The chicken was very tasty, delicious mashed and gravy and the mac and cheese was pretty good too. The place itself reminded me of being in an old convenience store, and I would never want to eat inside again, but I'd consider taking it to go.

No matter how you pronounce it, a gyro is a thing of beauty. Chewy dough with a tangy yogurt sauce, crisp veggies and super flavorful meat? Isn't that a recipe for success if you ever saw one? I found this place after seeing lines outside on weekends, and made a mental note to remember it next time I needed a gyro. I've been a few times now, and it was so good, yesterday I had to bring my better half along to see what I was talking about. The restaurant is nothing much to look at, with simple tables and wall coolers of drinks, but don't let that fool you. The food is solid, and the owner personally manages the front as well as does some of the cooking. He is just the nicest guy, and always remembers me by name and puts extra sauce on my gyro. Gyro meat is usually mixed like beef and lamb, and this one is well seasoned- not skimping on the serving size. I've never left hungry, and I always feel welcome and appreciated when I walk through the door. If the gyros are that good, I'm sure other things on the menu are great too, but I just can't tear myself away from the gyros to try them. Prices are competitive, service is super friendly and warm, parking is easy off west main, and serving sizes are plentiful. I will definitely be returning, and think this is one of the best, fast and local lunches on the island!

We heard a lot of great things about this place and it did not disappoint. Is it the best food I've ever had? No. But is it wonderful for a quick, filling, tasty dinner? Absolutely! I had the chicken and rice and it was perfect for what I wanted. The dish was tasty and not super frilly. Like, just the perfect amount of tasty, if that makes sense. I could t finish the whole meal in one sitting but it'll make for great leftovers for lunch tomorrow too! I'm excited to come back here and have some more dishes. The girl working seemed to be working alone up front and she was very busy but remained friendly the whole time. It was overall positive experience.

As I was looking for a place to have a nice dinner with a few coworkers, Wharf Southern Kitchen and…read moreWhiskey Bar ABSOLUTELY caught my eye. First of all, let's talk about the space. Nestled in the Wharf, it was a cute little place with both an up and downstairs. We reserved a spot for around 5:30 (in April) and it was pretty open. There weren't too customers yet, and it was nice and quiet. If you're looking for a ton of space for the seating area, I will say that there isn't too much room/it's pretty nice and cozy! At Wharf Southern Kitchen and Whiskey Bar, they've got a line of booths along the wall, a bar area right in the center and at the actual bar, a high top, another bar at one of the entrances, and a table that seats six. Now let's chat about the service. Our waitress was wonderful, patient, and was extremely helpful when asked questions and also gave SUCH wonderful suggestions. There were MANY fantastic choices on their menu and I was having a pretty difficult time narrowing down which one I really wanted, but with our waitress's help, I was able to choose pretty quickly (and they were AMAZING choices!) Now the food! The wait for the food honestly wasn't that long, and when we got it, we ABSOLUTELY CHOWED... -The Crispy Chicken Bites were AMAZING! I ended up upgrading to the Buffalo Style, and it DID NOT disappoint at all! The Bleu Cheese crumbles were just the perfect amount, and the Buffalo sauce was JUST enough to still enjoy the crispiness of the chicken. I DID ask for ranch on the side, and that just was *chef's kiss*! -I've never had fried pickles before, but I certainly have never seen a restaurant do it with whole pickles. Though it was my first time trying fried pickles, it tasted great! I wouldn't say it's anything special, but it's a great, and lighter on the fried side, appetizer! -I was having a hard time choosing what entree to enjoy, but I'M SOOOO glad that I went with the Smoked Brisket Chopped Cheese! I'm not a big brisket girl, but I will say that this was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! At first when it came out on the bun, I was a little skeptical of how it would taste, but it definitely didn't disappoint! The brisket was cooked SO well with the perfect amount of seasoning, and it all just melted so perfectly together as I was eating it. And the tater tots were SO AMAZING (though on the saltier side) and SO perfectly crispy. I've only got great things to say about Wharf Southern Kitchen & Whiskey Bar & I WILL be back here/will suggest it to my friends visiting Newport one day!

The building is fairly small but there is some indoor seating available. The ambiance isn't much to look at but it seemed clean and was all that we needed since it was to-go. They have some plasticware and to-go containers for sauces which was helpful, but you'll need your own plates. Smoked flavors were spot on and the sauces were tasty. The prices were on par with most BBQ joints (brisket isn't cheap) but I got a pretty large chunk of inedible bark included. The ribs were good and the membrane was removed but slightly less meaty than others I've had. The kielbasa had great flavor and paired perfectly with the Carolina gold sauce. I would probably go back just for that! The only sides that were available were cornbread and beans. The cornbread was cake-like and moist. We didn't try the beans. Service was a normal Gen Z interaction IYKWIM. Overall, the food was pretty good and I wouldn't hesitate to get it again if in the area. Just wish they had the full menu available.

We arrived a little early for our 4:00 p.m. reservation, and the place was already packed. While we waited by the bar, a very nice waitress took our drink order--a lemon drop martini, beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and pleasantly strong. We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless. At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. I had mine with garlic bread, while my husband chose mashed potatoes. I also added the $9.95 salad buffet, which is such a great deal--you definitely won't leave hungry. I especially love their buffet-style salad bar, which offers nearly every option one could want. Both of our ahi tuna steaks were fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Once again, I dug into my tuna before remembering to take a photo! We finished the meal with a cheesecake to share--another delicious ending to a wonderful dinner. We're already planning our next visit--there are still so many dishes and drinks we'd love to try.

Our waiter was kind, attentive, and very patient with us as we managed two hangry kids. One employee who was on break even helped me find a quiet spot to take a work call which I really appreciated. The kids' meal came out almost immediately. My son got the cheeseburger, and I was surprised by how big it was. It was adult sized, and he enjoyed and finished all of it. The mussels were the standout of the meal and the best I've personally had. They were incredibly fresh with no fishy smell and the broth was so flavorful. The bread that came with it was perfect for soaking up every last bit of the broth. The salmon was very fresh and cooked well. The shrimp scampi was also really good. The clam chowder was an 8 out of 10 for me. Not the best I've ever had but definitely one of the better ones. Pricing was mid range and felt fair for the quality of the food and the portions. Overall, we were really happy with the meal. Great service, fresh seafood, generous kids' portions, and a fun atmosphere. I'd definitely come back, especially for the mussels.

I went on a rainy Monday around noon and there was still a steady flow of customers. It seems to be a pretty popular spot. The staff is all very friendly. The soups were served to us immediately after paying. The New England Clam Chowder was good. Nice amount of clams and very creamy. I had never had Rhode Island Clam Chowder before and this seemed like the place to try it. The clear broth was surprisingly flavorful but I still prefer New England. My girlfriend and I ordered a good amount and the food came out pretty quickly. My favorite was the kung pao calamari. The squid was fried perfectly and having the sauce on the side was nice as it didn't leave the breading to get all soggy and I had control over how sweet it would be. The stuffed Quahogs tasted good but I feel like I tasted more of the stuffing over the actual shellfish. It still tasted good, but I feel like I should've gotten more shellfish. We were told they ran out of shells to serve them on so the presentation was off, but they were still tasty. The lobster rolls were both good. They were $27 which seems pretty steep to me but they were actually on the cheaper side compared to other places we saw around Newport. The lobster tasted fresh and the bread was good. They were solid lobster rolls. The food was all solid, but for the price I wasn't wowed.
