I've been using Dr. Roberts as my dentist for the past several years now, and he is superb. He truly cares about his clients. I go twice a year for my cleanings, and I've had a few crowns done. My experience has been that I've been taken right away, the procedures have been relatively painless, and Dr. Roberts and staff are extremely attentive. The office is very well located. One of the exam rooms has a view of Washington Square Park, which I love. I would say that what I really like is the preventive dentistry that Dr. Roberts and staff have taught me - issues I never knew about. For example, my crowns were due to cracked teeth, which I didn't know were caused by grinding my teeth at night while asleep. Now that I have an occlusal device, no more teeth grinding - and no more cracked teeth. Future problems avoided. Also, I never knew about bacteria that thrive in an oxygen-free environment - bacteria that can exist under your crowns or between your teeth. The bacteria can cause cavities (and also bad breath and gum problems). Dr. Roberts and staff introduced me to a product and a tool that are both obtainable at any pharmacy over-the-counter. And again - preventive dentistry - future problems avoided. Plus my gums are so strong now, that I can go through a cleaning with no bleeding at all. Dr. Roberts is a relatively young dentist, but that is good because he knows most of the latest advances, and his equipment is mostly brand new. To sum up, you can't go wrong with Dr. Roberts and staff. I am extremely satisfied with the fantastic service and attentiveness. What's more, Dr. Roberts is truly empathetic and cares sincerely about his patients. I'm very happy that my primary doctor recommended Dr. Roberts. read more

I needed to find a local dentist for bi-annual cleanings and to extract my 2 wisdom teeth that I had been putting off. I went through my insurance webpage and randomly selected a dentist that did oral surgery. Probably not the best way to find a dentist, but boy did I luck out. Dr. Richman extracted my 2 wisdom teeth (one of which came in sideways below the gum) without knocking me out (I had nitrous for the procedure), and I did not have to go to an oral surgeon. He did a great job, and I was really happy to cross that off my list. Due to circumstance, I switched over to Dr. Craig Roberts, and he is really great too. My cleanings are not as painful as other dentists, and they are consistent and methodical. Dr. Craig is personable, friendly, and professional. They took my Met Life insurance, and now I'm on Guardian PPO, and they take that too. Barbara, the admin, is a total sweetheart too. She always tries to accommodate patients, and helped squeeze me in when the substitute admin forgot to enter my appointment into their calendar. I would definitely recommend Dr. Craig's office to anybody. read more

I came in for a cleaning, and it was one of the best cleanings I've ever had!! The hygienist was super thorough and had great attention to detail. She explains exactly what she is doing before she does it, so you feel comfortable and know what to expect. She also checks in on you just the right amount of times to make sure you are doing okay and just has an overall pleasant demeanor. FANTASTIC! I only had like less than 5 minutes with the actual dentist the first time which was fine because it was just a routine check-up and cleaning. Then I came back to see the doc for some fillings, and he was great! Really nice and so was the assistant. Everything went smoothly, and I didn't have to wait around for the doctor to try to juggle a bunch of other patients. I love small, low-key offices like this that make the experience as least painful as possible. Receptionist was really friendly and helpful. I didn't have to wait at all to get started or after I finished and booked my next appointment any of the times I came. read more

I've been coming here for years (decades?)...Dr. Roberts took over after the prior Dr (Dr. Glassman) passed away and the business was sold (?). I love coming here...no fear whatsoever no matter what is suggested. Clean, bright, music playing usually. I love that I get text messages to remind me of my appointments. I love that it is local to me and easily accessible. I had foot surgery recently and although he is on the 2nd floor, I was able to use an elevator to go up. Preventative care is always discussed. Some things I avoid and others I feel are worth it...such as having something inserted in my gums for bacterial prevention due to pocketing between two teeth. Although I have pocketing around other teeth, he didn't suggest the need for the prevention at this time, meaning to say he doesn't push products on you. He is honest, conversational...just a real guy. The staff is marvelous and attentive. As is always my concern, my insurance (Aetna Signature PPO) is accepted. Lastly, who can object to a goody bag :). That probably is the greatest thing...it's like being a child and going to a birthday party...love it. read more

Ok, so I found out about Craig through word of mouth (really -- no pun intended), and I was very glad that I did. In short, Craig is a fantastic dentist. Very competent, cool, nice to talk to, informative, lets you know what's going on while he's doing the work, which I find very reassuring. In addition to doing all of my checkups and other dental work, he recently took out my wisdom teeth. I've bounced through a lot of dentists, until I found Craig. He's a keeper. read more

The last time I saw Dr Roberts he told me there were three teeth that needed work. He worked on one tooth on that visit and asked me to schedule the other two. The tooth that he worked on was extremely sensitive for a very long time afterwards and as a result I was a little suspect of his work and hesitant to go back to him for the other two. I made an appointment with another Dentist for a second opinion and asked that my records be sent to me. After taking new x rays (Dr Roberts' x rays were too difficult to read) and doing a clinical exam, the new Dentist told me I only needed one tooth done. He also informed me that the chart that was sent by Dr Roberts was a mess and the very vague notes indicated that the same tooth was both completed and treatment planned for the next visit. What would have happened? Would they have filled that tooth twice and gotten paid by insurance twice? They lied to patients about Barbara, the front desk manager leaving. She did not retire, but was relieved of her duties. She is the reason I kept going there and to be so misleading about firing by saying she "retired" was shady. Another lie by omission is that they went out of network with my insurance (and almost all others) and never told me or anybody else. That is just plain unethical and maybe even illegal. read more

Started at this office with Dr. Glassman have stayed since the practice has been taken over by Dr.Roberts. I have never been at any office (dental, doctor or other) where everyone is as friendly, kind and having as much fun as this office. And besides that they do great work (no- very great work), and never do anything that doesn't need to be done. I've recommended them many times and have always heard good things back. And about the reviewer who doesn't like the receptionist Barbara - he must have no since of humor. Aside from her being a constant teaser and joker, she takes obvious pleasure and pride seeing her husbands excellent practice continue in the good hands of Dr. Roberts with new patients adding to the long line of old patients who wouldn't think of getting their teeth cared for any where else. read more

As a former patient I thought long and hard about writing a review, especially since I've left the NYC area. But since I continue to have issues with the work that was done on my tooth the last time I was there I feel like it's appropriate to post. Things started off well enough, and my first few visits went well for cleanings and other work. Then apparently there was some kind of staff turnover and everything went downhill pretty quickly from my perspective. I had an implant procedure finished there and several mistakes were made: the wrong color of filling was used (requiring an extra trip to fix) and the real kicker that they would no longer honor the insurance preauthorization. They tried billing me twice for the same work, and if I wasn't able to receive assistance from a friend in straightening out the issue with my insurance company I would have been royally screwed. Dr. Roberts office was of no help trying to fix this huge billing mishap. Maybe things have changed for the better in this office over the last year but I can only speak from experience. Approach with caution and keep an eye on your bills. read more

Dr. Roberts saved me one Saturday evening when my permanent retainer broke after chewing on a (redacted for embarrassing reasons), and I have been going to him ever since. His office stayed open and waited for me to make the annoying 40-ish minute trek it takes to get there on the weekend (usually a 15min weekday trip), thanks trains. Despite my tardiness on a Saturday night, he and his staff were extremely kind and helpful. He even fitted me for a new removable retainer that day! Whether you need a retainer fixed, teeth cleaned, or cavities filled (bc you haven't been to the dentist in way too long) this practice is extremely accommodating and wonderful to work with . They follow up with their patients more than any other medical practice I have been to. They clearly aim to please, and go to great lengths to make sure you are getting the care you need. I have always been afraid of going to the dentist. The idea of a stranger poking and prodding in my mouth gives me the chills. In 2004, I became a patient of Dr. Glassman. It was at that time going to the dentist stopped being something I dreaded, and became something I looked forward to. That is because the masked man prodding at my teeth was no longer a stranger, but a friend. I have fond memories of Dr. Glassman asking me inappropriate questions, while I was in the chair and not equipped to answer. I remember Dr. Glassman's sweetheart of a receptionist Barbara, who I later learned to be Dr. Glassman's wife, offer me sugary baked goods as I scheduled followup appointments. At first I thought this was a clever ploy aimed at guaranteeing future dental problems to remedy, but it was just the kindness and energy natural to that office. When Dr. Glassman passed away, I had no intention of staying with the practice. I was living in north of the city and the commute was a real pain. However, at the behest of Barbara, I became a patient of Dr. Roberts and it was satisfactory. Last week, I came to the office and Barbara wasn't at the front desk and it was not the playful environment I used to enjoy. It was cold and machine-like. After 11 years, I now remember why I hate going to the dentist. Barbara was distracting me from the fact that the man prodding at my teeth was no longer a friend. He was a stranger and a businessman. He provided a service and I paid him accordingly. Dr. Glassman's warmth and kindness had been replaced with cold transactional logic. I gave Dr. Roberts two stars because, as far as I can tell, the dental work is competent. If you live near his office, you can go to Dr. Roberts and get ok dental work. If you have to take a subway to get to him, find someone else. read more

Honestly the best experience at any dentist's office I've ever had. Nellie at the front is the kindest woman who always helps with insurance questions and Dr. Roberts was understanding/thoughtful when I told him I loved drinking juice (which probably caused more of my cavities!) instead of telling me I should stop all together. Nelly and the other front desk staff are the absolulte sweetest. Every person I encounter there is very friendly and knowledgeable. I'm one of those people who never outgrew being scared of drills and other dental equipment, but Dr. Roberts is so patient with me, they makes it easier for a scaredy cat like me. I've been a patient at this office for nearly a decade. Dr. Roberts has been my dentist for a few years; however, I was originally a patient of the late Dr. Glassman. I continued on as a patient because I'm in love with Barbara: the secretary who has been at this practice from the very beginning. Her combination of authority, professionalism, and compassion distinguishes this office from other practices in the city. On my most recent visit, a few days ago, I found the office to be unrecognizable. It was stripped of its decades-old patina of warmth and familiarity. It was Barbara-less! Dr. Roberts is good at what he does but I'm not motivated to remain a patient here. read more

This has been my dental office for years and I recommend them. Dr. Roberts is very friendly, personable and professional. I have had a couple of cavities drilled and filled with zero issues, and it was always quick and pain-free. Barbara at the front desk is, as others have said, a real sweetheart. Peter Glassman was my original dentist, someone I grew to love. He did the unthinkable - he made me not mind going to the dentist. When he died unexpectedly a few years ago, Craig Roberts took over the practice and kept on Peter's wife, Barbara, who managed the office. Dr. Roberts was friendly and polite, but lacked Dr. Glassman's skill set. His work was often painful, and I found myself having to go back to have work re-done. Out of respect to Barbara, I kept on coming back, but requested to see other dentists who were working there. I recently discovered Barbara is no longer with the practice - and while I am saddened to no longer see her, I happy to no longer be obligated to see this dentist ever again. read more

The first shock was experiencing a bizarrely oedipal situation in this office. The second is reading some of these great reviews, and can't help but notice how many mention the receptionist, Barbara Glassman. Do any medical/dental reviews go beyond a brief comment about "staff?" She is the widow of the dentist who had the practice and sold it to Dr. Roberts, who looks maybe 28ish, with the proviso that she stay on, I think for one year. The closest analogy I can come up with is Miss Havisham from Great Expectations. She can't let go, tries to run the show and complains constantly, what we Jews call a "kvetch." I went there and was helped by Dr. Alex Vasserman, who was great; Dr. Roberts was booked, someone had given me his name. When I made an appointment for a cleaning, Barbara said it would be with Dr. Vasserman. The dentist, not a hygienist? I got very sick, IVs with PICC line and had to reschedule the cleaning appointment twice, in advance. I explained my health situation. Recently, when I was feeling up to it, I went there in person to reschedule, in good faith because of the earlier postponements. When I asked if Dr. Vasserman was doing it, she told me he was no longer there. I saw another dentist running around, very young. It is like musical chairs there. I can not comment on Dr. Roberts's work, since he didn't treat me. To be "correct," I didn't follow Dr. Vasserman, now much to my regret. As it turned out, I had to work all night the evening before my 3 pm appointment with a hygienist for a cleaning. I emailed to the office address at 2 a.m. when I saw the writing on the wall so that they would have it the moment they arrived in the office, explained the situation. Let me add, I am 67 and technically an invalid. They have seen me with cane and neck collar, etc. Now maybe near Washington Square they see a lot of young people, I don't know, but I was appalled to get an email from Barbara telling me that "ulimately, this is a business" and that I had cancelled once or twice at the last minute (not true) already, and I should go to another dentist. They tossed me out. Those of us who live with chronic illness can not deal very well with this kind of attitude, which is disgustingly mercenary to begin with. Aren't dentists healers more than businessmen? I have never experienced anything like that in my life. For a flossing session? I remember her telling me they have long waiting lists. I'm sure the slot was filled immediately, and it wasn't even for the dentist. To be honest, he is rather unkempt, and I was a bit uneasy about staying with that office. The only positive is that I am now going to see Dr. Vasserman in his office mid-town. He was so good fixing up the area around a tooth that had been pulled, was a delight to talk to, smart. I can only imagine why he left, but I do not know. Someone should tell Dr. Roberts to tell Barbara to let go, her husband (full of "compassion," according to the website, and "a tradition" they are continuing--don't make me laugh!) is gone. (I"m sorry, but the website has to be seen to be believed: It's full of gorgeous photos of Washington Square, images that have zero to do with what happens when you are inside the office. It's as cheesy as the ambulance chaser attorneys on tv commercials. Show me something about your work!)) She's much more nosy than nice. I wrote the two of them hoping Dr. Roberts had the courage to intervene or apologize, but alas, nothing, so he agrees with this treatment by default at least. I can not imagine his ex-colleague behaving that way. You know right off, this is a man with compassion. The third shock--it shouldn't be, really--is that the first review here, a negative one, had an answer, not from Dr. Roberts but from...you guessed it....Barbara! Especially because the complaint was chiefly about inferior work that was painful and had to be redone, only secondarily about misquoted costs. How can he let her be a spokesman for his "brand?" All that I'm writing here I've already written directly to them. I'm glad that there are sites like Yelp to recommend when appropriate, and to hold workers/professionals accountable when that's called for. read more

Fantastic dentist-- been seeing Dr. Roberts for about three years. Great Saturday hours makes things a lot less stressful. He always makes time for the patients and is always willing to talk about things you should think about five years from now as it regards to your dental health and not just to brush better.and see you in six months. Find a better dentist! Nice enough guy but I had a horrible experience. Dr. Roberts told me it looked like I had the very beginning stages of a cavity forming on my back molar. He said I should make an appointment to get it filled. I followed his instructions. I asked the secretary what the most I would have to pay out of pocket for this filling (even though I had good dental insurance) just to be on the safe side. I was assured that the most I would pay with my dental insurance would be $90. I came back for the second time, had the cavity filled. After the filling was done I was in extreme pain and very uncomfortable. I had to go back for the third time to see if he could figure out the problem and fix it. He couldn't. Had to go back for a fourth time and get the cavity completely re-moved, then refilled, and then was slapped with a bill of over $300 when I was initially told the most out of pocket I would pay would be not be more than $90. I had to spend so much time fixing this problem I expected at least some sort of compensation in regards to my unanticipated high bill. When I brought up the issue that I have been in consistent pain and extremely inconvenienced by the amount of times I had to come back to the office I received the explanation of "Mistakes happen." I am a fair and honest person and this was just completely unacceptable! Find a dentist who will be honest with the costs upfront, who will also do the job correctly the first time around, and who will value your time as much as they value their own. I had been a patient of Dr. Peter Glassman's for over ten years. He was the best dentist I ever had. All of the work I had done by Dr. Glassman was impeccable and pain free - this includes root canals. He was truly a gifted dentist - self-assured, gentle, professional and funny. My family and friends were heartbroken when he dies suddenly of a heart attack. We continued to go to the office because we were loyal to Barbara, the receptionist, who was also Peter's wife. Unfortunately I never had a good experience with Dr. Roberts. I found him to be slow, unsteady , even nervous at times. At one cleaning appointment, they found a small cavity and suggested filling it that day. I agreed. Dr. Roberts gave me a shot of novocaine in my jaw which was incredibly painful. I complained to him about the pain but he assured me it was normal. It didn't feel normal. We waited for several minutes for the novocaine to take effect but it didn't. My jaw ached terribly but the site of the cavity remained un-numb. He gave me another uncomfortable shot of novocaine that did not "hit the spot." I have had many, many cavities filled before both as a kid and well into my adult life. This had never happened to me. At this point, parts of my neck and face felt numb and I felt shaky and quite honestly, not confident that he knew what he was doing. I said I needed to stop and that I didn't want him to fill the cavity. I got up and left. Two days later my jaw still ached. That was the last time Dr. Roberts touched my mouth. I will not go back to this practice. read more
