There weren't too customers yet, and it was nice and quiet. If you're looking for a ton of space for the seating area, I will say that there isn't too much room/it's pretty nice and cozy! At Wharf Southern Kitchen and Whiskey Bar, they've got a line of booths along the wall, a bar area right in the center and at the actual bar, a high top, another bar at one of the entrances, and a table that seats six. Now let's chat about the service. Our waitress was wonderful, patient, and was extremely helpful when asked questions and also gave SUCH wonderful suggestions. There were MANY fantastic choices on their menu and I was having a pretty difficult time narrowing down which one I really wanted, but with our waitress's help, I was able to choose pretty quickly (and they were AMAZING choices!) Now the food! The wait for the food honestly wasn't that long, and when we got it, we ABSOLUTELY CHOWED... -The Crispy Chicken Bites were AMAZING! I ended up upgrading to the Buffalo Style, and it DID NOT disappoint at all! The Bleu Cheese crumbles were just the perfect amount, and the Buffalo sauce was JUST enough to still enjoy the crispiness of the chicken. I DID ask for ranch on the side, and that just was *chef's kiss*! -I've never had fried pickles before, but I certainly have never seen a restaurant do it with whole pickles. Though it was my first time trying fried pickles, it tasted great! I wouldn't say it's anything special, but it's a great, and lighter on the fried side, appetizer! -I was having a hard time choosing what entree to enjoy, but I'M SOOOO glad that I went with the Smoked Brisket Chopped Cheese! I'm not a big brisket girl, but I will say that this was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! At first when it came out on the bun, I was a little skeptical of how it would taste, but it definitely didn't disappoint! The brisket was cooked SO well with the perfect amount of seasoning, and it all just melted so perfectly together as I was eating it. And the tater tots were SO AMAZING (though on the saltier side) and SO perfectly crispy. Unfortunately, the drinks were a pretty big disappointment. We asked for an original/classic Mai Tai, rather than the restaurant's interpretation or a modern spin. What we received was essentially just a glass of rum. There was very little citrus or almond/orgeat character coming through. A classic Mai Tai should have a much more balanced combination of rum, citrus, and orgeat, and the drink we received didn't come close. I also asked if they could make a Saturn. They said they could, although they couldn't make it frozen--which isn't actually an issue since a classic Saturn doesn't need to be frozen. The drink tasted fine, but it didn't really taste like a Saturn. The service itself was nice, and the staff did try to accommodate our requests, so this isn't a complaint about the people working there. That said, if a bar can't confidently execute a classic cocktail, I'd honestly rather they say so and recommend something from their menu than serve something that doesn't resemble the drink being requested. That's ultimately what left us disappointed. We weren't expecting every drink to be historically perfect, and there's absolutely room for creative tiki riffs. But if you're going to call yourself a Tiki Bar, being able to execute at least some of the foundational classics seems pretty important. The waterfront location is fun, and if you're simply looking for a fruity tropical cocktail while wandering around Newport, this might be your spot. But for someone genuinely interested in tiki cocktails, this felt more like a tourist-friendly waterfront bar serving tropical drinks than an authentic tiki bar with a serious cocktail program.

No worries, RI is a BYOB state... So I asked where is the nearest liquor store and the woman behind the counter said right across the street. I put my order in, and left and got a beautiful bottle of wine to have with my dinner. When I came back I was told that that could not be consumed on the premises. It's against the law. ???? I have been to numerous restaurants in Rhode Island that offer BYOB. We had a lively discussion... what she was telling me was inaccurate but she did not want to hear it. I was perplexed. Why would they tell me that the liquor store was across the street knowing I was going there to pick up a bottle of wine? any event read the law but I'd love to hear your comments. Becky's: "There is no such thing as BYOB in Rhode Island; Rhode Island law doesn't allow it." That's incorrect. Rhode Island DBR expressly discusses legal BYOB establishments, and Middletown's ordinance expressly recognizes them One more famous Newport BYOB deserves mention: Winner Winner was repeatedly singled out as one of Newport's best BYOB restaurants--Condé Nast Traveler specifically described it as BYOB. However, because that information is older, I would call before bringing a bottle rather than tell you it's definitely still BYOB today.And there's an important point from our Becky's discussion: I found enough current BYOB restaurants in Rhode Island to make their statement that "there's no such thing as BYOB in Rhode Island" even more clearly wrong. The building is fairly small but there is some indoor seating available. The ambiance isn't much to look at but it seemed clean and was all that we needed since it was to-go. They have some plasticware and to-go containers for sauces which was helpful, but you'll need your own plates. Smoked flavors were spot on and the sauces were tasty. The prices were on par with most BBQ joints (brisket isn't cheap) but I got a pretty large chunk of inedible bark included. The ribs were good and the membrane was removed but slightly less meaty than others I've had. The kielbasa had great flavor and paired perfectly with the Carolina gold sauce. I would probably go back just for that! The only sides that were available were cornbread and beans. The cornbread was cake-like and moist. We didn't try the beans. Service was a normal Gen Z interaction IYKWIM. Overall, the food was pretty good and I wouldn't hesitate to get it again if in the area. Just wish they had the full menu available.

It came with a special "Outback" sauce, which tasted like a spicy version of thousand island dressing sans pickles; it was quite delicious. Rings were good with or without the sauce. For my main course, I got the Plumby's Crispy Chicken BLT. This sandwich is full of flavor. Like the onion rings, the chicken was fried to perfection and not overly greasy. Vermont cheddar and bacon add a savory richness and the chipotle mayo had just the right amount of spice. I couldn't taste the tomato and arugula much so this sandwich is a good way to help you eat your veggies. I also got a side of garlic mashed potatoes which were creamy, garlicky and buttery. This place has been in Newport forever because their food is consistently satisfying. I didn't get the following dish today but I also recommend their baked stuffed shrimp. If you're a daredevil, they also have a hot wing challenge. To put it simply, this pub has something for everyone and you will undoubtedly walk away impressed.

Lately she'd been telling me about a chocolate martini from The Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant, and being the martini and chocolate fan that I am, I simply had to experience it. So I finally got a day when I could join her on a trip, and so we went there on Labor Day. Once there, we walked right in at 11:30 am, and were seated immediately. The interior is fun and interesting -- antique this and that, including a huge iron door that looks like it went to a furnace, and had embossed lettering, I believe it was Newport Highschool. Perhaps the restaurant location is where the HS coal room was originally??? Anyway, one the way to the table, the hostess said something about the soup and salad bar being over there to my right, and so I went to check it out, and once I took a gander inside the two soup containers, I grabbed a bowl of Portuguese Kale Soup and brought it to the table. Judi said "That's all you're gonna get?" And I said "Of course not, I'll grab some salad and maybe get a sandwich or something." "Oh" she said, and then got up to check out the soup and salad bar herself. Meanwhile as I'm slurping the delicious, heart y soup, loaded with chourico, potatoes, carrots, kale, beans, etc., I'm perusing the menu and I notice that it says that if you purchase a sandwich of $9 or more then you get the soup and salad bar for $10, and then the soup and salad bar alone was $18. Okay, so perhaps I just wasn't thinking about the world in which I now live that basically has you paying for the bread basket you might get served. But again, the hostess just basically slurred out something about the soup and salad bar and my brain heard that it was complimentary. I honestly have to wonder if that's part of the trick(?) to get you to go for it, and not realize that it's considered a meal in itself, and then you order a sandwich or whatever, and now you're paying twice the amount you thought you'd be paying, but hey, it's Newport and people are spending $40 on a stupid baseball cap. And so, you know, if you end up having to pay a bit too much at a restaurant, you don't make a scene, you just say "Yeah, I meant to do that". Okay, I'm trying not to be sardonic here, trying not to sound like one of those "everybody's out to get me" kind of folks, so I'll just shut up at this point, on this particular point. I just hope that the owners and/or managers will inform the hostess to be a bit more clear on what the soup and salad bar actually means. That'd be nice. So there was no way I was buying a sandwich to go along with the soup and salad bar -- I simply cannot eat as much as I did when I was in my 20's and couldn't gain a pound if I ate all day long. I was able to (slightly) save face once Judi went for the soup and salad bar herself and was satisfied with the freshness and deliciousness thereof. But the piece de resistance, the very reason we both came to this establishment in the first place ... the chocolate martini! So this martini looks nothing like you'd expect as clear as water. I believe it's got a vodka base, and then some creme de cocoa, and is showered in grated chocolate flakes. It was absolutely splendid! Nice and boozy without being overpowering, and the flavor was amazing. And then for some strange reason, Judi is looking at the dessert menu. She reads of a few of them, asking me if I'd like something like that. I keep saying "I'm pretty full Jude", but she was persistent. She especially was taken with the Ghirardelli Fudge Brownie with 4 Scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream. She said "What if we can get them to split it in half on two separate plates?" I said "Ohhhhkaayyyyy..." And our waitress said "Absolutely!" She came back with two large portions (see attached photo ... just remember, that's a picture of HALF of the dessert serving!). Oh my word! It was large and quite yummy. A nice, crunchy and soft brownie made with Ghirardelli chocolate, with plenty of walnuts therein, two lovely scoops of ice cream, all drizzled with chocolate sauce. A splendid way to cap it all off. So I'd go back again, just with the knowledge that it's EITHER the soup and salad bar OR a sammich, at least for a guy my age and size and appetite. But definitely for that lovely chocolate martini ... and maybe that fudge brownie to make it complete :)
