How did I not know this place was here? We were in Monongahela for my wife's doctors appointment today and saw that this place was a 4.5 star rating. We arrived around 1 PM and was seated immediately inside. They put a nice outside deck on and the owner informed us that they don't have enough staff to open the outside deck. The pandemic has been difficult on all businesses finding employees. Our food was arrived timely. Staff was kind, respectful and knowledgeable. Menu prices have increased since last year due to the pandemic. However, the quality of the food that we got was excellent. My wife said her sweet potato fries were the best that she has ever had in her life! My ribs, fries and baked beans were excellent. Our strawberry cake was huge and we had to take it to go!!! Chain restaurant but staff makes it feel like a local restaurant. Outside patio is large and covered. The weather cooperated by being sunny with a breeze. Car and truck noise from adjoining road was pretty loud at times. Extensive menu based around smoked or fried food. We enjoyed 3 different menu items. Servings were very generous and tasty. I had a brisket salad. Veggies were fresh and chopped so it was easy to eat. Brisket had great taste and smoke ring but was not cooked long enough to be tender. My expectations that the meat would be shredded but brisket was sliced and tough. Fried onion rings were a surprise as well as the fried potato wedges. Chicken salad salad was similar. The hamburger was very thick so she cut in half. It would have been easier to have requested to be cut in kitchen. Great BBQ!! We stumbled upon Hog Father's on our way back to Pittsburgh from Morgantown. We were able to grab a table on the deck with no wait for an early Sunday dinner. The service was friendly and attentive the entire meal. Most importantly, the BBQ was FANTASTIC. I got a half rack of ribs and the meat was so tender I could just peel it off the bone. My husband got the brisket which was thin, lean and crispy (so a bit of a departure from fatty brisket) and tasty! The mains come with 2 sides, so we split the Mac and cheese, baked beans, fries, and coleslaw. All of them were good, but the meat was the main attraction for us. So glad we stopped in! read more

So, I'm doing some work in Donora and need a place for dinner that isn't fast food but also not your typical diner. A guy at Lowe's recommended Hog Fathers in Monogahela, so, off I go. It's a nice little place right off the road, so you gotta look for it. Comfortable and casual. Not too many other folks; maybe a dozen. I got a half slab of their baby back ribs, coleslaw and baked beans. The ribs were fine really well; smoked, not baked. Fall-off-the-bone tender and had their sauce caramelized on them. I liked the sauce but my wife wouldn't. She's not into "sweet" barbecue sauces. Baked beans were really good by my taste. The coleslaw was "different ". Not sweet; not tangy/ vinegary. Interestingly different. I'll be back. It was a really pleasant and delicious meal in a relaxing atmosphere. I think I'll try their St. Louis ribs next. read more

My lunch party of 7 tried seven different items. All agreed they were delicious! This was a first visit for four of us and we all look forward to returning very soon. Worth a trip from the Burgh. Top of the line BBQ. The pork was great, had a southern tang to it. The fries were seasoned to perfection. We also had the chicken and ribs and I would put this up against the tops in Tennessee and Texas. The staff was friendly and had our ordered prepared exactly as ordered when I arrived to pick it up. The location looked like an awesome atmosphere if it were fully functional for bars and events. Their sweet tea was southern style and tasted incredible. Ordered Baby Back Ribs, worst I ever tasted. They were so tough and undercooked, I had to cut them apart with a knife. Even then, they had no flavor. Wasted $84.00 dollars of my money. Just opened a few days ago,very good food,and attentive wait staff. I got the country fried steak,and my daughter got a burger. I've ate hog fathers bbq multiple times and I love it every time. This was my first time at the restaurant and I was not disappointed. Monongahela needed another restaurant that had good food and a bar. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and cornbread. They were both delicious my sandwich was huge I had to bring it home I couldn't finish it all. We also ordered the pulled pork nachos and they come with gauc, salsa and sour cream. The nachos were a meal themselves they are perfect if you wanted to have a few drinks and just order something to much on. I definitely will be back to eat here! read more

I stopped in for lunch and ordered the beef bbq sandwich, baked beans, and Mac & cheese. The sandwich had a little too many onions for my personal preference, it was good though. The baked beans were also ok. The Mac & cheese was way below average, very greasy....stay away from the Mac & cheese...I would give this place another shot. So done with this restaurant. I used to love Hog Father's in Washington, ever since this Monongahela location opened service and food is lacking. Our waitress didn't seem to have a clue about anything. Out of beer choices at 5pm, said you were out for today. REALLY??? Ordered a burger, the damn thing had so much mustard on it, it was inedible. The manager who was cooking was back there on his cell phone the entire time he was cooking, no wonder he wasn't paying attention. Then comes out and asks how our food was. I can't possibly rate this place with anything less than a 5. The food was amazing and served in a timely manor by very hands on staff who all helped to run food. They have a beautiful bar that is now operational and the atmosphere is very clean and bright. Our ONLY complaints were that 1. We were food coma patients afterwards, and 2. OMG ordered burgers and fries. They came buns were charred black so was was the burger itself. Guess we should have left when they only had 2 types of beer and only coconut rum. One was a cheeseburger, they didn't have American cheese, only pepper jack and Swiss cheese. Waitress was very nice plus only 2 waitresses, poor girls. The manager said she was busy cooking a lot of food. And kept asking how we ordered them. I replied not burnt. She said that's how buns get on the grill. Nor did she offer to remake them. Honestly probably some of the worst food I've had. My shrimp was not wrapped in bacon, or JUMBO, like the menu said, and I didn't get sweet potato fries. like the menu also said. I received what was a mixed up order the employee laughed when I told him he ruined my meal. Speaking with kendal I assume is her name she started telling me she heard me swearing at the employee. Which I did not so I asked for the owners name she handed me to a Josh which I explained what was going on he to stated I was swearing and yelling . When I asked for the owners name he stated they didn't know the owners name and that it's a franchise. I found out the owners name. I called down to get the names of who I talked with they stated they were not allow to give even first names out and I stated I needed to give the names to the owner they stated they already talked with the owner and that he is on their side and then, they hung up on me . Then I talked with the owner he said . My employees do not need the f -bomb used on them to which he would not let me get a word in at all. So the customer in this store is no where near right . Worst experience ever, and hour to get into a half empty restaurant. People seated after us got their food before we got an appetizer, but we got an appetizer with half of our food before I even got a glass of water, very confronts staff and management, very unconcerned with their mistakes and bad service, will never go back.
