Called to schedule a chimney inspection during the winter months. Had to wait for an appointment,…read morebut it was worth the wait. Jonathan thoroughly inspected and cleaned our fireplace chimney, he even got onto our roof to look from the outside! We will be doing some repair work and will contract Blue Ridge to do the work. Jonathan was very honest regarding the scope of work that needs done and the cost of service has been very reasonable. Not only do I recommend this company because they are a small business, I recommend them because they are an excellent company and a pleasure to do business with.

The work was necessary because of the shoddy and, frankly, dangerous installation and chimney work that had been done by 1Elite Chimney LLC, a local chimney service that sold us the unit and was completely unresponsive to our repeated calls for follow-up service because they did not complete the job, the stove was not working properly and the chimney cap they had installed blew off our roof during a minor windstorm. We decided to go with Blue Ridge Chimney after a confidence-inspiring visit by Steven Slabaugh, the technician they sent at our request to evaluate the situation. On the morning of June 29, 2020, two young men from Blue Ridge Chimney, Chris Guy Jr. and Chris Smith, drove here from Harrisonburg and arrived a little after 9 am. After a quick review of our situation, they went to work. They were here until after 8 pm, working the entire time with only a short break for lunch. Their concern for our situation was evident, as was their professionalism, energy and competence. They were also friendly and engaging, and at each stage of the process they explained the problems and the work that needed to be done to fix them. I waited 9 months to write this review because the work was done in June 2020, and we did not begin using the stove and chimney until November 2020. We used it consistently until last week (March 12). The heating season is over now and the insert worked perfectly. We are very happy in general with all the dealings we have had with Blue Ridge Chimney Services, and in particular with the competent work of Chris Guy Jr. and Chris Smith. We intend to use Blue Ridge Chimney for all our future stove and chimney related work.

American Home Shield Home Warranty assigned Blue Ridge Mountain Plumbing to repair a faucet in my…read morehouse. When the plumbers showed up they diagnosed the problem, and told me the faucet needed a trim kit replaced. Normally a $300 fee. But the plumbers told American Home Shield that they could not diagnose the problem. So American Home Shield denied the claim. How can you diagnose the problem, and not be able to diagnose the problem, at the same time? I called Blue Ridge Mountain Plumbing several times asking them to fix the error. They would not help me. American Home Shield tried to call them multiple times, but they would not answer the phone or return calls. So I initiated a 3-way call with American Home Shield and Blue Ridge Mointain Plumbing. As soon as the Plumbing company associate realized American Home Shield was also on the call... CLICK... they hung up. That's interesting... Why did the plumbing company refuse to tell the warranty company about their error? Why would they refuse to even talk to them? Why wouldn't they talk to me? HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. JERKS. If you don't want to do contract work for home warranty companies, then get off of their list of contractors. Finally last week a friend of mine looked at my faucet, went to Lowe's, bought a $12 handle, installed it in five minutes, and now it works great! No trim kit needed after all. It makes me sick when contractors take advantage of home owners' lack of knowledge and try to screw them over. Disgusting.

I saw Victor S' review too late after I had begun service for a water heater installation via American Home Shield (a great home warranty service btw that has paid for itself). Because of my own initial experience, I was prepared to put BRMP on blast. Our first visit was great with Daniel. The dispatching and scheduling had a few hiccups, but he came out and was informative, honest and to the point. Afterwards we were looking forward to replacing our badly leaking water heater. There were multiple scheduling and lack of communication errors (i.e. couldn't reach anyone on the phone numbers listed for confirmations or anything else). We had two weekends and plans blown because of this. When we finally got to the weekend of installation, it was a rough day...for everyone. The techs were very nice, but the day was anything but smooth. I was assured of an 8:00 AM start time to make up for the missed other weekend; this one didn't start until 10:30 AM. My wife's day planned agenda shot to hell. The old original State water heater, through no fault of the techs, did not want to go quietly. Plumbing comes with it's own adversities and quality is in the plumber(s) that are patient and skilled enough to handle the troubleshooting and work around. The water heater was full of sediment that would not allow drainage and thus the lightening of an 800 lbs gorilla. The two techs, through creativity, got the thing out and eventually got the new one installed. Throughout the installation things just never synced up, including: one tech needing to leave mid-install, another not turning the breaker back on to charge the unit and heat the water upon leaving. It can happen, no worries. I remembered and tripped the thing back on myself. There was hot water and we're all happy. Three days later, lukewarm water for my shower before work. Leaks from the top of the unit and water temp way below 100 degrees. We first notified AHS, then placed numerous calls to the numbers we had for the plumbers. Nothing, nada, no contact. My wife googled them and found another number...we got someone named James to confirm an appointment was actually made (late morning); to arrive within an hour. Mind you, I called AHS at 8:30 AM. Our appointment was not kept until late afternoon and...they were sending an "apprentice". *sigh* I must now say that this "apprentice" dispelled all of my apprehensions and frustrations. Scott attacked the problems straight way. He was methodical and objective in troubleshooting, diagnosing and then developing a solution for all that was ailing this new water heater. Our unit consisted of a Bradford White Electric Water Heater with water pan, a Booster and Expansion Tank to make sure everything was up to code. What he found was some mechanical installation faults and then some internal heating element problems which are still a mystery (copper screw type immersion element had over heated and warped). His dedication to fixing the problem was admirable. Scott said he will remain there through the evening until the problems are fixed properly and to our satisfaction. He was good to his word. He had to leave, to obtain a tool but had a very timely return despite terrible weather. My wife said he was very polite; since my visit began before I arrived home from work. He kept me informed via phone what he was discovering with the faulty unit. Gabriel (a tech from the initial install) also returned to assist. Both worked to bring that unit back to efficient working order; making sure to take the time to answer my many questions as to what happened, why, expectations in performance and assurance it won't fail again and proper contact information to reach them in the future should something arise. I can say, honor was restored and I would work with them again. If an organization works hard to fix it's mistakes to preserve their name and reputation with action then bravo and kudos where they are due. Scott really did an awesome job and my wife and I are appreciative. Thank you Blue Ridge Mountain Plumbing...but please, work on those phone lines. ;) - Edward & Porscha Simmons

Wooden Sun cleaned electrical junction switches, including wall switch and told me the fireplace was igniting consistently. Was told that further problems might indicate a failing valve...whatever that is. Wooden Sun told me the den fireplace was not generating sufficient millivoltage to light the burner. They cleaned this one too, but said the mill voltage was still low and would recommend replacing the pilot assembly as first step and to replace valve as suggested for living room fireplace. I agreed to replacing pilot light assemblies for both fireplaces. But was told they didn't have parts with them in their truck and would have to return. The service call fee was $165 and Wooden Sun advised me that second service call to bring parts they didn't have with them would be an additional $165 service call fee. I objected to paying for two service fees. I was to that pilot light assembly cost would be $400 each plus service fee of $165 plus labor. The afternoon of their service call both fireplaces stopped working and would not ignite after repeated attempts. I called Tiger Fuel after Wooden Sun would not return to correct their failure to perform and service for my two fireplaces. Tiger fuel replaced pilot light assemblies in both fireplaces for under $200 each, and the fireplaces have ignited consistently since without issue. I would not recommend Wooden Sun as a service repair for gas fireplaces.
