First of all, the food is good. I ordered a catfish combo and a chicken strip combo with corn nuggets (and the corn nuggets were delicious, BTW) and it was tasty. The service, though. The service is AWFUL. I was going to go to Battered Up, which *used* to be a Crispy's, on Speedway & Tucson. But for some unforeseen reason they were closed, at 1:30 on a Friday afternoon. Not pleased about that, but whatever. I ordered online because I was hungry and was hoping to go in, grab food, and leave. HAHAHAHA. I repeat, HAHAHAHA. A couple in front of me ordered, asked some questions, got their drink cups and sat down, presumably to wait for their food. As soon as they were done ordering, the guy behind the counter got a call (guess someone placed a call in order?) and he was on the phone for several minutes while I stood at the counter. He did not acknowledge me. He did not ask the people on the phone to wait for a moment (or the same to me). I stood there waiting for quite a while as he - I guess - took an order, or if not, silently played a game on an iPad behind the counter. Come on. Acknowledge your customer. Or apologize for the delay. Do something. He. Did. Nothing. When he finally got off the phone, he just gives me this look like "what do you want" and by then, I was sick & tired of this whole rotten experience. If I hadn't ordered online & already paid, I would have left. I state that I'm here for a pick up order. He then silently thrusts a bag of food across the counter at me, mutters something about sauce, and I can feel my blood pressure going up and the little Lewis Black voiced Anger guy in my head is lighting up like an in-car cigarette lighter circa 1993. I get home, there's no sauce. Of COURSE not. Should I have checked? Yeah. But how hard would it have been for him to reach behind him and take a cup of tartar & another one of ranch out of the cooler behind him? Clearly too difficult. Yes, this is a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant and I too have driven by it hundreds of times but recently had the time to stop and give it a try. First of all, the young woman behind the counter could not have been nicer, more helpful and more patient with me as I figured out that I wanted. Second of all, the fish was absolutely excellent, as were the sauces that went with it. I have tried the chicken and really liked it and have not tried the shrimp as I'm not a fan. I am pretty picky about my fish and this was moist, fresh, cooked perfectly and the breading was very flavorful and really crispy. Sooooo good. The fries that first time were just perfect, however in subsequent orders the fries were hot but very limp and just meh. By all means, take the time, give it a try - you won't regret it. read more

Oh my goodness but I am NOT pleased. We ordered online which means it goes through Grub Hub even though we were going to pick it up in person. We arrive and the young man working (alone) said that there was no order. But we had already paid! He charged us again, gave us the wrong order and we discovered this fact (of course) after we returned home. So, my husband gets to eat the fish, chicken and fries and the dogs get the shrimp and I get nothing because I am allergic to shrimp and therefore can eat nothing from the order. Ugh. Mmmm, Fish-N-Chips.. one of my favorites. This is a place where you can't judge a book by its cover. Crispy's looks a little run down and small from the outside, and the area has a lot of homeless traffic. There's a Best Value Laundromat behind them, so maybe that's why. Ryan A. and I got the Fish Combo's with two planks of Cod, fries, slaw, one hush puppy and one onion ring. The Cod was delicious, and I loved the batter. Outside was crisp, but the inside was moist and melted in your mouth. As per Fish-N-Chips tradition, I doused the fish and the fries with malt vinegar. The hush puppy looked very overcooked and hard at first, so I was surprised when I bit into it and it wasn't. The fries and onion ring was also very delicious. I couldn't find prices or a menu online before I came, and I kind of expected it to be a bit cheaper than it was. I believe it was $8-9 per plate for the cheapest plate but there's not a lot of other options for this in town. I think next time I'm getting a hankering for this again though, I'll order to go. They deliver, but unfortunately not to my area. The reason being is because a lot of homeless and some drunks were malingering around the building when we were there. My boyfriend and I stopped eating at one point because one of the drunks had wandered into the road and was almost hit. Let's say 3.5 stars--I ordered the 1 cod, 4 shrimp combo. It came with a tiny hush puppy, onion ring, and a decent amount of fries. The fries are battered, really crispy, and delicious. I tried some coleslaw, which was tasty but overdressed, not light at all. The fish and shrimp were good and decently sized. Some places give you heavily breaded, small chunks of seafood in a basket of mostly fries, but Crispy's doesn't skimp on you. I didn't finish all my food and was very full. I ordered a canned soda to drink, but they also had fountain Coke products. I don't drink soda often, so I would appreciate if they offered some fresh-brewed tea. The prices were fair; my combo and drink were around $10, and they didn't charge me for extra sauce despite a sign stating extra sauce was 50 cents. We noticed on our receipts there is a "dine-in" charge of 15 cents. I wasn't mad about it (Who is going to balk at 15 cents?), but I thought that was interesting and seemed a little sneaky. I wonder if there is a to-go charge. My assessment? Decent, good tasting food at a fair price. It took a little while to get our food, but it was obvious they prepared our meals to order. Fish was really hot and fresh. Everything here is fried though, and I didn't feel great after my meal, so if you're looking for a healthy option, this is not the place. YUMMM~ This little casual restaurant is what you expect it to be. Small with a handful of tables where the workers hand you your food Styrofoam plates and plastic trays. The smell of the deep fryer fills the room, but don't be concerned everything looked extremely clean when I came in. I came here with a friend and we shared the 4 piece cod fish and fries combo with 3 shrimp tacos. You can ask them for tar tar sauce, otherwise there is an assortment of salsas on the counter you can choose from (tapatio, sriracha , random bottles from the grocery stores). I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the little containers of red and green salsa. The cod fillets were pretty good. They were fried perfectly, crispy on the outside and not overcooked on the inside. But the taste was just okay. Fries are always delicious when fried perfectly. But the best part of the meal was the shrimp tacos. Taste, crisp, and size were perfect! I would definitely come back to get more shrimp tacos and probably try their fish tacos instead of their fish and chips. I've been jonesing for some hush puppies and seeing this new fish and chips joint I sailed on over. The hush puppies were great! And six for $1.99 you can't go wrong. They were crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. However, they are not on any printed menu and I asked specifically for them based on other reviews. They are not made in house either- straight from a freezer bag, but that does not bother me. Sadly, besides the hush puppies and low prices that was all that was enjoyable. For $5.99 you get a five piece chicken finger combo, which includes a drink (canned) and fries. Visually, the chicken looked great and the pieces were huge. It was actually white meat from the tenderloin and not processed. Unfortunately, the chicken was overcooked and dry inside. It was so dry that chicken was almost hard. The batter was lacking in flavor. They do use a wet batter and not a dry batter. The batter to chicken ratio was off. When you order chicken fingers, I expect a selection of sauces. They did not offer any choices but served it with two cups of ketchup. They could have saved money, as I do not eat ketchup. They did have a nice selection of hot sauces on the counter. But with my chips I love me some malt vinegar. Reminds me of my youth, devouring some LJS. I had to ask for some and they served it to me in a plastic cup out of a gallon jug. I feel they should have some vinegar out for the customers. I would have also appreciated some cocktail sauce. Come on, at least a barbecue or America's favorite ranch. The fries were thick, not steak fry thick but a far cry from my favorite shoestring. They could have been crispier, but that's just me. They are new and business seemed good...hopefully they work out the kinks. It is an open aired kitchen manned on this day by two cooks and a cashier. I came here on a friend's recommendation. The location is right on the road's edge so if you eat outside, you will be entertained by all the local traffic. When I first walked in I was met with a smell that seemed to come either from the fish or the oil. That smell alone would prevent me from eating inside. Maybe a better ventilation system is needed?? We ordered up our order and ate outside. First off, I loved those hush puppies. But the fries were lacking in taste and the shrimp were large in size but tasted like they had been cooked in old oil. We found this place by googling places that make fish and chips and decided to try it! Very fresh tasting fish and the fries were very tasty... It was very apparent they used different oil to fry the fish and the fries. We also got the fried zucchini, which was very good. The only problems we had was that we didn't get tarter sauce and there was too much food. When I asked how big the order for zucchini was, the cashier stated there would be only 10 pieces and when we opened the order there was double that. After seeing everyone check in and review this place, I had to give it a try. It can be a little hidden as it doesn't stand out as much. However as long as you can spot the sign m, it will then appear noticeable. After walking in, I realize it's a pretty small little restaurant. Something you can picture when getting fast food but with smaller tables and a few workers. The workers do work together and do their part, one even took time to clean thoroughly though I wished she could have waited till I was done eating. Not sure how I enjoy my food with dust particles and the cooler blowing pretty hard. Anyways moving onto the food, I ordered the (2) cod fish and chips combo which came with one hush puppy and onion ring. I think that's a great idea since I'm able to sample them with my fries and fish. I think they normally come like that. I also got a side of coleslaw and a nice variety of sauces ( 2-tartar, malt vinegar, ketchup). The cod was hot and fresh, and the fries were just right without being over-soaked with grease. So far I'm pretty impressed and the price isn't to bad either. You're looking at an average of $7-$10. I want to come back and try the wings, the shrimp, and chicken tender combination. I've been there twice in the last 3 months (I was going much more often) and both times, the person at the register was unable to greet anyone coming in the door or answer questions about the sauces. Then they want you to tip before the meal comes out.... Food: the fish is typically good but over-priced for the portion. The fries/onion ring/hush puppy are usually cool or cold. The chicken wings are very good, though I wish there were more sauces. Tables really need to be wiped down after use. Two tables were available last night and one was coated in crumbs and grease. Crispy's is the dive we usually visit for fish and chips. I would give it a 5 but they really do need to focus on cleanliness and food delivery. It needs a good cleanliness and sometimes food takes longer than it should. Other than that, everything we have tried has been very good. This time we ordered the combo appetizer platter that had deep fried pickles, deep fried macaroni and cheese, onion rings, deep fried zucchini and hush puppies for $5.99. I believe there are four of each. We also ordered the number 4 which had two chicken strips, two fish strips, and two deep fried shrimp with fries. Tried it for the first time today and order the 12 piece shrimp and fries. Shrimp was cooked perfect and the cocktail sauce had a nice spice to it and was absolutely amazing. Essentially this is the replacement for Long John Silver's. The inside of the place is very tiny and more of a lunch spot either for someone flying solo or a couple. The food itself was ok but nothing special. Fish wasn't over breaded, and they were decent sized pieces of fish. What stood out to me the most here was the butterfly shrimp and hush puppies, which I'd get again if I did come back. Tried the chicken but wouldn't have it again. Overall the flavor of the food is plain and I didn't taste much seasoning on anything. If they could change the way they season things here this place has potential to be so much better. read more

So, I'm always a fan of supporting local businesses and this place is a good one. I read a few of the reviews and I decided to try it today. As other reviews have said, the building does appear to be a little run down, but inside is clean. It's quite small with not a lot of seating, but service is friendly and pretty fast. I decided to get the fish taco meal (3 tacos for $5.99) and a 2 piece cod meal ($8.99). The tacos were good. I really enjoyed the tacos and I don't think you can get a better price than that. The fish was good and NOT rubbery or dry. Same with the 2 piece cod meal, which came with fries, an onion ring, a hush puppy, and cole slaw. The breading on the fish is not my favorite, but it's more personal preference than anything that I'd count against them. The size of the pieces was good and I love the way they cook their fries! Also, I love that they have a TON of different hot sauce options for you to mix and match to your taste. It's nice to not be boxed into one flavor profile when it comes to sauces. Finally, and this is probably just a pet peeve of mine, but they gave good juicy slices of lemon with the meals. I took my grandpa because he's been craving good fish and shrimp since long john silvers left Tucson and he absolutely loved his food as well.
