Place is clean, but quiet in an awkward way. They use a very good Vietnamese Baguette for their Bahn Mi's. The pickled vegetables are very good, however the tofu used needs to be improved. The tofu isn't marinated in anything and is cut way too thick. While the outside of the tofu was perfectly crispy, there is room for improvement that sets them apart from many other Bahn Mi places I've been. If they cut the tofu thinner and marinated it before frying or grilling, this would easily make this one of the best and unique dishes in the area. I mixed Housin Sauce and Sriracha Sauce to improve the sandwich. Sandwiches are about $8-9.50 making it rather affordable compared to the other options in the area. Plenty of room for improvement. Just stopped by Crispy Banhmi for a drink, opted for the honeydew milk tea. The customer service was mediocre at best; the cashier seemed tired and wanted to go home. As a sweets fan, I found the honeydew milk tea a tad too sweet, and the honeydew flavor had a slight perfumey note. I added ice to the cup when I got home to tone down the sweetness, and it was still sweet! My friend had the Vietnamese coffee. Inside, the cafe is small but intimate and decorated with simple light fixtures and wall art. The difference between Crispy banh mi and other banh mi places around Charlotte; generous amount of veggies, jalapeños and cucumber both de-seeded, longer baguette, and bagged in a nice paper bag. It's the little details that stand out for me. Taking the extra time to remove the seeds from the jalapeños decrease the spiciness level and from the cucumbers the sogginess. I've given this place so many chances. Probably because the very first time I went, the food was perfect. I've gone about 6 times in the last year. 1st time - ordered the fried tofu and French fries. Perfect. Both were fresh and crispy. I was pleasantly surprised by the tofu - it was so light and dusted with panko. It came with squares of nori that I used to pick up the tofu pieces and dunk them into a very light soy sauce. The fries were fried in fresh oil, so there was minimal grease. I used to live near banh mi bros. That was my go to place (mostly because they were the closest but also they have amazing vegan options). But now I need to find a closer banh mi place to south Charlotte. Crispy Banh Mi is a solid contender. They only have one vegetarian option for banh mi and summer rolls but they were good considering other banh mi places might not have any chay (meatless) options. The baguette was nicely crispy as expected but the pickled vegetables weren't as pungent as I like (which I'm sure others may not like so take this with a grain of salt). The seitan was a soft and chewy texture that meshed well with all the flavors of the other dish. This definitely hit the mark. The summer roll was a bit lacking. It was basically just the seitan and some lettuce. No noodles, pickled veg, or basil. Decently sized with what seemed like a hoisin based sauce instead of what looked like nuoc nam (fish sauce) that my friend got with her chicken summer roll. I'd probably skip this next time in favor of another banh mi. The che thai dessert was interesting! It was mostly a coconut based liquid with some fruit jellies (pandan, jackfruit, coconut). The shapes of the jellies were like spaghetti and fat french fries. A little awkward to eat but I could see it being exceptionally refreshing on a hot day. Very clean establishment and very nice employees. We got the Crispy's favorite banh mi or normally called banh mi dac viet and the grilled pork banh. Both were prepared well and placed in a very nicely packed box. They do put all the pickled veggies on the sandwich for you which is nice but could soggy up your sandwich if you don't eat it fresh or right away. The grilled pork bahn mi had lots of flavor, crispy veggies, and the bread was fresh with just the right amount of crispy on the outside. Boba milk tea was delish! Perfect amount of sweetness. Just ate here and the staff and environment was so weird. You have three staff members up at the cashier not doing anything I don't know why they need that many when it wasn't that busy. The banh mi itself is not authentic it's the most white washed banh mi I've ever tasted. It doesn't even have pate on it which everyone uses at pho restaurants. My first thought was "uh-oh" since I was used to seeing the same faces at the other location for so long and worried how the drinks would turn out. I take it all back, she was quick, courteous and the drinks were fantastic. Got quite a few drinks: thai tea boba, Vietnamese coffee, taro boba. Ordered a banh mi and a noodle bowl as well (dove right in and did not get to take photos) and they were just like the ones from the South Blvd location but in a much nicer ambiance. I knew I was running into traffic so I called ahead and let them know I was on the way. He replied, "No worries, of course we'll wait for you."
