4/5/26- #2 Special Combination Ham Banh Mi

Banh Mi Ba Le Sandwiches, Oakland Everything is so good here! Best in the BAY BANH MI SANDWICHES! I always get the #2 Special Combination or #15 Fishcake sandwich, veggies on the side, with an order of their Vietnamese Iced coffee. They also have really good Vietnamese egg rolls and meat pies. Just remember, this area isn't in the safest neighborhoods and one should always look around their surroundings! Highly recommended to call ahead if you have a large order! Parking on side and back of the building. DO NOT PARK ON RED, easy $500 TICKET! Parking Enforcement and Police are often in the area so be warned! They take CASH AND CREDIT CARDS!

Dessert and fried egg rolls

We waited about an hour ordering and waiting for our sandwiches. The line was wrapped around in the store and outside. I loved the dessert I tried the fruit and jellies one of my favorites. The sandwich bread was crunchy and the meat was tasty. I had one of the egg rolls while waiting for my sandwiches. It was still warm but it needed a dipping sauce to finish it off. Next time I want to try the mango or avocado shake.

$6-$7 for a bahn mi

My homies parents gave me a bahn mi once and said it was from Oakland. Curiosity brought me here and the taste keeps me coming back. The bahn mi wrapper and rubber band position says a lot. Where it came from and what one thinks is good. It's like a signature of the store, this stores got yellow wrappers and the rubber band goes on verticals. Which stands out to anyone who eats bahn mi a lot. $6.75 out the door for one #2 special combo ham. The bread is crunchy but not burnt and the pate is savory mineraly authentic. Although the area is not as clean as one would like the taste makes up for it. It's like GTA ,As crazy as it is and sounds i have found it crazy delicious as well. The street vendors by the coliseum and off international are some of the best eats I've had. Do be warned Definitely Leave the kids at home unless you want to prove a point

#2 - special ham combo

Banh Mi Ba Le has hands down the best valued banh mi in East Bay. I stopped by right when they opened at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning and there was already a few people in line in front of me. Parking is limited in front of the store so consider stopping by with a friend so they can park in front with the hazards lights on while you quickly run inside for food. In addition to banh mis, they also have a wide variety of jelly desserts in the fridge, fried egg rolls in a heating case, as well as shrimp spring rolls. I ordered two #2 -- the special ham combo, and at $6.50 each, it's an absolute steal for how much sandwich you're getting. The sandwiches here are sizable and packed with meats and veggies. The pickled daikon and carrot matchsticks provide a nice freshness to contrast the saltiness of the cured meats and the richness of the pate. The fresh bread that they use here also has the perfect texture to it: wonderfully crunchy crust, while soft and chewy on the inside. If you're looking for a delicious to-go meal on a budget, Banh Mi Ba Le is the place to go. Just watch out for the pot holes on the drive over.

First time here and was lucky enough there was no line for a Friday afternoon. Ordered the combo and was in/out in 5 mins! It's not much of a sit down place Surprisingly the pickled radish really stood out - it was a nice, distinct sweet and vinegar taste infused together. The sandwich had generous fillings of cold cut meat and veggies with pate completing the sandwich. I liked that the toasted baguette was crunchy but not too much where it cut your insides of the mouth. Only have street parking and not in the best area but sandwich is worth $6.75 if I'm ever passing by in the area

If you want a loaded Bahn Mi this is the place, so cheap, so much meat, so good! I like ther meat pie And eggrolls with shrimp as well.

Flan, and ce phe sua da coffee.

5/5: Ca phe sua da coffee: excellent. perfect sweetness, dark and rich. 3: Grilled pork banh mi: it's a cheaper sausage style banh mi. I think it's better to go with the #2 cold cut banh mi. 2: Flan. Very flavorless. The wait to order can be long, and then there is a ong wait after ordering for pickup.

The best banh mi in town! I've been here a handful of times mostly for their sandwiches and it never disappoints. The quality of the bread is top notch - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's always made fresh to order. I arrived on a Sunday around 1:30pm and there was already a line. I ordered 3 sandwiches - #2 Special Combo Ham Sandwich, #5 Meatball Sandwich, #7 BBQ Pork Sandwich. I really enjoyed meatball the most since the meat was soft and tender. I will most likely order that one again. Parking is a little tricky and it isn't located in the best area. They are also only open 3 days a week and close at 3pm so make sure to check the hours before stopping by. Not sure if they take credit card, but I did pay in cash.

Good portions for $6.50. However, sometimes they give me the wrong order. I usually get bbq pork but today I received the wrong item and I didn't enjoy it.

Clearly this place is beloved. I honestly didn't know this place was open, I've driven by so many times. My neighbor told me about it, so I stopped in on a Friday afternoon not really knowing what to expect. The line was already out the door at 11am. Took about 20 minutes for me to be able to place my order. It was so hot inside. Standing room only. The person taking my order was nice and efficient. After placing my order, I had to wait probably another 20 minutes or so. People were either ordering single sandwiches or upward of 10-20 sandwiches! It was wild. I can see why the line was so long. This was by far the best banh mi I've had in my life. Probably. Most likely. I will say I'll probably order ahead next time. I don't think I can do that line again. Lol

Yen D.

Found out they are open only on the weekends, only accept cash and only open when the owners are collecting money to go to Vietnam, stay there until they need more money then come back to the US to open up this shop again. I was lucky enough to try their banh mi. Tried their special banh mi and their bbq pork banh mi. Both very good and $7 each which is great! There's no place to sit. Long lines but it goes fast. There's also Vietnamese che and yogurt as well as Thai tea in their fridge.

banh mi ba le is my new go to for quick Vietnamese sandwiches without having to visit the south bay. Their service was super fast, their service was better than what you would expect from the south bay. And the ambience is a little sketchy given the area it is in.

Ask the Community - Banh Mi Ba Le

What is their current hours of operations?

What's up with the inconsistent hours? Lately I feel they have been closed more on days they are normally open.

Their business hour is inconsistent due to short of supplies since covid. Just call them before visit to make sure.

What happened here? Drove by on a Saturday 1pm and it's all boarded up. Was hoping to get some food!

They went Hollywood, they only open when they want to. Disregard their posted hours.

Do they still sell banh khot?

I got them last month. It was just sitting on the counter, but hardly ever see them otherwise.

When are they open? And when are they closed?

Their hours change a lot but the most accurate way to find out is to call their phone number. When you call, the voicemail will note their most up-to-date opening/closing hours.

Are party trays available?

Sorry I did not see that option on the menu

Do they have a catering menu and where can I find it?

You can call them to ask and they can make party trays of basically anything the sell

I saw a post that the hours listed isn't up to date. Does anyone know what their current hours are?

Wednesday-Sunday 730am-300pm

Can you call in an order in advance? Is it still buy 3 get one free?

Yes you can but not always easy to get your phone call answered. I've been purchasing 4-8 sandwiches at a time here for about 4 years now and have never heard of or received a…

When will this place reopen?

Their voicemail said 2/16

Is the grilled pork sandwich is not like regular vietnamese grilled pork, but patties?

The grilled pork here is more like thick cuts of char siu, not the typical thin slices of Vietnamese grilled pork.

How come on here it said you close at 4am and you post you close at 3pm?

Are they open today (Sunday)? Their VM says they are open Th-Sun 8am-4pm but no one is picking up

Yes. I visited on Sunday a few weeks ago. The phone gets super busy during lunch time. I called 3 or 4 times until someone picked up

What are their current operating hours?

Thursday- Sunday 8am-4pm

Have they reopened for takeout?

Yes!

Does anybody know if they are opened today 1/25/20 on New Years?

They will be closed today. Three days total. They will be open again on Tuesday. Click on "tips" to see my pic of their sign from yesterday.

What are their business hours?

7:30-4:30. Closed Sun & Mon.

Does anybody know if their mayo/butter is made with raw eggs?

you can make request for either

Do they sell party trays?

Yes, they are more known for their sandwiches. I would recommend other places if you're looking for yummy party trays.

How much do they charge for extra pate or mayo/butter on sandwiches?

Not sure, but when I order extra meat they go by dollar amount, example: $1, $2 worth, etc.

This is already on my top five list in a single visit. Went for the basics: beef pho, and salad roll with tofu. I was initially put off by the short menu and few options to add toppings (I didn't see any tendon or tripe for example), and worried it would be too bland or too sweet--but it was not. The broth was deeply flavorful and more savory. Meats were generous and meatballs were exceptional, maybe the best I've had. The basil and sprouts were garden fresh, and unusually, the rice noodles were exceptional, not at all soft or pressed together. I could genuinely taste the love here. It extended to the salad rolls which were generously portioned and used lightly fried tofu which I prefer. One additional note about the broth. It's a richer style than I normally like so I couldn't drink it to the last drop, but I can't fault its great flavor. The service was above average, with a spirited vibe. Loved everything, will be back to try more on the menu.

The pho was solid, with a clear, deeply flavored broth and noodles that were slightly al dente, which I personally enjoyed. That said, for $20, it didn't feel especially memorable. The crispy spring rolls were fine, but I prefer the ones I make at home, so I'd probably skip them next time. I was especially excited to try the Vietnamese beef carpaccio, and the presentation was beautiful. The beef was fresh, evenly sliced, and topped with baby greens, onions, crispy fried onions, and edible flowers. Unfortunately, the sauce leaned far too citrusy for my taste and overpowered the flavors I wanted to come through, such as fish sauce, vinegar, and sugar. I also think a little more fried onion and garlic would have made the dish more flavorful and satisfying. Overall, we had a decent meal with both highlights and misses. They also offer dishes like bánh khọt and bò lúc lắc, which may be worth trying on a future visit.

We ordered the tofu bahn mi, tofu, veggies and mushroom vermicelli and Vietnamese pancake with shrimp. They were all amazing. My fiancé had the vermicelli bowl which he said was pretty good with all the stirred fried tofu, veggies and mushrooms. What was surprising the most was the Vietnamese pancake. It was so good that I would come back for just this appetizer. It has a crunchy texture on the outside, but the inside was so creamy. Wrap that with a lettuce and dip in the fish sauce and wow! This is a fast place, table sharing, no room having place. If you're looking for a western style dining, it can become overwhelming. But, just embrace the speed and efficiency of this restaurant. Because once you are seated, you're served immediately to get you on the way. With service, don't expect tier 1 experience, but you'll get your water/tea. Savor it, don't assume they'll come back while you're still eating. Just saying! There's a few things on the menu that are must have.. 1. Chow Jew Ho Fun with soup on the side - the obvious that everyone orders. I like to get soup on the side, and then put about two tablespoons soup back into my noodle and add all the sauces! Then occasionally, sip the soup to wash everything down. 2. Beef Stew Ho Fun - My boyfriend's must have. Flavorful, soft meat, delicious. 3. Fish Cakes - Personally, I don't care for fish cakes, but my boyfriend and his family order it all the time, so of course I'll still eat it. It's still good. I'm just a person who feels I can buy it from the banh mi shops and it taste the same. Lol I don't eat anything else here. This is one of those restaurants where you go and eat what they're known for, not wander off too far away from the menu because the other stuff is just legit filler items. The only problem I have is, it's so expensive now for a small bowl. So it makes me not want to come back, but at the same time, flavors are really good. You just would think with the amount of customers, the business thriving, you could at least keep the portion size the same as before..

We ordered the wicked buns, Saigon give you wings, garlic noodle and the bo luc lac. The food was out very quickly. Wicked Buns: The wicked buns were quite good. Truly cannot go wrong with some fried bao buns! Chicken Wings: We really enjoyed the chicken wings as well. The fish sauce gives the wings a nice sweetness and makes them quite addicting. Garlic Noodles: The garlic noodles had a nice char flavor to it. We could see them set it on fire from the bar, although we felt that the garlic noodles could have had a bit more salt and garlic in them. The shrimp also tasted frozen but they were still good. Bo Luc Lac: We enjoyed the bo luc lac as well, it was cooked well and quite tender. It was very flavorful to the point it made us wish we had ordered the dirty rice with it. Cocktails: For drinks I asked the bartender what he recommended and offered to make me something. It wasn't off-menu, but he made the Pillow Talks which had gin, calamansi and egg white in it. It had a nice flavor profile and balance and creaminess to the drink. I also ordered the Pandanmonium which is a pandan old fashioned which I really enjoyed. The drinks were quite fairly priced as well which I really appreciated. Overall, I think the portion sizes can be a little small for the price, but the food is delicious and great. The drinks are also great and I would definitely come back for them!
