I had an appointment with here in January but an emergency prevented me from going. I was kind of a mess from the emergency and the woman over the phone could tell when we spoke to cancel my appointment. She asked me what was wrong and I wasn't able to hold in my tears. In our brief moments over the phone, she asked me about my situation and tried to console me and see if she could help- I could tell she cared about my well-being. This practice is by far the best group of professionals I have encountered in the Dental industry since I have been in New York City! From the moment I called for an appointment, I felt cared for. Moreover, this continued when I first entered the office until I left, both times I visited. Dr. Krochak is wonderfully caring, highly professional, and highly skilled. He was able to give me an action plan that provided me immediate relief after over three years of pain and suffering at the hands of NATIONAL DENTAL's doctors Fischler and Ganz, who spent 3 1/2 years, gaslighting me and telling me that there was nothing wrong with their work, and there was something wrong with me! Dr. Krochak and his associate Dr. Komar developed and implemented an affordable plan to help me. They did not throw up their hands, nor did they debate or defend against my complaints. OK, I was telling a friend this story about this doctor the other day since I was negatively affected by my experience here in 2018, both physically (chronic tooth pain that took years to abate but still is there) and emotionally. With it fresh in my mind, I wanted see if this place was still open on Yelp, or if the dentist I saw was still employed there. I cannot believe it is still around, and getting great reviews. Emotionally? Yes. I highly recommend you google Dr. Michael Krochak's legal history. Unwittingly, I went to this office days after he was arrested for sexual assault in the very office you are reading about here. This caused me health anxiety for years afterwards. You don't want to think of this kind of thing happening in a DENTIST'S OFFICE. It's disgusting. After finding it out, I sent an emailed complaint to the American Dental Association. They didn't respond. And let's talk about why I was even there. I had been back multiple times for tooth pain caused by this doctor. I read user James Y's experience (see his review 11/26/2022) and I had the EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE. In the "not recommended" reviews, I saw someone else had the same thing happen. I couldn't believe it! After years of my previous dentist (she had retired, and I went to Smile Spa on a friend's recommendation) not finding any problems with my teeth, and having no pain, Dr. Krochak somehow found several cavities. He filled them, and as a result I had to go back FOUR TIMES because I had nerve pain on the entire right upper side around the filling. 4+ years later it's finally improved but still there. Edit: I find it odd there are mostly glowing reviews here. This isn't an allegation. I actually avoided writing this review for years because it was upsetting, and I want to be accurate because it's someone life and reputation at stake. But there was coverage across every major news outlet of this dentist's assault and guilty plea, but somehow no mention in the Yelp reviews? It was completely traumatic (not an understatement) to me as a patient to go there days after this event and then find out afterwards what happened. Obviously, the doctor didn't mention it. I'm taking a screen shot of this review in the hope it isn't put in "not recommended." Yelp, do your readers a service and let them remain aware of dentists who should not be practicing. read more

I came to Dr. Krochak by the recommendation of a friend. This ended up being the biggest regret of my life. I started out with regular teeth cleanings and Dr. Krochak charmed me with his tall build and charismatic smile. I started trusting him with my dental health without a doubt. Then Dr. Krochak told me that four of my teeth needed filling. I was hesitant, and asked if there are any potential side effects, and asked that he tell me any possibility no matter how small. Dr. Krochak promised "not with my fillings", and so I agreed to proceed. A few days and four fillings later, I started feeling pain whenever I chewed on my left side. It progressed into pain whenever I ate or drank anything cold or hot. I came back to Dr. Krochak twice to have it looked at. He suspected that one of the fillings pressured my nerve, but never offered to do another X-ray to check. He added more filling in the hope that it'd create more buffer for my nerve - it didn't work. So I lived with the painful chewing experience through COVID, thinking maybe this is it - maybe this pain will be with me for the rest of my life. Fortunately, I moved and found another dentist in 2022, who quickly identified that my nerve was indeed pressured, but the thickness of filling actually hurt my teeth more. My new dentist removed some of my filling and I'm now a lot happier. Oh New York, you're full of wonders but also sometimes full of shucks. Once in a while you find a dentist full of honor and glamorous Yelp reviews, but if you trust them with your teeth you'd be in your most terrible nightmare for the years to come. read more

Best cleaning I've ever had! Rose really gets those stains off your teeth and gets you excited about it! Usually I'm not excited to get my teeth cleaned but I already made my follow up! Dr Perlman is also very welcoming and really took the time to get to know me as a person and provided me with lots of knowledge. I'm looking forward to working with him on my treatment plan! This was the absolute WORST experience I've ever had at a dental office. It was awful from start to finish and I didn't even let them complete the visit because IT WAS JUST SO BAD! First red flag: the texting system. I reached out via text and had to follow up with them twice about booking an appointment, only to be directed to call the office. What's the point of a texting system if youre directed to just call? I spoke with someone over the phone and booked the appointment. When you call a business and they confirm that your appointment is booked, one would believe they have it reserved. Am I right? Olga proceeds to tell me to send over the front and back of the insurance card and fill out some forms online. We had an entire thread of back and forth via email. I explain to her in email that the website is giving me an error message and not letting me complete the forms. Melissa responded and said "I'll forward this issue to IT and get back to you when I hear back." ...I guess she never heard back because neither did I. I take off time from work to get to this appointment today. It's not easy for me to find a couple hours in the middle of the day to visit the dentist. I was looking forward to possibly finding a dental home that I love and look forward to coming to. Boy was this the complete opposite. I arrive to my 11:30am appointment at 11:18. The door is locked and when Olga (the person who initially asked me for my insurance information via email) opens the door, she doesn't even greet me. She says "Are you vaccinated? Have you been in contact with anyone infected, etc.) I just thought I was a peculiar way to greet someone visiting this business for the first time. 'Hi' would've been great. Upon entry she asks me to spell my name 3 times. I ask her if she's not locating the appointment. She asks me for my email, she asks me for my phone number. At this point I'm certain there was some mixup where the appointment wasn't there or something. The first time she said, "oh you don't have an appointment on the calendar, did you get a confirmation call?". I explained that I spoke with someone over the phone and that's why you guys have my insurance information. The whole encounter was so beyond disappointing. She asked me when I booked the appointment, I had to check my call log for the exact date and time as if I was lying about booking an appointment!Strange. Then she says "long story short, fill out these forms". Then she says, your appointment was at 11 and you're late but we will still take the x-rays for you. At this point I'm thinking these people are a whole entire mess. I still give it a try bc I took time to get this done, so let me just go through with it. As I'm filling our forms, she says "most importantly we have your insurance information and it's all fine." Well, yes, Olga, we confirmed that in our email exchange. I go back to the chair then after setting up they decided to move me to a different space. The tech taking the X-rays apologized. I was thinking - this must be everybody here's first day. The level of unprofessionalism and lack of customer care was blowing my mind! The X-rays took 30 minutes and by far the most uncomfortable X-rays I've ever had taken. She was struggling with the tools and kind of fumbling with the equipment. She was nice but felt inexperienced. Once the X-rays were done, the dentist walks in and he's like, "What's up?". I guess thats a step up from 'Are you vaccinated'. But Mr. Bastilla said, there was a mixup, so we will have to split your appointment. We will do the X-rays today and the rest later". At that point after all this, I was soooo over it, I politely declined going forward with the appointment. It was THAT bad. Bastilla said, "Well, you would've had to come back for additional work if you needed it anyway..." which is true, but I took time off work for X-ray cleaning, it shouldn't take me two visits for a cleaning! I said to him, "im just really unhappy about this whole experience and want to just cancel." He very smuggly responds "Ok." Then just leaves the room. No apology, no trying to understand why they were wasting my time from the receptionists dropping the ball. I was floored. Thennnn a doctor (patient) comes in after me and everyone if so overjoyed to see him and being so nice and gracious. Me as a black woman getting treated like shit seconds ago, then when doctor whatever-his-name-is walks in, everyone is licking his boots. Insult to injury. I can go on about how the receptionists were rude, curt and no basic understabding of customer service were displayed. But just take my word for it. Avoid this place at all costs! Don't waste your time at this bougie basic establishment; unless you're a doctor of course. read more

I've been going to NYC Smile Spa for a few years now and I can honestly say that they're my favorite dental office. Now I must say that I'm among the few who loves to go to the dentist. Reason being that it's the one doctors office you go to where your issue is remedied right then and there (for the most part). Given this love affair with dental offices, I have been to many and know the difference between the bad and the good. Dr. Krochak is the BEST and knows what he's doing. He takes the necessary time, care and attention to suit your dental needs. The staff is lovely and they truly schedule/see you on time (EVERY TIME). That's amazing to me! Along with the fact that the dental assistants are knowledgeable and Dr. Krochak really cares about teaching the future generation. From the tasty sugar free candy and beverages, to the massaging dental chair to the most amazingly cute and tiny chapsticks given for free...it's like a spa for your teeth and a place to relax. I'm not sure if I'm the norm or not, but I've had a fear of going to the dentist my whole life. I've gone through stints of not going to a dentist for up to 5 years because I was so scared and traumatized by very bad and extremely rough dentists in the past. Needless to say I was also nervous coming to see Dr. Krochak. I was referred to him by a co-worker after I explained to her my fear and how I had not seen a dentist in about 2 years because my last one was extremely rough on my teeth, even for a cleaning. After I told her about my experience she told me to go see Dr. Krochak because he's different, he listens to his patients when they're feeling discomfort and does his best to cause as little discomfort as possible. I've heard this before so I was pessimistic but knew I needed to give it a shot because I needed a cleaning. I was nervous as can be when I sat down in the chair just for a cleaning, but I knew I hadn't really flossed nor had a been to a dentist in 2 years so I knew it was going to be bad. He came in, introduced himself, examined me and then the dental hygienist went to work. Here's where things took a turn, it wasn't bad. I mean sure my teeth needed to be cleaned, but the care and attention they took while doing it was something I had never experience before. Anytime they thought I had some discomfort they'd pause, ask me if I was OK and they'd continue. I left and thought, wow that was not as awful as I thought but I had to come back 3 months later for a follow up. So I immediately thought, great, I got the great first impression and but they can't continue to maintain this type of white glove service the next time. I was wrong, they did maintain that same type of service. Although my fears of going to any ol dentist are still there, those fears are not there when now visit Dr. Krochak and his team. They've taken such great care of me, to the point I even had a procedure on my gums that I walked into not being as fearful as I thought. Dr. Krochak has transformed my mouth. My regular dentist says it's one of the most impressive transformations she has ever seen. I had many issues when I first went to him. I had two crooked teeth at the front, I had an impressive over bite and I had many extra adult teeth which had caused extra decay over the years. NYC smile spa seriously had their work cut out. I would say, it rarely goes a few days without someone telling me my teeth look really good. The Invisalign treatment was a breeze. You really don't know they are in your mouth most of the time. I went to see Dr. Krochak every 6 weeks to check on the progress. Everything went smoothly. He is a perfectionist so he did change the trays closer to the end to lessen the over bite. The place and people who work here are great. Very kind and accommodating. My only negative is with Doctor Kenyon. He can come off rude and not a good choice for someone who is already nervous at dentists. He has started drilling on a cavity before it was totally numb and when I went back for a different filling and was wary about being totally numb and asked if it was, he just put the drill in and said "well we will find out". Again not a good choice for someone with any anxiety towards dentists. I usually get the "laughing gas" for fillings and work. I walked in with slight pain, they found the cavity and filled it pdq. No pain during or after the procedure. No numbness as soon as I left the office.
