This place has the potential to be a fantastic hole-in-the-wall pizza/sandwich joint, but they're just missing the mark. For me, it was mostly the service. When you're made to fill like you're burdening the staff before you even order, it's not a great start. I asked another local business was Chirios was and he responded, "depends on who's making your food" lol. I've worked in similar looking pizzerias, so the condition of the "kitchen" didn't concern me much. It actually kinda feels like you're in the back of house, rather than in a dining room. The local free library was interesting. I ordered a cold Italian. I wasn't expecting much when I first saw the bread, but the sandwich turned out to be decently tasty. My biggest complaint is the amount of oil added to the sub. The menu doesn't mention vinegar and oil, which made me worry the sandwich might be dry. I usually opt for vinegar but skip the oil. The Italian included both, but way to much oil. You can see in the pic, the amount of oil pooled in the to-go box. And that's after what soaked into the bread! I think I would have enjoyed the sub way more if I had asked for no oil. All that being said, I would def go back when I'm in the area. read more

We met the owner on a quiet Saturday evening, off season. He made the best fresh salads. The place i don't think has been updated in its 36+ years of operations, so keep that in mind. We came here after a day of skiing at wintergreen hungry with zero research, and I'm so glad we came! The owner Bill is a super nice guy, and he had our pizza ready in 15 minutes! We browsed the free library after his encouragement and took home a few great books! We asked him about the library and he told a really heartwarming backstory. The pizza was fresh and delicious, crust on the thinner side and perfectly crispy! The sauce is a little sweeter and the meat was delicious, especially the sausage! Called ahead to order a small pizza to go as we wanted to compare this place to the pizza place across the street (see my Giuseppe's review) and boy were we disappointed. The crust has 0 flavor and absolutely no rise. I'm a fan of a thin crust pizza but this was different. It was so bad that we ended up heading back into town because we still needed dinner and didn't want to eat this. Food has consistently gone down hill. Today was the last day for me. Ordered an 8" meatball sub and got 5 1" meatballs with no sauce whatsoever, almost no cheese. Took the meatballs out of the roll and this is what I'm left with. After eating one meatball I realized they are just frozen Italian meatballs you could get from the grocery store. We're staying at Wintergreen Resort and did some groceries in the closest supermarket we could...just so happened this spot was next door! Perfect timing because we were really craving pizza for dinner. I was not expecting much, and I didn't even check Yelp beforehand. It was just 4 of us and a toddler and we ordered a 16 inch meat lovers pizza, a smaller pizza with olives, mushrooms and spinach and small cheese sticks for the baby. We all truly enjoyed our meal!!! It was delicious! My kind of pizza because I love thin crust. They were very pleasant and even informed us that they deliver to Wintergreen! Can't wait to try the Stromboli and de luxe pizza! Ignore the bad reviews. We came in and we're greeted right away by a friendly staff. We wanted to eat in and while there doesn't seem to be much for seating, we were all able (5 of us) to fit around a table. My 3 boys all stood to watch the guy make our pizza and he gave them each a small bit of dough and told them that if they flattened it out, he would bake it for them. On a recent stay at Wintergreen, we ordered pizza here more as a convenience than anything else. A couple of the reviews were very negative, so I wasn't expecting the best pizza, but I pretty much can eat any pizza. So with all that in mind, I pick up our pizza and a greek salad. And was pleasantly surprised that the pizza was pretty darn good, as was the salad. My wife is a big thin crust person, and this pizza was just that. Had a nice crunch to it, and the sauce had a good taste. We went simple with pepperoni & sausage, but I won't hesitate to load it up next time. Don't pay any mind to the negative reviews! This place is great, and the service is top-notch. Not to mention pretty much the only delivery option on the mountain. We are up in wintergeeen for a family getaway, and pizza was exactly what we needed for our first night in. The woman over the phone as well as the delivery driver were very friendly and accommodating. We got a veggie deluxe pizza with no cheese (my wife doesn't eat dairy, though the cheese version sounded amazing too) and also got the cheese sticks. The veggie was delicious even without cheese, and the cheese sticks were tasty as well. They also arrived exactly when they said they would. I've been coming here about once a year for five years. If you set your expectations properly, Chirio's is a great little place. The decor is a bit eccentric--a mishmash of old magazines, mismatched table clothes, rickety chairs, and endless chotskies--but it's clean and the folks are friendly. The pizza isn't really NY style, but it's quite good. The sandwiches aren't as good as the pizza (I had the Hot Italian), in part because of bland roles. It does take way too long to get food. We love this place. It has been open since 1989. It is in a strip mall and serves fantastic custom pizzas. The prices are very reasonable. The salads are tasty as well. Seating is ample. There are board games and a lending library as well. There is another pizza place across the street. We stumbled upon this one last year and will keep returning. They also sell dessert. Stopped here when we were in Wintergreen for a couple days and thought to ourselves that it's pretty hard to screw up pizza, right? Wrong. I should have seen and heeded all the warning signs, the empty food bins on the counter, the empty ice cream containers in the freezer displays, the general unkempt appearance of the restaurant as a whole, but it's pretty hard to screw up pizza, right? That's what I kept asking myself. We ordered a 13" pizza with pepperoni and bacon thinking, "How can you go wrong with pepperoni and bacon?" You can. Trust me. The pizza was horrific and it wasn't the toppings, it was the crust. It was unseasoned, thin, and in no way NY style pizza. The crust was the killer and while it was not overly crisp, the flavor and texture of the crust ruined the whole pizza. I will say this though, the price was more than reasonable (for bad pizza) and the lady there was friendly enough, but hindsight being what it is, I really should have listened to my instincts and left right after walking in. read more

I really enjoyed this small pizza place. They have pizza, subs, sandwiches, ice cream, and other treats. Their pizza comes in two sizes 13 or 16 and they have it set up so you pay a base price for each size then it's extra for each ingredient you add. Along with the hot food they also have a scoop ice cream area. One of the other neat things about the place is they have a sharing library in the back. While we were sitting eating our pizza we saw several people come in and swap books out. Overall if you're looking for a fun place off the beaten trail to eat I'd recommend this pizzeria. read more

First time in the area and couldn't decide if we wanted to go to Chirios or Giuseppe's across the street for pizza. Next time I would definitely go across the street. After ordering at the counter they directed us to the dining area in the rare. That has a lot to be desired, beat up chairs and tables. Also I should have known when they served us our salad on a thin paper plate where the dressing leaked through. Not only that you have to eat with a plastic knife and fork. At least across the road to get a nice dining area with plates knives forks and glasses that you can actually eat and drink with. Now onto the pizza. The pizza at best was mediocre. It was tasteless.
