Nachos... just store bought chips and salsa.

I'm not sure how I feel about this restaurant. It was a bit of a let down. We stumbled upon cross creek inn on the way to round hill and decided to try it out for dinner. Upon walking in I was impressed just from the decorations and atmosphere. I definitely thought we were going to have a great meal. The place was nicely painted and had life sized wizard of oz statues which were pretty neat. No-one greeted us when we walked in so after a few minutes we had a seat. The waitress came over and brought us menus, which were printed on computer paper. My first thought was the prices were a tad more than I thought they would be. 7 dollars for frozen to fried cheesesticks, 14 dollars for 3 chicken fajitas... We ordered out food and we waited, and waited. My daughter dropped a crayon under the table and while picking it up i noticed an old plastic pepsi cup and napkin under the table. My friend first got his nachos he picked as his side for his meal, they were just store bought chips and salsa. Then we waited some more. It took a half hour to get out food and we were the only table. I got mine, a chicken salad, before my friend got his chicken fajitas. The salad was okay but nothing memorable. About ten minutes later my friend got his meal, he wasn't impressed either. Our bill came to 30 dollars. Took about an hour on a half overall.

Lousy! First of all, we were not greeted when we came in. The boisterous bartender was deep in a conversation with someone at the bar and I had to finally interrupt her to know whether we should wait to be seated. A nearby waitress yelled...you can put these two tables together. Not let ME help you... just had US move tables and chairs as we had a party of 7. Let's talk about the 9.99 buffet. Paper plates, plastic forks and a messy station. No knives to cut your food up. Just a bunch of grilled kielbasa , burnt hot dogs and DRY pulled pork. Pork chops that were as hard as a brick. A long line of people with food running out by the time you had your turn. The dessert was thinly sliced watermelon with some grapes thrown in the watery messy bowl. And a blob of chocolate pudding. Every once in a while the waitress would throw the food into the chafing dishes to replenish. Probably one of the WORST places I have ever been to. And their was no menu, you HAD to get the buffet. Just all around a very BAD place. All I could think of is that I would of rather eaten a Little Caesars Pizza. Yuck!

How did I not know this place was here? We were in Monongahela for my wife's doctors appointment…read moretoday and saw that this place was a 4.5 star rating. We arrived around 1 PM and was seated immediately inside. They put a nice outside deck on and the owner informed us that they don't have enough staff to open the outside deck. The pandemic has been difficult on all businesses finding employees. Our food was arrived timely. Staff was kind, respectful and knowledgeable. Menu prices have increased since last year due to the pandemic. However, the quality of the food that we got was excellent. My wife said her sweet potato fries were the best that she has ever had in her life! My ribs, fries and baked beans were excellent. Our strawberry cake was huge and we had to take it to go!!! Enjoy!!!

Car and truck noise from adjoining road was pretty loud at times. Extensive menu based around smoked or fried food. We enjoyed 3 different menu items. Servings were very generous and tasty. I had a brisket salad. Veggies were fresh and chopped so it was easy to eat. Brisket had great taste and smoke ring but was not cooked long enough to be tender. My expectations that the meat would be shredded but brisket was sliced and tough. Fried onion rings were a surprise as well as the fried potato wedges. Chicken salad salad was similar. The hamburger was very thick so she cut in half. It would have been easier to have requested to be cut in kitchen. It was good enough that I would return but not good enough that I've would seek it out.

And trust me, they sell out quick. Too bad they don't sell on Sundays like before a Steelers game (hint, hint),...or later in the evening for dinner (hint, hint). First, thank you to all of the workers wearing masks. I'll always support those local businesses that actually care about their customers and each other. Plus, the staff there is super friendly. Second, while it's great for their business, I'm not a big fan of their "call in" orders. Reason? You can be standing in line, looking at their menu, decide what you want, your salivating glands start their engines,...and one of the workers will come up to the menu board and wipe away a menu item you had your eyes on. Sorry Marty,...just a personal "beef." (Get it?) First stop, we got the buy-two-get-one pork chops ($14) and the half chicken ($8), each swimming in their BBQ sauce,...maybe a little too much sauce but they are generous in that respect. Now, I'm not sure what happened here. But I may have made a mistake by buying these around noon time then saving them for dinner. The chops were both fairly big and thick. We ended up reheating them in the microwave; not sure if this is what did it or they were just overcooked on the grill but the chops were really dry. As for the chicken? It was worse. Unfortunately, it appeared to be slightly under cooked, and the skin was leathery (again, possibly due to reheating in the microwave). The sauce? I got mild on the chops and hot on the chicken, and frankly we couldn't tell the difference between the two (maybe they made a mistake and gave us mild on both). Honestly, we just didn't enjoy the chops and the chicken, but to be fair, it may have been better eating these straight off the grill. Second trip, we had the hot pepper cheese kielbasa ($3.50), the ¼ lb cheese dog ($2.75), and the 1 lb sausage sandwich ($9). The buns are served on the side (a nice touch so things don't get soggy). Things were a lot better this time. We liked the kielbasa - good flavor, nice snap to it. Worth the price. The cheese dog was OK. Sliced down the middle with what looks like American cheese mixed throughout. The lighter shade meat looks like a mix (pork, chicken, whatever); I'm guessing it wasn't 100% beef. We really liked the 1 lb sausage sandwich. Y'know how some places say they have hot sausage, then you bite into and there's nothing? Well, this sausage actually has some spice to it! Top it with their hot sauce and now you've got something. We actually split it into three's and it was well worth the price. The extra large bun they provide was much appreciated. The sauce the second time around was also much better and easily discernible. The mild sauce on the kielbasa and cheese dog had little more peppery bite to it than the last go 'round, but the hot sauce definitely lived up to its name. Third go 'round we got the ribs (half slab - $14) and the pulled pork (1/2 lb - $6). If you order the ribs, you're gonna need the sauce. We tried eating them without the sauce,...and all we tasted was charcoal. We'll put this on the "DOA" list ("Don't Order Again"). The pulled pork was a different story - THAT, my friends, was some good stuff. I'd recommend asking them for an extra bun for this order. You can definitely get two nice sized sandwiches out of what they give you. Or, head to Foodland next door, pick up some slider buns, and share the love with your friends and family. You can get the sauce served on the side in a relatively large in a container with your choice of mild or hot sauce. We had extra so we froze it, thawed it out and served it on some homemade wings (hint, hint). I was leaning towards giving them a 3 out of 5, but based on their customer service and me possibly making a mistake reheating the chops and chicken in the microwave, I decided to give them a 4/5. The reason - I always ask myself this question,... Would I go back? I actually would,...but I'm going there with the philosophy "if it ain't going on a bun, I ain't ordering it."
