True story: before I moved out of town, this place was a regular haunt for me, and when I happened in there with some friends last night, it appeared that little had changed. This, I assure you, is a good thing. It's your typical litany of draft taps, and whether you're up for a Double Chocolate Stout, a Fireman's #4, or your latest European beer crush, there's a good chance they'll have you covered here. In an odd way, I'm also responsible for at least one of the musical selections in the jukebox, or, more appropriately, the opposite. One of my drinking buddies and I used to saunter in here to turn a few over back in the day, and after a night of bar hopping, nothing quite set you right like a frothy brew and, as the evening wound down, a little Miles Davis Kind of Blue on the Hi-Fi. Except that apparently we were regularly making the bar staff sleepy by playing it. And when we got to go home, they were still there, and you get the idea. So in we went one day and it was gone. That said, easily one of my favorite places to stop in the Hub City, and I'm hoping to take it in at least once more before I head back out of town. read more

Best draft beer selection in Lubbock! I recently moved here from SoCal where there are tons of craft breweries and had been let down by the draft selections here at the local bars. Cricket's saved the day today with an entire wall devoted to craft beers of every major style. Bonus points for the Stone, Deschutes and Maredsous options. We tried the jalapeno poppers, and while they weren't very spicy, the presentation and preparation were great. I've also seen live bands here a couple times and haven't been disappointed. I was shocked to see so many bad reviews for a bar offering such an ample supply of craft beer. If you can't handle smoke, maybe the bar scene isn't for you? I thought everything was reasonably priced and we got great service when I brought my Dad in for Fathers' Day (he had an Arrogant Bastard since it fit him so well hehe). This is my new go-to spot for great craft beers and free pool on Sundays. read more

This typical college burger joint (aptly named after Buddy Holly's band) is usually a pretty good place to have lunch, but we had a terrible waitress the last time we went. She forgot to inform us that they did not have two of the beers and one of the appetizers my mom ordered twenty minutes after we ordered. I guess she was new. The good: There are pool tables, shuffle-boards, tastey bar food (you can't really go wrong with hot wings, huh?) and tons of international beers to choose from their extensive beer menu. The bad: It's usually crowded, smoky, the bathrooms are gross and the waitresses are idiots. read more

A few significant things have happened in the last couple of months here at crickets: a) the menu has changed three times and each time the selection of food and brews gets smaller b) the prices of the ever decreasing menu have gone up about 50% c) the service has gone to shit and you'll prob have to help yourself to refills d) a glass of ice tea at lunch now cost $3 I could probably deal pretty easily with one or two of these conditions, but when you see them all happen within a matter of a few days regulars like myself start shopping around to find better places. Maybe once they realize that regulars and there entire entourage's stop coming then things will change for the better?! read more

First, the bad: smoke. 30 minutes in here and you will inevitably smell like an ashtray. For me, I'm often a few beers in and don't mind. The beer selection is what everyone says it is: awesome. If there is such thing as too much beer, they are close to it. Not sure how many they have on tap; they have something for everyone. The food is above average, but nothing to write home about. The burgers are ok, the chips/salsa are ok, and the wings are surprisingly good for a bar. Fried Pickle spears are a great snack/app, as well. Drink specials just about every night. My favorite: Whiskey Wednesday. Definitely an iconic Lubbock bar, and for good reason. read more

Terrible lunch experience! Walked in with party of three. There was only one other table eating at the time. It took 45 minutes to get our food after we ordered it and all we ordered was a burger, chicken salad and six wings. The wings came out wrong so we had to send them back. My salad came out wrong but was going to eat it anyways (didn't have another 45 min to spare). As I was eating it, I found a WET NAPKIN underneath my salad so I sent it back. After waiting another 15 minutes I finally canceled my order and at that point, the wings still hadn't made it out. We weren't compensated for anything but the salad (it never made it out) and the manager never came out to address my table. Very uncourteous and unprofessional. I'm never going back! read more

Wow! I'd forgotten just how wonderful South Plains hospitality is. We were greeted at the door, seated quickly, and told about the specials in a fast but friendly manner. Sunday is all day happy hour so we had a lot of choices to make. Free tastes were brought to help us decide on one of their many draft beers. The food choices were pretty typical for a brew pub, but we had no complaints about the loaded fries, chicken tenders, and chili burger. The food was served hot and fast and with the sweetest smile from our server, Syndie. Great stopover on our trip back home and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a brew pub. read more

Really, what's not to like about Crickets? Lubbock has a limited selection of cool places to hang out, and this one is pretty reliable. Do I frequent the place? Not necessarily. Is the service always great? Not ALWAYS, but name a place where it is. Are there sometimes too many irritating college freshmen grating on my nerves? Absolutely, its like a block from campus. But if you want an awesome selection of beer, great food, and a nice atmosphere to hang out and chat with friends... this is a good place to go. Not my favorite spot on broadway, but I still come here pretty often. There's tons of seating and lots of games to play! They're burgers are great and the staff is super friendly. I'd give 4-5 stars but the fact that they revoked "no cigs inside" is disgusting. I cannot stand the stench of smoke, especially indoors. There's no escaping it at Crickets. read more

Highlight of the night was the entertainment, specifically, the couple that was shoving tongues down each others throats and the guy playing guitar that looked like a mix of an older Ted Nugent and James Taylor. Other than that, the food was so-so bar/pub food and the drinks were fine. read more

The servers are only attentive to their friends and men who will flirt with them. Each time I've gone either my food or drink order was incorrect and I had to find a different server to help me. During Sunday brunch my friends and I were ignored for 15min before one of us had to go to the bar and tell somebody that there was a table waiting on a server. She failed to explain how the brunch worked even after we told her we had never been there for it. It took over half an hour to pay because she was nowhere to be found. We all emailed management and called to try and speak with somebody about the many issues we had during this visit and none of us heard anything back. I'd easily pay more or go out of my way to any other bar than here. read more

closed 20 mins early after letting us pay for a game 25 mins before close. wouldn't have been an issue if they said they decided to close early that day, but the security/cop decided to cuss at us saying to "get the f out" after a bouncer said we were welcome to finish the game we paid for 5 minutes prior. i understand people want to go home, but list your hours correctly or be respectful when saying you're closing early. the actual bartenders and most of the bouncers were great!! read more

Crickets is a classic even during a pandemic. Brought an out of town visitor for drinks. The staff were wearing masks, tables were spaced out, and the staff was enforcing social distancing requirements. This is a fun bar and usually a happening spot. I will say that while I haven't had the food here, they don't keep their online menu up to date and it tends to be frustrating when I'm picking up food for someone else and have to keep calling back to finish the order. Hopefully this will eventually be fixed and not an issue anymore. I love that they have a giant connect four game inside, as well as other games to play while you drink. read more

spent some time before christmas in the wonderful little town of Lubbock, Tx..if you woulda told me that before, i woulda said *That'll Be the Day i Die*....but....what a fun town....Texas history and some say the birth place of true rock an roll, so after dinner we drove my chevy to the levy and looked over the cemetary where Buddy Holly is buried..... and on to Cricket's....named after his legendary band.... didn't come here for the food....but the chili fries were outstanding..a huge plate easy serves two....i'll have mine with green chiles thank you :-) the beer selection was something to see....micro brews from all over the country as well as european ones ..our waitress......i think her name was *Peggy Sue* :-) ...got me to try a Spaten Premium Lager...i told the bartender, Teddy...im *Ready Teddy*..and they hooked me up... a very cool German beer always served with a slice of lemon.....im hooked... a fun time with great service....when we were leaving, Ted asked if i was just gonna *Fade Away*.......i gave him a smile and just said....*Maybe Baby*.... if your ever around West Texas.....stop by and *Rave On* read more

Dropped in here after the Raiders game on Sat. We followed the crowd down to this spot and the whole block was jamming. Waited in a 10 minute line to get past the door man. No cover. Lots of great drafts on tap and tons of people. Don't remember any music so either the playlist was weak or its was turned down low. Pool tables in the back and good service at the bar. i have nothing but good memories here. even though it is a bar in lubbock. i may be from this city, but i no longer fit in. walking in, looking like you're from LA, to a bar full of frat guys and their girlfriends - you can hear the record skipping in the jukebox. (no, there isn't a record-playing jukebox here) i do love some shuffleboard. and quality tables are hard to come by, especially in a bar that sees a few hundred people a night in a college town like this. but crickets' tables are pretty well-kept and stocked with enough sand for you to play all night long. their draft beer selection is quite massive, so they most likely have something you're more than willing to ingest. and most of the staff is friendly, so they'll probably answer any questions you might have about what beer to get drunk off of that night. cricket's is across the street from one of the better places in town to get a margarita. in fact, go get some margaritas in your system first and then come to cricket's. and then order one of those table kegs. and then forget who the hell you came with, where are my keys? and, wait, how did i even get this drunk?? read more

Crickets is easily the worst bar in Lubbock. Their manager takes personal matters into whoever he decides is good enough or not to drink at the bar. Terrible service and worse drinks. You would be better off spending your money elsewhere. read more

I didn't even get to go in, as the door guy said that "the bartenders didn't want any minors in right now". It was only 11:00 and my friends, who are all 21 and up, assured me that minors are allowed in, with X's, until midnight. So I spent over an hour getting ready and driving to the bar, only to have turn around and leave before even getting to see my friend, because apparently the bartenders get to decide who is allowed in and can change the policy at a moments notice. I an a Hispanic American graduate from tech. I have been here a hand full of times and I have always felt like I've been put aside. For my graduation I was told I was "next" 4 times after everyone else was served. I would understand if I was disruptive but my family had not been drinking and they were completely respectful. They finally found an excuse to kick us out "too loud at a bar" and they forced us all out. Honestly, as a Texas tech graduate, I never knew what the definition would be of someone who was too loud at Broadway. I just find this ridiculous and I hope the management could adjust. I spend 4.5 years at this amazing university just for my family to experience tbeir first bat in Lubbock to be awful. read more

The smoke here is TERRIBLE. Even if you go for a few minutes to say hi to friends, you'll end up smelling like your great aunt Mabel. Also the live music is decent, but they turn it up so freaking loud you can't have a normal conversation with the person next to you. There's plenty of seating and table space which is really nice. Unfortunately the bar area is cramped and can sometimes take forever. Also the bathrooms are trash, but that's expected for a college bar. The game room is fun with some bros. They have a wide variety of games and it's very chill in there. Can't say enough about the variety of beers on tap! There's always a new one I've never heard of that I have to try. Unfortunately, the price with these "exotic" beers is a little steep for college kids. After a few of these and add in some shots and you're easily looking at a $50 tab. Cocktail waitresses are slow AF but they have to compete for attention at the bar, so it's slightly understandable. But do yourself a favor and just walk up to the bar instead of waiting 20 minutes for the girl to get back with your beer. Overall, it's a Lubbock Classic that is fairly crappy, but a can't miss during your Broadway Crawl. read more

Went here on two occasions. The first time we only had drinks. It wasn't too busy or smoky. Had a fantastic waitress who was prompt and friendly. Beers are slightly on the warmer side. The second visit we sat at the bar. Decided to have lunch. The cheese sticks? Holy cow! They are made in house and resemble the size of a stick of butter! Cheesey gooey goodness! Must have if hung over, lol. I had the fish and chips. Fries were slightly soggy but seasoned well. Fish had a clean flavor. My husband ordered the burger with peanut butter. Unfortunately it came with about half a cup of peanut butter and we sent it back and got the buffalo chicken sandwich. This was awesome! The bartender was very polite about us sending it back. They have pool tables, shuffle board and games. Fun bar! read more

Great selection of beers but don't expect to be served a full pint. Mine had a lot of foam and when I asked them about it, the bartender refused to fill to the top. Her response: the owner has told us to pour the beers like this. I guess when your one of few bars by campus you can get away with treating customers like this. Out of all the bars provided in Lubbock, Crickets is my least favorite. although there are many games to play, they are typically occupied and you have to pay per 30 minutes. I am also not of fan of smoky bars or the amount of creepy older men that tend to loom around. Also the live music provided has been awful each time I've gone. I've also been informed of many other complaints from friends in the area about their management and the way they treat their customers. GO TO A BAR ACROSS THE STREET because you will most likely be disappointed with Crickets!!! read more

This was a pretty good bar. The drinks were reasonably priced, and the selection is a step above a lot of the other bars right around there. The service wasn't bad especially for a Friday evening although they needed probably one more waiter/waitress. They had a Wii, billiards table and several other games and assorted stuff to keep you entertained and spending money. You can find better bars in larger cities but in Lubbock, I dare you to find a better one. 4 stars based on the needing some work with regards to service, but other than that no complaints. read more

I really wish I could separate my score into several categories a) beer, b) atmosphere, and c) service. I will average my three scores. I cannot attest to the food because I'm usually there for a) and b). That said, based on my limited knowledge of the commercial beer selection in Lubbock, I would say Cricket's by far has the greatest selection I've seen. Microbrews adorn the taps with Stone, Full Sail, New Belgium, Spaten, Paulander heavily represented. They have great gaming with regulation size shuffle board, bar-quality pool tables, foosball and electronic games. Nights are pretty packed with the college crowds and people watching is awesome. The Service however leaves a lot to be desired. Door crews are unwelcoming tool boxes, security are pompous and rude and bar staff can't multi task to save their life. Sorry guys, perhaps I got you on several bad nights but there seems to be a trend.
