Trevor, my stylist for a few years now, was who I originally went to and likely will remain going to as long as he'll take me. Salon is always clean. Ability to book appointments is easy and straight forward. I feel like I'm getting a great service for the cost and I always love how my hair looks. I will also specify, I have an absolutely massive head of really, really curly hair. Trevor is able to understand my "wants" without me having any capabilities describing them in a way that probably makes any real sense, but it always ends up great. My niece and I just got amazing blow outs at Crown Envy! We got beach waves / Utah Curls! We were both so happy with the results! It's also close to Erewhon if you need a quick stop for the Hallie Bieber smoothie! It's so adorable inside! All the decor is brand new, and everyone was so nice and welcoming. The salon (formerly Hair Zoo) been completely refurbished and is under new ownership as of March 2025. I really like the vibes inside. It was also really easy to park our suv (a miracle in this area). Afterwards, we were just minutes from Santa Monica's park and pier! Our hair looked stunning in all the photos we took by the beach. Totally recommend! A reasonable price for a fantastic blow out that lasted all day! P.S. Crown Envy is also woman-owned! I got to talk to both owners. I'm not one to write a review, but when a service is THIS good, I have to let to community know! I booked a balayage and haircut with Travis, and I was welcomed by the new owners Ashleigh and Rachel! They introduced me to Travis and offered me a complimentary drink while I got situated. Travis asked me questions on what I'm looking for, and fortunately I had already looked through his Instagram to see how portfolio, so I had examples and inspiration ready to show him! The last time I had a balayage was almost 2 years ago, so I was looking to change it up to something more warm and like a "golden caramel goddess" moment . Travis took his time with the balayage and made sure everything was blended well, and the final look really shows the care he takes into his work. I mean, look at my hair transformation! (I also couldn't believe I was walking around with my old hair looking like that, how embarrassing lol) I had never been to Hairzoo before, but it looks like the salon has a change in ownership and rebranding as Crown Envy! Everyone was SO nice, and I also really loved how much the owner and Travis' coworkers were commenting and complimenting on the hair transformation process! The prices are incredibly reasonable. I usually don't take the time to write bad ones but now that I've read recent reviews from Megan and Sam, I've changed my mind. You need to know because apparently we all had the ERIC experience. Never, never, had I had such a bad cut. I was butchered. Before I could ask him to make sure my hair remained long enough to tuck behind my ears he snipped it down to the scalp in front of my eyes. It's like a man's haircut with a tuft on the top. I even went back a few days later (after calling) to ask if there was something I missed. Had he finished cutting? How did he see it? Maybe blowing it out would help? He didn't know what I was talking about. I lifted some hair in the back and pointed out that it hadn't been shaped or cut, so he just cut another chunk off. Been to this place many time over the years and highly recommend it. I've only ever gotten a blow out here from a variety of people over the years, most recently Toni and it's really lovely every time. They do a good job with the hair listening to what I want. I have seen women, men, kids and teenagers come in for haircuts and walk out looking happy. They also treat you like a special guest, offering tea, coffee, water and even champagne if you like every time you go. I walked into this zoo for humans in need of haircuts, having never been there before. I was greeted very warmly by Toni, a barbress, who was cutting the hair of a female of some advanced age. Meanwhile I was soon offered a beverage by another employee during my wait - believe it or not I was given a cold bottle of Rolling Rock. Nice! After not too long, Toni was ready for me. She couldn't have been more friendly, - "an absolute doll" as a previous reviewer put it - and was very curious wanting to know exactly how I'd like to get my hairs cut, wanting to please and help her customer. This was lucky for me as I am very PARTICULAR and have/had very unruly, thick, long hair and wanted a certain kind of layered look for which I came prepared with pics and a big pile of adjectives. Toni drank in on all the info, and UNDERSTOOD it where so many barbers in the past have not, and, well, long story short, she gave me one of the best haircuts I've had in many moons. Price for a man's haircut? $38. Might not be the cheapest, but for this area of LA, it just might be! I highly recommend this place! read more

After my last review, the salon reached out to me and invited me to come in for a free blow out. That was a very nice gesture. I initially spoke to Natali. After viewing pictures of my hair, Natalie referred me to Jeffrey. She thought he would do a better job. Jeffrey did a good job blowing out my curly hair. I was happy with the end result. I am sure I will be scheduling with him again in the near future. Also, the salon is very spacious, clean and has an upbeat decor and feel to it. It is also in Santa Monica, which is a good location. The reason I am giving the salon 4 stars in stead of 5 is because about a month ago, prior to my actual visit to the salon, I got a call from someone in NY who identified herself as Natalie and said she was calling on behalf of Hairzoo. I later found out that the person who called was not Natalie and that she was calling from HQ in NY. In any event, that person was beyond rude. I told her I was busy and up against deadlines and asked if she could call back later. Most people would have respected that and would have called back. Most people would have let me go and would not have kept me on the phone. This person said she was calling from NY and that she would not know when or how to call back. What? That was stupid. You call back the way you called me in the first instance. In any event, that person insisted that I stay on the phone with her and kept pushing even though I expressed, more than once, that it was a bad time to talk and that I was up against deadlines. Who does that? Then she had the audacity to hang up on me. I probably should have hung up on her. But I did not want to be rude. That person was beyond rude. Hairzoo really should coach people they have answering their phones or making calls on their behalf. read more
