This is a little local gem downtown with delicious food. They make efforts to keep the tables moving so you don't have to wait too long. My husband and I ordered a waffle to share and then two different egg dishes. The waffle took a really long time to come out - almost 40 minutes. We were really hungry and after waiting for a table, waiting for the waffle was rough - especially when I could see into the kitchen where staff members were eating and snacking away. In general the service was slow and not super warm, so that was the low point of our visit. The inside is cute and comfortable with funny signs ("you don't have to be crazy to work here, we'll train you") and even a little TV perhaps to show a game or news (nice kind of laid back diner vibe). Food specifics: - waffle with strawberries: disappointing! the one waffle had a really claggy texture. wish it had been more light and a little crispy on the outside. came with a mix of fresh and sauced strawberries. for $11 and the long wait, it didn't feel like a good deal. - fish cake eggs benedict: WOW. this completely blew me away. the homemade fish cakes were soooo light and delicate. not a super fishy flavor - just fresh and yummy. the eggs were also poached to perfection - cooked whites with a runny yolk. the potatoes were nice and soft with good seasoning. - scrambled eggs with toast, home fries, and crab cakes (special): again, the seafood cakes took the cake! fresh crab with a surprising and delicious mix of green pepper and some kind of chipotle/smoky spicing? the toast was hearty as well. In general, I'd love to come back and eat more of their delicious food. If I lived nearby I'd come often enough for the staff to know me so they would be more attentive :)

Food and service was great! Place was full of regulars. As an out of town visitor, I enjoy eating at the favorite place for locals. We were there at opening, got to talk to a guy who has been going there almost everyday for 20 years. Server had his table set with drinks before opening the door for the day. My kids had pancakes, biscuits and gravy all very good. Myself and my spouse had the crab cake special and it was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had.

There is a reason why this place has a ton of high reviews. It's a small establishment in town off the main road. You walk in and are greeted by local pictures and decorations. Love the hat holders! (See picture) What I am assuming is one of the owners was telling my cousin and I about how for halloween she wants do decorate as if they were climbing out of spider webs. All the tables were full but a local gentleman was kind enough to move to another table with another local gentleman to free up the table for us. The food came out quick and words cannot honestly describe how wonderful of a bite the first bite was with mine. I went with the raspberry stuffed french toast and the filling is out of this world! The homemade Portuguese bread is a perfect cut and equally as good as the filling if not better. Cousin ordered the Irish Eggs Benedict which I never have had before, had a small bite and would definitely give a try for a meal in the future. As for the portion size it was just the right amount. And with how quick the food came out I can imagine the table turnover is not that long unless you get lingering parties. I am sure this town is full of good local spots judging by today's experience. If you are new to town or just driving through and looking for a quick bite, take my word for it and make this your first stop.

This was a great find! Extensive menu, excellent food served piping hot! They make all of their own breads. Casual atmosphere. Staff was so welcoming and warm; gave us great suggestions about what to do and see in Gloucester in addition to delicious breakfast! Highly recommend!

This small coffee shop is a gem in the community of Gloucester! The owner is a fabulous hostess. She offered our grandson toys to occupy his time. The menu is extensive with many combinations of 11 homemade bread varieties and the most delicious and light and fluffy pancakes. The menu was such that you wanted to try 1 of everything! We have made this our breakfast strip before visiting Gloucester or sailing on the 7 Seas Whale watch boat.

This is the quintessential local greasy spoon diner and I couldn't be more complimentary about that statement. Sit at the counter, mull over the menu with a fresh cup, and watch the day go by from the window. I love that the kitchen and dining room are staffed by the two sisters. This is the kind of place that the patrons and staff are on first name basis. Sure, you'll get visitors like me but this place is mostly locals. My favorite quirk is the Portuguese sausage - linguica; all the way in Gloucester? Count me in. Is every dish executed perfectly? Certainly not. But you can taste the love and care in every dish. read more

What a treat in the heart of coastal Gloucester! Two Sisters is a quaint, small diner right near the water, a prime location for anyone wishing for that small beach town feel. The wait staff makes every customer feel like they're a close friend, and the food was absolutely do die for. I got a simple serving of toast, eggs, potatoes and bacon, and it was some of the best I've ever had. I can't wait to come back when I visit next time! read more

We loved this diner! It was simple, the food was delicious, and the service was great! Our kiddo and my husband got the EBC bagel melt, and it was delicious. You could tell the bagel wasn't a store bought/commercial bagel; it was homemade! HUGE bagel/sandwich, and plenty of bacon! Hit the spot! I got the schooner omelette, and again, nice and simple but filling and delicious. I really liked their potatoes! I think they're home fries, but they're more like perfectly seasoned griddle potatoes, and I could have eaten those all day! Top of it with a nice cup of coffee, and I can see why there were so many regulars there! All of their bread is homemade, so it is definitely worth trying a few different ones! Plenty of options for breakfast! Definitely would go back! read more

Food and service was great! Place was full of regulars. As an out of town visitor, I enjoy eating at the favorite place for locals. We were there at opening, got to talk to a guy who has been going there almost everyday for 20 years. Server had his table set with drinks before opening the door for the day. My kids had pancakes, biscuits and gravy all very good. Myself and my spouse had the crab cake special and it was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. read more

This was an unexpected and warm local place that made great breakfasts with strong authentic flavors and a friendly ambience. The corned beef hash was a knock out and the egg breakfasts with linguica sausages was like my Grandmother's. The local customers treated us like long lost cousins, which we might actually be since both my father's Irish family and my mother's from the Azores all came from here to California way over a hundred years ago. read more

Food was amazing!! Boyfriend had the crab cakes Benedict with spicy hollandaise, he legitimately cleared his plate. I had the peach cobbler French toast, while I tried to clear mine, alas I failed because of the generous portion! Service was prompt and friendly, small local joint, so you might be waiting a few minutes to get a seat, but it is well worth it! read more

Doesn't look like much and given the 4.5 star Yelp average, I was surprised there was no line at about 10 a.m. on a July Saturday. Antyime I am in New England, I go with corned beef hash- in this case the Irish Benedict. La Portena plumped for the fish cakes and eggs, substituting tomatoes for the potatoes. The Irish Benedict was about as good as the dish can be - the eggs perfectly cooked, the corned beef seemed home made, the potatoes crisp outside, creamy in the middle. The home made bread tasted like one I used to make from a Bob's Red Mill recipe, just a little bit sweet. La Portena was pretty enthusiastic about her plate as well, although she would later claim the fish cakes at Atlantis Oceanfront were better. She did rave about the taste of the tomatoes - ingredient quality is high at the Sisters. An iced coffee was the only item that did not impress. Service was very good, and breakfasts arrived on time. You can tell they really care about their product. read more

Walked into a basically empty restaurant an hour and a half before closing. The room is very crowded with large tables. The woman behind the counter had her back to us so we said hello. She continued to ignore us so we tentatively took an empty table. Meanwhile, a single woman walked in and began to sit down at another (empty) table, only to be told by the woman that she had to sit at the counter- that that was her rule. Talk about being rude and unwelcoming. She still hadn't acknowledged us. We got up and left for friendlier pastures. read more

My daughter and I stopped by and got a iced Vanilla Latte. It took the young lady less than 2 minutes to prepare and was grossly sweet. very little ice and no taste of actual coffee. Very disappointing for spending almost $6 on a cup of coffee. The wasn't the first time we've had a poor experience and really want to support local business but this will be the last. My husband and myself went to Gloucester for our anniversary and found Two Sisters Coffee Shop. It is such a quaint place. They have great food and were so helpful in telling us what was going on in Gloucester. The owner is so friendly and gave me some of her pistachio bread to try with my breakfast. It was amazing and when I asked if she sold it by the loaf she came out and handed me a small loaf to go home with and said Happy Anniversary. Hands down the best place to get breakfast read more

Two Sisters is a Gloucester CLASSIC and one of my family's all time favorites. -Cozy and welcoming -Amazing homemade breads (try the Anadama!) -Linguica sausage -All of the breakfast staples you'd ever want and need New owners are wonderful, but also a shoutout to Patty and her Micky Mouse pancakes from back in the day. I've been going for as long as I can remember and will keep coming back for years to come. read more

Stopped in on Sunday morning for some takeout breakfast sandwiches. Interior is small but cozy. The owners/staff super friendly - they ended up showing us some dog pix on their phone while we were waiting. Super nice. Food was fast and good - exactly what we were looking for to take out and sit in front of the ocean on a bench (you know...near that iconic Gloucester-man mariner statue that looks out to sea while leaning on the wheel....) with our dog and have a relaxing breakfast. Would definitely be back and do it again! read more

Two new sisters, Maura and Chris McCarthy ( and a very special husband !), purchased the breakfast/ coffee shop from the amazing former owner, Patty, in mid Sept, re opening the doors 9/24/18. We may have changed a few cosmetic aspects but have really tried to keep the homey atmosphere, and of course the terrific food ! We are so happy many of the staff remained so that we can continue to offer delicious home made breads and many other one of a kind breakfast specialty items - not to mention the personalized, caring service ! History

Established in 2001.

The restaurant has been in business for over fifty years. It started as a fruit stand, became a wonderful muffin shop, then ultimately a regular stop for Gloucester fishermen for a hearty breakfast, when the fishing fleet filled the harbor. Patty and Jackie were the first two sisters to run the shop, for the past 17 years. Now Chris and Maura are the "new" Two Sisters when they bought the restaurant in September, 2018.

Meet the Business Owner: Chris and Maura M.

Maura McCarthy and Christine McCarthy are the new owners behind Two Sisters, the year-round seaside cafe where Gloucester goes for breakfast.Growing up in a large Irish-American family Maura and Chris learned first hand that good food brings people together and that hot, fresh bread and butter, and a good cup of coffee can make any day better. In 2018, they teamed up to share the McCarthy spirit of home and hospitality with the Cape Anncommunity they know and love. Maura brings more than two decades of professional cooking experience from some of Rockport's favorite restaurants to the table, while Chris keeps the dining room running ship shape and welcomes folks like family. It's a business built on a dream and run with a commitment to excellence.You're never a stranger twice.They sincerely hope you'll join them, pull up a chair, take a break from the busyness and enjoy a meal of simply good food among friends.

There were maybe 8-10 very large shrimp, and they were perfectly cooked. The fried haddock/chips was great, fish was crispy and delicious, but unfortunately the fries were not good and did not match the caliber of the food served. Limp, and probably were hanging around under a heat lamp :-( Overall, service was OK. Food arrived fairly staggered and one entree was very late. The runner confessed and said he dropped the plate and it had to be remade. It would have been nice if the server informed us. I live in New York and grew up vacationing in Rockport, as my mother loves the ocean. My boyfriend and I checked Yelp for some recommendations for breakfast in this area and Two Sisters came up. This was, hands down, the BEST breakfast I have ever had in, literally, my entire life. I don't know if they had magic dust to sprinkle over EVERYTHING, but even the cheddar cheese in my omelette tasted the best it ever has to me. And if you think I am exaggerating, think again. I was so amazingly impressed by my food that I even told the waitress (one of the sisters?) it was the best breakfast I had ever had, who in turn told the other woman working (......the other one?) what I said and they thanked me. It is small but unlike most of the other reviews on here, we did not have a wait. I could see how there is easily a wait in the morning, but we went around noon. There is a white board that reads: "home made bread" and about 7 varieties listed. They didn't have sweet bread listed on there, but it was listed on few places on the menu so I asked if I could have that for my toast, and that was home made, too. We asked for our standard ketchup and hot sauce for our eggs, which they brought to us, but after one bite, neither of us even ended up using them. There was not one thing I could say about my food that would even be a little bit neutral- everything from the perfectly cooked eggs to the diced potato home fries was phenomenal. Even my boyfriend, who cooks a lot so he likes to critique other peoples cooking, was genuinely impressed with the food, and had no "suggestions." And I almost didn't get the hash, because it was a little pricey, but we decided to and it actually made me say "wow" after eating it. This is BY FAR the best breakfast place in Gloucester. (They serve lunch too, I've just never had it there, but it's safe to assume their lunch is amazing as well) Everything the make there is homemade (the muffins and breads are pretty amazing) so the quality is never in question. Every plate is made with as much love as a grandmother cooking for her family, and you really can taste it when you eat the food. Everything tastes fresh and made with lots of love. I can't say enough good things about how amazing the food it. The eggs are always cooked perfectly. If you order anything with fishcakes, you won't be disappointed. The only time I have had better fishcakes is when my grandmother used to make them. Their hollandaise sauce is to die for, it's so full of flavor and the perfect texture. Their home-fries are awesome. Big chances of potatoes with the greatest seasoning and flavor. The portions are big, but perfect for a good hearty breakfast. The service is wonderful. Everyone is so nice. If you are lucky enough to have the owner wait on you, you're in for a treat. She knows her menu inside and out, and she really knows people well. If you don't know what to order, or there are certain food that you dislike or really like, she will help you custom tailor your food to be exactly what you want. She won't charge you extra for any of these services or substitutions. You can tell that they really care that you have the best food possible. We usually love this breakfast place but this morning we had a really rude waitress, Kathy, Katie A, whatever an older lady. No she's not one of the owners either. Our children were ordering their own breakfasts and they were being so polite and she rudely kept asking them to repeat themselves as they were talking clearer than anything. No smile no personality whatsoever. We know this lady, she's a Gloucester lady, she's always been miserable so why is she a waitress at one of the best shops? I will not go there anymore. She brought one of our breakfasts 20 mins before the other 4, making it uncomfortable for one of us to eat so that person waited for the others to get their food, leaving their breakfast cold. Our children asked for juice and milk...they got the smallest cups which was fine but another couple with kids come in and get the nestle bottle, why? Food was good but need a new waitress. My boyfriend and I had breakfast on Sunday, 12/4 at Two Sister's..... IT WAS AWESOME! I had Kaitlyn Benedict and it WAS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. The Hash was fabulous! Fresh, home made and just what we were looking for. The bread so fresh.... but of course... it is daily. Patty could not have been nicer and made us feel like we had been friends for years.
