So far this takes the crown as the best ice cream I've had in Chicago - OK I get that it is frozen custard not ice cream but in the Midwest, you can say you're getting ice cream and people can assume that's custard and that's just fine - there were so many delicious looking concrete options. these are basically like sundaes with the toppings mixed in. I really wanted the banana peanut butter one, but had to play it safe because I was splitting one. they have vanilla, chocolate, and a DAILY ROTATING flavor - this was the creamiest smoothest custard I've ever had. not to mention their "regular" size is LARGE. - the ice cream was so incredibly creamy, but we were pleasantly surprised at how generous the mixing portion was. There were plenty chunks of cookie and chocolate sauce to make every bite fabulous - there tends to be a large line but it moves fast as people line up to go in and at the other order window. there is plenty seating inside. I heard the workers are treated poorly...and I really hope this isn't true

Always a line but totally worth the wait! Tons of options from sundaes to malts to shakes to concretes and even Italian ice. Loved the Java lava concrete and vanilla malt shake! So creamy and delicious!

Favorite place in Roscoe Village to get cold treats, best known for the frozen custard. It may not be a big place, but all their confections have big taste. Scooter's has been around a couple decades, handing out bowls and cones from the window. Of course there's more than the custard here. They also have Italian ice, and there's hot dogs if wanting a full meal. An interesting history about it. It's locally owned, opened by a couple who left their previous jobs. They truly seem to enjoy what they're doing now, and the frozen concoctions are proof. Came by to cool off on a hot day. She wanted the frozen custard, and I got the non dairy option of the Italian ice. It's about $5 a cup. To be honest, not that bad of a price for local stuff made from scratch. Certainly they take a lot of pride in making the custard. It's not full of butterfat, but it's dense and a little goes a long way. Has tons of flavors to choose from. They also have hot dogs and some other things. Closed Mondays. It's on the corner of Belmont and Paulina. The custard is the most popular thing, but that's not all they have, and there's Italian ice if looking for a non dairy option for vegans.

My boyfriend raves about this spot for being one of his favorite spots so he decided to take me to Scooters today. I got myself their dipped waffle cone with their vanilla custard. Honestly hands down one of the best vanilla custards I've had by far. The service was great! They were fast and had our orders taken and items given within a few minutes. There are very few seats for indoor dining but we were fine with that since we were heading out after getting our goods. We did go during busy ice cream hours on a Sunday as well. Would totally recommend trying their custards out. My boyfriend got their mixed custard with strawberry and pineapple and it brought back good memories of his childhood. Great for a hot summer here in Chicago!

My concrete was very watery and melted as soon as I got it. Not very appealing. Both of my ice creams were watery

Scooters is the spot for custard in Chicago! They have such a great mix of pure custard, concretes and sundaes that you could visit here endlessly. I particularly love anything with peanut butter and chocolate and my wife always goes for a chocolate strawberry mix. The neighborhood is quaint and the service is always excellent - even on those crazy hot summer days. Choose local and definitely choose Scooter's!

Soft serve options. No ice cream or frozen yoguart but lots of toppings to mix in. We liked the flavors and soft serve. Service could be nicer and more welcoming. Decent spot to pop in and has good seating options for enjoying an afternoon snack.

Mocha Snicker Madness and Trail Mix Concretes

Finally tried Scooter's on a hot August day! I really LOVED the trail mix concrete, which was a special. It was a perfect peanut/salt/candy combination. However, the mocha snicker madness didn't have a strong mocha flavor or much for snickers mix-in's. It was underwhelming, and would definitely try a different flavor in the future. I also noticed as we left that they have a to-go window if you come with your dog, etc. Love that option!

Scooter's has been our go-to ice cream shoppe since moving to the neighborhood six years ago. Daily flavors, wonderfully rich and creamy custard, friendly service, and a sidewalk full of doggos make it a treat in so many ways. Grab a sundae, a delicious concrete, or one of the many pints of flavors from the previous week. Grab 'em all! You really can't go wrong at this true, neighborhood staple!

Yummy custard creations, friendly staff, and quick service- what's not to like?? I had a hot fudge sundae, which was very tasty. My husband had a chocolate cherry concrete creation. After trying his I realized that on my next visit I'll need a chocolate malt because the chocolate custard was outstanding!

Butterfinger concrete was stellar. Filling, flavorful and they did not skimp on the butterfinger toppings. Well prepared and fast service.

Avoid the banana foster pint; taste like artificial laffy taffy. Bummed and hoping much more.

It was pricey but enough for 2 people to share. Metered parking on a weekend evening was easy. My only complaint is that it had a strange, unpleasant smell inside (we were there in the evening during the weekend of April 25th). Also, when I came a few years ago, it had a really cozy, welcoming vibe packed with comfy couches. Now, it just looks like basic tables and plastic chairs, lacking comfort, character, and charm. I'm hoping to return to try the sweet potato latte and the other shaved ices, but I hope they do something about the smell and make the space feel more cozy and inviting.

It's pretty small inside, there are only a few tables. A server comes to your table to place your order, which I feel like never happens at ice cream shops anymore! The menu is huge! My son ordered 2 scoops of cookies n cream ice cream (with sprinkles of course) and I got moose tracks! The ice cream is the real deal. (The fact that the joint's been around for over 100 years doesn't hurt either.) It's a small restaurant but we managed to snag a cozy table near the back. We'd already spent most of the day eating, so we decided to share the Atomic Fudge Sundae. It's a fairly enormous concoction. I found it interesting that the hot fudge was served on the side, but it's actually pretty smart because you get control how much (or how little) sauce you get. The ice cream is the highlight. It's creamy and rich, and it's got a really nice flavor, too. The hot fudge was less impressive, but that might be because I had already eaten a Ghirardelli sundae earlier in the day and their hot fudge just can't be beat. The service was super friendly and the atmosphere was kitschy and fun. It's a cool place.

She recommended a Bolognese Danish, a Dubai pistachio brownie, and I added an everything bagel and took it all to go. The Danish was by far my favorite. The pastry was flaky, heavenly, and the filling rich and meaty. This is a pastry worth crossing town for. The brownie was fine, but maybe I'm over the Dubai chocolate trend. It didn't really come together as a unified dessert for me. I wanted the brownie to be richer, fudgier, maybe even a bit sweeter. I would probably get something else next time. The everything bagel was a good texture, but the fennel seeds in the seasoning took me so far away from the classic "everything." They overpowered the other flavors, but the texture was fantastic. Overall, I enjoyed the treats I got, would go back to try some other options. I would probably give this 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up. Also want to add how much I miss Hot Chocolate!
