It didn't look right but cutting into it, it looked like chicken, but had the texture of fried tofu or a fake meat. The portions have also shrunk since I first came here. A friend and I stopped in here for dinner on a Wednesday night and we enjoyed the entire restaurant to ourselves. The service was inviting and hospitable and because of the lack of crowd we enjoyed a quiet place to converse and our food came out quickly. My aloo gobi was flavorful and well cooked. Been here twice and loved it both times! So so good to eat some simple, authentic food. Service is friendly and patient. Low key atmosphere. Menu is easy to understand and the prices are ok. May want to update posted hours on social media to reflect table service vs. take-out only. Went in at 5pm, was told they open tables at 5:30, and are only takeout now. I stopped in for lunch after seeing the 4-star reviews and I can't understand how this place is rated so high. Let's start with what was good - it looked clean and the takeout server was friendly. I saw a sign for a Curryland special by the register and it sounded good, when he told me the price I almost choked. So I asked if it was meant to feed several people and the reply was "the portions are big". So I went to my safe fallback and ordered chicken tikka masala. I'm posting pics to make my point - the chicken was very rubbery, like perfect cubes of rubber, very dry and cut far too big. Not what I expect from this dish. The portion of rice was fine and the sauce was just okay. I wouldn't order this plate again and haven't ordered anything else yet, but for the price - I think I'm going to keep looking for a spot. read more

BRO YES. This food is worth the damn wait, travel, and money. We got it to-go and ughhhh it was so good!!!!!!!! Everything is authentically flavored with the proper seasonings and spices--they know what they're doing and I'm Punjabi !!! Discovered this place during the Covid times so I've never eaten in the building. That being said when I go to pick up my food the staff is engaged and happy to be there! It's clean and now we get to the good part - the food... It's amazing. I know that's a simple statement but it's a true one. Their menu doesn't reflect one of their best dishes Bihgan Bharta (sp?) it's fantastic. So sad that this is the only game in town if you crave Indian food in the Newport area. The food is okay but the management is horrendous. This review is based on 4 separate take out / delivery orders, each of which had either something missing, an overcharge on the bill, or insufficient amount of dipping sauces, etc. Each time it happened, I would call the restaurant to report my issue and was met with nastiness on the other end of the phone. Enough is enough for me, I'd rather give up Indian food than spend another penny supporting this establishment. We are a group of 16 peoke had a wonderful dinner with quality time at this restaurant. I didn't find any reason why few reviews are so badly written. Vorot and his son attended us, very accomodative, foods were delicious and of course the space including rest rooms were cleaned. Looking forward to visit again while come to RI in future. read more

Appetizers are pretty good here. I haven't tried any of their entrees. Chili calamari, gobi 65 and chili chicken were quite good - spicy and flavorful. We are new to the area and high on our to do list - find good Indian. Our go to for judging - Saag Paneer. We also ordered an app which was veggie fritters (different name) and butter chicken. Owner is from Nepal and not Indian. the cooks may be Indian 4. The naans are authentic but may be a little more salty 5. I ordered a mild meat curry which to my chagrin was a little more on spicy -side. More of a ring burner. The stock was pretty standard , American and not authentic Indian. 6. The owner promised to include condiments and paper plates, paper napkins and plasticware as we were planning to eat at a local park. To my chagrin no 6 was completely excluded, thereby a complete washout on our plans for eating watching the sunset! So I must say the food was average. This unpretentious little Indian restaurant is a big favorite among us locals. It's usually full, but not packed, for the weekday lunch rush and there are usually some folks around at dinnertime. I'm a semi-regular, returning for lunch or dinner once or twice a month, and I've never left disappointed. I'm pretty sure it's my wife's favorite restaurant on the island. Why is this place a winner? Consistently good food, consistently friendly and attentive staff, and consistently clean and orderly surroundings. This is a real gem of Indian authenticity! Just outside of Newport and it's truly an amazing and delicious place to get lunch. The lunch buffet is $13.99 and I've been there 3 times in just under two weeks now. So, goes to show how tasty the food is there. The food was great every bit of it. The staff is friendly. The only disappointment is we ordered tandoori chicken and we notice the meat is less. We saw someone ordered in front of us and one in our back and they get a pretty good portion of same dish. I wonder if it is because there are only two of us but then the woman was all by herself and she got a decent size. I was going to complain but I would rather keep my peace. read more

Best Indian food I've ever had! The Paneer was the perfect texture and the food was so incredibly flavorful. The owner brought us rice pudding on the house and he was such a sweetheart.
