I wouldnt necessarily go there to shop for shirts or hats (because I like the feeling of new clothes), but why would I spend $200 on a pair of jeans when I could spend $20-40 on the same pair (except recycled)? Mama loves a good consignment store. If you buy too many clothes, eventually you will need to get rid of some. Or many. This place takes your gently worn friends and either gives you cash or credit, or if they don't want them, they will still keep them and donate them for you. A terrific biz model. Bravo. The pickers obviously have a keen eye, as their unique pieces are usually fabulous, and their extras from shops (things that there are many of) are pretty decent, too. See through blouses and colorful blazers galore. My steeze. Their jewelry selection is cheap and decent, second hand pieces for all aside from earrings. Three cheers for hygiene. Why not five stars? I've lived near this location for almost 7 years. It used to be great - a mix of stylish/timeless stuff, great selection of designer jeans, fair prices on trade-ins. Sadly, it's devolved into total hipster-ville. Cheap, poorly-fitting stuff that you'll throw away in 2 years and look back wondering how you thought it looked good. And not sure what happened to the formerly great denim selection, it's now a bunch of cheap stuff. The nail in the coffin for me was when I came in to sell a bag of about 10 things over the weekend - and the hipster girl rejected ALL of my items. The irony was that about half of it was stuff I'd bought there in the first place, not that long ago. The other half was great condition designer denim (that I'm only parting with due to gaining a little weight). Somehow I feel like if i'd walked in dressed in skinny jeans and a plaid shirt (rather than my weekend workout/running errand attire) I'd have had better luck. Won't be coming back. I like this store for the collection of clothes and the prices but I've never felt good about the service I've gotten here while selling clothes. I always leave feeling like the people who work here have their noses in the air. Today I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had there and Im going elsewhere now to buy and sell clothes unless the situation gets resolved. I sold clothes today and aside from not getting nearly the amount the clothes were worth, I also did not get part of the money that was supposed to be given to me and that spoiled the whole experience. After getting home and pulling out the money to realize I am missing a five dollar bill, I go back to check and see if there was a mix up. First, after i talk to the person on the cashier, she tells me the manager knows I am there and will help me when she is done with someone. I wait there for her to be done and after she is done she goes on working on some other thing. So I decide to see how long it will take with her and leave then come back. I come back later and the manager is not there so I speak to another cashier. As I tell her the situation she inevitably begins questioning why I did not say something right away and I begin getting the vibe that she thinks I came here to get more out of them, of course no one there will take responsibility for the fact that there was a mix up. When I leave a store, i expect to have my change, end of story. If they want to present themselves as a well run business they will follow through as well run business and that should be expected. So after she scorches me for not checking twice to see if the money is there as if its my problem that this happened, i already know they are not putting any effort into really checking to see if there is a mix up. The cashier i spoke to the second time also spoke to the guy who did not give me the full amount, and i hear him laugh about the situation. I wait and although she told me the cash was even in the drawer I do not feel like they actually checked the drawer or would even get past their pride to check and see if there was a mix up. From now on, Im going to Buffalo exchange and the clothing exchange place closer to the castro on market to sell and buy clothes. read more

This is a decent place to buy/sell used clothes. It's in a walkable area, across from the Safeway on Church/Market. The store is bigger than the one in the Sunset, and generally clean. It's about as organized as you'd expect from a used clothing store. They have equal number women's and men's clothes, though I think their men's selection is better (probably because this is the Castro). They have shoes, handbags, backpacks, belts, hats and other accessories. My main complaint is that they carry far too many H&M and Forever21 brand clothing. I'm sorry, but those clothes are cheap (and a little crappy) as it is. I'd rather not buy a used H&M blouse. The prices for those brands are also way higher than they should be. The selling experience was just fine. Again, I don't understand why they buy so many H&M and Forever21 clothes but reject some other much better brands. But don't take it so personally if they don't buy your outdated fashion. I saw too many people get butthurt over their clothes not getting bought. Given the high volume of people trying to sell their clothes, there's no way you're going to sell your entire bag of Goodwill castoffs. Getting sensitive because Crossroads won't buy your bell bottoms and halter tops is for wussies. The woman who I dealt with was very pleasant and sweet. I thought I would find a lot of clothes I like here. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I ain't the biggest guy around, so I often buy womens shirts and jackets. Yeah yeah, whatever, I look good motherfuckers, haha. My days of buying women's pants are long gone. I tried it and that shit does not work for me. Having my balls crushed and my ass crack show when I sat down, man I felt like such a fruitcake. Never again. Best to look online ahead of time to see what kind of clothes they are taking to better equip yourself for the trip out to Crossroads. Sometimes you can come up the same weight in the wallet. This place is good for buying/selling casual wear and some vintage pieces. However, if you're a high-end consignment buyer/seller, I'd recommend Sui Generis up the street. Examples of brands I often see at Crossroads: Juicy, Cynthia Steffe, Anthropologie (pretty much every line), Theory, Banana Republic, Joe's. Pros: the sales people are all super nice. The section at the very front is new-with-tags. Items occasionally get marked down to 1/2 off. I've never waited for a dressing room. Cons: long selling wait times. Buyer credit is only 35% if you choose cash (versus 50% for store credit). There are a ton of lesser quality labels (think Forever 21 and H&M). Visited 7/11 at 12:20pm...Not greeted or smiled at by two girls at front counter who looked up at me I was there over an hour waiting for them to look at my clothes (only 2 people ahead of me on the list and there were THREE buyers)...they seemed more involved in gossiping about their friend's photos on Instagram...real high school vibe here although most of the clientele seem to be gay men in early thirties. The guy (Latino looking one) who looked at my clothes was nice but took an hour to go through my one big bag of stuff...either extremely meticulous or Crossroads has a new policy if making people wait longer to seem busy or something. That's ridiculous...people have places to be and remember, it's a thrift store (tons of the stock was cheap Forever 21 stuff)! Like most consignment stores, this place is hit or miss. I've found a few great items here at amazing prices including a See by Chloe wallet and a Diesel watch (both $35) and a brand new pair of Lanvin flats. I've also spotted practically new Marc by Marc Jacobs purses, Diane von Furstenberg dresses and Gucci suits for men. Most of the high-end stuff is up front by the register but occasionally you can find something great out on the floor. This location is particularly good for men's clothing but the women's selection heavily favors smaller sizes. On the selling side, the staff is mostly friendly and helpful. As previous reviewers have noted, sometimes they don't take pieces that are clearly better than most of what's on the floor and rarely explain why. Sellers get 35% of Crossroads' price in cash or 50% of Crossroads' price in store credit. If you like the thrill of the hunt or are on a very tight budget, this place is worth a try. If you don't find anything, you can always drown your sorrows with a beer at Lucky 13 across the street. read more

So, a long time ago, my purse got caught on a rack, and I accidentally pulled it down, and then it knocked down another, and another. It was hella embarrassing, and they made sure to humiliate me. I can laugh stuff like that off, and I tried to, but they just glared and made it a big deal. I don't know how many times I said sorry, but they were super rude about it, and gave me dirty looks. Accidents, people! The prices here are okay-- the Old Navy, Forever 21, H&M pieces are generally overpriced, but the rest are mediocre. I always find something in this store. I have been to a lot of thrift stores second hand stores, but this one by far stands out to be the best. They pride themselves on high quality clothing, name brands, and some of the merchandise has not even been worn. The prices you cannot be literally it's unreal. AHHHH! I found the buy of the year at this store. Idly browsing through the half-priced rack (that's where you can buy a shirt for $6 instead of the obscene $12 charged elsewhere in the store), I saw the side of what appeared to be a pretty sweet, fitted basketball jersey. Having always secretly wanted such a thing, I pulled it out for better inspection. Whoa! It's a Dr. J -- the pinnacle of my fake vintage Sixers obsession! (for those of you who don't follow the 1983 Sixers -- I still follow them -- Dr. J is a superstar) I had dreams about this shirt, before I knew it even existed. And then God placed it on the half-priced rack at Crossroads for me to see. And the God, via Crossroads, sold it to me for $7. I've been happy and well-adjusted ever since. This store has a HUGEmongous selection of clothes -- some more buyable than others. It's clean, well-managed, and might just change your life. read more

The clothing selection is good and the staff are nice. My review is for the sneaky sign taped on the register for the additional "living wage surcharge," which -frankly- I think is BS. This is a resale store of used clothing. It's a few steps above Goodwill. If you can't afford to pay your employees a reasonable wage for being retail sales associates (not brain surgeons) than don't try to pass off that nonsense to consumers. There's plenty of places to operate a resale store in California. No other Crossroads location charges this extra 2% tax, despite (for example) the West Hollywood location that has a much greater markup on their selection of resale items. West Hollywood's city tax is greater than SF, and their locations' rent is comparably as high. To pay 10.75% tax just so retail workers can feel good about themselves is a bit overstepping on the boundaries. I'd rather go out of my way and shop elsewhere to avoid the "privilege" of coming here. read more

Definitely one of their better stores for men. They have tons of casual attire - tshirts, jeans, pullovers, etc, but a minimal career wear / formal selection. Also, a good selection of designer consignment items, including a bevy of Prada dress shoes (which seem to be a constant). As far as selling goes, this is the place to try if you are a vertically challenged male. They will buy "smaller" items (think size XS and 28 x 29 pants) that other Crossroads (ahem ... I used to love this place, went to it all the time for years. Once they moved to a larger store down the street, the clothes seemed to just get ugly. There is a much better selection for women- so speaking about the men's clothes- they're ugly. It's all that trendy twentysomething I wish I lived in the 80's tacky fashion, that those of us who were around in the 80's laugh about today. So, if you're not into that trendy 80's fauxhawk fashion (which is outdated by a few years too btw)....You'll hate the selection. Used to be you could get Kenneth Cole pants, Armani shirts, those fake vintage (50's, not 80's) shirts that cost $60 new...now all they have are 10 pairs of faded, manufacturer ripped jeans in your size, and tacky polos. If you're looking for men's clothes, there is a much better selection at the smaller store on Valencia St. (or is it mission?...near Caesar Chavez). read more

A LOT of my wardrobe comes from this store, and I tend to hit the place about once a month and go through EVERYTHING. Then I try on a dozen items (or two), and usually end up finding a few pieces. So it's definitely served me well. But it could be better by: *Separating the sweaters from the tops *Organizing by size *Losing a lot of the cheap new stuff *Providing some customer service training On that last, the staff there generally seems kind of cranky, or simply silent and not very responsive. I was in the neighborhood and stopped by this Crossroads. I've had very comical experiences at this one in the past, the staff is a bad combination of snotty and scattered. And from the likes of the way there was merchandise haphazardly on the floor (to both shoppers and worker bees -- do you treat your own home like that? Get some pride and properly put the blouse back on it's hangar and put it back on the shelf!), it has not changed much. However, what was their saving grace was that there has historically been great "Consignment" items (I've seen Chanel, YSL, Celine handbags and shoes, as examples) -- maybe I hit a bad day but when Tory Burch and Marc by Marc Jacobs is your "best" high-end items behind the counter, me thinks seller's have finally given up on this location and gone the "TheRealReal" route. It's too bad because with the updated storefront, new hardwood floors, logo and layout of the store, this location looks beautiful (hence the additional star) -- just too bad they don't have the merch to match. read more

Fabulous Frenzy: Sweetie Darlings, as I continue to replenish my wardrobe, I stepped into the Crossroads Trading Company to resume the hunt for fabuliciousnes. Even though I had previously passed this business several times, I did not think to venture in. One fine day, I entered the hunting grounds. You may well ask: Why do I call this a hunting ground? I call this business a hunting ground because the abundance of inventory is overwhelming. I walk in and find fields of thrift and vintage apparel, almost flooding my senses with high fabulocity. The first couple of times I visited the Market Street Crossroads Trading Company (CTC), I left empty handed. However, after I became more familiar with the layout, I started to hone in on my prey. I tend to hunt for upper body garments such as jackets, blazers and shirts. On my third safari, I cornered a dark brown wool jacket from J. Crew. I kept the garment in my sights as I circled. I was uncertain if it would fit my transformed frame (see my review of Fitness Matrix SF), but I could not let this prey escape until I knew for certain. As I pounced on the jacket, I discovered it was labeled PXS, petite extra small. I suspected it would be too tight, but I wanted a thorough inspection. You can imagine my delight when it fit. I viewed myself in the mirror and drew the 360 degree perspective. Every angle was fitting properly. Then I saw the price tag and nearly lost my socks. The woolly prey was $20.00. I made it mine. The trophies did not end there. As I continued to visit the hunting grounds on a regular basis, I started to find more frugal fabuliciousness. I was able to bag several fierce jackets, blazers and shirts since my first trophy. I usually visit CTC on weekends so the grounds are full of other hunters, all feverishly rummaging the expansive selection. The place can seem chaotic and frenzied, but the staff are always friendly and pleasant. I just ignore the trend trackers and concentrate on my own quarry, and I have been successful. Should you prefer a quiet and intimate setting to find fabulocity, this may not be the place for you. You may do better in a thrift boutique (see my review of 31 Rax). However, if you have no qualms about entering an arena with volumes upon volumes of fabulous to sift and crowds of people to combat for the fiercest fashions, then head over to your nearest Crossroads Trading Company. Fight through the fabulicious frenzy and claim your trophies! read more

Recommendation: Expensive side of thrift stores, but great selection and well-organized. Don't let this store sway the price you expect for used clothes! Crossroads is definitely on the high end of thrift shops. Lots of good style choices, clothes are split up on the racks by style (jackets, sweaters, shirts, skirts, etc.) and not only that, they are organized by size, and then also color. So, all the blues are together in the Smalls, and all the grays are together in the Larges. There is a pretty good selection of shoes too, with many different styles but not many duplicates of the same style in different sizes. Keep that in mind! One thing I've noticed is that there is a sign by the door saying you have to check your bag, but I've walked in multiple times without ever putting my backpack down. Not sure exactly if that is an old policy or is just optional, but I'd prefer to keep my bag with me and would likely leave the store rather than put it down. All in all, I'd look at Crossroads to get an idea of the sort of thing you like and then make note of the price, and then go to a cheaper place (Buffalo Exchange, Out of the Closet, Goodwill) to try and find something similar, since most of the time those other places don't have as good of organization. read more

I'm a huge fan of thrift shopping, and have been to the haight ashbury area shops as well. Crossroads has a great selection of semi-high-end clothing (and some not, too, though so make sure to check tags) for affordable prices! They do a great job of keeping the selection good but also keeping the prices down - which is something other thriftshops sometimes don't do so well. I just recently sold a batch (50% of tag price as store credit, and 30% as cash) and used the credit to buy a few things. As a seller, you have a bit of a wait before they will actually get to you (even on a weekday afternoon) but the process is straightforward and pretty fast once they get started on your items. They take things seasonally and by trend, so make sure you bring the right articles. The staff was really friendly and helpful! read more

There is nothing I hate more than paying full price. If that makes me a cheap-skate then call me Fred Mertz. I user to walk home from work and pass Crossroads. With a wad of cash in my pocket I couldn't help but walk in and buy a cute pair of pants or a new/used shirt. Most of the time I walked in I walked out with something. I mean, where else can you buy a A&F polo for 10 dollars? or Diesel for 25 dollars? Working as a bartender I would need the cutest and trendiest clothes. However, I didn't want to go downtown and buy a Howe shirt just to have it soaked in gin at the end of the night. So I would pick up a cute top from Crossroads for about 50% less then what it would cost at Nordstrom's. Plus, if you go to the one on Market and are gay then you are in for a treat. Most of the clothes at the Market Crossroads are small or extra small, fitting the skinniest queen. Sometimes you would find Gap Kids clothes in the pile. And being a sexy (not sickly) size 30 (28 on a good day) I was able to find clothes that fit. I am sure they have clothes for you fat people, too. Also, they buy back clothes. Every two months I would get clothes that I didn't care for and go sell them back. I usually got good money for them and used the store credit to get more clothes. The store practically became my closet. It is better than thrift stores because heaven knows the hipsters have already raided all the thrift stores in the city leaving nothing good. I recommend going at then end of the month (I think people sell back their clothes to make rent) because you will always find something good. read more

This is my favorite consignment storeof the chain variety in the city. And my favorite crossroads location. I can usually find a few items here but it's hit or miss depending on if I'm in a digging mood or not. Sometimes I wonder what the buyers are thinking with some of the ridiculous crap I see for sale in here, but there are nice items as well. I scored an Anna Sui dress in here once. Also a sweet pair of white levi's among other things. They usually buy my items from me as well which is nice. I do find it humurous to watch people trying to sell their silk shirts from the 90's or nasty sequined jeans in an outdated wash and wondering why they can't get any money for them. The Best Best Best Bestest ever the most best used clothing store that exists in the Bay Area that i know of. O. M. G. This is the best Crossroads, no, the best used clothing store around this general metropolitan area. For some reason this particular location always has great brands, great style, good taste and reasonably priced clothes and shoes, and purses, and scarves and just everything. AND a fabulous mens clothing collection that exceeds any crossroads expectations. Half the store is mens, half the store is womens. Its amazing! I have purchased so many amazing gems here, a beautiful embroidered Trina Turk coat, silk dresses from amazing brands including Issa London, FRYE boots, various items form Tahari, Banana Republic, BCBG, Ella Moss and more. My most recent acquisition was a 500$ Anna Sui silk dress with an oriental motif and i paid only 20$!
