A beautiful historic inn and restaurant situated on the river. We were in town 3 nights and ate here twice. The first night inside which is some really nice period rooms. The second night we at on the veranda overlooking the river. In good weather I say sit here it's just a nice flowing river with some nice trees and landscaping. The service in day one was c + but out sever in day 2 was a a+. The food is quite good. I had the pork chops in day 1 and the ravioli on day 2. Both are very good but I loved the chips. My wife had the Mahi topped with mango. Great dish. All dishes come with a really good salad, bread and butter and two sides for the chops and fish. Back again, nine years after our first time through. As before, wonderful meal, great service and soooo reasonable. Highly recommended.

It's only so-so. In terms of ambiance, it's a home run. You can eat outside on the large veranda and have stunning views of the river and the beautifully landscaped gardens. The inside of the building is equally beautiful. The service leaves something to be desired. It felt like a bunch of angry women who either didn't want to be there, or who thought they were better than everyone, if that makes sense. The ones you want to pull aside and say, "Lose the attitude. You're a server, not a CEO." Somewhat slow to refill glasses and bring things like silverware, and such. Now, the biggest disappointment was the food. Given the way the place looked, I expected great food. The side salad was excellent. Appetizing and visually appealing. But then it went quickly downhill with my club sandwich. Instead of fresh meats, it felt like I was served welfare meat. Look at my picture. Disgusting "round" ham. Fresh cooked and natural ham does not look like this and isn't round. This round ham looks like a compressed, reconstituted ham shaped into a roll. Very fatty. And it had an odd taste that was overpowering and ruined the club. It was really inedible and I had to pick it off but the taste permeated the sandwich. Low grade mayonnaise. Chips were soggy. We had a really nice dinner here while staying near Ohiopyle for summer vacation. They are busy on weekends, so the four of us couldn't manage to get a coveted seat on the narrow veranda with short notice on a Friday night. While we couldn't watch the river while we ate, the interior design was historic and cute, and we had plenty of river watching in the garden while waiting for our table to be ready. There is parking on site, or walk over from your digs if you're spending the night while on the GAP trail. The menu is long and enticing, and everything we ordered--steak, porkchop, fish, pasta--was delicious! Service was friendly but rather slow, however (probably short staffed like everywhere else). I was disappointed that the import shop from India is only open during the day on weekends, as we were hoping to browse while waiting. read more

First, the atmosphere was very nice. It was a pleasant time sitting outside. There was a special relaxing feeling with the shade and slight breeze. That is the plus. Two dishes were sampled. CONFLUENCE CHICKEN ($14): A grilled chicken topped with avocado, onions, artichokes, and cheese. It was lacking. A sauce could have been added for flavor. It was a bit bland and disappointing. (3/5) YOURS BLUELY ($15): Grilled chicken, bbq sauce, bacon, onion, and gorgonzola. Again, a disappointment. It just wasn't worth eating. (2/5) They provided what appears to be homemade chips which I wanted to enjoy but some of the chips lacked crunch. Soggy. No one in the party enjoyed this. COLESLAW ($3): This side was just bad. I am not certain what they were going for but it was bad. (0/5) I tried the "white" sangria ($9) to see what it was like. Disappointment again. I was on full regret when I saw the anemic strawberries that apparently were frozen. I believe there were masticated peaches and blackberries. Definitely not worth my money or effort in drinking. (1/5) For the desserts, I sampled two of which one I do not recall the name. It was a chocolate cake with a mousse-like middle and a fudgy icing. Overall, it was okay. Nothing to write home about unless you enjoy chocolate. (3/5) This next cake hit it out of the park. LEMON BERRY MASCARPONE CAKE: This fruity cake was definitely worth trying. This is a two layer cake with a mascarpone center and a powdered sugar dusting on top. Everyone in the party raved about this. Definitely, the best of what we ordered. The other dishes ordered were on the okay to good, but I didn't try any of those. My overall take is this place is grossly overpriced and could improve on some of the dishes. A little tweaking with the Confluence Chicken can make this a great sandwich. The Yours Bluely needs work. If you're going to charge me $9 for sangria then by all means don't give me what I got. Chips are easy to make and there is not reason for them to be soggy. Scrap the coleslaw and redo that. What I would come for is the lemon berry mascarpone cake. You're feeding bicyclists, so appreciate them. I am not going to come for the atmosphere, and the food may be excellent for Confluence and Ursina, but I find it disappointing but hope tweaks can be made. read more

Very happy to find a good restaurant in this small town that has very limited dining options. It's located as the name implies on a lovely clear river that is popular with fly fishers. The house has a winding porch from which you can dine while observing the river. There's a gorgeous garden all around the house. Service good and prices reasonable. Full bar/wine list. Full menu. Good appetizers. We had a hummus platter first. Husband had a Mediterranean chicken dish which was nicely grilled and I had trout stuffed with spinach. The fish was slightly overcooked but I find that is frequently the case in eating out unless it's a seafood restaurant. We didn't have a reservation but just walked in. Service poor. Received drinks 20 minutes after ordering. "Sorry I forgot." Food was sub par. We had 3 meals. Roast beef sandwich which was a special, was extremely dry. Stated "they don't serve it with anything." Meat. We added cheese. Chicken wrap was adequate. Sweet potato fries were the best part of the meal. 3rd item was a chicken salad. Lettuce. Blue cheese. Stopped here for a Sunday evening dinner after a short drive on 219. Smaller area with access to rivers and trails etc. in a smaller area called Confluence. There are several localized shops and restaurants in the area- and this place is located in an older farmer style house surrounded by plants and gardens that runs right up next to the river - hence the name. We made a reservation and upon entry were seated on the porch back in the corner. At first I was thinking it might be tough with bugs and heat - but I wasn't bad at all. Plus the views were very nice. Ordered a rum and diet and came with a water and it's sprig of mint. My main issue was our waitress. Upon ordering our beverages, one of us was carded, then I asked if I needed to be carded and was immediately met with a cold no. Drinks were hardly refilled - and our waitress I think was bothered with us helping pay her paycheck. We decided on the smoked Gouda which had sun dried tomatoes in it (now I know where the heart burn originated). It was decent enough- I thought it would be melted like a crab dip- but it was more like a cheese ball. For the entree I settled on grilled salmon which came with a dill sauce and an order of steamed spinach. Unfortunately, I didn't turn into Popeye. The salmon was a bit overdone but the dill sauce was good and overall it was a good pick. I didn't get to try any of their bread which appeared to be homemade and warm- maybe when I'm off this stupid regiment. Overall we spent $75, to which I am not sure the value is there. The view is spectacular and you can walk to the river 's edge and watch the fish go by. Great place to bring your out of town guests . The owner is extremely helpful and makes you feel like home. River's Edge is the PERFECT dinner experience. We love to sit on the porch of this quaint old house and enjoy the picturesque view. Even though the staff was clearly busy and harried this evening, everyone who interacted with us was calm, pleasant, and unhurried. We've always had great service here. Kudos also for the staff's attention to timing. Most restaurants these days don't know that it's appetizer, then salad, then entree ... in that order, not overlapping, and not all at once. But River's Edge does it perfectly. The food is amazing! I always overeat because everything is so delicious. Tonight, we enjoyed the smoked gouda appetizer along with the catfish and orange roughy dinners. Phenomenal! You won't have room for dessert, but order it anyhow ... even if it's to-go for later! Our personal favorite is the Italian lemon cake. I'm not generally a big fan of cake, but it's so light and airy with a sweet creamy mascarpone filling. Sooo good! We were in Confluence just one day. My son and I came to eat here twice, first for lunch, then dinner. We came back here for dinner because my husband who didn't join us at lunch wanted to eat here. Otherwise, to be honest, I would've not. At lunch, it took a long time for a waitress to show up and took our order, even though the restaurant was not too busy. I ordered River's Edge special salad. When the salad arrived, I noticed there were not strawberries. I thought maybe they were out. I was hungry, I did not want to wait another few minutes for me to ask about the strawberries. Later on, after I finished more than half of my salad, our waitress came back and asked me "How's your salad?" . I said it was "fine", and she jumped and said "Oh, that's good". And then said in lower voice, "Because I bought you the wrong salad". She did not offer to swap it out or to make it up. I was recently in another restaurant where they brought us the wrong kinda of fries, we didn't realize it, but our waitress brought us the right garlic truffle fries and told us she made a mistake. But none of that happened here. The slow waitress, the wrong salad, and the fact that she sounded like she wanted to hide this from the restaurant manager, did not give me a good experience. At dinner, a different waitress waited on us and it was a better experience. The location of this restaurant, though, next to the Yough river, was absolutely beautiful. read more

I had to put salt on 4 times to get any flavor out of this meal and my wife had to do the same. Downgrading my review. I abhor poor service as it taints the entire experience. I've enjoyed dining here before on bike rides along the GAP, but not on this occasion. Service today was inexcusably slow from the moment we sat down outside. And when it was time for the check, our server was nowhere to be found. We hadn't seen her for a good while before then and now had severe trouble tracking her down. I asked another server, then after several minutes, I asked the hostess, then after several more minutes, another in our party went inside to track her down. Ya know, most of the patrons are cyclists and a leisurely meal is not usually in the cards. THIS dining experience was out of the norm even for the leisurely bunch who might have time to kill. So, management, we'll most likely take our business elsewhere when we return to Confluence after cycling next time. Poor service is not rewarded. read more

The best part of this restaurant is its location right on the banks of the river. This makes for a lovely setting. Our food was OK, but certainly nothing to rave about. I had the trout stuffed with spinach, which was served with mashed sweet potatoes. My husband had the chicken with cucumber sauce. Both entrees were fine but not memorable. The restaurant gets busy, so make a reservation. Very good food with a nice menu variety and specials, both indoor and outdoor seating available. The B&B features a clean cottage attached to the restaurant with 3 locking bedrooms and a shared bath. Just down the street is the Loft, a 2nd floor apartment great for 4 or 5 people. We biked the Ohiopyle trail from Ohiopyle to Confluence and stopped here for lunch. It clearly is a popular spot for other people doing the same thing. We didn't know much about this place but its location beside the river, porch and beautiful perennial flower bed sold us. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. I had a nice Greek salad with a delicious Italian wedding soup (seriously the best I've had in a long time). My husband had an excellent salmon BLT. Service was prompt and attentive and the fresh brewed ice tea served with mint was a nice touch. A few of the homemade potato chips were a tad limp and my saltine crackers were stale but I'm still thinking about that delicious soup. Our family of 6 stayed in the cottage right behind the Cafe. It was perfect for us. Dinners at the River's Edge Cafe were great. The staff friendly and attentive, the food tasty and plentiful. After dinner, much of the evenings were spent on the back porch taking in the river with a glass of wine and watching ducks and bunnies on the river's edge. The occasional fisherman would drift by in a kayak. Our eldest had an ear infection (he brought it with him). When Anna Marie and the staff of the River's Edge Cafe found out, the sweetness of this locally staffed operation truly warmed our hearts. Before we knew it, various suggestions and family remedies were offered along with caring wishes to "feel better". We now know two remedies that gave our son relief - heated salt in a clean washcloth held on the ear; and, Vicks in the ear with a cotton ball to keep the air out. Who knew! read more

My son is working at ohiopyle for the summer. We went down to visit and wanted to crab dinner. He had heard of rivers edge and suggested we go. It wasn't what we expected. It's at a bed and breakfast. The porch was packed. We wandered in and were asked if we had reservations. Nope :( They said they would gladly still accommodate us. They'd set a room for 15 and they didn't show up. Out lucky day! The staff here is very professional, knows the menu, and is great with recommendations. The water came with mint and lemon. Not a big thing, but a nice change. We ordered the artichoke and crab dip. It was great. My 19 yo old polished it off. They then brought the bread and salad. I wasn't super hungry so didn't try the bread. But since the kid ate 4 pieces I'm guessing it was good. And the butter was soft and spreadable. Waters were refilled often. I ordered the crab cakes. They were really all crab. Tasted great and presented well. The potatos were cooked soft and tasted great. My son the steak connoisseur tells me his steak was one of the best he'd ever had. My aunt had a salad. I forget the name. Rivers edge salad maybe? Chicken, blueberries. Apple.. my mom had the edge pasta. She said it was delicious. She did take about half home. At this point, things slipped a bit out waitress disappeared. We waited around a good bit. Another server started helping us and offered dessert. Oh my goodness! My mom and aunt shared carrot cake and my son and I shared a bourbon pecan pie . I was stuffed and took two bites it was amazing. Our waitress eventually returned with the check. B&B review: Although the hosts are friendly and beds are comfortable it still lacks a bit. No AC, which in our case was okay, because it was raining and cool. Could not imagine a hot evening. Small common area and unless you take all 3 rooms a little awkward between guests-it is impossible to be quite enough not to disturb others. The 'continental' breakfast was really lacking. Small dried up fruit, muffins left out for us the night before, open containers of milk, juice and cereal. In the new norm, I would have expected individual cartons of milk, juice and individually wrapped snacks. We skipped breakfast. On a good note, the garage to store bikes is really nice and came in handy for us. We started our bike ride from here and returned later in the afternoon, after a lot of miles in a cold rain. The host let us change into dry clothes in the garage. It was nice to have the adjacent restaurant-make reservations if you plan to eat here. read more

My dad, brother and I took a mini-vacation to kayak and hike at Ohiopyle and we stayed at the Loft at River's Edge for a few days. Overall is was a satisfying getaway to enjoy nature and the cafe was a nice location to help take in the surrounding environment while we ate. That is, until we were attacked by a flock of ducks that wanted our uneaten bread crumbs. Just kidding, but there were a bunch of feathered friends waddling around eating the scraps that people threw out to them. The experience was definitely all about atmosphere and presentation. The food itself was not exactly spectacular, somewhat average tasting for how extravagantly prepared it was. I had the River's Edge Chicken which ended up being somewhat bland even garnished with red peppers, artichokes and olives. I opted to pair my dinner with brandy, which I thought would be a treat, but it turned out to be a disappointing brand. I guess I shouldn't complain too much; it's not like the meal was terrible. It was good, but not quite as good as you'd hope, especially when you factor in the cost. I'd definitely stay at River's Edge again, it was a nice place to go back and relax after kayaking and hiking all day, but the food wasn't one of the highlights of the experience. read more

I was misled by Yelp! On a recent trip to the Laurel highlands of PA, my husband and I were looking for good restaurants. We had a reservation at Out of the Fire (which was great!) on Sunday night, but needed a place for Saturday night. I found River's Edge Cafe and saw that it had only 3 reviews, (there are barely any Yelp reviews for this part of PA) but they were glowing! Well... If you consider yourself a bit of a foodie and are looking for contemporary fare, do not eat here. The house was charming, and the view of the Youghiogheny River from the porch was lovely, but blech! The salad was old school iceberg lettuce and mealy tomatoes straight out of the fridge. I had the special - Caribbean mahi mahi - and it was covered with canned mangoes and pineapples and smothered in a "raspberry sauce" that basically tasted like sweet salad dressing. It was served with mashed sweet potatoes (they were the best thing on the plate) and soggy, boiled sugar snap peas. I felt like I stepped back into my grandmother's kitchen in the 80s. My husband's meal was not any better. He got mushy scallops swimming in a "tarragon butter sauce" that looked more like dirty dishwater. It was definitely flat. We also started with a crab dip that was served with ritz crackers.. meh. Too bad about the food, because the place is quite charming. Perhaps come by for a simple salad or soup and a glass of wine at lunch to enjoy the view. Or on second thought, just walk along the river for the view and skip the restaurant altogether. read more

This is a quaint little Bed & Breakfast and restaurant about 20 minutes from Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water. It's on the edge of the Youghiogeny River next to the state park. The restaurant is the ground floor of the house as well as on the wrap-around porch. We got there just in time to sit down outside overlooking the river. It was a beautiful day to enjoy the weather and the view. They have quite an extensive menu with many veggie entrees. We ordered the soup of the day, which was a cold sweet potato and tasted like dessert! Then steamed mussels and a side of spinach, the veggie burger and a button mushroom sandwich. The best meal was the veggie burger, the mushroom sandwich wasn't bad, but it was a little greasy. The food is so-so, but the ambience is well worth a visit! read more

We were mountain biking through Ohiopyle park when a passing couple recommended that we eat here . We set the gps an drove through the woods; literally through the woods. It was well worth the drive and the atmosphere of this little gem of a cafe will not disappoint. The owner couldn't be a sweeter soul, super nice and very kind hearted energy pours from her. The cafe clearly reflects her kindness. The food was fantastic, and the ambiance of eating on the side porch with the river literally a few feet away is just priceless. The food is fantastic, very fresh farm to table goodness. The servings are also perfect. We enjoyed the grilled salmon with dill sauce and tilapia with cranberry sauce.
