I went to have my a/c serviced on my truck they found a bad compressor and also had it replace the. serpentine belt.which I had no problem with but when I got the bill they charged me $100 per pound for refrigerant which being in the a/c and heating industry I know a 30 pound drum costs roughly $300 so that one drum they're charging $3,000 for so I called the dealer which is H&L Chevy and asked them what they charged per pound for refrigerant and they said $40 per pound for 134a so half of what Smitty's charged and that's a certified dealership needless to say I won't be back not even to buy gas which I did frequently it's not right to take advantage of customers especially ones that have going there for service and gas for a long time they did fix the problem though just don't like getting taken advantage of read more

Wednesday 8/16, 2:30. A repeated slow leak in a rear tire had us worried. We stopped at two shops in Norwalk and were dismayed it would be a 3hr or 1 hr wait. Checking Yelp, we called SMITTY's Service Center who said, "come on by." Within 15 minutes Juan jacked up the car, found a small nail, inserted a plug of oakum and magic! Fixed! I have been a customer of them since 1996, and I am told all the time they are swamped and I understand that. That shows me that they are honest, competent mechanics who know a thing or two about what they are doing. They are straightforward, and fix only what needs to be fixed however they do tell you when another part is beginning to have seen better days. The only way to deal with them is briefly describe what is going on with your car and SET AN APPOINTMENT to bring it in so you are in their queue. They will troubleshoot the problem in a reasonable time frame and tell you what needs to be done, They have been in business since 1951, or three generations, so they must be doing something right to be doing this well. I have been getting my gas here for 15+ years. Today when I stopped, I also needed air in my tires. I was pretty sure they had an air pump because before I drove over, I googled "where to put air in your tires in Norwalk." I wanted to purchase my gas from the same service station that I was using their air, which felt like the right thing to. So after I filled my tank, I went in and asked if they had an air pump and the gentleman behind the counter told me that there was a hose all the way at the end of the building that I could use and waved in the direction he was referring to. Awesome. I know how to use a hose and was happy they still had one for customers to use. Except when I went out, they had used that lane to park cars in, so there was literally no way to access the air pump. Which I kind of think he had to know. I was pretty disappointed in the service I received and will remember that the next time I need to fill my 18 gallon tank. With premium. read more

My parents went to Smitty's for decades before they moved. When I was recently driving a carful of teens along the Post Road, in town from Massachusetts, a bunch of dashboard warnings suddenly came on. Luckily, I was driving near Smitty's and they saw me IMMEDIATELY and made sure my car was safe to drive, all for no charge. They are LIFESAVERS. Big hearts, lots of expertise. Had my first visit there for maintenance a few weeks back. Got oil and filters changed with a tire rotation and asked them to check brakes and fluids. I asked if I needed a tune-up, they said not yet, I like they didn't take advantage. Reasonable prices, could have saved money going to a lube shop, but wanted real mechanic looking around. Only potential negative is that they were very busy, I had to drop my car off Friday and pick it up Saturday afternoon, but I look at that as a sign they're good mechanics with so much business, and considering I was a first-timer, I can understand I wasn't pushed to the front of the line. read more

This is the only place I take my car for a repair. I have a Toyota with over 100k miles and they've kept it running. Toyota wanted to charge me over $2000 for a repair and I took it to these guys and they saved me over $1600! I can't complain,before you go, call and make an appointment. I just made the mistake of towing my vehicle to Smitty's because I had previously used his station for repairs. Upon calling today, 24 hours after having my vehicle I was rudely told that I would have to wait until he had time to look at my vehicle. I was interrupting his schedule of previously made appointments with his preferred customers. Of course Gieco towed my vehicle and we are down to one car, my husband catches the train to NYC and I work in Wilton. I was rudely told that I must basically wait until he gets around to looking at it, possibly sometime up to 6pm today, they've had my car since 10am yesterday morning. Excellent customer service and rudeness on the phone by both Dave and associate. Sorry, but I am pretty bitter about not knowing when my car will be fixed, so I am held hostage by Smittys right now!!!!!!!!!!! read more

This is the best group of mechanics i have ever dealt with. I brought them a car that i was told needed $,2,000 worth of electrical repairs and they proceeded to diagnose it and fix it for under $300. In the 10 years since then, I have never regretted bringing them any of my families cars ( we have 4 autos of varying age and condition), they always accurately diagnose the problems and spell out the exact cost prior to repair. Do not recommend. Made the mistake of bringing my car to Smitty's for a simple oil change. Several days after, noticed my car was leaking oil. Brought to someone who checked it and said wrong gasket had been used, and it was leaking badly & needed to be repaired ASAP. Tried to get in next day, Dave the owner was SUPER RUDE about fitting me in, ironic as it was his mechanic that compromised my (almost brand new) car. I soon thereafter recalled that years ago, they almost let me drive off their lot with a broken brake cable (I had brought the vehicle in for a brake REPAIR). Again, DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

So....I have a consistent issue with my tires losing air especially when the tempature changes outside. Well try to find a service center that actually gives service. I have gone to Smittys at least 5 different times and the guys there always check my tires and fill them with air to the correct pressure. Stopped in with with my dad - he had a flat tire and was just about to head off on a 300+ mi. trip. Smitty's (family owned, started in 1950) got him in pretty quick - maybe a 15 minute wait and found a nail in the tire. Didn't cost much to have it fixed, and my dad (an old timer) was impressed with the folks and the service and that's good enough for me. I was towed to Smitty's by a super friendly tow truck driver, after my serpentine belt had snapped. He said, "Smitty will take care of you." He certainly did. I still had another 200 mi. to go to get back home, and the last thing I wanted was to hang out and wait for car repair. His garage was full, but he started working on my car outside. All the employees I spoke with were very professional and down to earth. I already knew a little about what was going on with the car and so when discussing what could or could not be wrong, I never felt like I was being taken for a ride. It was a simple fix and they never tried to add on any other useless repairs to make more money. They fee was super reasonable too. If I ever break down again, I hope I'm close to this place. read more

Laz S. Many places put a "dummy" charge of $1 when a credit card is used to verify that the card is valid. Then shortly afterwards, the $1 charge is reversed. Maybe that is what you saw ?? This places charges you $1 every time you put your credit card into the gas pump regardless of whether or not you pumped gas. On top of that they have the nerve to charge $0.20 extra per gallon of gas. read more

We got a flat tire and found Smitty's garage online. The person who answered the phone was very polite. Sean came out within 15 minutes and changed our tire very efficiently. He patiently answered my son's numerous questions about lug nuts, donut tires, car jacks, rims, etc. Very professional and reasonably priced. read more

I was recommended to this place from a co worker while arriving I realized it was the same place my father use to go to. I needed an estimate on my van for front end work that was badly needed. The customer service was horrible. The van sat for 5 days then the estimate they gave me was outrageous. I decided to bring the van to another garage they informed that van had been damaged and not by them the only place I brought the van to was here so they had to have know. It was damaged and did t say anything. Very unprofessional felt rushed . Go somewhere else. Waste of time read more

So honest that I have taken my car in 2 times over 15 years and they have run tests, explained why I didn't need service, offered me some invaluable advice (get new tires and suggested what kind to buy) and charged NOTHING. their customer service when you walk in and talk over the phone is great but the last two cars that i have bought used i have taken them there to get checked and when it comes out i have more problems, even worse then the head gaskets go on both? thats weird to me and two of my friends told me (late) that they know a couple of people that have had the same problems. funny that everything was fine with this car and i get it back after getting a non engine problem fixed then i have all these other issues. the dealer was the first to say the engine was ok 3 weeks before i took it to smitty's because it was easier location wise smh i know better now! i miss my old mechanic on route 7 =( hard to find honest mechanics read more
