Is it common for a place to be much better during it's "soft opening" period than it is in subsequent months? I went to this place a few times during their first 3 weeks and thought it was promising but it's taken a half step back since then. Here's what hasn't changed: They carry nice cakes & sweets many of which are supplied by La Rocca as well as Kawartha Ice Cream. They also have sandwiches and serve espresso drinks. Service is very friendly. The La Rocca sweets are very good and although pricey I don't think they charge anymore than what I've heard other people pay at La Rocca's own shop. IIRC my lemon tart was a little over $5. However it's a pricey option for when you just want a little sweet pick-me-up with coffee compared to a donut or muffin. I also tried some Banana loaf which was available to sample but it was dry and tasted bit old. Maybe that was just the free sample piece but it wasn't a good impression to create. When they first opened they sold a nice selection of sweet & savory pastry like Cheese Danish, various Persian sweets and the meat & cheese version of those deep-fried Persian donuts (similar to Piroszki) but after the first few weeks that selection thinned out and has been replaced by ordinary buns & croissants that look mass produced for supermarket (actually No Frills up the street has nicer Panini & Kaisers for much less) so the only real purpose of these is to make cold sandwiches which I personally have no interest in paying for (unless I've handpicked the bread, cheese & cold cuts from a much better source). They serve ESSE brand coffee which is like a slightly weaker & smoother version of Illy. The Latte was just OK. I don't know if they have a drip or pour-over option but I would recommend against it because these kind of beans & roast are only suited for Espresso and tend to make really nasty filter coffee. It's an OK option for sweets & espresso especially since they're open till 10pm (11 on Fridays & Saturdays) and even with the construction chaos on Yonge it might be a worth a drive down to skip the long lineups & awful service at the Hilcrest places and Panera. But I think they would do themselves a favor to go back to selling some of the more interesting items they had when they first opened.

Last Saturday, I was in my car, parked steps away from Zoup! I had placed a dinner order. I looked across the plaza and noticed Paris Baguette (PB). I had visited COBS Bread a couple of hours earlier. Did I need another bakery visit? Yes! I had some time to kill before picking up my dinner. It was raining. I drove over to PB and parked relatively close to the store. I walked in. I felt like I was in heaven. Carb heaven. Where should I start? I got a tray. There were instructions to grab a small piece of paper and lay it on the tray. I got tongs and went to work. I saw palmiers. My mom loves them. I grabbed one with my tongs and broke off a curved section. It was probably a first for me. I ate the broken part and placed the imperfect palmier on my tray. The broken piece was yummy and was perfection. I finally understood why my mom loves palmiers. I hit the croissant section. I got a pain au chocolat, which is probably my favourite type of croissant. I also got a chocolate croissant. A nice, older woman started chatting with me. She was so sweet. She let me know that she frequents this bakery often and loves it. I asked her what items she hasn't had. It was two items, which floored me. She noticed the chausson aux pommes that I had on my tray and said that it was yummy. I got the following items: - Chausson aux pommes - Chocolate croissant - Pineapple brûlée pastry - Palmier - Pastel de nata - Pain au chocolat - Curry croquette The nice woman let me know that Mia, who was the staffer behind the counter, let her know that this bakery has Korean owners. Really? It made sense seeing mochi donuts. We both hit the checkout counter. Mia got her order and said to grab a seat. She'd bring everything to her. This nice woman said that she was shy of being 90 years old. What?! She looked great! I wouldn't have guessed that I was talking to an 89-year-old woman during my entire time here. I hope that when I am her age, I am savouring pastry as often as my new friend. Mia was great. She put all my pastries in a box. She singled out my savoury curry croquette in a paper bag. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I got my receipt, thanked her, grabbed my goodies, wished my new friend a wonderful day, and left. There was a Wild game that night. I had a pastry each period. Three pastries in three hours. They were delicious! I will say that the ones with fresh fruit were the most expensive, just over $6. They were worth it. The chausson aux pommes had the best apple filling. It was flaky and delicious. I absolutely devoured the pineapple brûlée pastry. The pineapple chunks were set in custard and were so naturally sweet. This pastry was superb. The pain au chocolat continues to be my favourite croissant. It was flaky and had the best chocolate in every bite. So good! I had the chocolate croissant and loved it. It was fresh, flaky, and soft. The chocolate drizzle had the right amount of chocolate with the buttery croissant. I was extremely happy with my pastel de nata. The custard had a hint of sweetness. The base of flaky. It could have been torched on top more, but I'd get half a dozen next time. I didn't know what to expect with the curry croquette. It was delicious. It had a crispy exterior, crusted with a mix of white and black sesame seeds. The curry filling was full of good flavour. It had veggies in it. The corn and carrot combination worked nicely. I raved about this place to my friend at work today. There's one at Heartland in Mississauga, which is perfect for us to do a run after work. I had an excellent experience. It was nice meeting a passionate pastry lover while getting her take on what she loves. Everything that I consumed was excellent. I hope to get a drink next time and perhaps sit down to enjoy it. I'll be back. (117)

Browsed my Yelp app in attempt to find a bakery nearby and was probably the best idea ever!…read more I have driven across this bakery numerous times as it is located in a plaza with The Beer Store. The store was very quiet when I arrived, one other customer browsing the display. There are some seats there and the store front is very spacious and clean. I had a very tough time deciding what to pick up as everything looked amazing and fresh. I finally decided on the apple tart ($18), napoleon ($3), raspberry napoleon ($3.5), tiramisu ($4) and raspberry mousse ($4). The only item I tried was the apple tart as the rest were given t ofriends and family. The apple tart was perfectly light and the apples were very fresh. I will definitely be back to try other things.... probably later this week!! PS. They are closed on Mondays.

The place was empty when I looked through the windows, but my Yelp friend just dragged me in. I do have to thanks him for that. All I have to say their pastries is amazing! And so good in value! They all looked so good in the display so it took us a little while to decide what to get. Raspberry Napoleon ($3.50) tasted delish and huge! Chocolate waffles ($2.50) so rich! Americano and Cappuccino for $1.50 each?! Who needs to go to Tim Hortons just across the street?! Now I need to come back to try out other home made pastries and desserts! Danish? Apple Tarts? or More Napoleon!!

Italian rum cake 4. Tiramisu cake 5. Chocolate Truffle Cake 6. Pistachio Almond Cake 7. I recommend this place whole heartedly and I must say I'll be back (probably next week again)
