I took my 2014 Ford Focus with serious transmission problems to these guys in May 2021. They kept the car for more than a couple weeks and basically performed a miracle... the transmission has been extremely smooth and trouble free ever since, and I get a 1 year warranty on top of that. I waited a good long while before writing a review to really see how the car would run over a long period of time. My car would not turn on so I took it to Stop & Go Transmissions. They kept my car for 1 week without checking it because the owner went on vacation. I called when he returned and he told me to pick up the car because it was not worth fixing. He said he could not turn it on and believed it was the engine. I picked up my car and took it to another mechanic who thoroughly checked my car. He changed the gas pump and water pump. Gave it a tune up and my car is running like new. Thumbs down for Stop & Go transmissions. All they did was waste my time. read more

It pains me to give an unfavorable review of a business I had been dealing with for over 15 years, but I am compelled to in order to provide caution for others. I have had a lot of work done by Ed and his crew over the years - a transmission, couple of transfer cases, a differential and regular 30k services. I found them to be reasonable and fair. Unfortunately, things have changed there, and due to recent events I won't return. . A few years ago, I did not heed the advice of my own mechanics about sloppy work here - we had a transmission rebuilt, and my mechanic later noticed that the transmission wasn't cleaned and spray painted while it was out, instead done while in the car with overspray. I figured it was a one off thing and addressed it with Ed who didn't seem to be concerned. I continued to go back and recently needed to have a seal on my transfer case fixed. Worst decision yet. Six months later and I am just getting my truck back to pre-visit condition. I had to make a few visits initially, because Ed and staff didn't know they had to remove the transfer case to fix the problem on my truck, causing me a large extra expense. I also had my routine service done at that point. I had to hold off on the full repair until I could afford it. I finally got the work done, and soon after noticed a transmission fluid leak under the truck. I had to return and was told they had to tighten the pan bolts. A little while after, I had my truck in my regular mechanic's garage for wheel bearing work and they noticed a transmission leak. Here's where it gets interesting. I made the appointment to return yet again - the morning I arrived Ed was nice enough to point out that If I am going to use another mechanic I should bring all my work to them since he is busy and has plenty of other work there - nice attitude to a 15 year customer. It also raised a red flag with me - why so defensive? I take my regular work to my mechanic, and my transmission work to a transmission shop. When I got the truck back, I was told if it continued to leak it would cost me another $500 in repairs for a needed kit. Luckily, I heeded his advice (and so now has my family). It continued to leak, and now we found it was leaking between the transfer case and the transmission - it wasn't leaking there before the debacle. It was also pointed out (and I noticed it when I was looking for the most recent leak) that someone had removed the gasket for the transmission pan and just put silicone to try and seal it. I was never told there was no gasket or advised that there was a cheap looking and poorly applied silicone for the pan. Hopefully now, the issues will be resolved with the new shop (thanks for the advice!) and I won't continue to pour my hard earned money down the drain! read more

I could not be happier with my experience at Stop & Go Transmissions and Auto Center. The owner, Ed, is great, his employees are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them! I had my car brought there - because it was not running at all - based off of a recommendation I got from someone. And now, I wouldn't go anywhere else. The service is excellent and the prices are fair and reasonable. The parts were ordered within a day, and after the parts were in-house, they rebuilt my transmission and I had my car back and running in less than a week. I brought it in two weeks later for a standard check-up to make sure all was well. And I will bring it back in a year, as they suggest. They stand by their work as I stand by their work. I have had no issues with the car since they helped me get it back on the road. In all honestly, this car has given me nothing but a headache - and nothing with cars is ever easy or cheap. But the guys at Stop & Go really did give me piece of mind and made the process a whole lot less stressful. I have dealt with a whole lot of people who couldn't care less and the guys at Stop & Go are not among them. I really do love and appreciate the time and work Ed and his employees put into my car. No offense to them, I hope I won't have to be back anytime soon but if I do have any issues in the future, I know where to go. I have been going to Ed and the guys for years and, sitting in the lobby as locals come and go, these guys are the best. They do their best to help everyone manage to get their cars moving for the least money possible. I have gone in with problems that seem big but are mended with a quick fix when others would do an unnecessary job, as I experienced before finding Stop and Go. I have seen many old vehicles barely able to move, and the guys keep them going for those of us who don't go through new cars every few years. Stop and go may look a little shabby on the outside, but what is on the inside is one of the Crown Jewels, hidden in the Heart of Bridgeport. They have been a top quality business, with their customers satisfaction is their primary goal. My family & friends have indeed been very happy and satisfied customers,since they first opened, more than 30 years ago. Believe it or not, I started going there with my car, a 1975 Doge Dart, about a month after I bought it, on November 11, 1974. The car is a 1975 Dodge Dart Sport, with the original slant six 6 cylinder slant six engine . The car has the original engine, but Stop and Go folks folks replaced the transmission, with a rebuilt transmission, by that time, the var had 75,000 miles . Here we are , in April 2016 and this 41 year old Classic Car, now has 130,000 original miles on it . Mechanically, runs great, the rebuilt Transmission, installed by the folks at Stop & Go shifts as smooth as can be, factory perfect. But, I did have my first problem with the car, when it was not running right at all. The Dodge Dealership I bought the car from, was 20 miles away and I did not want the risk driving a brand new car that far, especially when it was no running smoothly at all. My father suggested we bring the Dart to the garage that was closet to our house, the newly opened Stop & Go Transmissions. As soon as we pulled into the driveway, we were met by the friendly owner Norm. He pulled the car into a garage bay and popped the hood. In two seconds flat, Norm found the problem. A rubber vacuum hose, had slipped off an engine mount and the hose had hit the hot exhaust manifold, melting out a section of hose. Norm quickly explained to us that the his vacuum house led right back to the automatic transmission and that was the reason why the car was running so rough. Norm just walked away for a second and came back with a tiny plastic hose fitting, he used to splice the two melted vacuum hose pieces back together. He started the car up and once again, the car was running perfectly. My father Leonard Leto asked Norm how much we owed him, he said "Nothing at all. Just tell your friends and family all about our new business. Just make sure you always come back to our place where we treat all our customers as friends and all our friends like family." So, here we are, almost 42 years later and all my friends & family have always been loyal customers. Now, instead of just being a place to go for transmission problems, Stop & Go Transmissions is a full service truck and car garage. So, the only thing that has changed is that Norm is no longer the full time boss. His son Ed is now the boss and Ed is just as friendly and knowledgeable about Transmissions and all automotive problems as his father. Just like his father Norm, Ed treats his customers as friends and his friends as family. Many thanks to them for more than forty years of great service. So let me just say one more thing: When your car is stuck and it just won't go, just get a tow down to Stop and Go. Ed & his crew will get your car back on the road in no time at all. I brought my 2005 Hyundai elantra w/225000 miles on it to the State St location this past week. I told Ed that the car was leaking transmission fluid ( I had put in 2 qts the day b/4 and it all leaked out ). Now with a car that old with that many miles on it I feared the worst. I really needed to keep this car on the road. Ed told me they would put the car on the lift and determine where the problem was ( no charge for this ) and call me later that day. I felt very comfortable leaving my car in their hands. When I got back to work later that day I looked up the company and read it was started by Eds dad and had been in business for 40 years. I spoke w/ Ed later that day and they found the cause of the leak however the part was not avaliable from Hyundai. Ed told me he was pretty sure his crew could fabricate the part and if they could the problem could be taken care of. Long story short I got my car back the next day. It was repaired and ready to get back on the road.When I picked up the car Ed told me to come back in 2 weeks to put the car on the lift ( no charge )to make sure on the work they did.ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE. Stop & Go Transmission rip your eyes off if you don't pay attention. Big smile rip off. They charged me $3000 for some transmission parts! $400 blow air through a hose for the air-condition that still doesn't work and I had some car trouble so I took my car to Stop & Go on the State Ave., Ed the owner said he will add addictive to my gas tank to clean the gasoline and he will change a sensor called MAP for about $400. I was curious what MAP is and what it does so I looked it up online. I found out MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor. The Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor or MAP sensor is a sensor that is attached to the intake manifold on a car's engine. The MAP sensor responds to changes in the intake manifold pressure (vacuum) and provides a reading of "engine load". It is a small auto part that plugs into a system. The cost of MAP sensor starts little as $13 online and it takes about 2-5min. to change it. There are no screws just one plug anyone can change it! The cost of fixing my car: MAP sensor $13, gasoline cleaner addictive $8 total $21. Time spend on repair about 7min. I saved about a whooping $380 not going back to the mechanic.
