Spring has sprung! Ok, not really. It's damp and cold, but technically it's spring which means spring break, which means what do I do with my children for two weeks???? I was trying to think of a great project on a budget that would spark their creative side and decided to do a succulents planter. On to Yelp to see where we could find the perfect place....enter Creative Gardens! We pulled up and when we walked in, were warmly greeted by the resident golden retriever, Maddie. She is so sweet and followed us around everywhere. We started talking to Sarah and told her the kids were going to make a fairy garden with succulents. She said that they didn't quite have any of their fairy garden figures out yet, but she would be happy to go get the boxes they were stored in and bring them out to us (so sweet and kind of her!). She also informed us that the succulents were in a greenhouse with BUTTERFLIES! Wha??? Butterflies? My kids (plus friend) went nuts! We went into the greenhouse and forgot all about the succulents. They had butterflies flying around every where with little sponge paint sticks with a sweet solution on them to attract the butterflies to you. We spent a good 45 minutes in this small area just because of the gorgeous butterflies. Each child finally picked their succulent and on to find a planter. They decided to get one larger planter to share to save their money (they had a budget). We then went by the house that you pay and Sarah had several boxes of all kinds of goodies for the kids to use in their fairy garden. We went inside to pay and met the owner and another sweet, but older golden retriever. We had so much fun that we came back today (3 days after our first visit) to walk around again and visit the butterflies. I can't say enough how much we enjoyed ourselves and how wonderful Sarah is. Did I mention there is beautiful music piped throughout? Such a special place. We are looking forward to going back in a month or so when more flowers have bloomed and it's a tad bit warmer! read more

Creative Gardens was indeed creative, as well as fast, efficient, and entertaining to work with. The design process was rather fun - CG provided several custom design concepts to choose from, which they then modified to reflect our specific preferences and tastes in hardscape, plants, and accents. The CG design center is replete with a plethora of natural stone water features, interesting fire pits, and exotic back yard accents. The actual work was surprisingly fast and efficient - a comprehensive landscaping of both our front and back yards took just a little over two weeks, which was impressive given the relatively large size of our lot and the scale of the project. The work schedule was well coordinated and organized, with separate crews of 3 to 5 working on each successive project phase - demolition, grading, hardscape installation, planting, etc. Finally, CG was surprisingly responsive to our (inevitable) mid-project change orders (e.g., oh - let's add several plants here and here, enlarge the fire pit area, and by the way, we would like a small dog run on the side of the house, etc.). The end result is a delightfully functional and visually pleasing front and back yard, ideal for lounging, entertaining, and daydreaming. Just fell in love with this awesome garden center. The have very unusual plants. Petunia's galore, in every color, even spotted ones. The staff there is most helpful and very friendly. I asked if there offered a discount day or a senior discount, and was very happy to find 10% off for seniors everyday. They also have cute gifts inside. Check it out!! AWESOMEEEE! I'm new to gardening and they helped me so much with what to do. I didn't know what to get but I showed them a picture of my garden and they knew what to get. They have a bunch of selections and with that, if you see something, grab it because it surely won't be there the next time because someone else might've bought it. They have a succulent bar as well, which is really affordable. You can get a lot for their price. There's a clearance sale in the back as well, so don't forget to check that out! Creative Gardens designed and built a beautiful back yard for us. The high quality of work was done professionally and quickly. From the initial concept/design to the final finished product. CJ, Lorrie, Manuel, and of course Cruz & crew were an absolute pleasure to work with. CJ took our initial concept layout and transformed it into an extraordinary design that turned out spectacular. He helped guide us with optional concepts along the way when we changed our minds on certain aspects of the design/layout. Lorrie worked with us in the same way. What an absolute pleasure it was to work with the entire Creative Gardens team! CJ and Lorrie took an interest in us from the moment we walked through the doors of their design center, something we did not experience with any other landscape designers in Reno or Sparks. They sat down with us to get a basic idea of our vision; a few days later, they came to our under-construction house to help us formulate a plan. Being new to Reno we had zero knowledge of plants, bushes and trees native to the area. With that in mind, CJ and Lorrie showed us lots of pictures. We were impressed by their knowledge and in the end went with their recommendations. It will be fun to watch everything grow as we enjoy the seasonal color! At that same meeting, we talked about a water feature we saw in their yard but they were no longer able to purchase from their vendor. CJ searched for a very long time until he found it. Talk about perseverance! The Creative Garden employees have a work ethic like none other. Our landscaping was done during the cold month of December. The team arrived early, worked non-stop through the bitter cold, and left late into evening when their only source of light was their cell phones. We couldn't get them to stop! Their attention to detail and accuracy was impressive and made us wish they had built our house--that's no joke. Jeff, the project manager, was at our home daily (sometimes twice daily) to make sure everything was on schedule, to trouble shoot if necessary, and to communicate with us. Cruz, the landscape foreman, worked as hard as every other crew member and had their total respect. Thanks to CJ's creativity, their hard-working employees, and the open line of communication, our non-landscaped backyard transformed into something beautiful. This place is amazing and we feel the very best nursery all around. Our first time going there was last week. We had the pleasure of meeting Lindsay who was very knowledgeable, very helpful, not pushy what so ever and very nice. She helped us with our needs of redoing our front yard. We went back this past Monday to buy more plants and trees and Dan and Lorrie helped us. Again we had a wonderful experience with them, their help and friendliness. Today we went back and Lindsay helped us. We got even more plants. And two trees. We are excited to work with them in doing our backyard this spring. It's a fun nursery with beautiful plants and trees that are very healthy. They have awesome dirt to buy as well. Also a wonderful gift shop but most of all they greet you when you walk in and they are a friend right away. First, let me start by saying that we did the research and had five (5) different companies come out to provide quotes. They all had similar pricing structures and gave examples of similar work. We selected Creative Gardens for the many reasons listed below that highlight why they rose to the top: · Experience with the ARC Committee of our HOA so they knew exactly what was needed to pass plans with flying colors (comments we received included: "we appreciate the detail" and "beautiful") · Professional and very personable; understood our outdoor living desires. · Extremely knowledgeable (4th generation in industry). · Asked relevant questions that others did not. · Used visual aids which was invaluable. · Own a nursery so they are vested in long-term relationships and have access to far more variety of landscape materials. We had heard the all too common horror stories about other companies starting and stopping work; having to remove large percentage of pavers due to being installed incorrectly; wrong plants being delivered; non-responsive to phone calls; and, pavers slipping away shortly after work completion. We have had an amazing experience and couldn't be more pleased. Lorrie and CJ went far above and beyond expectations from start to finish. We didn't have a water feature or firepit installed but they do those as well and those options were considered during design phase. The barbeque island and dining table they installed are fantastic and the entire completed project is quite breathtaking! I'm so glad we opted to include not only a custom bench built by CJ but also a garden hutch with sink so I can keep my mess outdoors! I only wish we had room for a Gnome House!!! read more

I love this place, unfortunately Creative Gardens is closed for the season, but it's great service that they will meet you by appointment, even on their off season! We picked out a beautiful blue spruce for our Christmas tree and so excited! One of our favorite garden centers to shop in the spring for veggies!!! All of my fruits trees that I have purchased from Creative Gardens last year are doing just wonderful, they have produced a delicious harvest! These folks always have the best display ever at the Home Show - what's funny is that I've seen them there for the past 7 years but I've never shopped at the nursery. I didn't know they HAD a nursery - I thought it was all just creative landscaping and fun playhouses. We stopped by "that nursery on Rock" the other day and found out it was the same one from the Home Show! I will say that they didn't impress much in the way of fruit trees or berry bushes (which is what we were looking for) but we did find some reasonably priced Virginia Creepers and picked up two of them. I absolutley LOVE unique, shabby chic, rusty one of a kind pieces and this place has them! I am still pining three days later for a backwards side by side iron bench they have. When we went on Sunday they only had one employee and she was very busy but dropped everything to help us out and make chit chat with us while we were paying for our creepers. She even helped us load them in our jeep which was unnecessary. Super nice staff and fun nursery to find fun items you won't find anywhere else. I'm only doing 4 stars instead of 5 because they don't have a lush variety. read more

I had Creative Gardens come check my Sprinkler System when I turned it on. I'd forgotten to turn one valve, the repairman was very nice. Fixed it in one minute. I was charged $85.00, 15 minutes, for the call. I called Laurie and she told me that $85.00 is the hourly rate and the minimum they charge for a house call. I thought that excessive but learned that is the going rate for this service from other suppliers, as well. I do wish they had informed me of the cost before I asked them to make the house call. I have purchased plants from them and have found them to be very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in picking out plants. Their prices seem reasonable, too. read more

In honor of David Letterman's last show tonight... I present the Top Ten Reasons to Always Shop at Creative Gardens: 10. The man in charge, Brian, is pure 100% genius. He is warm, welcoming, and a true consultant with expertise spanning from engineering to horticulture. Brian has a great eye for color and design; he emphasizes the dimension of the seasons in his pairings. If you just need a shoulder to cry on, he is there for you too ;) 9. Creative Design has a huge selection and puts Moana to shame. My favorite plants at Creative Gardens were the zebra grass (a new plan to me) and the hostas (they used to grow in my parents home in Wisconsin, I have fond memories). 8. The plants at Creative Designs are really healthy. Compared to the three other nurseries we went to first, Creative Garden stands alone. 7. Brian provides easy to follow maintenance tips. Don't worry, he only recommends pruning once a year. Just enough time to get a health dose of sunshine and work on your tan. 6. The owner, CJ, builds some crazy cool garden sculptures and playhouses. I hear Creative Garden puts on one heck of a display at the annual Home and Garden Show every year too. 5. Sort of an offbeat place. Cannot understand these over the top 5 star reviews....A positive--Paula was friendly and helpful...Creative Gardens has plenty of cute garden displays, but their plants were lacking in quality..We like supporting local businesses, but when we later checked out the Lowe's on Kietzke, we found a far wider selection of fruit trees and scrubs--and these better looking trees were on sale...At Creative Gardens, we still made a decent purchase--almost $650.00...We have no truck--so Creative Gardens nailed us for 100.00 to deliver 8 small trees, and some tiny plants...We made a far larger purchase at Lowe's, and delivery was just $69.00--and Lowe's is farther away. The kicker is when Creative Gardens delivered our young trees--our delivery was made in a open truck--the trees all looked terribly beat up...missing leaves, and also missing the common name tags for the trees...When we contacted Creative Gardens, both Paula and Lorie were defensive. Instead of turning this issue into something positive, they both made excuses--Paula even claiming "maybe the tree name tags were blown off"...By contrast, Lowe's delivered our trees and bushes in an enclosed truck--and all arrived in great shape..We will be spending a lot more cashy this spring on trees and shrubs--and we will use Lowe's... read more

I have been here a few times and always find interesting things to buy, folks are nice too. But this review is really more centered on one person, Brian. I have a tree that was giving me great concern so I contacted Brian to ask his opinion. He was full of questions and requested some photos of the tree and the conditions around it. With in 24 hours he had an in depth reply as to his opinion. He took the time to listen to me and took the time to consider all with a very pleasant personality. Just found this nursery and I am in love! I walked in to find a beautiful selection of plants as well as classical music playing throughout the property. It was just lovely. The staff was courteous and prompt to greet me upon entry and everyone was so knowledgeable and patient with me as I spent more than an hour going back and forth trying to select plants. Also, unlike Home Depot and your other big box stores, they only supply plants that suitable for our climate which increases their chance of survivability! read more

First time here and they have a Apple Festival going on. So much fun. They have amazing water features and trees. There staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. When my husband and I left a planning meeting with CJ Sanders at Creative Gardens, we knew immediately that CJ had just created our perfect backyard design. Just last week that design came to life and is everything we wanted and more. CJ and his mother Lorrie, owners and fourth generation landscapers in Reno, possess a great deal of experience and professionalism and made sure that our project met our expectations. The work crew was outstanding, showing a great work ethic and constantly checking in with us to make sure we were happy with the progress of the project.
