Zack is one of the best barbers I've ever seen. I can't say how much he's is absolutely amazing & a really asset to this shop. My husband & all 3 of my boys go to him. He remembers them by name & always seems happy to see them. They all have different hair types & styles & Zack does awesome with them all. He's friendly & good with kids. He's cautious & doesn't cut too short but is happy to go shorter if you'd like. He's patient with my kids when they want changes to their cuts. He takes his time & is really attentive to details. The waiting room has a bunch of antiques on display which are really cool. They have a bunch of cool toys for kids & adults (bar games, chess, checkers etc) to keep busy while you wait. Also they only take cash & do not have an atm machine in the store, you have to walk a few doors down to the Walgreens or the Wells Fargo. Once you know this it's not a big deal. read more

One of the best barber shops in San Diego! Been coming here for 10+ years now and it's the same great service every single time. All the barbers are great, just find the one you like. Zack and Rosie are typically my go tos. Walk ins are welcome, but appointments are recommended if you have a certain barber you'd like to avoid wait time for them. They now have a beer fridge if you want to sip on a brew while getting your haircut. Something that separates them from most barber shops in San Diego is the straight razor finish at the end of the haircuts where they lather hot shaving cream around the back of your neck and ears, getting rid of any leftover baby hairs and giving you a clean feel and look! I think they may raising prices soon by a few dollars, but regardless it's a good price for a quality haircut. Do not go in if your son has long hair. They can only do short haircuts. Like military high and tights. My poor sons longer hair that just needed 1.5 inches off is now completely butchered and looks like a weird mullet. Sucks hopefully it can be fixed before the first day of school. read more

Have frequented this place for some years. Crown Barber shop is as mediocre as they come. Staff is slightly below average, they mostly talk amongst themselves which is cool if you aren't a fan of small talk. The price has been steadily increasing for the past 4 years. I have asked for the same haircut every three weeks for the past 4 years and it is different every time and I have never gotten the same haircut twice. I genuinely enjoy a handful of the staff but only one of them can actually give a good haircut shout out Manny (I think that's his name). For my least favorite things about the place. Starting with the staff member Alex. This guy can't give a good haircut to save his life. If I walk in to get a haircut and he is the only person available I will just leave and return when someone else can service me. The atmosphere is trying to go for a classic barbershop but it falls short. I can count on one hand how many times I have actually liked my haircut after leaving this place. The only reason I return is because it is a convenient location for me. This place is a 2 star on its best day. I wouldn't bother even trying this place if it isn't your usual spot. I asked the lady for a mid skin fade and she gave a number one fade when I asked her about it she then changed to a skin fade but did not blend at all this is by the far the worst haircut I have received in my life. I've recommended and brought two different people here on different occasions to get their hair back into regs. The barbers are so professional and efficient. Both of their cuts turned out so nice! They offer military discount and also group discounts if you come with your homies. The seating area can be a little uncomfortable if you're waiting on someone for a while, I'd suggest waiting outside at the patios around the shop area or in your car. Parking on the street is nearly impossible so the Walgreens parking lot (metered for non-Walgreens shoppers) is your best bet. Better to call ahead and check the wait time if you don't want to go during a high time/didn't set an appt. read more

AMAZING: Best Barber Shop in California! Stopped here when we were decommissioning my old ship the USS Kitty Hawk(CV-63) in 2008. The gentleman with the handlebar mustache(Geno, I think) gave me the sharpest hair cut of my life. 3 years pass & I move from Japan to actually being stationed in San Diego in 2011. I was in need of a good cut, with some luck stumbled by this place again. This time a young lady was there & gave me a phenominal cut, & only 9 bucks for Enlisted Navy guys such as myself! Gentlemen. If you care about your face, avoid Crown Barber Shop at all costs. This was, without a doubt, the absolute WORST shave I have ever had. Even worse than the very first shave I gave my 13 year old self back in the day. I was with a wedding party of groomsmen - all of whom had some variation of the horror story below. The shave took nearly an hour (mind you, I'm not a particularly hairy guy) and while the barber was going over and over the same areas of my face he cut my lip. He proceeded to furiously wipe the wound (perhaps in hopes that it wouldn't still be bleeding when it was all over) which only made it hurt more and bleed more. When it was all over I made a trek to the men's room to inspect the damage and discovered that not only was the cut much worse than I anticipated, but that he had missed patches of hair all over my face, which was now completely raw. Not only was I maimed for my best friend's wedding - I had to purchase a disposable razor and shave again - which only made my skin more irritated. Ok, I have received good haircuts here before but today I was butchered! Misty is awesome -highly recommend. Guy with handlebar mustache same but the old man was horrible. His hands were shaking the whole time. He took like 40 minutes to screw my hair up and I was so over it at that point that I paid and just left and went down the street to get my hair fixed. I had about 3-4 inches of hair and only was asking for a tapper around the sides and the back and even out on the top. I now have a High and Tight, which was the only way to fix what the old man did. He left me with jagged uneven sideburns, really one missing, and a few lines around my head. Worst haircut of my life. read more

First time visiting Crown Barber Shop. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a lovely lady. She directed me to the waiting area and as quick I got there someone was ready to help me. The barber was able to give me an outstanding haircut and shave with almost no direction from me. I felt pampered with the warm shaving cream and the single blade shave. There is definitely something to be said about the metal against skin....and it is tantalizing. The atmosphere is very friendly. The service is on point. The haircut is perfect. This barbershop is tucked away on the main drag running through Coronado Island. I was at first skeptical of trying it out, but after seeing some other reviews on Yelp, I figured I'd give it a shop. Let me tell you, I couldn't have been happier with my decision. I had my hair cut by a little old spanish lady (i didn't get her name) who did a great job. My hair had been jacked up in 29 Palms and she was able to fix the damage that had been done the week before. They've got a great military pricing system (9 bucks for enlisted, 10 for officers) that was more than reasonable. They're very military friendly, and have pictures and flags thanking them for all the help they give to those on Coronado. They also had Direct TV playing on three different TV's with all the days games playing. The only thing that I didn't like was that it was really quiet in the shop. Call me old fashioned, but when I go to a barbershop, I like it when there is some sort of conversation between the person cutting my hair, and the others in the shop about sports, politics, whatever. My wife and I were in Coronado for the day and my beard was out of control. I walked by Crown Barber Shop to see if they had any openings for a beard trim and neck shave. They were able to take me right away! Manny was my barber and he was awesome! He was very friendly and you could tell he is a true expert in his craft. He even put beard oil on and gave me a free face mask exfoliation. I also got to meet the other barbers as well. They have all worked in the same place together for 22+ years. So if you come in without an appointment, just head to the waiting area in the back. They added TV's recently, and they've always got some sports show on. Some of them can be talkers, so if you know you're going to be in a bit of a rush, then (1) call ahead and schedule an appointment and (2) let them know that you don't have a lot of time. read more
