Being a Brazilian place my expectations were high but I was not impressed by this place, the acai puree/meat tasted delicious but I was bothered by the amount of granola that was the bowl came with....you will get granola on the bottom and on the top and it simply overwhelms that acai becasue there is so much of it. The acai bowls come only with banana and every other topping will cost you between 75c to $1 so they can be very pricey. My hubby went crazy w toppings and added 5 more items so you do the math. It's so rare to find a place open past 5pm but they were..until 7pm on a Saturday. Great service! worker was extremely pleasant and our order came out in under 10mins. The only thing is the bowls are pricey. Am I an acai bowl connoisseur? no.. But at other establishments they include strawberries,honey, etc.. But at Crispy Grindz, they include Granola and i think it was banana's and you could definitely add on other toppings for $.75 $2.00 each..by the time you add on all the toppings you get automatically at say.. The first time we went they were already closed - we slid in right at closing, hoping they would take pity on us, but it was not to be. The second time - two weekends ago - we went around 3:00 pm. No one in line, adequate parking. Yes! We ended up ordering a large of the mini chicken balls and a large açaí bowl with honey, banana, and granola. They have so many other things it was difficult to choose. But they never made us feel silly and helped us decide. The chicken balls were amazing. This is not even what they're called - they're actually called coxinha, and you can get them in chicken or hearts of palm. Fried to yummy crispy doneness and so so flavorful! And the chicken filling was very moist. We have been thinking about them ever since we had them 2 weeks ago and can't wait to get more! The açaí bowl was yummy too. Fruit was nice and fresh, and that Brazilian açaí was as yummy as always. They were so smart - instead of just dumping all the toppings...well, on TOP, they layered some stuff in the middle too. Since ours was a large the bucket of açaí was pretty deep, so this layering was very much appreciated. My girls acted like it was SO big, but in the end they just pounded it. I got like 2 spoonfuls, which is how I knew it was good, but not a lot more than that. They also have açaí in a stick, which we briefly considered until we decided to go the OG route. This is a food truck on the side of the road, friends, so be prepared to either take it with you or sit on the side of the road at a picnic table under an umbrella. You want a couple strawberries on there? Cough up the change. Let's get real here for a moment: Acai is served in a container, the size of which does not change even as you add more toppings. Thus: when I order strawberries (+$1) and blueberries (+$1) I am likely only getting half as many strawberries as I would if I were adding only strawberries. Do you read me? How many strawberries am I getting anyhow... 2? And honey, effing honey, why are they charging 50 cents for less than 2 teaspoons of honey? Because they can. Yes. We made a pit stop during our midday walk. As many folks don't carry cash, I was hoping they took Apple Pay. I really wanted an Acai bowl with peanut butter. We had our pup Zeus with us. The young lady who helped us was very friendly. ILNela provided a small bowl of water for Zeus while we viewed the menu. Unfortunately, they didn't accept Apple Pay but they did take Venmo. This review is only for the coxinha (chicken balls). I didn't get to try anything else. We were hopping around to different Haleiwa eateries that day to grab bites and walk around. After seeing Crispy Grindz amazing reviews we decided we needed to make a stop! It's a cute little truck bunched together with a few other trucks on the side of the road. Parking is a little tricky, so if it's full you might need to park elsewhere and walk over. We decided to order the coxinha (chicken balls) because it looked like the perfect thing to share and we haven't had it before. It's homemade dough, filled with shredded chicken & cheese, covered with panko crumbs and deep fried. There were photos of it as multiple balls but to our surprise it was one giant ball for $4. I don't think the coxinha is bad, it's just not my jam. It's got a crispy outside and the dough has the consistency of mashed potatoes on the inside with the creamy shredded chicken. I think next time I'll still with their acai bowl as being adventurous really didn't work out for us. There are nice shaded tables where you can eat your food. Easily one of the best, if not best acai bowl I've ever had. It doesn't come with honey, but it's only 50 cents to add. Their portion is generous so although it wasn't cheap, it didn't feel like a rip off. The "small" for $9.99(includes granola and banana) was about a medium/large size at most other places I've been to. Did not care for this place at all. I went here specifically for the pastel (not sure on spelling). I have had wonderful past experience with this type of food at the old haleiwa farmers market when it was located just past the entrance of the parking lot to Puaena Point Crispy Grindz was a complete fail for me. Although the Pastel's looked huge they were only filled less than 1/2 way. They were dripping with grease that made it almost impossible to digest. That being said it lacked flavor. It was also way overpriced at 6.50 or 6.75 can't remember which one. This was a super disappointment for me. I tired the beef and banana ones. Both horrible but if I had to pick the banana was better. We threw away the beef one. And dig out the fruit in the banana one and disposed of the deep fried greased up batter. If I ever return here it won't be for the pastel. Maybe the Acia Bowls or smoothies but not anytime in the near future. read more

Solid food choice while on north shore, a long-time fave with locals and tourists alike. My order was wrong, no biggie, things happen, and the owner was super cool and admitted a simple hearing error on my order. He quickly whipped up my chicken pastel, which was perfect after a long day on NS during Vans Qualifying (XL swells make ya hungry). One thing that was important to me were the local people (Locals and residents both) all seemed to have a casual, friendly relationship with (I believe) Christian the owner. That says a lot about north shore vibe, that he's not some interloper. There are lots and lot of choices for great food on NS but the fact that the owner was VERY gracious about the order hiccup spoke volumes, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention this because customer service means a lot.
