen to get lucky to see one. The menu has a wide verity of items, and was impressive as it was a hard decision of what to get (not very common for me). I will definitely be back and will always support small businesses like this one! read more
