We're not a patient of this office but Boy! Were they a lifesaver. We were visiting Monterey for family vacation when my daughter forgot her orthoK hard lens plunger remover. I knew none of the cvs and walgreen would carry something like this in store since it's pretty niche, so we called this office since it was closest to the embassy suite we are staying at. I was thinking, maybe they would not have it however, to our surprise, they had it in stock. Called in advance, and the ladies at the front desk was super helpful. I used to be a repeat customer, but I will never do business with them again. First off they tried to give me an expensive eye exam and I stopped them midway as I explain to them all I was there for was reading glasses and they stopped the test. They then informed me the test that I didn't request as I know that all I had was the bare minimum insurance. Well 6 months past and they tried to charge me $600 which I told them that I will not pay for something that I didn't request. The reading glasses that I bought which cost around $500 broke within a few months, I mean snapped in half. I only wished that I would have read the reviews on the place. They act so nice and concerned but they are all about money. I used to recommend this business and actually really liked them and would have been a loyal customer for life but now I see their true business model. Stepping over dollars to pick up pennies. But the staff did a great job being patient and explained to me what was going on during the exam. Everyone here is very friendly and understanding. I had a great visit with Dr. Sethi. The office got right back to me, scheduled a convenient time, ran me through a battery of different tests, and got me some upgraded reading glasses. Dr. Sethi was very thorough and explained all of the tests I did and all of the results. His assistant was very personable as well. The new reading glasses are much better than my previous ones. I was never going to post anything here, but reading other reviews from people about their awful experiences with the staff emboldened me to write this review and let future patients know what they are in for and what to expect from this place. I originally used to go to Crisp Vision's Salinas location, they were fantastic! The doctor, the staff, all super great! Then sometime last year I got a letter saying that location was closing and to go to the Monterey one instead. In November 2020 I knew that I needed a new pair of glasses since my current ones are falling apart, and also to update my glasses prescription, so I went to their website and made an appointment. One week later, no response, no conformation, so I try calling them. And calling. And calling. Kept getting nothing but the recorded message, leaving my info, waiting days, calling again, rinse and repeat. Finally, I go there in person, the lady at the desk tells me that they've been having trouble with Comcast, and that's why their website and phone systems have been failing to record any info all month. Any you know what? I totally believed that, it made sense! And I'm sure that line has worked on a lot of people who never read the yelp reviews for this place first, just like me. So, she makes a big show of writing my info down on paper, "because the computers are down", saying maybe they can see me in March. I think to myself, "aw man, I don't want my eyes to hurt for that long, that's almost 5 months!" so decide that in the meantime, to ask a copy of my prescription so I can get a cheap pair for classes online to hold me over till then. The moment I ask for it, the woman visibly FREAKS out, and this isn't the first time I've had the receptionist at an optometrist become hostile at the %100 LEGAL request for my glasses prescription info. Remember kids, no matter what they say, even if it's the doctor themselves, optometrist offices HAVE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A COPY OF YOUR PERSCRIPTION UPON REQUEST! But a fool am I, because this woman back in November was being so sympathetic and reasonable that she somehow managed to talk me out of it by promising that she would contact me the moment anyone canceled, so I figured that would be like maybe a month or two tops and walked out. SMASH CUT TO FEBURARY 2021. Since The start of January, I have again begun the cycle of trying to book online, calling, waiting, calling again, trying again online, and finally today drove on over to just get an appointment booked, ANY APPOINTMENT. Well, let's just say it was awful, I was cut off in midsentence, half listened too, and they pulled the same "Let me write it down of this piece of paper and maybe we'll get back to you in four months" song and dance they pulled in November. Ok, I get it, I can translate what is being communicated: "Find another doctor, we have way too many more patients than we can handle, but we can't just tell you to give up and try somewhere else. So sorry, but this is all we can keep doing with you until the heat death of the universe". Ok, understood, I hear you all loud and clear. That is not what I am angry about. What I am angry about, is the radio silence for months and months. What I am angry about, is living with painful strained eyesight for months and enduring it because they didn't want me getting new cheap $20 glasses online, so they said whatever they had to so they wouldn't have to give me my prescription. What I am ANGRY about, is all the time I wasted sitting on my hands when I could have found another doctor and had new glasses ages ago, instead of being given this evasive treatment for months on end. And the thing is, the actual eye doctor at this place is probably just as good as the one I had back in Salinas, but I have no way of knowing, because of the above stated reasons. read more

I've been going to Crisp Vision Optometry on N. Fremont in Monterey for many years. This is the most welcoming and caring optometry office I've ever known! Dr. Sethi and Priya are wonderful people. Both of them are friendly and personable. Dr. Sethi is extremely knowledgeable and provides very thorough exams. He takes his time and allows discussions and explains things clearly to me. Priya administers scans, etc. and helps me select glasses and is very informative about eyewear and insurance. They never rush me through an appointment, they are both easy to talk to and they always provide excellent care. They are kind and caring. They and their staff make me feel comfortable and offer the best of guidance and service. Upon entering their office today, Jill at the Front Desk immediately greeted me by my name. She is very nice. This office is professional and at the same time offers a warm and fun environment. I would never go elsewhere. This review is a long time coming, should have written this a few months ago. Where do I begin? First let me say that the ONLY reason I give two stars is because the Optometrist, Dr. Sethi who offered exemplary service. Just as kind as he can be, unless, unless its one of those situations where the one in charge can be sweet but something different behind the scenes. I say this bc I believe the young lady intentionally sabotaged my prescription because I refused to adhere to her aggressive up-selling? They recommended that I receive bifocals for closeup and long distance. I emphasized that I only wanted glasses for reading up close, that I could see long distance but if necessary would return to order a second pair for long distance. Again, I mentioned that I had two pairs of bifocals, a pair of progressives sitting at home and didn't like either. My last appt at Kaiser - 2yrs prior, the optometrist stated I didn't need prescriptions and could just use readers. The first mistake she made was arguing with me in front of strangers, customers, people who I do not know. It's probably a HIPAA violation. I noticed when she went to the back to consult with the doctor, I could over hear her conversation, "She said she doesn't want bifocals". She returned even more aggressive and when reiterated with a firm, "No", she walked away and refused to help me. She ignored me to the point that the other young lady observed and proceeded to help me. After leaving my appointment, I contacted my insurance company, they stated that I could use my insurance to purchase my daughters contacts and my eye glasses at Costco for a much cheaper price, so I cancelled my order with Crisp Vision and asked for our prescriptions to give to Costco. Now, I didn't expect the lack of professionalism that followed, but I just had a suspicious feeling that something might not go right? Then I thought, no, regardless everyone needs to retain their ethics when doing business. Costco filled my order, glasses paid and received.. I could not see my finger ifo my face. It was extremely blurry and unfocused. Costco said the prescription was 3.0. I believe that was intentional because I distinctly told them that my previous prescriptions and my readers were 1.5. I can't keep taking off of work to clean up someone else's petty behavior. So yes, the doctor offered me the option to come in and test my eyes again, but appointments were always later in the evening and I was unable to attend. I'm thinking, "Why do I have to come at the end of the day to have something corrected that your staff messed up?" Don't push me to the back of the line, when you exhausted my insurance and may have cost me the money I spent for my glasses. If I had known that I Kaiser was an option for free eye exam, not only would I have saved $200, but at least no one would have been trying to badger me to make a sale. So where am I now? I'm trying to secure an eye appointment with Kaiser and I'll probably have to beg Costco to allow me to change the prescription because its been well over 90 days. FYI: I selected this location after reading YELP reviews. So I suspect people who have problems might not take time to write reviews. I understand.. I have read other reviews about great doctors and horrible staff. It makes you wonder why do they keep them on board. read more

Consumer beware. I had a really bad experience at this business a year ago. I needed to have my glasses prescription updated, they were in network. The staff was pushy from the moment I walked in. New patient documents ask invasive questions about family and their health history that had no impact on services being rendered to me... and obvious attempt at future sales. I left it all blank and also refused to provide my medical insurance data 'just in case'. My exam with the doctor had none of the usual check in/feedback questions and he never once made eye contact while making me sit through yet another up sell on improving my corneas with some sort of placental tissue. I forget the details now, but I have an ophthalmologist so yeah, no thanks. Fast forward a year and I get an text informing me I have an upcoming appointment. The hell I do. When I called, the staff was dismissive and uncaring (again) though they did make a point of calling me back to say it might take some time to remove me from the automated updates. But they also hung up on me when I pointed out that wouldn't be a problem if they hand't started that without my approval to begin with. I wouldn't be surprised if there was attempted billing but I've already notified my insurance provider. Every business deserves to make sales but it seems pretty clear that the customer is secondary to the $$$ for this business. read more

Very rarely do I make the time and effort to go onto Yelp to submit a review for a business unless matters merit it. Unfortunately, this is the case with Crisp Vision Optometry. I was a patient of this practice for over 6 years, but our relationship officially ended yesterday after I contracted PINK EYE from this office. My annual eye exam was on a Tuesday, and almost exactly 24 hours after my visit is when my symptoms started. I called the office and they tried to tell me that my symptoms were due to my allergies and itchy eye (none of which showed up during my exam on Tuesday), and to call back if not resolved by the weekend. A couple hours later, I emailed them to inform them that my symptoms had gotten worse and it's indeed conjunctivitis that I contracted after visiting their practice (this was confirmed after I had an evening phone call with my general practitioner). I labeled my email as URGENT, with a plea for Dr. Sethi to put in a prescription for my eye to begin treatment. No response. I called their office again and left a voicemail. No response. I sent a follow up email that night again asking for a prescription, as I have an 8 month old baby at home that I did not want to infect. No response. The next day, I tried calling the office multiple times with no answer. Still no answer from my two emails marked URGENT. It wasn't until about 1:30pm in the afternoon the next day that Priya finally acknowledged my case. To say she was in denial was an understatement. She tried to convince me that I don't have pink eye, and that I didn't contract any disease from their office. No apology, no acknowledgment of my concerns, NOTHING. She offered for me to come in and have Dr. Sethi look at my eye and that's it. Obviously, I'll never step foot in that dirty office again. I asked her to send me my prescription and to ensure my glasses that she sent out to be updated make it back to me. The rest of the day passed, and no prescription came in. I emailed them one more time asking for the prescription, only to find that my emails have been bounced back. My assumption is they blocked my email address to ignore my two URGENT emails and my request for a prescription. Obviously, this type of business practice is concerning. A patient contracts a disease from this office and is ignored, tries to be convinced it's allergies, and is not acknowledged whatsoever. I called the Health Department as they should be made aware of the conditions here. Other complaints of this practice over the years span from very long and extended wait times, difficulty getting communications, and flat out their cancellation of my appointment without telling me. I drove 25 minutes to my appointment two weeks ago, only to find the doors locked, lights off, and a sign saying they were closed for the day. What perplexes me the most is Priya was always kind and helpful. What caused her shift is beyond me, but I find that to be one of the deepest concerning points. Her kindness allowed me to overlook the hour delays of appointments, the poor staff and communication, and to give graciousness that they are a small family business just trying to stay on top of things. Needless to say, that ship has sailed. She has been rude and unhelpful on matters that are concerning the health and safety of the patients at this practice. I do not recommend becoming a patient at this practice or continuing treatment here. It's clear their priorities are not patient-centered, and if you have legitimate concerns, you will find yourself tossed aside and ignored. Shame on you for treating patients this way. read more

Failure after failure after failure!! this place was a disaster from the beginning. I was trying to get away from going to Costco for my eye care needs and when I looked up my insurance this one popped up with in a few miles of my residence. I decided to give it a shot. When calling I asked a questions about my insurance(what they would cover). They stated they would have someone call me back. Over 48 hours with no call back. I called them back and again they said they would call me back. It took another 8 hours but I did get a call back. Upon arrival(sat the normal 15 to 20 mins waiting) the tech brought me into the exam room. She gave me the exam and them walked me into Sethi's office where she told me she was going to dilate my eyes. I stopped her and told her that I had my contacts in and did not bring my glasses because no one told me I was getting my eyes dilated today?? She then responded "Your contacts are in?" this is after 20 minutes of tests where she is starring into my eyes. I told her again yes I cannot see very well without them. She said that my contacts were supposed to be out for the initial exam. Long story short I waited 20 minutes and was switched from room to lobby to room several times then she brought me a case to take out my lenses and we redid all the tests. We then head back into Sethi's office the tech again said she was going to dilate my eyes. I again told her I cannot see well therefor cannot drive well with out my contacts. I asked her to please ask the Dr if I can put my contacts back in after being dilated she left the room and never came back? Next enter Dr. Sethi. He came in and shook my hand with a very limp/awkward shake. I tried not to judge but he never really made eye contact with me either. He then told me I was a perfect candidate for lasik eye surgery. There is no way I am letting a man who cannot even make eye contact anywhere near my eyes with a sharp object!! He had no bedside manor but wanted to hack into my eye ball(aka not covered by insurance so $$ in his pocket). I made it out of the exam finally! When I came out they tried to sell me everything under the sun. It felt like a cheap used car dealership! As I was leaving the woman at the front desk asked if I had signed the waiver. I asked what waiver? She then gave me the paper and it was letter stating that I had refused to get my eyes dilated (this was the kicker). I explained to the woman what had really happened that the tech had never come back to answer my question. She simply said she is new and no longer was interested in what I had to say. I left, got in my car and went home. I did order some lenses( my insurance covered the first 4 boxes so I figured why not?). They said they would be in a week. About a week later I got a phone call from my husband saying that they had called him because my phone number was not working. Considering he just called me my number was working just fine. My husband even verified my number to the woman who called. I do not know if they are overworked, unorganized, or just incompetent either way I will never go back and I will let all my friends and family know never to go here!!! I have been seeing, pun intended, Dr. Sethi since 2002 when he was back in Salinas @ Costco. I love the new office and all of the testing that is done. I feel I get a thorough eye exam each year I go for my yearly exam. My eyes are tested with about 6 different machines and one machine takes a picture of the back of my eye balls and Dr. Sethi can compare the past several years pictures to see changes in my eye health. Really cool stuff! Changes in how the back of my eyes look can indicate health concerns down the road, like diabetes, high blood pressure, and mac degeneration. Way cool technology, service that I would not get at Lens Crafter or Costco. Crisp Vision seems to care about my long term health and has many ancillary services also. I have been fitted for RGP contact lenses, have had LASIK consultations, and Orthokeratology, which is a hard contact that reshapes your eye so you don't have to wear glasses anymore. My eyesight was too poor for it to work, but Dr. Sethi spent many sessions with me trying to get the right outcome. Many Dr.'s are blow and go, but not Dr. Sethi, he is not finished until all of my questions are answered. I really do wish my other healthcare providers were as cutting edge and hands on as Crisp Vision. If you are looking for a quick, non-responsive, eye care provider Crisp Vision is not the health care provider for you. If you are wanting to create a long term relationship with a Dr. that cares about your overall health and who wants to see the best in you, Crisp Vision is the place. read more

Office doesn't return calls. Extremely disorganized. My prescription was incorrectly entered, but they still haven't returned my call to fix it and provide me a correct one. Former employees have left. Go some place else. It's better to pay $75 say at Costco, because the amount of time you spent trying to get a hold of them, you basically paid more than $75 of your time. At least Costco would answer phone and get back to you. I really don't understand why this office doesn't have it together. read more

I had Crisp Optometry when I lived in Monterey, then moved to LA. Never had a good pair of glasses in the 4 different optometrist I went to in the LA area. The last one was bad. So, I went back to Crisp, drove all the way to Monterey. They were nice to open for me on a Saturday, and just got my new glasses in the mail. They are fantastic. Dr. Sethi knows what he is doing, when he does all the tests. It is a lot of hands on work, unlike the other places I have been to (all machines). Old school style, and you get your eyes tested properly. All that money I wasted at the other shops. It was worth the drive. I will make my drive again to Crisp for my next replacement. read more

I've been going to Dr. Sethi for several years now. He is very detailed, patient and thorough in his examinations. He is very well educated and keeps up-to-date on the latest trends and news in optometry. I have a condition that isn't serious at this time but requires monitoring and I feel that I'm in good hands. Dr. Sethi seems very focused on preventative care and the importance of heading off a condition before it happens or preventing one from worsening, whenever possible. The staff is very nice, especially his wife who seems to run the show :) and the woman who helps with the glasses and contacts (I am bad with names!) Stay away from this place. They are dishonest. Both my coworker and I went here for an annual visit. Every other optometry I have been to, does a thorough examination including the dilation during an annual visit. These thieves want to make money by charging both your vision and medical insurance. So they refuse to do the dilation on the first visit, make up an excuse (dry eyes in my and my coworker's case), then they want you to go back in a month for dilation and an attempt to sell you a whole bunch of products. Since you already had your "annual", they'll charge your medical insurance. This is absolutely unnecessary when then can do it all in one session like all other places. Also the exam certainly didn't feel thorough and was done in a rush. I sure skipped the second visit. I had a hard time cancelling it since they never responded to my email and voicemails I left weeks and days before my appointment. They called my a couple of days before my appointment to remind me about it and I was finally able to cancel it. Now I have to wait to use my vision insurance for a "real" check up with another doctor. read more

Have been a patient of Crisp Vision for many years and every experience has been 5 Star. Staff are very knowledgeable and have walked me through selection of frames and lenses for glasses and sunglasses. I appreciate the time they take to explain options and their pros / cons. I've stopped in on a number of occasions for a quick tweak of my Silhouette eyeglass frames and I must say they're very patient with me. I think I've finally figured out that I can't be rough with these frames. Dr Sethi likewise takes time to make sure I understand the results of my annual eye exam. First let me state that Dr Sethi is very professional and answered all my questions, it is I believe the Office Manager named "Priya" Both times I went to their office for glasses back in May 2019 and contact lens several weeks ago (Dec 2019), it seems to be a hassle to receive my prescriptions on both. It literally took 3 weeks to get the prescription for my glasses, finally emailed to me. I would call (they never answer when I called or no response to my emails) I finally went back to the office to get my prescription and Priya told me I needed a appointment! I would not budge and told her I wanted my prescription for my glasses and she finally gave them to me. She told me "We wait to see if you like your glasses" I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went to get examined for the contacts...this time she said "Its a trial lens so we do not give you the prescription" Talked to a friend who is a Optometrist in San Francisco and he emailed me this: "The Federal Trade Commission enforces the Eyeglass Rule. It requires eye doctors -- ophthalmologists and optometrists -- to give patients a copy of their prescription - whether they ask for it or not. It's the law." Priya has terrible customer service and tries to sell you their items (does she get a commission?) She argued with me on my request for my Contact lens prescription. The other ladies that work there are polite, but Priya will not give you your prescription and even take the Contact Lens foil that holds the contact lens away from you so you do not copy the prescription. She needs to cater to the customer and not try to sell you items that are well over priced. read more

After many eye exam places I've been to I am very glad I found this place . I came in for an emergency pair of contacts and they got me in the same day . Not only did they help me in emergency I got a eye exam and ended up with new glasses and updated prescription. I hate wearing glasses as they frustrate me and the ladies in front knew exactly which glasses were best for me . The dr informed me every step of the way on my astigmatism and even explored my options for lasik in the future when I thought I wasn't a candidate for LASIK.The ladies in the front are nice and welcoming . I've been going to Crisp Vision for about two years now. I'm 28 and I've been getting an annual exam since I was five so I've seen my fair share of optometrists and Dr. Sethi has been of the best so far. He's very competent and knowledgeable and his staff is great. I was referred to a surgeon for LASIK from him this fall and he is currently doing my follow care and so far I've had excellent results. He and his staff were there for me every step of the way and made me feel confident in my decision. I will continue to see them for my annual exam and for my 7yr old daughter who wear glasses as they are provide exceptional service. Word of advice: you get what you pay for. Crisp Vision may be on the pricier end of the market but why be cheap with something so important as your eyesight? read more

I wouldnt refer anyone to this business and wont ever go back. My daughter and I have waited over a month just to get the glasses in after they promised 2 weeks on the initial visit.. They put me off every week each time stating that there was a problem with the inspection process and that they wouldnt have them until the following week. read more

This place is way expensive. They charge you a ton for the exam then make you come back to try things on and charge you for a "fitting fee" which makes zero sense. I was charged an extra $60 just so I could try on contacts and say, yeah, these are good. Doctor is very distant and zero social skills. They do give a "military discount" but it's not much. The glasses are all very expensive. The cheapest contacts they have cost me $160 for a years worth after the discount...which is not bad but the cheapest ones hurt and are itchy. (I obviously didn't get these) I refused to buy glasses here (because of the outrageous prices...seriously, just go to Wal Mart or Costco...) so I asked for my prescription twice. Once over the phone talking to the receptionist who told me that they would call me back (never did) and then again when I left a message with their office during business hours and they never called. back. Absolutely fed up with this office. I will not be returning. I'm trying to order glasses online from zennipotical.com but I can only do that if they return my calls.
