I don't know why I'm so out of the loop with what's going on in Lincoln Park, but just like a…read morerestaurant across the street from here, I have NEVER heard of this place. I used to hang out in this area for three years straight for dance class and grad school and just totally overlooked it. It was founded in 1988, and I have no clue when it came to Chicago though so maybe I didn't. I just had a sweet tooth after leaving Blue Sushi across the street (and didn't realize they had a dessert menu). I could not care less about cake, donuts or pie, but I can demolish ice cream and/or candy like nobody's business. The problem is, as a second-round vegan, it's tough for me to find nondairy desserts. I poked my head in here 99.9% sure they were going to say everything was dairy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had a new Silk chocolate almond milk ice cream. I wish I caught the lady's name that was there today because she was so bubbly and friendly. When I stared at her in confusion after she asked me did I want "Like it, Love It or Gotta Have It," I realized this order was about to be involved. I like the way that the employees mix your toppings around in the ice cream instead of dumping them on top where you end up eating them way too fast. A family member stopped to take my pic while I tasted a spoonful, and I guess I looked extra happy because I caught the lady behind the counter smile as big as I did. Happiness is contagious. Anyway, love the place. Love my almond milk frozen dessert. There's only one table to sit at and someone was there, so I flopped down on a nearby bench and enjoyed my birthday sweet!

It was pricey but enough for 2 people to share. Metered parking on a weekend evening was easy. My only complaint is that it had a strange, unpleasant smell inside (we were there in the evening during the weekend of April 25th). Also, when I came a few years ago, it had a really cozy, welcoming vibe packed with comfy couches. Now, it just looks like basic tables and plastic chairs, lacking comfort, character, and charm. I'm hoping to return to try the sweet potato latte and the other shaved ices, but I hope they do something about the smell and make the space feel more cozy and inviting.

It's pretty small inside, there are only a few tables. A server comes to your table to place your order, which I feel like never happens at ice cream shops anymore! The menu is huge! There were multiple sections to banana splits, sundaes, and shakes. We decided to go with something simple. My son ordered 2 scoops of cookies n cream ice cream (with sprinkles of course) and I got moose tracks! The ice cream is the real deal. Our server was super sweet, and we were in and out of there in probably 30-45 minutes. We had the best time and will definitely be back this summer.

(The fact that the joint's been around for over 100 years doesn't hurt either.) It's a small restaurant but we managed to snag a cozy table near the back. We'd already spent most of the day eating, so we decided to share the Atomic Fudge Sundae. It's a fairly enormous concoction. I found it interesting that the hot fudge was served on the side, but it's actually pretty smart because you get control how much (or how little) sauce you get. The ice cream is the highlight. It's creamy and rich, and it's got a really nice flavor, too. The hot fudge was less impressive, but that might be because I had already eaten a Ghirardelli sundae earlier in the day and their hot fudge just can't be beat. The service was super friendly and the atmosphere was kitschy and fun. It's a cool place.

Everything came out quickly, the staff was attentive, and the owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the visit feel even more personal. We tried the Pistachio Coffee, and it was easily the highlight of the visit. It had the perfect balance of sweetness, was wonderfully creamy, and absolutely delicious without being overpowering. The double scoop is something like $1.50 more vs a single scoop ($6) & a waffle cone is only $1 add on. Service was good but lines are behind (5-10 min wait) so don't try too many flavors & keep others waiting. Ambiance is a cute little shop & lots of people order it to go & walk around the cute downtown Northbrook instead of dinning in. Protip: They offer self serve free water at the end of checkout, so you canwash down your palette instead of ordering a drink & loading up on more calories. Also, there is an app offering an initial free ice cream, single scoop & you can do an upgrade for the price difference. Great addition to the area! I want yo try the cakes next time.
