I also gave the chicken and waffles a try once, and it was okay, but not something I'd come back for specifically. The diner itself is pretty average overall. The food is nothing special, and it's not really a place I'd go out of my way for. That said, I do like the atmosphere--it has that classic, laid-back diner feel, especially late at night, which is probably the best part about it. I just wish the pricing felt a little more reasonable--around $10-$20 per meal would make a lot more sense for what you're getting. One thing that really stands out (not in a good way) is the payment situation. If you're planning to eat here, only pay with cash at all costs. The service fees when using a card are higher than expected and feel unnecessary, which definitely takes away from the experience. Place looks crowded for Sunday but once I got my food it was disappointing, French toast was dry, let it dipped more time in batter or your mix for it, also add some spices or flavor to it, please get rid off this little plastic containers of milk I know is cheaper and less waist but I will prefer real milk in cups. I've realized that a lot of diners that I used to go to in Brooklyn have closed and that's unfortunate. I remembered going to Cross Bay diner with my ex one time and decided it was time to make another visit. There's just something nostalgic about eating at a diner that warms my heart. I actually went 2 weeks ago with my family and had a wonderful experience and decided to have a mother/daughter day a few days ago. Our favorite waitress, Indira was there. I hope I spelled her name right. First, they have ample parking and the dining area is spacious. We ordered pancakes, French toast and of course all the things that go with a hearty breakfast...eggs, sausage and a side of home fries. Let me just say, this is the only restaurant that cooks my eggs just the way I like it so that's definitely a plus. I think this is going to become my favorite and go to diner from now on. So my daughter and I came here to have lunch we both ordered grilled cheese sandwiches with fresh tomato, coleslaw, french fries, coffee, Coke, and ice tea. Aleaf was our server, and he was excellent. It looks like they gave Cross Bay diner, a facelift, because everything is new fresh an updated. My husband ordered their silver dollar pancakes, which is his absolute favorite until he had a bit of my pancake tacos. She told us not everything is on the menu so that was really kind of her to go out of her way to show us what they had. This diner has a baker who does all the baking in-house. I ordered a chocolate mousse (she told me it was good) and he ordered a slice of apple pie. The chocolate mousse was divine. I will say that it's the best I've ever had in my life. I may live in Long Island but I'll be going back as often as I can for it. Without seeing what was available, I probably would've asked for a slice of strawberry shortcake. I'm very grateful for the recommendation! The diner was very clean. I didn't see anyone picking at their skin, nose, or playing with their or each other's hair. People, pay attention to those who are handling your food! A lot can happen. As you all know, I judge a place by their cleanliness as well. The restroom was very clean. Since we were there around 10PM, I can't comment on the parking and the noise level of the diner for other times. There were plenty of parking in their lot but I'm sure you can find street parking if it's full. The diner was fairly quiet compared to most. Too expensive, food is wack, and they charge extra for everything on the menu if you aren't paying cash, even debit cards are being charged for credit card fees which was illegal in NY State up until recently. I used to pay $40 tops for breakfast for 2 people only up until about less than a year ago. Now it's $60 for 2 people to have breakfast. However, I was disappointed to witness the general manager or owner, a bald white man yelling and using profanity toward some staff members in the kitchen. I've always loved this place - I've been coming here for over 20 years but the prices have gotten a little steep lately & depending on the day or the time the food can be great or just plain mediocre. The servers are typically pleasant and attentive and I always love the painted decor on the windows. My favorite thing on the menu is the chipotle chicken Panini with buffalo fries. Unfortunately the last few times I'd gotten the buffalo fries, they hadn't put nearly enough buffalo sauce to be able to even taste the spice.
