Came here after visiting a winery in the area. This town doesn't have too many places to sit down and eat so I thought we would give it a try! It was middle of day on the weekend and this place was quite busy!! Bar was full of locals. Casual kinda restaurant. I remember hearing that this is the "best pizza in the world", which is a pretty crazy statement in general, but I came in with an open mind. I got a pie to split with partner. Half "the special" half "no sprout about it", and i would say both were pretty average. Pizza was good for someone hungry after a day of hiking or drinking at a winery on an empty stomach. Came here for the Buffalo Bills Game tonight and the back bar is know to be a bills bar as soon as I walked in I could tell. Arrived and walked to the back bar and as soon as I sat down a guy grabbed up all the remotes, I assumed the was a manager or owner, come to find out he was a customer like me. He also brought is own Marshall boom box blue tooth speaker. That he started playing prior to the game. It was so loud you couldn't talk to the person next to you. Once the game started he controlled the TVs and his speaker when half time came on you couldn't even hear the commentary and every commercial it was a load sound blasting your ear drums. We got there right when they opened and the place filled up quickly after we were seated. The place has charm. Service was good. Overpriced and lackluster pizza. I'm sad that Crozet Pizza did not hold up to my fond memories of it from when I lived in the area. The two of us each ordered one 12" pie- a Pacifica and a Feisty Italian. The positive is that the crust is still wonderfully crisp on the bottom yet still has that fluffy texture on the inside. The downside was that the red sauce was completely tasteless, and the cheese wasn't much better. The toppings on the Pacifica did not add flavor to the pizza. I was bummed that our waitress entered a Special instead of a Feisty Italian into the computer, so when the pizzas were brought out, the incorrect pizza had to be taken back and was 15 minutes before the correct one came back. I shared my pizza with my friend in the meantime, but he essentially watched me eat mine and then vice versa. When I got the bill I realized that the prices on their website are outdated- I paid $23 for the Pacifica (website says $20 as of 10/22/22) and $24 for the "Special". Pizza is maybe a step above a place like Fabios or another local delivery chain. Maybe a step below Mellow Mushrooms. I noticed there was a general lack of attention to running food to tables. A lot of food sat in windows rather long time. Sometimes more than 5 minutes on a busy Friday night. While staff did other, seemingly lower priority tasks. If you run a restaurant - get food to those tables! Also, it just took a while for our waiter to get to us, to get our check, and check on us. When the bill came there was an added 2 or 3% fee for "recycling" (they use disposable plates/cups in the dining room). Great pizza! This place could be a 5-star establishment based on the pizza alone. But the attitude of the staff is poor at best and the mixed drinks suck. When I walked in, the kitchen staff glared at me as if they didn't want to see another customer. The servers were extremely rude and openly scolded guests. They were unable to split our tab unless it was 50/50, and God forbid if you ask any of the wait staff for anything. There was always some kind of sarcastic come back and the environment was very rushed. I ordered a margarita and ask for extra tequila because my friend's margarita tasted like there was no tequila in it. I got the same sweet sugar water, despite paying for the extra shot of tequila. Visited the area for the day on 2/16 with my husband. This was our starting point because of our affinity for a REALLY good pizza. I've read multiple accolades for Crozet Pizza in food and wine magazine and my interest was piqued. Unassuming in a mini "strip mall" made of old plank wood, you'd just as soon drive by as stop. But the menu of specialty pizzas and locally sourced libations should make you not only stop, but pull up the emergency brake! The interior is all wood: boarded walls, floors and furniture all have a rich chestnut finish. The place looked immaculate; the restrooms were well stocked and clean. The furniture looked well maintained: no damages to the wood were visible and nothing squeaked. The seats are not padded so I don't know how long I could linger. There is also no wine list despite being in one of the best vinicultural areas in Virginia. But those were my only "complaints" if you could even call it that. You are seated and immediately given menus, thick cardboard plates and silverware. Drinks are served in plastic disposable cups. I presume this cuts down on staffing a dishwasher and broken dishes; I just hope things are recycled as much as possible! Their "house wine" is whiskey (they even state that on their menu-see pic) and they have a beautiful selection. They also offer several local beers that many folks seemed to be enjoying. We were hitting a couple wineries so we did not partake in alcohol this time. My husband is a HUGE fan of tea and he loved their fresh brew of unsweetened tea: strong but not over brewed. Lauren was our server today and she was warm, attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Drinks stayed full and we wanted for nothing. She is a keeper!! We wanted the soft pretzel sticks and beer cheese to start but were told they were being taken off the menu along with the jalapeño popper. Bummer. We found this quite strange despite the "Crozet Pourhouse" extension next door. We ordered the special pizza of the day "Great Balls of Fire": homemade hand tossed crust with house tomato sauce layered with shredded mozzarella and sliced buffalo mozzarella, topped with thinly sliced meatballs, julienned red peppers and a generous topping of basil chiffonade. I don't care for peppers so we asked for them to only be on half the pie. The kitchen complied perfectly! First bite was crazy hot, melty, meaty and fantastic. The pizza was heavy with toppings but had the perfect thin crust (think NJ/NY style) with crisp edges and just the right amount of char (they "warn" you on the menu that char could occur because of their cooking method: bring it on! I could only handle two slices; my husband ate three and the rest were boxed and taken home. The most delicious souvenir! It was a long drive for us but the scenery and pizza were SO worth it! We even told Lauren that we're are NJ natives but have been living in VA for over twenty years. We are devout pizza connoisseurs and Thai was the BEST pizza we've EVER had in the Commonwealth! Lauren seemed genuinely pleased and even bragged a bit about the accolade: National Geographic named Crozet Pizza best in the nation and Food Network has visited (I think I saw a pizza on the menu named for the network!) Summary: Crozet Pizza is a MUST STOP AND EAT when you're near C'ville. Wineries and breweries abound! We just told some friends of ours visiting from Virginia Beach last night just how fantastic this place is; we are now planning a camping trip centered on the pies! Please go, enjoy and tip well. Tasty pizza. I ordered takeout from Crozet Pizza on a Saturday night. They were busy, so it took about 10 minutes longer than the order confirmation promised for me to receive my food. I ordered the No Sprout About It pizza and 8 buffalo wings. The wings were not particularly spicy, but they were fairly moist and paired well with ranch as expected. The pizza was a delicious balance of flavors even though the "hot" honey was not spicy by any stretch of the imagination. What the Charlottesville is lacking in Mexican, BBQ and Chinese food, it makes up for in pizza. This place ranks right below Dr. Hos, Christian's, Fabio's and Vocelli's. This is the one area that Charlottesville is strong and has not disappointed at all. Great thin crust pizza, with a flavorful crust and cooked perfectly. The only thing I did not love was the sauce. Excellent pizza and service! We stopped in after going through the Blue Ridge Gunnel nearby and had this place on our must go list! It certainly didn't disappoint! My husband and I decided to sit on the patio out back to eat and it was a beautiful day! We started with the jalapeño poppers that were served with house made ranch for dipping. The poppers came out SUPER hot and for those wondering, they are deseeded before cooking so they aren't spicy at all. They were very good. We came here to get a dine in pizza as we recently moved to a house very close to this restaurant. We sat down and were trying to figure out the pizza menu (on-line only but it said not to order so it was a bit confusing). The table was very noisy and we asked to move and were told we could not. We were deciding what to do and the server came up and said we had to order or leave ( the restaurant wasn't very busy and we had only been there a few minutes). She never did explain the menu so I assume they only want locals here. We should have left but my son wanted to eat here as his friend thought it was great as he grew up close by. We ordered a pizza to go and had to wait standing up for 20 minutes as they didn't want anyone sitting down. I told a person who appeared to be a boss that we were thrown out of the dining area because we didn't want the loud table. She told us the tables were only for eat in customers. They acted like we didn't exist. We all felt the staff was very rude which we had never seen in the area. I got the distinct feeling they didn't want us in their pizza store and I very much regret going in with my family. We will not go back and strongly recommend you go elsewhere.
