It's only so-so. In terms of ambiance, it's a home run. You can eat outside on the large veranda and have stunning views of the river and the beautifully landscaped gardens. The inside of the building is equally beautiful. The service leaves something to be desired. It felt like a bunch of angry women who either didn't want to be there, or who thought they were better than everyone, if that makes sense. The ones you want to pull aside and say, "Lose the attitude. You're a server, not a CEO." Somewhat slow to refill glasses and bring things like silverware, and such. Now, the biggest disappointment was the food. Given the way the place looked, I expected great food. The side salad was excellent. Appetizing and visually appealing. But then it went quickly downhill with my club sandwich. Instead of fresh meats, it felt like I was served welfare meat. Look at my picture. Disgusting "round" ham. Fresh cooked and natural ham does not look like this and isn't round. This round ham looks like a compressed, reconstituted ham shaped into a roll. Very fatty. And it had an odd taste that was overpowering and ruined the club. It was really inedible and I had to pick it off but the taste permeated the sandwich. Low grade mayonnaise. Chips were soggy. French fries were OK. Iced tea was flavorful, it just took way too long to get a refill.

We had a really nice dinner here while staying near Ohiopyle for summer vacation. They are busy on weekends, so the four of us couldn't manage to get a coveted seat on the narrow veranda with short notice on a Friday night. While we couldn't watch the river while we ate, the interior design was historic and cute, and we had plenty of river watching in the garden while waiting for our table to be ready. There is parking on site, or walk over from your digs if you're spending the night while on the GAP trail. The menu is long and enticing, and everything we ordered--steak, porkchop, fish, pasta--was delicious! Service was friendly but rather slow, however (probably short staffed like everywhere else). I was disappointed that the import shop from India is only open during the day on weekends, as we were hoping to browse while waiting.

Very happy to find a good restaurant in this small town that has very limited dining options. It's located as the name implies on a lovely clear river that is popular with fly fishers. The house has a winding porch from which you can dine while observing the river. There's a gorgeous garden all around the house. Service good and prices reasonable. Full bar/wine list. Full menu. Good appetizers. We had a hummus platter first. Husband had a Mediterranean chicken dish which was nicely grilled and I had trout stuffed with spinach. The fish was slightly overcooked but I find that is frequently the case in eating out unless it's a seafood restaurant. We didn't have a reservation but just walked in. You can eat inside, on the porch, or on tables in the garden for take out.

Stopped here for a Sunday evening dinner after a short drive on 219. Smaller area with access to rivers and trails etc. in a smaller area called Confluence. There are several localized shops and restaurants in the area- and this place is located in an older farmer style house surrounded by plants and gardens that runs right up next to the river - hence the name. We made a reservation and upon entry were seated on the porch back in the corner. At first I was thinking it might be tough with bugs and heat - but I wasn't bad at all. Plus the views were very nice. Ordered a rum and diet and came with a water and it's sprig of mint. My main issue was our waitress. Upon ordering our beverages, one of us was carded, then I asked if I needed to be carded and was immediately met with a cold no. Drinks were hardly refilled - and our waitress I think was bothered with us helping pay her paycheck. We decided on the smoked Gouda which had sun dried tomatoes in it (now I know where the heart burn originated). It was decent enough- I thought it would be melted like a crab dip- but it was more like a cheese ball. For the entree I settled on grilled salmon which came with a dill sauce and an order of steamed spinach. Unfortunately, I didn't turn into Popeye. The salmon was a bit overdone but the dill sauce was good and overall it was a good pick. I didn't get to try any of their bread which appeared to be homemade and warm- maybe when I'm off this stupid regiment. Overall we spent $75, to which I am not sure the value is there. The food is GOOD, but $23 for an entree when it's just plain Jane food I don't know .

However, since I was touring a few Frank Lloyd Wright houses, I had not eaten since my early morning continental breakfast at the Comfort Inn in Connellsville. Mindlessly following the Google Maps directions, I arrived in a town called Indian Head and didn't have any expectations about what I'd find in this family-friendly roadside diner. Without hesitation, I ordered the $13.99 Grilled Chicken Salad. I was quite impressed with what arrived. There were huge pieces of grilled chicken breast, tender and moist, with cucumber, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onions, beets, shredded cheddar, and a pickled egg with ranch dressing on the side (Photo 9). Sounds basic, I know, but it was hearty, fresh, and genuinely satisfying. Midway through my salad, a plate of fries arrived (Photo 10). I wasn't expecting it, but the server apologized for the delay. I only noticed later that the fries were mentioned in the menu. I certainly didn't mind because they were hot, tasty, and not at all greasy. Even though I was getting full and kinda anxious to get going, I was rather hypnotized by the refrigerator of freshly made pies. I just couldn't help myself and ordered a $4.29 slice of Banana Meringue Pie (Photo 8). I don't think I've had homemade pie that good since gorging at Valois back in my olden grad school days in the South Side of Chicago. What a nice surprise to have such a delicious square meal in a place called Indian Head. The menu seems to be all over the place. I wouldn't call the cuisine any particular genre since there were items that categorically fall under "Mediterranean" as well as "Asian-fusion". Two things in particular that didn't make sense to me. The tofu on the Mediterranean bowl. Tofu marinated in soy sauce is not what comes to mind when I'm thinking of any country in the Mediterranean. Also, the tasting menu has an option for an entree choice of veal shank. I was informed there would be an upcharge since it's a pricier menu item, which is totally acceptable. What I was not prepared for was a giant cut of meat (it had to have been 10oz or more) with a huge bone still attached. The portion did not fit with a tasting menu. Luckily, my husband has the appetite of a small horse so he finished it.

My daughter got a burger and Caesar salad, my husband got an omelette, and I got some onion rings and free rein to eat off their plates. Everything was delicious but the onion rings were a standout! It reminded me of a blooming onion in the best way! The strawberry jelly for the toast was also among the best I've ever had, and clearly made in house as it tasted so fresh. Our server was very pleasant but things moved a little slowly and we had to ask multiple times for our side of dressing. I was also shocked to see that a cup of coffee was $5! Overall though, this place was a delight and I wish I would have saved room for dessert.
