What an amazing beer selection they have. The cheese tray is right on time. The energy is always good. It's a local treasure.

This is definitely the best pub downtown. The menu specials change every day. The soups and flatbread pizzas are always good.

I'll start by saying that I seriously doubt you can find better food after 10pm in Hickory. That said, wow, what underwhelming experience. I was coming back from a gem and mineral show near spruce pine and really wanted something better than fastfood. I whipped out my trusty yelp app and this is where it said I should go. I walk in and see all these beautiful taps, what a great start. The rest of the decor was pretty cool as well. Advertising as having beer and liquor specials everyday, I couldn't wait. Nobody every really came to sit us, so we walked up to the bar. Bartender sat us down. I asked about the beer special and he said he sold out. I asked if there was something comparable, he named another beer at $5 a pint. Not horrible, but it isn't my fault you ran out of your beer special, make something else special. I was hungry so I got an app, the GRANDE nachos. It took a little while before we got them and as soon as they were dropped on the table we didn't see our waiter/bartender again. All I wanted was some sour cream. Nobody in site, just a couple of locals sitting at the bar, watching the Olympics. Olympics went to commercial so I took a look at the other TV. Tosh.0, funny, but watching people vomit over and over again isn't really a dinner time thing. Finally out food came out, damn long time for 2 sandwiches. And it was from our new waitress. Our prior waiter had to take a phone call out front apparently. I don't remember the name of the sandwich but my lady friend got something with prosciutto and pesto. It was drenched in pesto, the only other flavor you got was a little saltiness on the back end. The potato salad and bulgar salad were good, but nothing amazing. I'm not going to sit here and bash the help, but it was pretty pathetic. And would prefer to not watch Tosh while eating. read more

The idea of this establishment is great...Especially for Hickory, NC, and it is conveniently located in downtown Hickory in the same location where Dripp's coffee shop was. The food menu looks good with natural food sandwiches and the bar seems to want to attract a hipster crowd. However, the service is shitty on many points: 1. The bar tender was drinking while working and a total dick to boot. 2. They had 3 employees working a Friday night: 1 bar tender 1 kitchen staff and 1 waitress, wtf? 3. Waitress ignored us for a while until we finally flagged her down. Additionally, the tables are situated like someone let a 5 year old do it, there is lots of wasted space. Remember this was a small coffee shop (dripps), now turned bar, where the bar takes up a significant amount of space. The only good news is they have one of the best beer selections in hickory that doesn't include Olde Hickory Brewery beers, and they are at decent prices. As much as I hate to say it, when in Hickory, NC I'll still go back but only for a Midas touch. Then I'll head over to the tap room, or Amos Howard's, to have a much more fun and enjoyable experience... read more

Looks like a bar, but the food is legit. Don't be fooled by the exterior and the dim lighting, the kitchen at Crescent Moon to well above average. They had a great draft beer selection, with a huge row of taps. Unfortunately I was not drinking during this visit. I was there early in the day, so the bartender was also the waitress, and she was attentive and fast. I prefer the special for the day, which was homeward corn beef hash. And it was great. Going with 4 stars, rather than 5, because the place is a little dim and Bar-ish. But maybe that's what they are going for. read more

Absolutely delicious. I went in on a Saturday afternoon, there were a few customers. Enjoyed the selection of music that played along with the atmosphere. Now for the food. I tried the edamame and the potato/artichoke heart soup and the Eris sandwich (spinach, mozzerella, roasted red peppers, olive tepenade, and pesto) on the BEST foccacia bread. Yum to it all. I have been going to Crescent Moon since it first opened I think two years ago. The staff is comprised of some of the best people around Hickory, all friendly and all prepared to give fast service and good drinks. The staff makes it a point to know their regulars and to know what they want, it's always nice to know the bartenders can be willing to carry on a conversation. The food is freshly prepared, tastes amazing and there is something for everyone including vegetarians. If you're in the hickory area I definitely suggest going to crescent moon and planning for an entertaining evening. read more

I was pretty disappointed with this place. The lunch menu looked great so I took my mom there for a special birthday. There were about 4 other tables there when we arrived about 1:30. We ordered right away. Waitress throughout meal was efficient enough but chilly. It took us 1/2 an hour to get our food for a sandwich and nachos. My mom's sandwich was ok but there was only a tiny spattering of avacado on it. My nachos were missing an item and came out somewhat cool, with the cheese not even being melted all the way through. I was going to send it back but figured that might take another half hour so opted to eat as was. I would not be back for food but might for a beverage as the drink menu looked good. read more

Maybe I need to be over 50 and sit at the bar for service here. I have been sitting here now for 20 minutes and he never once came back to check on me. Empty cup. No check to pay my bill and I need a Togo box. It's lunchtime in Hickory... maybe you need more than one old man running around trying to do everything. I have a job to be at. Food was actually good, but service is bad. He walked right past my table once again. I sat and waited on my check for 20 mins. 20. Minutes. He brought the table water right in front of me. Didn't even acknowledge me while I'm sitting with an empty glass. Goes back down to the bar and gives the guy at the bar another beer. Terrible terrible service. The mango quesadilla is so so so good! Always updating the drinks. Cool staff, chips and salsa so so good also! Sloppy Joe special amazing. Never had anything bad here. They make tons of good cocktails! It gets busy / loud in there at times but it's a bar with people having a good time, so it's to be expected! read more

I was served WARM BEER! I was charged for WARM BEER! NO ONE CARED THAT I WAS SERVED WARM BEER! On Thursday 9/3/15 around 5:00 PM I decided to drop by for a beer - generally they have decent selection on tap. I asked for a sample of Sierra Nevada New Hops Series - it was warm, warmer than luke warm. I told the bartender it was warm who informed her manager (?)/head server (?) in front of me that "another tap was warm". The manager said she would check the cooler. I ordered a Pisgah Greybeard - they were out. Okay, I'll settle for Pisgah Pale. It was warm too, I told my bartender, who told the manager, who in turn said she was going to check the cooler. I don't believe I ever saw the manager go check things out while I was sitting there. If you have almost 20 + taps of beer on Thursday before Prime Time that are warm, I would be worried - that would be a travesty. Think of the sales you would not have - think about the upset customers. My bartender offered to ice up a glass and transfer the beer to the iced glass. The trick worked for maybe five seconds until the WARM BEER negated the icy glass. No one offered to try a different beer - no one offered "hey don't drink that - we shouldn't be charging you for warm beer" - no one said "let me get you a bottled beer instead from a cooler". I drank about half to two thirds of what I consider "the second worst beer I've ever had" trying to be " a nice guy" and go with the flow. I should have told them to keep their WARM BEER and take the charge off my card. They definitely seemed to care more about the sale than my happiness. What a shame. If you're going to charge $4.50 (tax not included) for a local craft beer, it had better be ICY COLD NOT WARM. I will not ever go back to this establishment, as apparently the customer comes last. read more

OK we walked in on a Thurs night, not too crowded and just kind of stood there for a while, no one came over so we seated ourselves, ok its got a relaxed vibe I can deal with that but it was weird to just not be acknowledged there were 5 of us, where do they want us at a table a booth???As soon as we sat though the waitress gave us menus and was right back to take our order, I didnt even look at it yet, she did this at least one more time if not two and then said "do you need more time"?? Yes, yes I do. We decided and started out with some beer flights form Founders Brewery which was very good, this is where the stars are just not aligning if you know what I mean, they would get a 5. Ordered some apps homemade hummus really good not as creamy as I like but nice flavor, a garlicky one and a peppery one 4 stars. Also got the grande nachos, there was nothing grande about them I dont even think all the toppings listed on the menu were on them 2 stars. Entree I had the pulled pork sandwich it was good, but there was no pickle or caramelized onion, whats with the missing ingredients??? the bbq sauce was the best part it was rich and thick had an almost fruity flavor that I liked but it wasnt sweet, tasted homemade but I dont know if it was. Now the sandwichs come with sides, I wanted "chips" the waitress asks "potato or nacho" and seems kind of put out that I didnt specify,and guess what someone else does the same thing, she really didnt seem happy about having to ask that question again. We decided to get some more beer an Ommengang limited edtion that was listed on the menu as she was walking by us with an empty tray, so we ask and she replies "I'm on my way to the kitchen" so we say "maybe we can save you a trip we want something else" she says "when I get back from the kitchen" What???? She comes back, they do have it yeah!!!! we have been fans of theirs for years, family lived near them before they were famous and we used to go all the time. And guess what the waitress smiles!!! A great addition to the downtown Hickory landscape. Great Beer, Great Food and Great People. I have only been during daylight hours so I cannot comment on the evening scene, but lunch / dinner has been great each time. So far our favorites on the menu include: The Eclipse (my personal favorite here), The Titan, The Rachel, the cheese plate, the soft pretzel...I could go on. The beer selection is great, with 27 taps of always interesting offerings, you're bound to find something you like. These folks know what is good and what is in season and offer good advice should you seek it. A refreshing update to Hickory dining / nightlife for sure! read more

Healthy and fresh fare served in a hip space with 27 microbrews on tap at all times. Who knew Hickory had this little gem tucked right in the heart of downtown? My business takes me to the metro Hickory area on a fairly regular basis. My experience has been that chains and fast-food tend to dominate the food scene here. However, a little digging with the Yelp App in hand has turned over a few originals that deserve a deeper look. Crescent Moon certainly bucks the trend and then some. The space is just down from the Carolina Theater and is laid out like a typical bar/restaurant, with the notable exception of a few leather recliner chairs right at the front, likely for those who want to relax and sip. The bar itself is poured concrete and matches the custom crescent-shaped tap stand just beyond. 27 taps hold microbrews that cover most of the beer spectrum, a notable feat in and of itself. Slightly kitsch strands of white Christmas lights cross the ceiling, but there is a great low-key playlist coming thru the speakers to soothe the scene out. The menu is a hefty mix of unique salads and sandwiches, with a couple of daily soups. All items stress fresh produce and *HARK* numerous selections are either vegetarian or vegan. This alone is worth accolades as such fare is otherwise hard to find in town, especially with such numerous options on a single menu. On my last visit I had a red quinoa salad with habanero slices and mango. Tasty, super fresh and loved the interplay between the heat and the sweet. It was a stunner, like an oasis of fresh in a sea of the frozen and the fried. I combined this with a veggie and mozzarella sandwich on focaccia bread, dressed with pesto. Another show stopper- the mozzarella was fresh and the veggies were crisp and tasty. They both worked perfectly with the pesto. While I did not indulge on this trip, I also saw a number of appetizers that continue the fresh and healthy theme- a trio of hummus and edamame, for example. Very excited to see so many options here for a lunch that does not weigh me down or blow out the calorie count for the day, yet emphasizes flavor and freshness. Servers all seemed knowledgable and prompt and even the owner stopped by to ask how I enjoyed my meal. I was well taken care of. I have a new stop when in town and I am excited to see fresh cuisine, made from scratch, with inventive flavors and combos that make a meal here an experience to enjoy.
