Banilla Cheesecake mini and watermelon agua fresca
    Adrian L.

I heard about Crazy Block from Instagram. I love barbecue and had to check them out. I ordered the Beef Rib plate that comes with two bones and two sides. I selected collard greens and corn bread. The ribs had a nice smoky flavor but wasn't fall off the bone tender. The sides were really good. I enjoyed a mini Banilla cheesecake and watermelon agua fresca. I look forward to trying more barbecue spots in Oakland.

The Ambiance is amazing, the service is amazing, the food was just ok. It wasn't bad, but not my go to for good BBQ. I ordered a 2 way, Beef Rib and Brisket, my sides were, collard greens and candy yams. I was set to order the Mac & Cheese, but when I saw it come out I changed my mind. The brisket was cook to perfect, but I had to add BBQ sauce to enjoy it . Though I am a heavy sauce guy, I like the meat banging without it. The beef rib, cooked to perfect, but was a bit tough for my liking, and since I cook beef ribs, I know the procedures to get rid of that toughness. I must add that the 2 way should come with cornbread or at least a slice of bread. ‍ And toothpicks should be available ‍‍ Now shame on me for coming to Crazy Block Cheesecake and not get a cheesecake ‍. I will visit again to try the chicken and the lamb, because I like the owners IG presence and vibe.

Found this place through social media and it immediately went on my must try list. Parking in the area is pretty easy, I snagged street parking right across the street without any trouble. The service was quick and super friendly and I even got to meet the owner who was genuinely warm and welcoming. Always a good sign when the owner is present and engaged. I ordered the combo plate with brisket, ribs, coleslaw and mac and cheese and everything was outstanding. The mac and cheese is an absolute must, incredibly creamy and the kind of side dish that steals the show. The brisket and ribs were exactly what you want from a BBQ spot. What really surprised me though was the longanisa. I've had longanisa plenty of times but never prepared with a BBQ flair like this. It was a really fun and delicious twist that I wasn't expecting. Also grabbed the latke and that was a great call too. This place is doing something really special and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Definitely coming back soon!

This place is always on my mind whenever I'm feeling hungry, even when I'm not in the mood for bbq which is crazy right!? Service is always on point & I LOVE the aesthetics of the restaurant. The Dino rib, dear lawd the Dino rib is priced to sell which is why it was sold out the first time I came here. But the second time! I grabbed two pounds & it was well worth it. The meat is so dang tender & the flavor is not typical bbq flavor which is why I'm so obsessed! It's so good! The Mac & cheese is soooo creamy! A different take on the popular side dish has me in an eternal chokehold as a Mac n cheese connoisseur. Show up hungry & leave with extra! Portions will leave you walking out with a smile believe it. *Edit* there's Dragon Ball playing on the tv, they're goated!

"Boozie sent us" Lol We found this place on TikTok from BoozieBrunch. We came for the Dino Ribs but they only sell them on certain days (Friday, Saturday and Sundays?) My husband enjoyed everything on his tray: Beef ribs, coleslaw, baked beans with brisket. He said everything tasted sooo good. Thumbs up on adding vinegar on the BBQ. He also ordered the links on the side. My food was ok: BBQ chicken, mac & cheese, collard greens. There were four pieces of chicken but not very meaty portions. I wouldn't order the mac and cheese again. The collard greens were good. We got the the brisket, candied yams and cornbread to go for our kids. They said the brisket was really tender and flavorful. They didn't want to share. No one really liked the candied yams. The star of the meal was the Henny Praline Cheesecake. OMG! I should've got the bigger serving. Not too sweet, loved the praline topping. We'll be coming back. Hubby really wants to try the Dino Ribs.

Saw this restaurant on social media and had to try it! My boyfriend and I love bbq (and supporting local businesses). The food was amazing, truly some of the best barbecue that we have ever had. Every worker was very nice and welcoming, and we will definitely be back!

An absolute Oakland gem! You simply can't beat this spot in the area. If you're in town, this place is a must stop for incredible food. This time I went with the Dino Ribs, and they were unbelievably tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Every bite was worth it! The quality, portions, and overall experience keep me coming back. If you're looking for amazing barbecue and a place that delivers every time, do yourself a favor and stop by.

    chicken loaded fries

The food was good overall. since i got it like that and im big asl I got the brisket sandwich with mac and cheese, plus loaded fries with brisket, chicken, cheese, and sauce. Everything had good flavor and the portions were solid. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because some of the food was a little too watery and the sauces made it a bit soggy. they got hella nice employes tooBesides that, everything was tasty and I'd definitely pull back up

I remember when Crazy Block Cheesecake used to be based in Alameda and I think at the time they only had cheesecakes, but now they have all kinds of BBQ and even latkes! The owner has absolutely perfected the craft of a good cheesecake. The first time I had a cheesecake from here was when they were still in Alameda and I bought a TooGoodToGo surprise bag from them. I got lucky and ended up with a medium cheesecake and a mini one. I talked about the cheesecakes regularly but hadn't gone back. This past weekend, they celebrated their one year anniversary at their storefront in Oakland. The owner has created such a vibe with vibrant paintings in and around the restaurant and they even had karaoke all day long for their anniversary. They should honestly have it every weekend. I could totally see myself going regularly with friends to just have bbq + cheesecake and vibe out with some karaoke. I ordered the Ube Buko Pandan Cheesecake and the Gulab Jamun Cheesecake, mini for each of them. I was worried that the Gulab Jamun would be super sweet and overly saturated with the rose flavor, but it was actually perfectly balanced. Every bite had the perfect amount of cheesecake to gulab jamun flavor. The ube buko pandan tasted like it had real ube in it, but maybe I was fooled. Either way, I hope it stays on the menu! For the BBQ, we ordered pulled lamb and brisket with mac and cheese + coleslaw. I was personally really enjoying the lamb even without any sauce. It had a nice seasoning blend on it. The natural lamb flavor was also pretty subdued, but in a good way. We also got some of their habanero sauce, which kinda reminded me of filipino vinegar. I really enjoyed it.

We're always on the hunt for great barbecue around Lake Merritt, and this place did not disappoint. We actually stumbled upon Crazy Block Cheesecakes by chance, and before we even made it inside, the owner was standing outside holding a tray with a lamb burger and fries. That alone had our attention. One look at that tray and we knew we had to check it out. Inside, the place has a fun vibe and an incredible display case packed with cheesecakes in just about every flavor you can imagine. It's hard not to stare at it for a minute before ordering. For lunch, my husband ordered the tri-tip burger with fries, and I went with the lamb burger with mac and cheese on the side. I also ordered one latke, which came with sour cream and applesauce, and that turned out to be a great call. Everything we tried was flavorful and satisfying. The barbecue was well seasoned and cooked just right. The lamb burger had great flavor, and the mac and cheese made the perfect comfort-food side. That latke was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and paired perfectly with the sour cream and applesauce. And then there's the cheesecake situation. The display case is stacked with options and honestly feels like a mini cheesecake museum. Even if you came just for barbecue, it would be hard to leave without taking a cheesecake home. The food was tasty, the portions were generous, and the whole experience felt welcoming and relaxed. It's always fun finding a spot that feels a little unexpected but delivers big on flavor. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu. Well done, Block. Well done indeed. Pro tip: Come hungry and save room for cheesecake. The display case alone is worth a visit.

Such a cute place. I was lured in by the owners IG marketing campaign. Finding a parking space was rough on a Saturday night. I placed my order online only to find that they were out of lamb upon my arrival. I had to pay and upgrade charge to get Salmon instead. Things I ordered Brisket: tender and delicious Salmon: Good flavor Links: dry - wont order again Yams - super sweet but delicious Mac n cheese - not 'traditional' but garlicky and tasty Baked beans (vegetarian and meat) tasty but for different reasons. The star of this review the Latke! I only got one because I wasn't sure. But the thickness, the oninion, the salt. It came with applesauce and sour cream. Im in love and will return.

Came here on a Sunday and it wasn't busy. We ordered a pound of lean brisket, a lamb sandwich, and a mini chocolate cheesecake. Everything was so tasty! I asked for lean brisket and it was so juicy and tender even though it was lean. The lamb was also super tender as well. The bun wasn't my favorite personally as it was a bit bland so I only had a bite of it. The bbq sauce was delicious! It wasn't too thick and it was on the sweeter side. We also tried the garlic aioli but it wasn't my favorite as it was a bit bland as well and just tasted like a plain sauce with not a lot of flavor. The chocolate cheesecake was amazing! It wasn't too thick and heavy and it wasn't overly sweet either. The graham cracker crust was yummy as well as I believe it's homemade. Would love to try another flavor cheesecake next time!

So many flavors to try!!! Of cheesecakes!!

I'm forever grateful for that recommendation because they make some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I've tried a few items on the menu, but the one I always recommend is the Hot Italian. Everything about this sandwich is incredible. It's packed with flavor, and you can honestly tell it was made with care. I usually pair it with a bag of chips, and the total comes to around $18. It's absolutely worth every penny and always leaves me full and satisfied. The shop is consistently clean, and the customer service is always friendly and welcoming. I find myself going back over and over again, then telling myself I need to take a break--only to end up back there a few weeks later. That's how good it is. A couple of things to keep in mind before you visit: there's only limited street parking, so you may have to circle the block to find a spot. There's also not much room to wait inside, although they do have a bench or two where you can sit while your sandwich is being prepared. In my experience, the wait is usually around 15 minutes. I've honestly never been here when it wasn't busy, so expect a crowd. But once you take that first bite, you'll understand why. Great food, great atmosphere, and great customer service. The sandwiches are hefty, with lots of great meats and fillings, and for the price, very decent! I wish my bread were a bit more toasted and crunchier, but that's my preference. First off, this sandwich is massive, so be sure that you come here on an empty stomach. These beef meatballs are seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. The balls are covered in their red sauce with provolone and Grana Padano, which gives it that nutty and salty flavor that pairs extremely well with the meatballs and baguette. All the juices and cheese just get soaked up to perfection. The baguette bread they use is supplied by La Farine, which is just a few meters away from each other. If you are going to have any sandwich to eat here first, I would highly recommend you try "The Balls" because I promise you will not be disappointed. Truly heartbreaking to see how far we've fallen with this shop from the staff blatantly ignoring customers to gab, deceptive assembly of sandwiches, to questionable practices of food safety. I don't like to complicate things, so I will 9/10 times order something I've eaten before because I like "tried and true." Due to this, for the aforementioned 20 years, I have ordered the Little Lucca Ultimate Club on Dutch Crunch, same cheese every time and all. Imagine my surprise when the bread is still roughly the same size as always, but the meat portions are wildly lacking in comparison to past orders. Little Lucca has been featured on TV and social media for the enormous size of their sandwiches and have been heavily commended on the meat-to-price ratio of sorts for that reason. I mean, even here on their Yelp page they boast about the sizeable sandwiches. The issue now is that reducing portion size of the interior (meat), while keeping the exterior the same (bread), is very misleading when your brand is known for loading up the sandwich. Bread is delicious, but I'd hazard a guess that customers would want less bread than less meat. I am no detective, but I did notice that my total for two sandwiches was ~$33 which was less than the usual ~$39, so it could be that the reason for less meat is to keep the cost low. Still, even when it was costing me an all-time high of ~$18 for an Ultimate Club, it was worth it in the end for the portion received. For sandwiches' sake, THREE different people were involved in my Club and I was thoroughly told I was wrong to believe the ULTIMATE Club came with more than THREE strips of bacon despite it being one of the three meats of the sandwich. I attached photos to show how I'd rather pay the extra $6 to get the original sandwich back. I didn't want to argue, so after they said it a second time, I relented. Still, as I was going to pay, they opened up another sandwich to "prove" the bacon portion size. I apologized to the other customer on their (Lucca) behalf. There are two boxes of gloves always on the counters of Little Lucca, one by the bread, the other by the meat slicer. They have been there faithfully for so long, it's almost comforting to see them. I found out today that they are just for decoration as not one of the FIVE sandwich makers replaced their gloves between touching meats, surfaces (microwave/fridges/drawers/slicer), ingredients from the bucket underneath, sandwich assembly, or my personal favorite, coming from the back storage. In lieu of swapping gloves, the sandwich makers have settled on wiping the surface of their current gloves with butcher paper. When I asked at the register about this practice, I was told that is literally as they are trained to do. They are apparently told there is NO NEED to replace gloves unless they go to the back storage. That one hit a little weird for me. I promise that this is not an easy review to leave and it is so disappointing that this is where Little Lucca ends for me, but I could not be less enthused about paying less for a sandwich if it's going to be so poorly made, nostalgia be dawned. The locals already know this, but I'll just put it out there for visitors to not get duped, you will for sure catch me going to Teani's from now on. I asked for Kathy, the owner, at the register so that I could share my concern with her, but she was in the back and I was told she was busy. I didn't want to hold the flow of the business up, so I paid, thanked the person at the register and left, not to return. Few things are as much of a bummer as paying for food you didn't like.
