A friend recommended Aimee for a haircut. I've seen her 3 times and have loved all my haircuts. I have long, straight hair and have struggled to find a stylist that I love until Aimee. I had the worst experience at the Crown Salon. I first went to Tatum, who didn't even acknowledge me when I walked in, and made me wait about 20 minutes for my appointment after the start time passed. She could have at least said hello and let me know it would be a while (and I know she saw me come in- I was sitting 2 feet away from her). Then, she proceeded to critique my hair, and scolded me when I told her it had been 6 months since my last haircut, saying I shouldn't have waited that long. She was very unfriendly, and responded to my questions in a hostile and condescending tone. Two unrelated people passed my sit and the lady stoped and moved back to me in order to tell me that my hair looks so beautiful, that my curls look fresh and alive, she even used the word "magnificent". Tatum is just spectacular and a virtuoso of the first order. I've been so remiss in taking care of my hair since having a baby and heard of her about a year ago on GGMG. So many women were raving about her that I had to give her a try. I have to say, I've found my hair guru. She is such an active listener and really homes in on what you are saying. She wants to get it right the first time and do what YOU want, not create her own vision for you. For me, that meant hair that reminded me of the wood grain of a shiny violin propped in the sun or the kaleidoscopic glow of a burnished tortoiseshell. With Tatum's talent and balayage skills, that's exactly what I got. And her cuts are fabulous too--swingy, modern, and elegant. Stylist: I've been going to Aimee for 5 years and I can say she is an awesome stylist and colorist! She knows that I don't necessarily make the time to style my hair every day, and she will give me a cut and care advice that fits my lifestyle. Most recently, I was a week shy of getting my haircut, and people still complimented me on my hair - a sign that Aimee cuts styles to last. This weekend I rocked my new haircut and blowout, and got nothing but compliments on my hair the entire weekend. Also, her head massages are pretty damn epic. Salon: This is a really cute space, very well designed! I've been here once since it's opened, and it is a lovely, unpretentious atmosphere. They offer beverages during your cut/color/any other service. Feels homey - or, at least, what I'd want my home to look like! Product: They don't push product here, which I appreciate. But, they carry the Kevin Murphy line, which is natural (and high-end). I typically use natural, but drugstore, haircare. I finally caved and bought shampoo, conditioner, and a heat protectant. Holy crap. I washed and conditioned my hair with Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me last night, and my hair this morning feels clean and silky, and looks super shiny. You get what you pay for! This is a high end salon, but it's well worth investing in your hair, if nothing else. After all, people see your hair every day! read more

Aimee is absolutely the best! She is, hands down, the best stylist I have ever had and would follow her wherever she decided to go! Or, in my case, wherever I go...we are planning a move to wine country and I will still drive back into the City to see her. I remember my first visit with her, she took so much time getting to know my hair and what exactly I wanted. My hair isn't exactly the easiest to deal with, but she brings out the best in it...and will in your too :)! The salon is ADORABLE and there is plenty of street parking available. I literally parked right in front this morning. The product line rocks, there was a noticeable difference between the texture of my hair (so much softer) and volume (I have fine hair that needs a little TLC). Tatum and Aimee are both incredible. I have been going to Crown Salon for the last couple of years and my hair has never felt so consistently healthy, in all its natural glory. I'm a bit delayed in writing this as I've just come back from the east coast. I had an appointment with Tatum a few weeks ago for the first time after reading glowing reviews. My last salon experience was off kilter to say the least. Tatum is very sweet and approachable in person and her salon is beautiful and peaceful. She had a clear grasp on what I wanted and also gave her own tips based on her expertise, including ones outside the scope of the haircut, which I appreciate for sure. I ended up doing a trim but I can honestly say that my hair has looked better than it has in a long time. As for color, I got a sombre look with color dye instead of bleach, which has given some very subtle yet pretty highlights with great facial framing. I am very happy with my appointment and trust Tatum completely now with my hair. Next time I would go bolder :) read more

My only hesitation in writing this review is that I don't want to share her with more people. Because Tatum is the best. I started seeing her 5 years ago when I lived in the neighborhood. I have since moved to Burlingame, which is quite a trek for a haircut or color. But I have tried several local other places and no one comes close to Tatum. She is the best stylist I have ever had. My hair is so thick that Tatum say "oh my gosh" when describing it. Very few people have ever known what to do with it. But Tatum has been able to manage my hair from super short to long. Plus I have to say, if you're going to spend a few hours in a chair talking to someone, it really helps if they are genuinely nice, awesome, kind people that care about you as a person. Going to Tatum is totally worth the drive. I get compliments on my hair every time. And for a city location, the parking is totally reasonable. The art of hair styling, to me, takes the talent of a Da Vinci or Michaelangelo. To make that first cut, and to envision the finished product with each move thereafter; that is the true craft. Tatum has the ability to paint the Sistine Chapel, but has chosen to bless all of us with her passion for hair styling. I knew I had found my one stylist on a recent day at work. A woman stopped me and said, "Who cuts your hair?!" I replied, "Tatum at Crown Salon, she's the best!" She then turned to her boyfriend, and exclaimed, "Your haircut is terrible, you are going to look her up!" I felt badly for the boyfriend, but she was right. He needed help. Hopefully he heeds our advice and reaches out. Now that I have found the best stylist in SF, I am occasionally crippled with fear that someone in NY or Europe will discover her and take her away from us. I've been going to Aimee now for a few years, and I am always extremely happy with the results. When I first moved to SF, I used to salon hop all the time as I hadn't yet found a stylist I trusted with my fine hair. She knows the definition of a trim, so when we talk about taking an inch off, it never becomes four or five inches unexpectedly - believe me, this has happened with other stylists! She is also amazing (and speedy) with color and gets my highlights really close to the root. Aimee is very easy going, and the salon is super cute! I have very fine, blonde hair, and she highlights and cuts it beautifully every time. She listens carefully to what I ask for, and she is great about asking questions and clarifying exactly what I want. Not only does she give a great cut/color, but she is great about teaching me how to style my hair. She never pushes any product, but she is always thrilled when I ask her for something, because she knows I'm finally stepping up from my usual Pantene. I highly recommend Tatum and Crown Salon. If you have wavy or curly hair, Aimee is the only stylist for you! The cut she gave me is magical. My waves would dry so flat before - regardless of what product or styling I attempted. Aimee cut my hair and told me it would "look best if I sleep on it wet" (not usually something you hear from your hair dresser, but means that there is 0 maintenance required). She was right! Now my hair dries in uniform waves without doing anything. Would highly highly recommend! Best cut I've ever had. read more

I would follow Aimee anywhere in the Bay Area, but luckily she only moved over to NoPa! I was so lucky someone recommended me to her 4 years ago, and now I get to recommend her to everyone.
