Yellow Curry (did not order this...?)
    Elle B.

Based on the positive reviews and a few friends' recommendations, we ventured out to Cross Roads Bistro on a whim one rainy night and weren't at all impressed. The tiny parking lot was packed. Upon entering the restaurant, about half the tables were occupied while the rest were piled high with dirty dishes and clutter. The number of patrons dropped substantially while we were here, the dishes did not. There appeared to be two servers on shift. Ours was a total trip, y'all. Ordering was chaotic and confusing because she clearly was not familiar with the admittedly expansive menu, but on top of that she was spouting off total nonsense - our friend asked for his burger medium and she told him they only come in one size (...?!?) Skipping ahead to food actually coming to the table, it took 4 tries to actually get everything out correctly. I was served something I did not order and honestly thought she misunderstood me somehow, then she swapped it out with what I did order and served the first dish to another table (EEW!) The side orders came much later than the entrees and the condiments took her two tries to get right. We were shocked when she split our check appropriately without being asked. Between the four of us that evening, we ordered from a few parts of the menu to get an idea of what was up. My fiancé was pleased with his fried rice, but I was pretty underwhelmed by their beloved Evil Jungle Prince curry. It had no flavor and sat on an overwhelming portion of cabbage. The American food was totally frozen/premade that they heated up - bets on Bubba burgers. The table consensus was meh. Pricing is affordable for average portions. Everything was edible, but not particularly enjoyable. One of our friends had been here before and I don't think it measured up to his memories either. He did mention his previous visits were for breakfast, maybe that makes a difference. We might come back to try that, but it won't be for a while.

    Massaman Steak

Cross Roads Bistro is not your typical Asian restaurant, they have one of the biggest menus I have seen including an entire western foods menu. I had a tough time choosing what to get but settled on the massaman steak and pot stickers while my best friend got the chicken and eggplant and Kani salad. We both asked for extra spicy and were sadly disappointed when neither of our entrees even struck us as mildly spicy, but we do in fairness have pretty high spice tolerance. The pot stickers tasted pretty similar to what you might expect from frozen and thrown in oil dumplings and the Kani salad was also kind of disappointing and soggy. The entrees despite being sadly mild both provided excellent flavors and were very decently proportioned. I'd definitely recommend if you come here for the first time you try the chicken egg plant because it definitely was the highlight of the meal. We will definitely return and try more of the expansive menu and just explain next time that when we say extra spicy we mean, "would put most people on the floor"

What do I want in a restaurant I need to eat eggs I need pancakes I need Asian food I need fresh and juicy burgers. All right that's everything for throughout the day.... this restaurant has it all. Like Everything under one roof. And guess what everything taste exactly what you will expect. The cook is great in cooking. I have been to this place multiple times past couple of months. I love their Evil jungle chicken in both lunch as well as the dinner portion. My wife usually gets one vegetarian roll and red curry. I feel dumb to ask for more curry but trust me they don't give you a good amount of curry. You can buy for $2. Which I feel is a lot considering the dinner portion is huge. May be they increase the cost of the curry and not charge extra. But any who, I go back there again and again. Also another Thing I don't like is the curry needs a sealed container but they are cheap and don't give you a good to go containers but if you're dining in its nice and recommended. I will go back there anyways its a good restaurant on SW side. Also it used to be Thai moon

I ordered some Thai food for takeout today and it was DELICIOUS! I'm glad they still make their Asian food from Thai Moon. It's seriously the best in Cedar Rapids! It's a rare gem to find a place that specializes in American AND Thai food. There's always a dish for someone here. My "go-to" order is always Evil Jungle Prince with chicken. The chicken with the amazing curry sauce and shredded cabbage is heaven. I haven't had it in over a year because I was gone and it's still amazing! Kudos to this place for keeping its amazing Thai food and adding on American food for a more diverse crowd!

Tried the Shanghai Style Spring rolls for the first time. Couple of mini tomahawks showed up in that wax paper bag. I mean I'm over here looking at a maki roll with pieces of tuna so big it looks like they wrapped a roll of nickels in rice and nori. Their level of quality is has gotten so high I'm not sure they're capable of making a mistake let alone a bad dish. 03/08 Update New week. New order from the folks on the SW side. I've admittedly had this arrow in my quiver for a while but can't drop another review too soon and throw exclusive vibes. Don't get me wrong I have strong feelings but I am also low-key into Pho House. What can I say? I guess I'm a House guy. Anyhow, had an eye doctor appointment down the street (shoutout Dr. Fitz. SW side legend in the eye health space) so it was no brainer takeout time. Snuck the order in quick after battling through the little air puff machine. Food was ready in 20 minutes. Somehow you can get speed, quality, and value under one roof. It's immaculate. Since we're here it's probably the right time to discuss depth because this menu has a lot of it. In the interest of transparency I did have the Tuna Maki roll again. I have it every time. It's simple and it's beautiful. If you're the reading type and get deep enough into the menu you'll find the find Pad Thai. You might be thinking to yourself, "Are they really this agile?!" If you asked I think you already know the answer to the question. Order the Pad Thai. Trust me. And while you're at it grab a Shrimp Tempura roll, too. The eel sauce will have you in your feelings after one bite.
