We usually buy & cook our own crawfish but that requires alot of work & advanced planning. This place is great for a spur of the moment gathering of friends for drinks & good crawfish. I was worried the crawfish might be small this late in the season but they were perfect. The medium is plenty spicy. you can add your own spice at the table. We also had the shrimp & it was tasty as well. Of course, like everyone else, the BYOB is the best part. poeple & we ate & drank what would have cost well over $100 elsewhere for $55. can't beat it. I live in the city, but I'm happy to make the 45 minute drive out to Crosby for the Crawfish Shack during the season. Their menu is small but they serve some of the best crayfish and cajun side dishes I have ever had. I usually go for 3-5 lbs. of crayfish with some sides. The mushrooms are delicious. Don't forget to try them! The crawfish etouffee is tasty too. Their staff is top-notch and friendly. Our first visit, the waitress let us try some sides for free. She made us feel very welcome. There's also ample parking. (The owner just bought an extra lot in the back.) My wife doesn't like the process of eating crayfish but she also loves this place. I think it's because of the outdoor atmosphere and crowd which is sort of a small town Texas just outside of the swamp vibe. She also likes the BYOB.. maybe a little too much. My friends and I came here a half hour before it opened on a Thursday night, and there was still a line! It was torture smelling all the good smells wafting out the door as we waited for Crawfish Shack to open, so once we sat at a picnic-style table, we were starving and ready to chow down. We came specifically for the crawfish, but we added corn, potatoes, mushrooms, and sausages to each of our giant bowls. I say "bowls," but they're really more like vats. A minimum individual order of crawfish is two pounds, so that's a lot of mudbugs to behead, deshell, and go full barbarian on. The spice level is great. If you're unsure, there's also a bottle of their seasoning on the table, so you could try a milder spice, and if you wanted more after all, you could always add some yourself. The servers are very accommodating and attentive. Our bowl for discarded shells were emptied regularly, and our waitress was wonderful and chatty. Trying every crawfish place I can this season! Heard about this place from a friend, so I figured I'd come check it out. We got here right at 12 when it opened and it was full already. We ordered 5 pounds of crawfish and a pound of shrimp. I also ordered a cup of gumbo because I'm a gumbo connoisseur. This place now has my vote for best gumbo of all time!! Easily. Broth was delicious and has a nice amount of meat in the gumbo. Crawfish is pretty good. It's not the best I've had (That one Place -Atascosita), but it's still pretty good. The mild is not very mild. It'd probably be better to get spicy. 7 bucks a pound is kinda steep, imo. Especially considering that I've had better crawfish for a lower price. Sausages are good. Their crawfish are AMAZING. I will definitely be returning. When you drive up you will see tons of people waiting but still ask how long the wait will be before being scared off. This place totally hits the spot for good old fashion boiled crawfish and lines outside the building proves it. It's more of a pavilion with picnic tables so don't expect anything fancy. A nice perk is that they did have a playground for the kiddos to get tired out on. My friend and & I got there a little before noon on a Saturday and luckily we went straight in and got a table. The server was friendly and prompt. It is byob so we saw plenty of tables with coolers. We'd ordered the spicy crawfish with corn, mushrooms, and potatoes, and sausage on the side. The spicy crawfish was so GOOD! It was spicy and the meat was well marinaded and juicy. It definitely lived up to its expectations. The prices were great too. The sad thing is I really love their crawfish but the reason I'm giving them one stars is they offer a 10% Law Enforcement discount, but that doesn't include detention officers. Officers who work in the jail surrounded by criminals daily. According to the lady in the drive thru people who work in the jail don't get the discount because they're not "on site" I'm very disappointed in them, especially for their reasoning. read more

The crawfish were not purged and were full of grit, severely underseasoned and not worth the money we paid for two flats. There is no way you will catch me anywhere near this place, much less waiting in ridiculously long lines for subpar crawfish. Came last Sunday for the first time and it was such a good time with great food, and great service. First impression was CRAP thats a lot of people waiting outside. We lucked upon someone leaving and got a good parking spot. As we walked up i wasn't aware that there was a checkin table by the door (so many people i couldn't see the table) so i approached some nice people and asked how the check in process worked. So if you haven't been walk up to the door and check in! ok so it ended up being only a 30 minute wait and i say only because like i said it looked intense from the outside. Me and my husband where definitely okay with 30 minutes. he was a trooper and walked to the nearest convenient store and got us some beer and a cooler to wait it out. Also they have a bottle opener by the front door. My husband only got a little bit of ice so he asked one of the girls working the door of they had any ice. The I'm assuming manager explained that they did but in hotter weather they normally don't give out any BUT they do provide big community coolers to store your beer. Thats awesome to me! So they did give us a little bucket of ice that was perfect, and they were so nice and accommodating! When checking in they ask if you are okay sharing a table with someone else, and we definitely where since it was just myself and my husband. The wait time was accurate and it might have been even sooner then 30 minutes anyway we were called and sat with two woman at a picnic like table. They have big fans threw out the tent also and the air circulation is good. as soon as we sat down we had a waiter there to get our orders which they have posted menus outside for you to look at while you wait so you should be good and ready by the time you sit down. If not they have menus posted not here napkin holders. Food came fairly quickly. This is what we ordered: red beans and rice, 5lbs of "Mo" spice with mushrooms, potato, and corn. The red beans and rice got to the table first, and as soon as they sat it on the table i smelled it and said "Popeyes" the ladies next to us started laughing (totally appropriate because we had formed a bond by then lol) so i had to try it (my husband ordered it HE loves red beans and rice) and y'all it taste JUST like Popeyes Chickens red beans and rice! So he SLAMMED that, and then here comes our crawfish. Our waiter was great and asked if we needed any butter or drinks, and the ladies next to us asked to turn the fans down so there food wouldn't get cold and he happily complied and turn them down for them. So the whole table got the Mo spice.... i was in crawfish, mushroom HEAVEN! (too spicy for my husband, and the lady next to us couldn't even really eat them and our waiter again was insistent that he changed them for her even when she said no because she didn't want to be any trouble. he reassured her that it was fine. he changed them for her and she was much happier) the crawfish were juicy and had a sprinkle of seasoning on top (they also have there signature seasoning on the table for you) The crawfish where cooked perfect, seasoned perfect for me.. the way that crawfish are supposed to be cooked where you should not need any extra seasoning and what it was boiled in should be enough and it WAS! ok but let me take a moment and talk about the little mushrooms! OhMyGosh! lol ugh they were soooo good! I had no idea! We are going to be back and since then went to a new spot close to us and i just was so unsatisfied with them because all i could think about was this experience. Next time we are taking some chairs to sit outside and cooler i don't know maybe some music and make it a party! lol ohhhh and they have a playground INSIDE the tent when you sit down. HELLS YES for the people taking the kiddos. thats genius and if we have to take the kids its cool cause they will definitely be entertained! For starters, my girlfriend, our daughter and myself visited this establishment for my sister in law's birthday. My brother had given the hostess the number of people in our party although my girlfriend and I hadn't been standing in line due to trying to find a parking spot (which can be hectic in itself considering the busyness of the place.) We walked inside with my brother who waited in front for us and as soon as we get to the table the hostess walks over and tells us we can't sit with our own family due to it not being room(which how can you tell someone there's no room at a picnic table with there own family) and secondly that we would have to go back outside to wait in line because in elementary fashion "there are no skips." Hearing this, we decide to leave. It's pretty crazy how as soon as our entire family follows us out, the hostess finds a way for us all to be seated AT THE SAME TABLE & even found a way to have two guest not apart of our party sitting at the tables end with a plexiglass in between us. The GUMBO WAS SO SOULLESS BUT I GUESS THATS WHY THEY ARENT THE GUMBO SHACK...chicken, flavorless and sausage was just as flavorless. Crawfish was just as mediocre. I have ate crawfish on all parts of the Houston & surrounding areas and they take the cake.I have very few 5 star reviews and this is one of them. Come early because the lines get longer than a parade.I personally order Meaux spicy which is the hottest.Their prices are always good and I have seen them as low as $4 a pound while other place charge $7-7.50 a lb.
