I would give this Cristy's (from my one experience here thus far) 3.5 stars; I prefer the Madison location. We stopped here for breakfast on a Saturday after going to the hardware store and realizing that Coffee Break was closed. We got there early enough to get the last table, a small table in the corner of the front room by the bathroom. I was not bothered by where we sat Bc we were starving and our only goal was to eat and get home. Husband ordered an eggs and bacon breakfast plate, which he said was fine. Pretty generic breakfast food. He wanted a drink from the bar but they told him they didn't have a bar (but then we saw signs for beer and wine, and the Madison Cristy's sells bloodies and mimosas and breakfast cocktails). I was dying for a burger. It was huge. So, while that does not warrant less stars, I actually prefer smaller, thinner burgers. Couldn't finish it and didn't even touch the fries. The waitress we had was absolutely lovely. My biggest gripes are that they don't have pickles and that you cannot order a glass of ice water. They only have bottled water to sell you right now. I just refuse to order bottled water when it should be easy enough to just fill a cup up from the tap; so I had an iced tea instead which was fine. I'm not opposed to going back here if we're in the neighborhood again, but just know to adjust various expectations and bring my own water. My fiancé summed it up pretty concisely, "That was the best omelet I've had in my life." Truer words were never spoken! We found Cristy's by chance a few years ago after a day at the shore and we now make it a point to stop in everytime we are in the area. Sadly, it is not that often. Although we have been here a few times, we haven't gotten past the breakfast menu because "if it's broke, don't fix it". There are 40 different pancake options, and the omelets are in a league of their own. The menu also has different options for eggs Benedict, French toast, etc. Also breakfast is available all day - FTW! Eating my breakfast today truly rekindled my love for Cristy's! The omelet is a multi-layered masterpiece with all the fixings appropriately mixed in unlike the typical diner omelet which is usually cooked with a super thick layer of eggs with everything else thrown in the middle. Let's not forget the home fries that adorned that platter! Crispy, crunchy, perfect. Additionally, the pancakes are truly scrumptious and available in options ranging from sausage to Reese's pieces and everything typical in between. They come buttered and topped with powdered sugar. No need for syrup, in my humble opinion. Also worth mentioning, the portion sizes are huge and the prices are very reasonable. I only ate half my food and 7 hours later I haven't eaten a thing, well besides the leftover pancake I had taken home and just devoured. I've had much better food in most other eateries in the area. Also, my plate had such a huge chip that I did notice it before I could slice open a finger. Went on Columbus Day with my son and we had to wait in line outside....service is friendly but slow because they need a bus boy to help them. Anyway the food makes up for the wait. They're known for their pancakes and have like 40 varieties. I had a Farmer's Omelette which I had before...this time it was good but a little on the dry side. I couldn't eat it anyway because I filled up on a pumpkin apple pancake that was delicous!! If you're not in a hurry, it's a great place for breakfast, I haven't tried lunch yet. Best pancakes in CT. I suggest one pancake to start with no powdered sugar. Their pancakes are in my Top 5 of all time. There are many varieties to chose from, but I am a purist and always get two plain. My only gripe is no real maple syrup(which I always keep in my glove compartment just in case). We stopped for lunch today after seating outside the waitress came over we ordered our drinks diet cones , they. And out in dirty cans with no straws , we ordered lunch and asked for straws , she came back 6 minutes later with 1 straw I went up to table and grabbed my own, the food was mediocre , I got and undercooked well done hamburger platter for $10 , the burger tasted burnt? The bun was so greasy I left it , the fries were good , asked for plastic ware 3 times finally got our own. The place was not busy but the big blond waitress was just plain lazy , had to ask for check 3 times to get it $30 for a raw burger and pastrami sandwich is ridiculous , first and last visit , McDonald's would have been a five star restaurant compare to Cristy's , good luck fellow diners , I'd past this one and go on to old say took for lunch read more

Cristy's has been all time favorite breakfast place since I was a child. They make their own corned beef hash - yum!

They're cooking starting at 5am for breakfast every day. The burger was huuuggeee! That 12oz burger was perfectly cooked and not greasy at all. The bread to meat ratio was on point! From what I've seen, all of their plates have an abundance of food compared to the typical brunch spot. We will be back for sure! read more

I love Cristy's Restaurant, and here's why! The staff is always friendly, professional and efficient. I've been to this restaurant twice before with friends, and we've always had a good experience! I love breakfast, and Cristy's does breakfast right! Two eggs over easy fresh and tasty, the fries were hand cut and excellent! They served large breakfast links and the English muffin was great! I haven't tried everything on the menu at Cristy's but I'm willing to bet that every dish would taste spectacular. Their specialty pancakes are incredible and huge. My personal favorite is the raspberry with oatmeal. The oatmeal gives it a little crunch. I don't even use syrup on Cristy's specialty pancakes because they are so good and don't need anything added. They come out with a buttery flavor soaked into the fluffy crust. I can't pass up their home fries even though the pancake is plentiful. I don't know how they season the home fries, but they are divine. Their freshly made specialty coffees, including my favorite, a mocha, was a delicious was to end the meal. Can't really understand the community's enduring fondness for this place, other than the fact that the food is cheap and the service is good and friendly. The *quality* of the food is what one might expect at any greasy spoon, and no attempt whatever has been made to upgrade to keep up with more informed, healthy food choices available in the 21st century. Questions about where the eggs, meat and milk come from were met with blank stares, as was my request for non-dairy milk (soy, almond) for my coffee. And speaking of coffee, what's served here seems more like warm, coffee-flavored water -- weak, bland, almost insulting. Come on people, you can do better than this, and you should. How about some local, farm-fresh eggs? How about serving up local Ashlawn Farm coffee from the roasters down the road? How about just one whole wheat option on your pancake menu? How about taking that nasty, maple-flavored corn syrup off the tables and offering real maple syrup instead (or at least offering it an option)? Against our better judgment, and hunger, we decided to have breakfast at this little dinner this morning (after having eaten there twice with mixed feelings), we should have waited for something else along the road. My Fiances Eggs Benedict were covered in overcooked sauce that was much darker then it should have been and the eggs were over cooked. The potatoes were sitting in grease and burnt across one side as if they had all been left on the grill since who knows when. My pancake was wonderful, hence the two stars, but my soda with a chunk of plastic floating in it was pretty discomforting. Lastly, having been a career waitress over 15 years, I know poor service when I see it. This wasn't the kind of spotty service you get when the waitstaff is in the weeds, it was sloppy service with little or no concern from a waitress simply would rather be elsewhere. She never even asked us how our food was, not after it was served and not when we paid which said it all, she simply either did not care or knew better then to ask. My husband and I went to Cristy's on a friend's recommendation while out on a casual "lunch and movie" date. We were really unimpressed by the place (and pretty unamused by the service we received). Here's the good and bad of our own experience: Good: Lots of seating, a good sized menu with a lot of different options including an extensive pancake menu that sounded pretty good, Hubbs said the men's bathroom was clean, the check came very quickly when we requested it, the portions were big, the menu had a lot of "go to" items for those who really don't know "whats good" at a new place. Bad: Everything else. We seated ourselves (as is the policy here) and apparently we picked a "bad seat", since we received very bare bones service. Immediately upon sliding into the booth, my dress was coated in dirt and dust from the booth, which I couldn't get off. The menus on our table were greasy and dirty--and some still had old food caked onto them. (which is a BIG turn-off) I waited 30 minutes for a hot cup of tea (ie tea bag in water), and never received it. Our appetizer was "the sampler" and consisted of your basic mozzarella sticks, onion rings, potato skins, and chicken fingers. All of it tasted like it had come off a truck, been frozen and deep fried (not house made)--which may appeal to some, but not really to me. Too much grease and cheap cheddar cheese trying to compensate for lack of flavor. Afterward, I sat with dirty dishes in front of me for quite some time, as there is no bus boy and our waitress pretty much disappeared once our initial appetizer plates came. Not once did either of us get a drink refill (no water, no anything). We were only asked how things were and if we needed anything 25 minutes after receiving our lunch plates. By that time, we were done and ready for our check and to just leave since we were having such a bad time. We requested the check and it came within about 30 seconds. That was the fastest I had seen our waitress move the entire HOUR we were there. My advice: Go somewhere else. This place is either very under-staffed, or just has the wrong staff hired. The food is mediocre at best, and you'll be playing Russian Roulette when you pick a seat as far as getting some attention and service is concerned. There are MUCH better places to spend your money in this area. If the people at Cristy's really valued your business, the would actually work to earn it---which they obviously didn't. We won't ever be back, nor will we recommend this place to anyone. read more

Delish! And a good price. What more can you ask for? This is where you go for breakfast if you're in and around Westbrook, CT. We went mid-week in August around 11am. You might have to wait in line, but generally no more than 10 minutes (I don't know what weekends are like). There is always an option to sit at the counter more quickly. They are famous for their humongous, fluffy pancakes in a variety of flavors, but they cooked my over easy eggs to perfection. I don't eat pancakes generally. So my first meal there was eggs, Italian sausage, home fries and toast. On vacation, I indulged in 1 slice of French toast since that is an option. Eyes roll back in your head delicious. You can order your pancakes/French toast by how many you want. If you order pancakes, don't get more than 2. Seriously, you just can't eat more unless you're one of those people who win hot dog eating contests and want to make a point. My dining companion on the first day had pumpkin pancakes (totally out of season, but available). She loved them. She's my sister, so because she loved them I decided to have pancakes on our second day there. They are delicious and large and fluffy and topped with way too much butter. If you don't want butter on them, then ask for it as a side. I didn't know better, so I ate all that delicious butter on top of my delicious blueberry, oatmeal crunch pancakes because I couldn't send them back...they looked so good and it all was super fantastic. The only thing I would caution anyone about is the powdered sugar. They put it on everything. If that is not your taste then make sure to ask for that to be excluded. We did. And just note that you can ask for the "sugar-free" syrup, which is oddly more delicious. It's not a quick meal. Besides wait time, you have to wait longer than usual for your meal, but that is because it is made individually and fresh and delicious. All good things come to those who can wait. Bacon is okay. 3 slices long and thin, but not over cooked. Italian sausage is like a split sausage that curled over. A lot of fennel, but that is how sausage is. Sausage links. 2 links are medium sized, but juicy and tasty. Can only surmise since my sister asked for it 2 days in a row and I didn't ask for feedback before writing this review. rye toast. delicious and toasted properly. Omelets. I didn't try them, but I looked over at other tables and they looked light and fluffy and not dry. A dry omelet is an awful thing. These looked like something I would try next time. coffee is decent. Not super fantastic, but then again I like really STRONG coffee, so just about every restaurant falls short on this end for me at least. I've eaten there twice. You can go into a diabetic coma eating the Reeses Pieces pancakes. So sugary and not at all healthy. Pancakes are gigantic so I would definitely just order one because one is the size of two at any other breakfast place. We're big fans of breakfast, we always try to find the local favorites when we're traveling. We went to Cristy's a couple of days ago and I loved it (5 stars) and my boyfriend thought it was good, but average (3 stars).. so I averaged it out to 4. I had scrambled eggs, toast and home fries and 1 macadamia nut pancake. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of pancakes they have available, and I didn't want to leave without trying one. My eggs were delicious, and I loved the home fries. I don't like home fries that have a lot of seasoning, and these were plain, crispy and yummy. The pancake was also delicious. I didn't even put syrup on it because it was perfect with butter and powdered sugar. My boyfriend got scrambled eggs with cheese, home fries and toast, and while he liked it, he wasn't overwhelmed by how great it was. The service was a bit slow, we were sitting near the kitchen where the food comes out, and there were a few times when plates were really stacking up because the servers hadn't come by to bring them to tables. Not sure if that's the server's fault or the kitchen's fault for not putting tickets out. If you go, make sure to look around the room because they have lots of "menu add-on" signs hanging around. Seeing two-star reviews is just deplorable. Have you no taste or nostalgia for good diner food? It's practically unAmerican. Cristy's is my mainstay, and the first place I beelined toward after returning home from a long stint in Paris, France. Their sausage pancakes are like nothing I've ever had, the butter and sugar glaze on top creating a sweet frosting to counterbalance the salty sausage chunks fried into the crisp, fluffy pancakes. I order three, eat one, and parcel out the remaining two over dinner and the next morning's breakfast so the syrup has a chance to soak in. Absolutely amazing, and I've spent enough afternoons carting them over state lines back to college in Amherst to attest to that fact. Their crunchy French toast is not to be ignored- thick, squishy slices almost like creme brulee with a sweet granola crust, and their Philly cheese steak wrap is perfect if you're craving savory.
