There are two areas to eat - the more formal dining rooms or the laid back pub area. We chose a booth in the bar area and the bartender was our server. He was great and helped us with our choices! The espresso martini was on point. We both loved the shrimp appetizer - I'd get that again. I got the Stone House salad and the server did explain that it was served Pittsburgh style, with French fries on top. I appreciated him ensuring I was OK with that. I've ate here a few times and it has been absolutely amazing every time. The mediocre rating shocked me. This is the best restaurant around this Laurel Highlands region IMO. I always get the chicken milanese and it's perfect. Their house made salad dressings are also great, I usually get the red wine and parm vinaigrette. Bar drinks and service have also been stellar. Fantastic food, excellent service, historic ambiance. Had early dinner here on Saturday around 5ish. Since we didn't have a reservation, we had to sit in the tavern section, which worked out perfectly. It's a little darker and more casual. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was really, really good. They give you a bread basket, and the oil/balsamic dipping sauce is my new obsession. Partner had a NY strip with shrimp, mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley - all seasoned and cooked perfectly. I had the meatball sub, which was one of the best I've ever had. Meatballs were perfectly seasoned and tender, good sauce, good bread, could have used a bit more cheese, but I think that about everything. Good beer selection. Can't wait to go again. read more

We came here after rafting with White Water Adventures at Ohiopyle. We had a group of 18 and were celebrating for my brother's bachelor party. The service was outstanding. Our server really took care of us, even though he was mostly by himself and we had a huge group. We started out with drinks. The group ordered a mix of beers and several of us ordered Old Fashioneds. I personally, had the blueberry Old Fashioned. It was fantastic. On to food. The menu is a nice mix. You can get a sandwich or burger for around $15-20 or a nice steak for up to $50. I did not love my meal, but this is mostly on me. I ordered Seafood Pasta. It was fine, but it was drowning in butter. My wife and I have recently moved to the Morgantown area. After months of exploring the city and the surrounding area, we've found no restaurants that rate better than a 6 or 7 out of 10. Today that changed. While we were out in the Laurel Highlands, we stumbled across the Stone House restaurant and loved it. First, the food was terrific. Generous portions and super well put together. We got the Chicken Marsala and a Greek Salad for dinner and the blackened shrimp for an appetizer. They were all among some of the best food I've ever had anywhere. The service was also excellent. Our waitress couldn't have been kinder and more helpful the whole evening. Finally, the ambiance was legit--straight out of the 1820s when the restaurant was founded as a way-station for folks moving west. Highly recommend. Will definitely go back. read more

The inside is decorated delightfully- they should put the same effort into the food. My husband described the chicken Caesar salad as "wet & salty" and the chicken was definitely microwaved. When the waitress came over & saw our uneaten plates and his water glass empty " I know the salad is salty"???? She knew that when we ordered??? WHAT???? The restaurant is located in a beautifully restored 18th-century stone house and inn and the atmosphere is very warm and inviting. The historic setting of the restaurant is charming and unique. Went for dinner last night 9-27-25 around 6:30. We sat in the bar area in a booth, and waited, and waited, and waited for the bartender/server to take our order. We placed our drink and food order all at once. Drinks arrived eventually, and shortly after that our burgers arrived, which is odd since the appetizers we ordered had not arrived yet. It seems our appetizers completely forgotten by our server, who never came back to the table after dropping off the drinks, not to check if there were good, or another drink, coffee or dessert, nothing... The burgers were delivered by a food runner. The burgers were mediocre at best, toppings were incorrect, but the fries were good but anyone can make the frozen generic crispy coated fries.... We had to leave the table and go to the bar in order to get the bill (bar area was only 1/3 full). Luckily the appetizers were not on the bill, but both burgers were up charged for bacon when only one had bacon on it. Poor service, and mediocre food, we will try another place next trip! read more

This tavern has been in existence since 1822 , so if that isn't enough reason to go there - the food is . All was of very high quality .... Favorites were the pork belly salad , the risotto underneath the crab cake entree (the cakes were good but not enough crab in my opinion) and the steak hoagie . We got served our food right away (thankfully because we were starving after a long day of sight seeing ) but after that , the service slowed down because of a 20 person party that was seated . Also , she processed our card for the wrong bill, which lead to some confusion - the server apologized and fixed the problem. What a historic, beautiful location with unique and delicious menu options! This is such a rare find; it's one of the remaining gorgeous Inns built on The National Road. The Restaurant offers a vast menu with wings, salads, steak, BBQ, sandwiches, and more. The meatloaf was a great choice - tender meat, delicious whipped potatoes, crisp green beans. It was perfect. Such a cool place! It's actually celebrating its 200th year! We were greeted by Tiffany - a spritely, energetic, and kind bartender - who got us our drinks in a jiffy. Based off of her recommendation, we ordered the meatballs. Shortly thereafter, what I expected (4 quaint meatballs in a dish, basically two bites for each of us) was presented as three gigantic, baseball-sized delights, swimming in the perfect amount of sauce and topped with just the right bit of Parmesan. Delicious. We could only eat two of the three, as we planned to eat dinner. We sat for a bit after that, digesting necessarily. After a while, we placed orders for the Black and Blue NY Strip and the house steak salad. I should have taken pictures, but sometimes my excitement to indulge takes over. The Butcher Shop is next door, and it was evident that these steaks were the right stuff! I had to pack the majority of my salad to-go because the meatballs won that night, but my husband made his best effort to finish his steak, not wanting to leave any bit uneaten. We have checked in on a Saturday night at 7:00 pm and were asked to wait for a table. After 10-15 minutes of waiting, we were seated. As we reviewed the menu, we waited for the server to stop by. Stonehouse catering was absolutely wonderful! They catered our wedding at Fernstone Retreat and everyone loved the food (everyone still talks about it!) We did our tasting at the restaurant with Christine Schaney and Chef B- all the choices were so delicious that we had a difficult time choosing our entrees. As a result, we ended up choosing 5 entrees and we definitely did NOT regret it! Christine Schaney was amazing to work with during the whole planning process, she goes above and beyond and she's definitely a woman of her word. Planning a wedding can be stressful, but she definitely has the experience in this industry and gives THE BEST advice. She played a HUGE part in making our wedding day absolutely PERFECT. We stayed overnight here in one of their more modern rooms with a jacuzzi and had dinner in the restaurant. This was the start of a traveling weekend for us. And it started out great! If you prefer the Marriott or the service at Ruth's Chris, you should probably stay home. But for those of you that enjoy a unique experience, aren't troubled by everyone being super friendly and want some good food.. I'm sure you will be welcomed properly as we were! We had the NY Strip and the BBQ Mustard Pork Chop, loaded whipped potatoes (massive serving and Oh So Good!), Broccoli and Green Beans. We also had the Wedge Salad and Creme Brûlée Cheesecake for dessert with coffee. My husband said the steak was very well prepared (and he's a steak snob). I had the pork chop which was wonderful and the homemade BBQ Mustard it was topped with made me want to lick the plate! As for the room for our stay.. small but good for one night. The jacuzzi was a nice end to the night with the bottle of wine they had prepared on our room when we arrived. I would come back for sure!! I held a group dinner here and they let us have the room to the left as you walk in. It was a Thursday night and we had the entire room to ourselves. The service was professional, quick and courteous. I had the chicken and dumplings, which were probably the best I've ever had. It was huge (see pic) and was seasoned perfectly. If I hadn't been traveling on business, I would've taken the rest home. Others who had the lasagna and steak also loved their choices. Desserts were also well done. It's hard to get a reservation on the weekends, whether it be for individuals or groups. It's also a B&B so you can actually stay in one of the four rooms upstairs. At any rate, we ordered a couple of drinks- compared old war stories and tap danced around something that has been hinted but never tackled. I ordered a steak with a topping, baked potato and a vegetable. The steak was properly prepared, everything was taken care of despite our arrival at a later time. Their menu is kind of interesting, written like an old newspaper, which took a moment for me to sift through. They also do barbecue. This place also has plenty of dining space, the banquet room as I mentioned, and a variety of cuisines to choose from. Usually on my way through en route to Monroeville and Pittsburgh, I see they have bike weekends with bands and entertainment. We were so excited to go here after all the time we have passed it and would see how many cars were out front. The specials that evening sounded great too and we had them picked before we arrived. We went for our anniversary and though your hostesses were wonderful to us and our son while we waited, the rest of our experience was less than mediocre. I had a beer and my husband a mixed drink. It was a whiskey bourbon stout type, I forget the exact name, but when I got to the last few sips, there were large chunks in it. My husband had told our waitress and she apologized, that's it. This obviously meant the lines hadn't been cleaned in some time. Then the dinner. Luckily my steak dinner was large enough for two because my husband's meal wasn't edible. He ordered the monk fish special with the risotto. The fish itself was spoiled. I offered to switch my husband meals thinking it was just him. When I tried the fish, I almost spit it out. It was so fishy and awful. The risotto was hard and not good either, which I'm curious why have it on the menu if your chefs aren't willing to make it properly? Among all of this, the manager has passed us when she was asking tables how their meals were since our waitress took ours away already making me believe she thought we hadn't been served yet. I wish I took the chance to stop her to explain what we experienced because I'm sure this isn't everyone's experience. I wish it went different, but we won't be back. My friends and I were torn on where to go after graduation so we decided to give this place a try. We reserved a table for 7 pm without any issue the day before, but we ended up having to wait about 30 minutes before we were seated. This indicated to us that they were too busy to properly accommodate us along with everyone else that night. After we were seated we thought we would be served properly and that our wait was worthwhile, but we were fooled. Between us we ordered a few ribeyes only one of which was supposed to be medium while the others were ordered medium-rare. Mine was clearly overcooked while I noticed that some were under cooked, so very inconsistent. Also, our meals were to come with a salad and breadsticks which we basically had to ask for at the END of our meal. It took quite a while to get a refill of water too, of which I only got one. The only redeeming quality of the food is that the place has their own butcher, but the meat falls short when it reaches their kitchen when it isn't prepared as ordered. For as much as you pay for a ribeye here, you surely don't expect any mishaps. My recommendation is to raise the standard or lower the price. Furthermore, after all was said and done the waitress offered us breadsticks due to the hectic evening as an appeasement. She then explained her position, and apologized for the mishaps which was appreciated. The other staff members seemed to be spread thin as well. I believe this place has a management problem that has never been addressed and has gone under the radar. Either my friends and I were unlucky that night or everyone with a 4 or 5 star review was very lucky. Lastly, I'm writing this because I actually want to see this place improve. I was here previously a few years back and it was questionable, but not nearly as bad. My friends and I were comparatively patient with the staff here, but we all agreed that the experience we had was unacceptable for the prices. My advice to anyone considering going here is: Go to a chain first because your experience there would be more predictable. If you prefer to eat local, there are plenty of options, but this place has to seriously improve for me to return. read more
