Crate Escape is the best!! We had been thinking about putting our 8 month old boxer pup in daycare for a few months to help him get out some of his limitless energy. Crate escape opened and we headed over for a temperament meeting, which is a great feature of the facility. They make sure every dog there is social and friendly so that I don't have to worry about my buddy getting bullied! Jenny and Alex are super friendly and great with dogs. The first day we picked him up he slept for 14 hours, after hearing that he didn't stop playing and running all day. Can't wait to take him back!! read more

Review is for grooming services. Terrible cut (way too short and did not listen) and keeps your dog in a crate the entire time (it was 7 hrs 30 mins for our dog). I would NOT recommend for grooming services. Grooming - this is our third visit. The first two times was good as they would call us if they had to cut out a matted area (even though he came out with a lob sided eye lash). This time they completely shaved our doodle even though we provided the same instructions as the first two times. Crating - as other reviewers mentioned, they keep your dog in a crate the ENTIRE time. We asked the receptionist and confirmed. They keep your dog on a sewage 5 - 7 hours as they cram in grooming services and gets backed up. We dropped him off at 9:30am and we didn't get a call for pick up till 4:40pm. My poor dog was mortified and peed a gallon once we let him out. I thought he just didn't like being groomed, but my dog is much happier when we visited another groomer. read more

My dog loves this place. The employees are very nice and caring. I use the facility in Charlestown, can't comment on the other locations. But this one is a winner. They are very clear about instructions. Stay open even on the snowiest days (though they may open later etc., for everyone's safety - no argument there). They do book up so you need to make your reservation. read more

We have brought our dog here for several months. Every time I have picked him up he's beyond tired and sometimes that's all I need is a tired dog after a long days work. Every time I have picked him up I have asked how he's done and I receive good-neutral feedback on his behavior. Unfortunately, were notified to pick our dog up and that he was permanently kicked out. I was upset and shocked and was informed that "this is just not the right environment for him". I asked if he had bit another dog, the response was "no, but there was a scuffle and it's probably too intense of an environment for him". I recently spoke to my trainer to advise on the situation. He said dogs typically don't get kicked out on a one and done situation unless he's gone after another dog, he mentioned I should push Crate Escape for more information. I called today and asked for more information. In the notes I was advised that my dog was in 5 different fights. One of which a dog was sent to Blue Pearl for the incident. How was I NOT notified for this? That's a huge deal! If I knew my dog got in ONE incident I would NOT have brought him back here (for the safety of him and other dogs).They told me they have emailed/called me on all incidents and can assure you this is just not true. If I knew my dog bit another dog I would have wanted to contact the other owners to see if there was anything I could have done (pay vet bill etc). We drop our dogs off here hoping and thinking they are under good care and watch. We pay good money to receive the service we pay for. The fact that there was ZERO communication with my dog is not only harmful to my own dog but it's putting everyone else's dog in harm. I sometimes wonder if the lack of communication on this stuff is intended so we all believe Crate Escape to be a safe haven and to keep the bad rumor mill at bay. read more

We are new to Crate Escape and Suite Escape and so far they have been amazing! I had been looking for a reputable, clean, safe daycare for my 10 month goldendoodle for quite some time. After touring several facilities and finding them to be far from acceptable, along comes crate escape/suite escape. The staff at these facilities (especially Kate & Leann!) truly love animals and love what they do. I have 100% confidence that my pup will be taken care of and given lots of love. My pup goes into full bum-wiggle mode at drop-off and can't wait to get inside to play! Additionally, the prices are affordable, they send email updates to nervous dog moms like myself during the day and suite escape offers special add-on's to make your pups stay more comfortable. This place is great! We have a 5-month-old​ Goldendoodle​ who we would intitially crate him at home and schedule dog walks throughout the day but we realized it was not allowing him to get enough exercise so we checked out this place. The place is nice and clean, the staff is​ very friendly. I love how convenient it is to bring him in and drop him off. They also offer van service which must be scheduled ahead​ of time. The driver is awesome, very friendly. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a place for their pup to get some interaction and exercise. We love Crate Escape Charlestown. Our Corgi has been going there since he was a puppy. The staff is very friendly, energetic and knowledgeable. You can really tell that they care about each dog and they get excited when our guy shows up. Alex always has a smile on her face and we completely trust her and her staff with our short-legged friend. The facility is clean, well-maintained and a perfect space for a doggie daycare. It's a little hard to find at first, but really easy once you know where it is. I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. read more

Crate Escape is AMAZING! I can't being to explain how much I love it here. The staff is outstanding. Any time I've had a question, they get back to me RIGHT away. In times when I've needed last minute help, they have swooped in to the rescue and have gone out of their way to provide exceptional customer service. We love Crate Escape! We've been using them for the past year, and our dog goes there every day including van pick-up. The van pick-up is the absolute best and we love our driver - so caring and considerate! Our dog also gets washed and groomed there once a month which has been awesome and convenient. We are lucky to board with Crate Escape as well which is seemless and makes us feel less guilty for having to leave her behind. Our only one minor criticism is that we'd love to see what Maddie's up to more during the day and haven't really been sent any photos or updates in all of our days with her at daycare. Would be tremendous to have a dog cam available, some more photos or stories sent our way, etc. But overall we think Crate Escape is a life saver and whole heartedly recommend to anyone!! Not sure what changed here but for a year or longer, we were able to drop our dog off for grooming as early as 7:30/8 am, even though he wasn't ever a day care dog. We would be able to pick him up as soon as he was done. Also we were told he wouldn't be in a holding crate, but that he'd be generally free to roam around the grooming pen. Great! Right? Well... Recently, I've called twice and there's no clear answer other than that non-daycare dogs can't be dropped off before 9 am, and that he wouldn't be able to roam but he'd be in a crate? And after inquiring about paying extra for daycare, I was told that's an application process and he'd have to be evaluated first. But the receptionists have given no explanation about a been a policy change, even though the process is now completely different for us and we now have to find a new grooming spot, or make an appointment to bring our dog in for daycare evaluation between 11-12 pm on a weekday? They know most people work right? What changed? This was a great spot as we live in Cambridge and the groomer did a great jobs. I recently find myself wondering if they never let him roam in the first place and stuck him in a pen. He's a 70lb golden! It's not the $ per day, we would definitely pay a premium to make sure he's well taken care of, but I've lost a little trust in this place. read more

We recently moved away and miss Crate Escape in Charlestown. They have some amazing people there who gave our pup so much love. We had our dog go there usually 1-2 times a week for daycare. She always came home tired and happy. She truly loved going there each time and just doesn't pull with excitement to her new doggy daycare like she did to Crate. While my shoulder is grateful, I wish we could find a place like Crate Escape again. Alex even wrote us a recommendation letter on a very short notice for a condo association. Our puppy absolutely loves it at Crate Escape. Whenever we pull up in the morning, she is almost running to get into the door. She sees the girls behind the desk and she goes into super butt wiggle mode. It almost makes me upset that she is so amped to get into the place to play with the other dogs, she never even looks back at me when she is heading in to the play area. The staff is amazing, with a friendly greeting right when you walk in and a genuine love for the dogs whenever they see them. They are always very happy to see our puppy and are always informative about how the day went for our little lady when we pick her up. If you are looking for a place that will care for your dog the same way you do, you can not go wrong with the crew down at Crate Escape, just be ready to pick up a tired and happy puppy at the end of the day, and make sure you tell your dog when they can go back, because I can attest that it will be a very happy place for them. read more

When I took our rescued Cattle dog mix to Crate Escape in Charlestown for the first time it was after already spending about an hour on the phone with Alex, the manager. Our dog is fearful of strangers and reactive. Everyone thinks they're good with dogs, but I can barely count the number of vets, strangers, dogwalkers, who refused to listen to what we know our dog needs: a slow introduction, appropriate body language, and only gradually initiating frontal eye contact -- and instead end up triggering another reactive episode. Alex listened to our dog's history, to what we needed from them in terms of body language and time, and we came up with a plan on how to slowly introduce her to Crate Escape. When I got there, the entire staff had been informed of the right procedure with our dog, and Alex took at least 30 minutes of her time to slowly introduce herself. They thought through how all their procedures would interact with our dog's triggers and modified them when necessary. But more than that, it was obvious that Alex and her staff really wanted to help our fearful, panicky dog. The result was more than I could have hoped for. In no time at all, my dog became completely comfortable with the entire staff. She's excited and happy whenever we go. It melts my heart to see her wagging her tail at the sight of their staff. And I can tell that they are genuinely (and rightfully) proud at what they've accomplished with her. What I tell all my friends with dogs is that Crate Escape is Boston's premier dog daycare. You'd be hard pressed to find a better place for your dog in any city. The establishment itself is a great, clean, safe environment that allows dogs to constantly play and get out all of their energy. You can really, really trust the staff. They are extremely professional, passionate about what they do, and they really know how to work with dogs. What I tell anyone with a fearful/reactive/shy dog is that they won't find any other professional, let alone daycare, with the same level of skill, patience, and devotion to helping your dog. read more

I highly recommend Crate Escape! When we moved here 6 months ago, finding a doggy daycare was at the top of my list of things to do! Our boxer, Lola, is like our child and I am very protective. I wanted somewhere clean, safe, and fun for her! When I toured Crate Escape I got a great feeling from the staff and the overall facility. They took the time to answer all my questions and put me at ease when I was nervous about Lola's interview (with the other pups). Since then, she has attended daycare multiple times and had her first slumber party last weekend! They even sent me pictures of her to help me know she was safe while I was away. The email communication is so helpful in making daycare/boarding reservations while at work. I also appreciate the puppy van pickup option when I don't have time to run Lola over there. We love Crate Escape! We tried taking our dogs (Cooper and Harper) to three different doggy daycares (and had the WORST luck) before finally meeting Crate Escape at SOWA last summer and we havent been anywhere else since. The staff is helpful and super friendly, they can usually take the dogs on very short notice. Our dogs get very excited when I pull into the lot and are always pooped and happy when I pick them up at the end of the day. Their prices are very reasonable/competitive and as a bonus they offer grooming a few days a week. We would definitely recommend Crate Escape Charlestown! read more

6 months ago I adopted a 6-month old puppy whose parents were rescues from Afghanistan. I volunteer for a group, Puppy Rescue Mission, who have been saving puppies for soldiers (their slogan is Soldiers Saving Puppies, Puppies Saving Soldiers). This non-profit group has transported over 500 dogs and cats that have bonded with soldiers who are so far away from home and family back to them at now cost to the soldier. I was asked to adopt a 6 month old Kuchi (similar to a Anatolian Shephard). She definitely had issues, 5 homes in 6 months, abused by two vets. She had severe fear aggression. I tried several dog trainers, but none were helpful. These Kuchis bark a lot, dig a lot, chew a lot, can be aggressive considering what the breed has gone through in the Afghani war zone.. I went to Crate Escape in Charlestown and explained her background. Alex and Danielle were absolutely fabulous. After evaluating her, they told me she should come early, before the rest of the dogs arrived. She now goes 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. There is no aggression, she has been socialized better than I could have hoped. She is exhausted when she comes home, which is awesome, since she has stopped digging the pine hard wood floods, chewing on antique table legs. I am so excited that I found Crate Escape. I am so excited that Crate Escspe has the best staff ever. I wish my pup like me as much as she doe Danielle, Alex, Kate, Paul and the rest of the staff. This place is awesome! read more

I can't say enough good things about Alex and her team at Crate Escape Charlestown. Our boxer mix puppy, Scarlett, loves going there and is just the right amount of tired when she gets home. They are super responsive by phone and email and its so nice to have answers to questions back right away. Pick up and drop off are super seamless! i used to go to the Belmont Crate Escape with a previous dog well before this site opened. I popped into this place for a look around for daycare for my little one since my dog walker is very pregnant and had to stop her regular routine. I didn't want to get a big sales pitch since I was on my lunch hour and just wanted to check it out. First off, it smelled like dog waste, and there were several poop piles on the floor plus I counted 4 large yellow urine puddles There was a girl walking around in the area with the dogs talking to someone and not paying any attention to the dogs. One of the dogs started eating poop and I let out a whoop and she turned and ran over to stop that from getting any worse. It's a warehouse building by the bridge and just seemed like it was somewhat dark and I didn't get a good vibe. To be fair, maybe I caught them at a bad time, but I didn't see anything in my 10 minute visit that would make me want to bring my dog there for any reason. I'll admit the poop eating freaked me out, but if that girl had been paying attention it wouldn't have happened. I guess I'm going to keep looking for a better day care or dog walking option. I left feeling bad for the poor dogs who were stuck in there all day. Trying to find a dog walker willing to take on new dogs in the dead of winter is almost impossible. read more

We love it here! All the staff are so accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable. We send our 2 dogs to daycare here every week and they get so excited to go and come home exhausted. I took my dog for a bath and asked that the groomer focus on removing his undercoat for the summer, with just a clean-up haircut. After three hours, I picked him up. She did an OK but somewhat lazy job. His undercoat was not totally brushed out, and his haircut was uneven in a lot of places. Other than the nail-trimming, which I am terrible at, I feel like she did only a slightly better job of grooming him than I could have done, myself (and in less than three hours). read more

Knowing that Sam gets to run and romp with her pals for four hours a day in a safe environment (indoors and....outdoors too) while I am at work, eases my mind and is worth every penny. She looks out the window each morning, waiting for the van to pick her up and goes bonkers with excitement, wiggle butt and all, when they pull up.
