Paid over $330 for a "diagnosis". Left my car for three days while they were "analyzing the problem". After three days I got a text telling me that they inspected my car and "there's a problem with the transmission." REALLY? REALLY?????? They did not identify a problem. "Something is broken inside" does not sound like a diagnosis. The only diagnosis was to tell me that I could spend ANOTHER $2000 for them to "break it down on the bench" and find out what was wrong and THEN it might cost ANOTHER $3000 to $5000 to actually fix something. I wonder why I spent over $330 only to be told the EXACT same thing that I told them when I drove in, "Something is wrong with the transmission". I have no idea what kind of actual work this place does. All I know is that they took $330 of my money and gave me nothing in return. I feel cheated. I believe that an honest mechanic deserves to be paid for his expertise, his knowledge and for the work that he accomplishes. Like any professional, his time is valuable. But an HONEST mechanic does not charge customers for promises made and not kept. He does not charge hundreds of dollars when he knows that it is just money down the drain. An HONEST mechanic would tell people up front that they cannot get a diagnosis for $330. An HONEST mechanic would tell customers that a diagnosis will be much more expensive because it involves so much work. Yes, a two thousand dollar diagnosis would chase away some customers, but at least it would be truthful. Even though this is my first car and I don't have much driving experience, I still knew that "something is wrong with the transmission." This was a con. I was referred Croce's by another local automotive business (who THEY use to get transmissions rebuilt, fyi), for a potential transmission rebuild and/or torque converter replacement. Tony and I took a test drive, after which he suggested my problem was NOT in my transmission... He had high confidence and made suggestions on next steps to diagnose some noises/problems I was having. Tony spent almost 30 minutes with me... I offered him money for his time and he refused. I called Croce's and spoke to Tony. I was looking for a price to rebuild my transmission. Tony said he couldn't give me a quote to rebuild the transmission and I should bring it in. I found that odd considering I was able to obtain a quote from AAMCO over the phone about 5 minutes earlier. Tony convinced me to bring it in. Long story short, they charged me about $180 to "diagnose" that I needed a rebuilt transmission. Their price (on the low end) was substantially more than what I could get elsewhere. Still not sure how the $180 helped him give me a quote for a rebuilt transmission when their competition is giving quotes away for free. Bottom line: shop around and don't fall for the "we need to inspect it" to provide a quote nonsense. read more

Tony and his expert team fixed my electronic transmission in my 2006 Mini Cooper S 109k miles for under $3k after Mini Fairfield dealer charged $200 to tell me they would only replace it for $18k. Why 5? First of all, you know that you re going to spend a lace amount of money to fix your transmission. What makes it less unpleasant is to get a quote that is respected. Then, you expect the work to be done fast as the inconvenience of a dead transmission is already real: we did not even have to call back, the information was provided to us quickly, clearly and in a timely manner. Finally, the gut feeling that the shop and its employees really care made a real difference. Don't get me wrong: I don't want to go back. Liars and cheats. Let me be frank- I am NOT the type of person who writes bad reviews. I am a person who believes in small businesses, because i'm a small business owner myself. I have a car that my father brought in to change the clutch. $2200 later on my Acura TSX, I had the car back. On the work statement, it CLEARLY says "Re-install manuel transmission and adjust". Well, my father shipped the car to me in California. The miles were the same when the car arrived so I knew that no one drove it in transit, while on the truck. I got the car, drove it for 600 miles and the transmission blew. Great ! Obviously, to me, it's easy to think that the people that just worked on the car caused the issue. I brought it to a shop nearby my home that's very reputable. The shop told me indeed the cause of the transmission blowing was because there was some kind of substance or something put on the car and it may have been tightened too tight. Well a hole blew in my transmission. I may have a new clutch, but now had to pay $3000. for a new transmission. My Father went back to the shop and told them what happened. The owner DENIED he did anything to the transmission even though the manual transmission was reinstalled and ADJUSTED. He did not offer to replace or even contribute AT ALL to the cost of the transmission. He did offer to find a used transmission and sell it to us at his cost. How is that for a guarantee and a lie. Look,they may have not been at fault here, but you as a reader,can use your best judgement. The owner didn't warranty his work nor accept the responsibility of this coincidence. Initially brought in my LR4 to the Land Rover dealership. Dealership couldn't diagnose, (2 visits and $ 750 later) a shimmy I was having under load and they felt that the whole tranny needed to be replaced - a $ 12k job. Thank god I went and got a second opinion from some real diagnostic experts at Croce's. Tony took it for a test drive and said it felt like an engine misfire not a transmission problem. He quickly read the codes which confirmed the misfire and that they tranny was fine. Turns out the spark plugs were shot and I was back running as good as new that afternoon. Croce's = Scam Artists. Stay far away. Wish I could give negative stars. We had a minivan that started to suggest it might need some transmission work. We were on the verge of getting rid of the car, with the idea of bringing it to CarMax for an easy trade in. My wife wanted to try and make the car last a little longer, so we went to Croce's instead. Quite possibly one of the biggest, most expensive mistakes of my life! So they do their initial assessment, and then give me a call. Of course, the transmission needs work in their opinion, but they've seen this particular problem countless times before. I spoke directly to the owner and told him I just want to pick up the car and take it to CarMax given the hot used car market. He decided to spook my wife by saying there's no way they give you a dime for that car...and doubt you'd even make it there with this transmission. So I said how much for the work. "Well, it all depends on how far the cancer has spread, but no less than $2,600 and no more than $3,300." He swore up and down it wouldn't be any more. I was opposed, but my wife carries the majority vote in our house and we said yes. He calls us the next day and says we need a completely new transmission. Yes, that's right. You see, the problem is the cancer was worse than expected, and it needs parts that are backordered. Apparently, these parts were previously available, and this has never happened before in his glorious history of owning Croce's. So I say no, I'll just pick up the car. He says you can't do that, we have it pulled apart. So I say I will leave it on the lot until the parts are in. He says sorry, I have a small lot and can't have a car just sitting here. So I say I'm want to get it towed somewhere else. And he says that's impossible with all the parts taken out. So I say ok, I see your game...how much is the transmission. He says I can get you one from a junk yard with 120,000 miles on it for $6,200. I tell him I feel like this is a scam and I was lied to and now I'm trapped and getting ripped off. He didn't like my tone. My wife had to step in and she authorized the service. We then picked up the car and drove it to CarMax. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LEARN FROM MY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. I am sure this has happened to many other trusting people before, but I hope I can help others not make the same mistake. Bad, bad karma for Croce's. It will eventually catch up to them. read more

I brought my Subaru in for what I thought was a transmission problem but thankfully turned out to be an electrical issue. Tony kept me informed daily and reassured me that they were working to find the problem, which they did. I spoke with the owner of the shop. He quoted me 3 times as much money to repair than every other shop I had spoken to. When I asked him how much he told me my transmission needs a computer alignment reprogram so the gears mesh. (I asked a friend who works at a dealership who told me he had never in his 10 years heard of such a thing and it was complete b/s) He than tried to scare me saying he was the only mechanic qualified in the area to do such a job, and what a monumental task it would be to do the work. I came here because of the good reviews but got overcharged. Both of my brothers work with buying and selling cars and were shocked when I told them how much I paid for just new brakes and rotors. Ive known Croce's Transmission Specialists since 2001 when I worked at a BMW motorcycle shop across from a Ford dealer. They used Croce's Transmission Specialists for all their transmission work. I had an ISUSU NPR box truck that needed transmission work.so I brought it there. Tony the owner and his techs. did a fantastic job at a competitive price w/ a nationwide warranty. Croce's Transmission Specialists not only handles complex transmission issues but general auto repair as well. Recently they did brakes all around belts and other to my Ford Crown Vic.. An excellent job at a good price. This is a special place. Honest and you will be treated as a friend. Its hard to find an auto repair shop like this. Ive read that 1 star review.. They are impeccable total car mechanics who had kept our 1994 and 2006 Ford Explorers and currently, our 2013 Toyota Highlander in excellent condition. Whenever there has been an issue with our vehicle that required repair, Tony explained to us what the issue was in detail and how much the repair would cost. I first took my 2011 Buick Enclave to Croce's in June for an AC service, for the AC was just not that cold and I feared a leak. They refilled the AC for me, made it FRIGID (and that's a good thing) and back to it's "old self," and even included a dye to catch a leak if there was one to occur at a later time. I brought the car back in August, for it seemed the AC was losing it's steam. They took a look again to see if the leak was occurring...NO leak, but I now believe the AC just wasn't able to keep up with steamy, hot August temperatures. Tony, the owner was very pleasant to deal with, sent a service guy to pick me up at home (after they serviced it) and didn't charge me for the second service. I like to support local business and I'm pleased with the service and friendliness of the staff and technician(s). My only complaint is minor and of no reflection on the business, but their lot is small and shared with the local Domino's pizza joint, so the in-out ease was a bit tricky and parking wasn't stellar. Again, that is NO reflection on the business owner and I was extremely pleased with my experience. I would ABSOLUTELY bring my car for service there in the future. read more
