I went in there to have my bangs trimmed. I was glad that they could accommodate me without an appointment. I was very clear that since my hair is wavy, I did not need much taken off. Thank you to the previous posters for your postings. They really helped me see what happened to me at this salon as not an isolated incident. I echo the earlier comments regarding the incredibly rude desk staff as well as the 'gang up on the customer' mentality that I am pretty sure is not part of appropriate customer service. My bad experience included being ignored and very rudely treated and given a cut far outside the bounds of what I requested and then having the staff be unwilling to be responsible for their work. If you want the details, here is the story: I came in with long hair (below mid back) and asked for a shoulder length cut. I left with a bob ending below where my head meets my neck. A very short angled bob. When I went home and saw how incredibly short it was I was upset. So I went back to the salon, explained my case, and requested a refund. The woman at the desk was rude and dismissive and tried to make it my fault. She said she didn't have the authority to refund my money. I asked to speak to the manager. She said she was the manager and not to bother to ask for the owner because the owner was her mother. I said 'uhhh...?' She then said the owner was out of town until next week. She certainly didn't offer to take my name and tell the owner and then get back to me or have the owner call me etc. That would have been appropriate under the circumstances. She tried to convince me I was insane before calling in the rest of the staff. She called my stylist over who was actually understanding and took responsibility, remembering that I did say shoulder length. (During the cut I even said "You are going too short" and was assured that the stylist knew what I wanted in terms of length and that it was just one layer being cut, etc. ) I thought since my stylist was understanding and took responsibility, that this would be all cleared up. Then another ornery staff member with an attitude came over and wanted me to reexplain my case. I said "Is this necessary? I already explained it to 2 people including the manager". She said "No, I am the manager" I said "That woman over there told me she was the manager" She said "OK, well, I am the owner" I said, "That other woman told me that the owner was out of town until next week. This is ridiculous." She said 'Get out of my salon.' The she made some personal attacks directed toward me and suggested that because she was pregnant I should be ashamed to be pursuing this matter. (Deceased First and Second Wave feminists all collectively rolled over in their graves.) She was seeking to escalate the matter inappropriately. I was totally shocked. It was insane. She said I was rude for complaining at the front desk (where was I supposed to go?). Ummmm? My stylist took me aside and assured me that I would get my money back when the owner came back and apologized for the way the staff was treating me. I was really shaken up, but felt better after speaking with my stylist and was about ready to leave when the original woman came and asked for my credit card and gave me a refund. I'm not sure how she suddenly got the authority to do this when before she didn't have it. Curious. Perhaps the owner/manager/other manager/joint owner/share holder expanded her authority momentarily? Questionable. The whole interaction smacked of dishonesty and manipulation. Not to mention being borderline abusive. If you do happen to get a smile, don't be fooled. If you actually need them to back up their 'hospitality' with action you will be sorely disappointed. I have never been 100% happy after leaving a haircut or coloring and unfortunately I'm one of those people who lives by their hair. A few months ago I had my hair bleached to achieve a lighter brown (I have dark brown hair) at another Park Slope salon, but I ended up blonde and was horrified. I tried dying it darker with boxed dye, but the color wouldn't hold and my hair became very damaged and dull. When I came to Creative Spa I didn't even have a hair appointment, just a free color consultation. The owner and master stylist Bibe asked me what I wanted because I could get my hair colored immediately. She was kind, honest, and showed me some of the swatches, explaining which would be best to get a shiny, darker color with natural looking highlights. Though I was also a little skeptical about this place because they had an opening for me without an appointment, so how great could this place be? Most Park Slope salons I've been to are completely booked if you just walked in with no appointment. The whole process to color here was fast and efficient. I didn't wait between coloring and rinsing for a second. My hair came out exactly what I wanted-shinier, darker with a hint of red, and very close to my original color. Have never been more happy leaving a hair salon! I think I can finally trust someone in the hair industry. Definitely coming back for future coloring and possibly cuts. read more

So my first visit was just to get highlights and a haircut. My hair is naturally pretty dark (if you know anything about color, my natural level is about a 3) and I've been highlighting my hair to about a level 8 or 9 for the past few years. This visit was to get my highlights retouched after not getting my color done for about 3 months so my regrowth was pretty out of control. She suggested adding lowlights just to bring my natural color through so my regrowth wouldn't be as dramatic if I let it get out of control again. We agreed that it would be my natural level but more vibrant since my natural color is ash and ugly. Our consultation was pretty good and detailed. I explained how I wear my hair on a daily basis, how I like the placement of my highlights and I specifically said I hate chunky. I also told her my hair doesn't lift well and I always need a toner. She said we would see what it looks like after then she would decide if I needed a toner since I was already going to be paying extra for the lowlights which I appreciated her not trying to sell me something that may not be needed. After she was done, I could see my color was much darker but the lighting is so bad in that salon after the sun goes down so I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home. My hair was pretty much black with chunky brassy highlights. So trashy! The placement and the size of highlights were not what we discussed and the amount of lowlights completely changed the color of my hair. I went from blonde to dark brown. Needless to say I was not happy. I called the next day to get an appointment but I had to wait a week until I could come back in to get the color fixed. When I got there she pretty much said there was nothing she could do except put a toner on to help with the brassy highlights. I was nearly in tears when I was told that she took all the blonde out of my hair and I was stuck that way. In the end after doing some at home care my hair lightened up a little bit and to be honest, the darker hair has grown on me. It's much healthier and more natural so she did me a favor in the long run. Sometimes accidents work out for the best. I won't go into details but the haircut was not the best. When I went in the get the color fixed I asked her to go over the cut because I felt like it wasn't falling right and she insisted it was fine. She said since I hated the color then I probably just felt like the haircut wasn't right. I had to go somewhere else to get a trim about 3 weeks later because the way it was growing out was horrible. I will say she offered for me to wait a week (which would be two weeks since my first appointment) then come back if I still wasn't happy with the cut but I didn't feel comfortable at that point. After thinking about it I decided to go somewhere else. Reason being had nothing to do with the stylist specifically or her talents but because I thought it was unfair that I was coming in for a color correction and they booked her with two other clients at the same time. Why would you triple book a stylist when one of her clients is coming in for a color correction?? It made me feel like I wasn't important. In my opinion, a one on one experience between a stylist and a new client is very important to build a relationship. Maybe she's busy enough and doesn't need new clients.... read more

I've been going to Creative for about 13 or so years - even when they were on the other side of 9th street! Overall, its a great place for a simple cut, blow out, mani or even massage. Its no frills but super clean everyone is pretty nice. It almost feels like it should belong in another neighborhood in Brooklyn but I would hate if it left Park Slope. Sonata is great - I am very picky about my hair and have no concerns about her cutting or blowing it out. She wants to make sure everyone is happy when they walk out and that's such a relief and nice change from other stylists I have had in Park Slope. Prices are wonderful! read more

My last visit to Creative Hair Stylist in Park Slope, Brooklyn was not a good one. I Had really long hair and just wanted a trim. I made it clear to Stephen that I just wanted a trim, just an inch. I think he pretty much ruined my hair by cutting it a bit too short with too many layers for my liking. Best hair stylist hands down is Stephen !!! He's Amazing in every sense of the word ! I went to creative back in November to get a new look. I had read great things about him through yelp so I decided to give him a shot. When I walked in creative My hair was a mixture of highlights gone wrong, cheap box product dyes, & grey hairs :( I told Stephen what I wanted and envisioned. He took that and ran with it. He walked me though the whole process and explained step by step. Change is never easy especially when going from jet black to a honey color. We discussed that we would lift the black, dye lighten it brown, do some ombré, highlights & layers for volume. He was excited and I trusted him completely. He was honest about what would work and what wouldn't. When I saw the finishing product I was blown away. I loved it, my co workers fell in love with my hair, and most importantly the fiancé loved it. He also taught me how to do a few different curls in my hair when I told him I was having difficulty achieving them. My new hair opened up a whole new world of confidence for me. Walking down Lexington avenue on my way to work I feel like a super star ! Fast forward 8 weeks later I came to get a touch up and Stephen was just as remarkable as the last time. Everyone was very nice, but the salon didn't have a single cosmetic that matched my skin tone. I booked a makeup appointment a week in advance for an afternoon event. When I arrived for my appointment, I was told that most of the salon's makeup had been taken to wedding event. The makeup artist was asking to borrow personal cosmetics from other stylists. Makeup artist applied very very heavy eye makeup (gold and dark brown), which I asked her to tone down-- she proceeded to roughly remove it with a bath towel covered in lotion. The area around my eyes was scratched, red and swollen for the rest of the day. I ended up walking out of the appointment to do my own makeup and was late for the event. Lina was the girl who helped me that first time and have been going to her for the last 2 years! She is very personable and always has a smile on her face but best of all is the quality of her work! I've gone here a few times for waxing. They are fast and efficient and rarely keep you waiting. I prefer working with Lena because she is thorough and will go over the area with tweezers to make sure she didn't miss any. I have found the other technicians aren't as careful- but they are still good in a pinch if you need a last minute appt. I keep meaning to get a facial with Lena as I trust her to take good care of my skin- I just haven't gotten around to it yet. WIll post more when I do! read more

Typically in New York you deal with haughty hair stylists who charge too much, berate you for your lack of hair care, cut too much off, and take themselves too seriously. If you can get Steven he will see exactly what needs to be done and give you a simple cut (as I ordered) making sure not to take too much off and to keep the integrity of the cut. His work is very fast and skilled and I left feeling for the first time in New York that I paid for what I got! read more

I've seen Senada B ( alittle heavy with thin blonde hair ) for the first time and she did highlights and a cut on my hair and the cut was uneven. I liked the highlights in the beginning but after a few weeks I noticed that my hair felt damaged and didn't hold up the same because it was over processed and now my hair will never be the same. I was upset but I never complained because I wanted to try them one more time but not her again ! So a friend of mine recommended me to the other Senada V and I made an appointment with her for a haircut and she was so awesome. I have been going to Creative since the 80's. It was so amazing and somehow, it has gotten worst. I called on Friday just to confirm what I would pay for a trim and mentioned that I have been paying $35 for my haircuts, no blows. They said that I would be paying that. I go in on Tuesday and got a trim. I informed the stylist that I didn't want to dry my hair nor any other treatment. He rushed me over to the dryers for five minutes because he was in a rush and very hungry. I went back to the chair where he proceeded to put a braid and that was that... a braid and sent me on my "merry" way. As he left to lunch, he gave the girl a red ticket. I paid $50 bucks... for what? I looked terrible. I didn't have time to question them as I was running late for an event and there were others waiting to pay. I called back the next day, and the receptionist tells me she is sorry but the prices have gone up and perhaps I can come back next week and speak to the stylist about the services. Friends and relatives agreed that their services are not up to par. I have been coming here for over 30 years. WOW. read more

It always amazes me how he gives me a good cut, knows my color and makes recommendations based on my commitment to the cut, type of hair, and my busy lifestyle. He does not push products, or services and you never feel like he is pushing you. When you speak to him he will be honest about products both in the salon and ones for home use, and he provides up to date information on styles, trends, etc as well as innovations in the beauty/hair care industry and has a wealth of knowledge and experience that will impress you. The Spa is very clean, and everyone is so attentive and caring. I recommend the Spa for all phases of beauty care/treatment and especially Mr. Bermudez. I am extremely disgusted and disappointed with your spa. I purchased a $30 gift certificate for my mother recently. I said to woman at the desk that my mother may want to get a mani/pedi with this. She said ok well some days it is $25 dollars and some days its $30. I said okay so I will take a 30 dollar gift certificate so I do not limit her to a certain day. I asked the woman if my mother chooses not to use this towards a mani/pedi she will have a $30 dollar balance to use at the spa in whatever way she chooses correct? The woman agreed and said yes of course. I explained this all to my mother when giving her the gift. When my mother chose to use it for a mani/pedi it was on a special day so the cost was $25. My mother explained that the gift card was for $30 so she should have a $5 dollar balance left at the spa. Your spa could not and would not understand that in fact my mother was and is correct. Any reputable salon would have given her a $5 balance. I purchased a $30 card and because your service happened to cost 25 on the day my mother used it, you think you could just pocket the extra $5 that I paid you. No wonder you call it a special its a special for the spa, not the client. You should be ashamed of you salon and your practices. I can't imagine how many other people you have scammed along the way. The sadest part is the my family has used your salon for years, way before you ever turned into a so called spa. We got our hair done in 2000 for my brother's wedding. My sister and I used to get our haircut with you during the 1990's when you were located across the street. What is unfortunate for you is that your scam just cost you business with my whole bridal party and myself. We were all going to get our hair and makeup done there and believe me you can forget that. I went to get my hir done and i was so exciteded since last time I went my hair came out amazing. I decided to go back and do an ombre again. I will never come back to creative hair. My hair looked nothing like the picture I showed the stylist. The lady who washed my hair was rough. I was also charged $200 for something that i couldnt even see. I hate being rude so i just left it as that. When the stylist asked a few ladys at a corner for the price of my hair I thought they were going to be nice and check if i liked my hair but they just stared and said $200. If these people were real professionals they would have noticed that nothing was done with my hair. Now my hair looks so ugly. I will be traveling to get my hair fixed by an expert. These people are so unprofessional and they charge very expensive. They either need to get new stylist or close this location down! DO NOT COME HERE. This place isnt as good as it once was. Never will i come here and i am 100% sure never to recommend anyone here.
