I spent a long day tooling around the Laurel Highlands and wanted to get back to Pittsburgh before dark. However, since I was touring a few Frank Lloyd Wright houses, I had not eaten since my early morning continental breakfast at the Comfort Inn in Connellsville. Mindlessly following the Google Maps directions, I arrived in a town called Indian Head and didn't have any expectations about what I'd find in this family-friendly roadside diner. Without hesitation, I ordered the $13.99 Grilled Chicken Salad. I was quite impressed with what arrived. There were huge pieces of grilled chicken breast, tender and moist, with cucumber, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onions, beets, shredded cheddar, and a pickled egg with ranch dressing on the side (Photo 9). Sounds basic, I know, but it was hearty, fresh, and genuinely satisfying. Midway through my salad, a plate of fries arrived (Photo 10). I wasn't expecting it, but the server apologized for the delay. I only noticed later that the fries were mentioned in the menu. I certainly didn't mind because they were hot, tasty, and not at all greasy. Even though I was getting full and kinda anxious to get going, I was rather hypnotized by the refrigerator of freshly made pies. I just couldn't help myself and ordered a $4.29 slice of Banana Meringue Pie (Photo 8). I don't think I've had homemade pie that good since gorging at Valois back in my olden grad school days in the South Side of Chicago. What a nice surprise to have such a delicious square meal in a place called Indian Head. Stopped in on a Monday. The wait staff was warm and welcoming. Food service (take out) was fast. I wanted to try to keep up my healthy eating streak and most other(few open) places were run of the mill fast food. Shops seem to Cater to Tourist, open on Wednesday and Closer to the weekend. This spot Was open and I was able to get a yummy salad, but I also had to Try that yummy tiramisu berry cake! read more

Adorable country style diner with warm and friendly service situated quaintly on the side of a creek. Similar to many other patrons, we stopped in after a chilly visit to Fallingwaters. The server was very helpful in assisting with navigating our dietary restrictions. Ambiance was country cute. Here is a rundown of the dishes we ordered. Philly Cheesesteak Hoagie - very little meat with a slice of provolone thrown on it. Country fried steak - steak and gravy were good. I ordered a baked potato which came naked and underbaked. Pancakes - Delish! Kids Mac and cheese - not worth it at over $6 without a single side or beverage included. Burger - generous portion and was enjoyed. Such a cute place! Great place to stop before or after visiting Falling Waters. Very friendly service and good food. My husband loved his burger. It really tasted fresh, and not like a frozen patty. And the fries definitely add from fresh potatoes. My BLT was delicious. I asked for it on rye, and it was a great combo. The beef barley soup was outstanding. Just popped in for lunch (thank you, Yelpers!) on the way to Fallingwater. Our server was super friendly and helpful. We needed a quick lunch. She recommended the BLT (which I had) it any of the hot sandwiches (hubby opted for the Reuben). They came out super quick from the kitchen. Mine was chock full of bacon, with crisp lettuce, mayo, & tom. I enjoyed mine. Hubs' Reuben was good - the corn beef flavorful - tho he wasn't wowed by the kraut and thought the toasted bread had too much butter on it. That said - it was good! We both had coleslaw with ours (thought fries would take too long). The place is 'country cute' - signs proclaiming: "Arrive a stranger, leave a friend." Stuff like that. Country music piping out. It's such a great little restaurant, a good place to stop when you're driving through the mountains, I've only been there for lunch with a few friends, it's one of the places we can all agree on when we get together for lunch. After a weekend of wrestling with bears after stealing my food and playing poker with some coyotes I met at Ohiopyle, I decided to restore my energy by grabbing a bite to eat at Creek Side Grill. There is nothing normal about Normalville. The atmosphere, for instance, reminded me of a truck stop that I worked at back in Intercourse, and even the plates were the same. The Buffalo Chicken Wrap was average at best, but the coleslaw kicked some tail. My party of seven was quite pleased with their choices. The server was on point, too. I will be back -- once I finally get out of debt after one of the coyotes came at me with a royal flush. read more

We eat breakfast here once or twice a month because of the nearby Indian Creek Valley hiking trail. We always get the Creekside Scrambler which is very good. Can't judge the rest of the menu. A yummy meal after stopping at Fallingwaters! It was a cold day so the cup of soup was perfection. They had broccoli cheddar and beef noodle and both hit the spot. Standard food, standard prices. The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable. It is a pleasant along-the-route stop for sure.

Food was excellent. When we got there all the tables needed bussing and we had to sit down at a table full of dirty dishes. We had to wait quite a long time before we're waited on and the table was cleared. Once that happened we had good service and wonderful food. Excellent chili and pretzel logs. If you are looking for a tasty hot meal like grandma used to make, here is your place. It has all the traditional diner food you would expect to find at your typical roadside diner. Daily specials are up on the board with a soup selection. I had good old fashioned Salisbury Steak smothered in gravy. I pretty much inhaled it in a few minutes. The food is fantastic but as for the service, I can't say the same. there is one waitress with dark hair that is completely and utterly rude. She threw silverware down.
