I've been coming to Sue's fish and chip since I was a very little girl. I always get the fish and shrimp basket with extra sauce on the side. The fish sandwiches are also delicious and you can't forget the wedges of lemon to top it off. A neighborhood go to for me always! read more

I was on the other side of town today and wanted to select a restaurant that I had saved in my numerous bookmarks. I chose Sue's. It's a small restaurant with five or six tables. Order at the register, and within five minutes my lunch was ready to go. I ordered #1 which included two pieces of fish, four shrimp and crinkle cut fries, which were cooked to perfection. The provide one serving of cocktail sauce. I added tarter sauce too. It was just over $16. I couldn't help but munch on my fries and shrimp while I made my way home. Primarily a place to pickup food. Very noisy. Not good seating. It is very popular for pickup, and food is good.

This place has been here for decades and changed owners several times but God bless it, the breaded fish fried to crispy perfection and crinkle cut fries have remained consistent! They taste the same as they did since my first meal from there back in the 70's when I was single digits old. It's a polarizing place. Maybe if you've grown up with it you love it, but if you haven't then it's a pass, but almost 80 years on and this place is going strong. They are doing something right. The food was good, but the small restaurant is extremely dirty there was flies all over the place dead & alive. This used to be mine and my mom's favorite hole in the wall to eat at, but they've hired new staff & they just don't take care of the restaurant at all It was so dirty in there. It doesn't look like anyone's cleaned for months. The fact that it was that dirty made me and my mom throw away most of our food that we paid for and leave instantly. The fryer guy told us that we'd be getting four mozzarella sticks and four jalapeño poppers and they gave us three of each then they were offering each other food in the back while we were there. Now I've never left a bad review on yelp before, but I had to come on here and just let y'all know. So good luck if you try it and if you don't, it's OK you'd probably live longer. My family and I were passing through while heading back home to Texas from San Diego and we found Sue's Fish & Chips. Literally, the BEST fish and chips spot we've had in AZ by far. Sauce had the right texture and stayed on the food as we dipped. The shrimp was so delicious and the batter wasn't thick. Customer service was great, very nice ppl working at Sue's. Nice staff; funky interior. It's old but comfortable and authentic. I have been spoiled because in Canada they take their fish seriously, so one usually can get halibut instead of cod. So, not like Sir Cedric's in Windsor but for being in the Sonoran desert, pretty good. I was looking forward to seeing the owner, Daryl, but not around. Daryl values his staff and treats them well. But, please spend a few bucks and fix the entrance re step-up. Not so good for us old timers who use a cane and/or walker! The workers were very disrespectful and dirty I had to ask one of the workers to wash their hands bc he was sitting there rubbing his eye while cooking the food with no gloves then was cussing and playing inappropriate music. A true Tucson gem in the rough! I think it opened before streets were paved . I have been going there since we moved here in 95 and I it. The only other place in Arizona to compare it to is Pete's in the Phoenix area. Good food and a true local place. read more

The fish and chips are nicely fried. They don't tell you until after you order, but their prices are quite a bit higher than those on the sign which hadn't been cleaned since it was put up 20 years ago. The seating area was dirty, dusty and in serious need of repairs. About 5 minutes after eating, my mouth got an odd tingling sesation which turned into the taste of blood. Something was wrong tonight fried mushrooms were still frozen and the cheap frozen. French fries were cold raw just undercooked they need to not be in such a rush. I suggest they try the food themselves and see how horrible the french fries really are. A place like they should be using fresh potatoes. The only way I would rate this place 5 stars is if they bring back their original sauce. Still my go-to joint when it comes to fish and chips (best in town), but since they changed the recipe on the sauce, they deserve 4.5 stars. I'll bump up my rating once they switch back to the tomatoes they used to use, the new sauce is okay, but I think the previous recipe was better imo. Maybe sell both sauces? read more

Growing up we used to live across the street from the restaurant, I've been one of there greatest fan, taken so many friends and family during the years and everyone has loved it. Tonight me and the wife drove there for dinner really excited, we ordered our regular 2 piece fish and fries dinner one for each and some burgers. For the first time in so many years going there I felt disappointed. Fish did not have any flavor and batter was not cooked thoroughly, fries looked like they were fried twice. Dinning area floor seemed to be dirty with food everywhere. Big surprise never experienced or seen that before. Not really but mostly disappointed. Love this place!! Food was good. Hit and fresh. Non impressed with the chicken tenders, but the fries were perfectly crispy crinkle cut fries. I love a good hole in the wall. I was not disappointed with my meal. Not five star but really good. You need more of the Sue's sauce that comes with your meal, but otherwise I would definitely visit again. Came here on a whim for lunch since my husband and I were in the area and I'm glad we did! I got the #5 combo to sample a variety of things, it came with fish, shrimp, and crab cakes and fries. We also ordered hush puppies and mini corn dogs. Everything was cooked to ordered and came out nice and crispy! Came in 10 minutes before closing tonight and was greeted by two of the coolest kids around. Ordered a combo for my husband and I to share and the sweet gal suggested we split the order so we could have our own plate. This was the best fish, crab cakes and shrimp I have had in years. Crispy and perfectly seasoned our meal was a delight. Thanks to this fine establishment we were full and happy. Try Sue's you won't regret it. Chanced by last week and put it on my radar to try soon so today my husband and I went. We will be back over and over absolutely without a doubt. The staff is amazingly helpful and friendly, three ladies working as hard as they could to please everyone and all the while sweet as could be. I enjoyed the fish so much I got the large order which is three pieces I ate two of them and have one now for later tonight. The fries are really good, and were even better when I dip them in the amazing amazing tartar sauce , my idea of perfection, smooth and not to Pickley! It's been a staple in Tucson Arizona forever if you lived here for more than a year I'm sure you've gone here if you haven't you must been living under a rock Sue's fish and chip down on S. 4th Ave. if you've ever been on fourth Avenue you must've gone here please go and visit them. My only complaint is they used to have crab cakes that were nice and healthy size now they're more like a little crab balls but still very delicious. Their fish and chips remind me of something that you would have in England very tasty, and the portions are very nice. Be prepared to spend a little but you do get a lot in comparison to the crabcakes. They also serve hamburgers if you're not into seafood. This is my first time ever writing a yelp review (read them all the time) but I felt like I had to. I really don't know how these guys have a three star average. We got the fish and chips and the fish was TERRIBLE and I even tried a few different pieces to make sure. The breading is off and the fish was super thin and mushy! The fries were soft and flavorless. You'd be way better off going to any store and getting some prepackaged fish and fries and popping it in the oven. Either these other guys with 4-5 star reviews got something different than I did or they have NEVER had anything close to some decent fish and chips. I'd have been way better off hitting up the local mcdonalds. Lemme respond to your comment. The food was so terrible I didn't feel like it warranted the drive across town to get anything but my money back and it was pretty late for me so I just settled for this review which seams to correspond to many of your reviews. I was in south Tucson looking to eat at another local spot that was closed on a Monday. Passing by Sue's and the idea of fish and chips was too good to pass up. I'm sad to report this was a let down. I tried combo #5 which comes with 2 fish, 2 shrimp, 2 crab cakes, and of course fries! The fish and shrimp really had no flavor and were over cooked it was just burnt breading. The crab cakes were the best part but were not a true crab cake, they were 2 little balls of crab. They were not burnt I think that's why I enjoyed them so much. read more
